Oooooh, Aqualung.
3rd Annual SO CAL RU MAY 19, 07
I got the blue frog at Buick Service in Southern California last year...
It has voice of frog...
We keep threatening her with Jethro Tull. I have not seriously looked for the music though. I may have to now. She would probably love to play it Lol. I will put your order in. I found a copy of the song for Jo.
Don, if you want esoteric flute music, listen to Paul Horn, "Inside the Great Pyramid". What an experience that would have been! He also played n the Taj Majal.
Ah, the spikes. I used mine the other day when it was toasty. Sad to say, they get used for water bottled more that anything else. ( They do not let me drink gin any more. Let's say that it makes me......... well.........opinionated.)
Can she play stairway to heaven for us? Come on she can pull it off, it may torture her but what are kids for? Jethro tull/Led zep
Jo, it was only for you to say (hear) it that was the one.
Mike, you CANNOT be old enough for "sitting on a park bench"!
~'spin!~
WANNA BET ???
On your baby-sitter's knee maybe.
~'s!~
Editing to say, Mike has convinced me -- and to that I say: Must be somethin' to that clean livin', after all!
(Why do I have this sinking feeling he and I already had this conversation??? Memory is the first thing to go...)

Hellnzn11, the child grew up in a house with 60's folk (who play guitar and keyboards), the "Child Volumes" http://www.contemplator.com/child/index.html , Bach, Beethoven, Beetles, Bob Dylan, even Glen Miller and big band-courtesy of her grandfather. She is not easily scared. Besides, Stairway to Heaven is not a particularly musically interesting piece-it is just near and dear to the hearts of many of us. Ian Anderson listened to here! LOL!
Torture is Mom having to live through a new piccolo piece until the notes are right. Notes in the stratosphere need to be the RIGHT notes.
Not a great pic of the mad tooter (somebody spotted the lens) but the only one I can get to without waking someone. This is at Copley Symphony Hall.
She is SOOOO beautiful...and a daughter to be proud of!! We're all proud of her. Jo
Ok Don. Got the Ian Anderson book. she salivated over it all the way home and has now started playing. LOL! The child does love new music. We have been home about 2 minutes. I am disturbed that the music I love is called "classic." What does that make me! An oldsmobile? Geez!
Hi to all of you that I have not met yet... I am not from CA!!!! but I am addicted to roses and thanks to Zuzu, Steph, Dovey, Kell and many others who took me under their wings I am planting a rose garden this year!!! neddless to say I love these ladies and would love to meet them.... so I am coming to your RU in May....actually I feel very special since Dr Don also invited me.... oh well he is inviting everyone!!!
ok... I just have to make sure my friend that moved to San Diego last year can at least get me from the airport... if she can I am booking my trip ... I am thinking of flying on Thurs May 17 have a day to walk around and maybe see some gardens and saturday have some fun with all you guys and come back on Sunday... for good food and good company... nothing is too far!
my plan is to fly Boston -San Diego - but I have never been in San Diego so I need some help moving around there... now I need some suggestions about places to go on Friday, and also I need to either follow someone from San Diego to Temecula saturday! any suggestions????
Esoteric?
You dare call Ian Anderson's flute esoteric?.....lol.
I've been sitting on a park bench since it was released and I'm still wondering what Locomotive Breath is.....I've had some pretty bad breath in my day, but to smell like a locomotive gives all new meaning to "halitosis".....lol.
Fiona can help me to cut the soles off my shoes, climb into a tree and learn to play the flute......She's fabulous!!!!!
Kassia!!!!! please do come!!!
She says that she will NOT wear the tights and codpiece, though!!
Pay attention, I called Paul Horn esoteric. Ian Anderson is, well, (frog groping for an adjective.) Ah Fiona is back at it working on the syncopations that he is so fond of-makes the heart sing and brings back some rather fine memories. Hard to believe that "Aqualung" came out 36 years ago.
Don, do not lead the child into temptation, she finds if quite well on her own. I wish i could talk her brother into coming. He is a horse of a different color. The two of them are a hoot.
Kassia, we will indeed lead you to Temecula. It is not at all difficult from SD. Where will you be in San Diego?
Kassia - I'm sure someone will jump in with suggestions for something to do Friday. We do all our favorite cactus dealers in and around Vista when we're over there so aren't much help. Altho we loved Old Town and Balboa Park which are not far from the ariport. Motel Circle is also in that area. But since you are interested in roses, here's something for Saturday afternoon or Sunday if you decide to stay longer:

I think Kassia's going to take the 'came the farthest' this year, no? Kassia, do wish you coud squeeze in a few more days. If you've never been to San Diego, there's a lot to see and do.
Sherry
As long as no one is denigrating Ian Anderson's fabulosity.......I have no qualms. Indeed I would like to hear 'Cross eyed Mary', however, I'm content to provide, along with Pam's permission a Mount for Fiona ........sans hermano.
I could never lead any human into temptation as my contract doesn't allow for contracts above the level of lizard......lol.
hugs to the whole froggie clan.
don
Hi Kassia,
Yes, I do know who you are from the Rose forum. You just got your nurseing degree and have lots of little turtles in your bedroom...right? lol I lurk there sometimes to get some information, but I'm not that much into growing roses.
We would love for you to join us out here and I promise we don't bite!! Well, maybe drdon will squeeze you too hard with his great big hugs. :-)
There are several San Diego DG'ers that will be attending, so there shouldn't be a problem with you getting there. Let's hope someone will read this and help you with some of your questions. Sure hope you can make it.
Now for that beautiful girl above...who hoo!! Janice she is a gorgeous young lady now. She has always been a pretty little filly, but with that outfit on...she is a real lady. Can't wait to see her again.
I guess I'm not not much into music, as I don't have any idea what you all are talking about above. lol
Regarding this little RU we are having....I promise to get some emails out this week. I have been buried in gardening work for the past few weeks. Some of you know that I am showing my gardens on our local garden tour on May 6th and I have been franticly trying to replace some of my dead plants from our BIG freeze and adding lots of garden love to my little patch of heaven. I just hope it all comes together by May....I will sure need some relaxing time at the RU to recooperate, that's for sure.
Donna
Donna
thanks for the warm welcome .... I am planning to be close enough to Balboa Park (the Zoo is really something I want to see) and old downtown. I found 1 cheap hotel (harbourview Inn and suites) that seems to be close enough.... so I can walk around and may not even need to rent a car if I can get a ride to dr don's with some of you???? I think the best way to see a new city is on foot!
I am planning this trip so when I get a job as a nurse I can tell them I need that time off up front...
my sister keep telling me we should move to San Diego... we have some brazilians that have moved there and they tell us "is the best place to live" so she keeps telling me.... I don't know, but I am old enough to know that life moves in strange ways... if I like it, I am going back....
Donna, you are right.... it's me.... the crazy turtle lover... they are so cute!!!!
Don...where does one get "qualms" in Calif? I didn't think they would grow in that heat where you are.
Someone has made a major math error...Aqualung couldn't possibly be 36 years old...I'm only 38 and I know we didn't listen to it at pre-school...or on "Romper Room"...
Ian Anderson...he was the oldest boy on Father Knows Best....the one they never showed...he was only "referred to"...(yeah... well...........hmmmmm.....) there were rumors about him and June Cleaver.
Or was it Donna Reed ?
Kassia, if you're tired of snow you're going to love San Diego and not want to go back. If you love Fall, you'd miss Ma. But San Diego County is hard to beat in so many ways. Maybe you should check up on jobs out here also.....just in case...and pack a larger bag. Our real problem is traffic.....but the beaches and weather make up for it.
Sherry
JD, those are qualm trees....you know...the coconut qualms?
wc...you're right...I forgot about those!
So now it's 38, is it?
~'s!~
Yeah Kassia. My first too girl. Frogsrus, You are rolling me with such talk of hippie/ love child and her ecclectic taste in music. She is so pretty, I don`t know why but I envisioned her about 12 or 13 years old, probably because she is willing to hang out with us old farts. Sour notes ha? Can we quote you to her?
It would appear that some of us do not have a real hot Saturday night goin' on...I guess that's 'cause gardeners are saving up all the energy to be outside digging tomorrow, right?
lol I took the day off to see my friend in the hospital and my poor body needed a break. Hope my seeds didn`t dry out?
Dawn, You've been working so hard outside that I figured you'd just now come in for the day.
All week it was like that but today I had to see my friend with the head injury. I really burnt my neck yesterday so i could not have went much in the sun today anyway.
Off to bed with a book...everyone have a good day tomorrow!
ditto to have a good day, I will be watching Nascar and went to church already tonight.
Mike you made me spit my coffee before 7 am on a Sunday morning. You are a bad boy.
Hellnzn11, Fiona is 14. She will be approaching her b'day at roundup time. I think she was11 when SoCal met her. Not a baby girl anymore.
Kassia, we will find out who is going from San Diego and work something out. DD usually has me out of here at the crack of dawn so that she can commune with the horses. How do you feel about 6 am? Lol. I think there are several of us going from this neck of the woods. We will get you there.
Don, she may know the whole book by May, even if the horse ride does not depend upon it. Off to work, Have a great day all
I'm a huge fan of the fan qualm......you know.......Washingtonia filifera.....lol.
And I always thought that Ian Anderson was the itinerant son that Uncle Charlie kept locked in the hall closet on My Three Sons.....I'm not exactly sure, but I think it was his beard that made Chip nervous and self conscious about being the oldest with the best jawline. I've always wished that someone would remake My Mother the Car hybridized with Lancelot Link where the chimp drives the car, the car complains about his driving and Bill Bixby (reincarnated as Eddie Izzard) has to deal with the terribly dysfunctional dynamic between simian and standard shift.
Greet from Sacramento, CA!
I stop by at my friend and we going to Fort Braggs, CA today for drive 3 hrs. We stay for 2 days and will take pics of Fort Braggs and other places (gardens and redwoods I gonna do huge on Redwood trees! I don't care of redwood thing on me! lol...) I will post pic some day when I get Wi-Fi (High-speed Internet) on.
Along on highway 99 I remember that place before which is Chicken Place with taller tower (look like Oil well) still stand and still have like ghost town. It start from 1947 to 2007. It very nice place but it falling apart some of it. Also it have small trains, too!
Well, got to go and get busy for trip to Fort Braggs, CA.
Anna
Good road trip, Anna....such fun. Wish I were going.
Sherry
Kassia...you have Dmail. Jo
me too anna
Kassia,
There is a beautiful rose garden at Balboa Park, and you can't miss the organ pavilion, if you're lucky they will have a concert.
Old Town is fun and one of the most haunted houses is said to be there.
Another great place to visit is the Hotel Del Coronado, but before you do you must rent the Marilyn Monroe move "Some Like It Hot" filmed there in 1959.
Kassia,
The places that dovey mentioned are all fabulous places to see and enjoy. If you do make it down to the Hotel Del, find your way a few more miles south are the Border Fields and the wetlands of the Tijuana River. This is one of the few remaining Coastal Sage Scrub habitats still remaining relatively untouched (well....other than water quality...lol), the brackish water is home to thousands of birds and plants and is a wonderful place to birdwatch or just have a picnic. And it is close to Jo's granddaughter's place.
There are also some great sights close by in the local mountains where the native azaleas and many other flowers will be blooming at that time.
best to you and we're all very excited to meet you in person,
don
my dear friend kassia. I will take you with me. If you need picking up at the airport and your friend cant do it I may be able to but I usually work on thursdays. Sometimes I have friday off so if I do I can take you to some rose gardens and nurserys. I only live about 30 minutes away.....
We can talk about minis forever.
steph
I got here at Fort Braggs, CA and it very, very nice town! But it darn too cold and I m at Beachcomb Motel right to see view of ocean... Wi-Fi Internet is getting weaker on and off...
Here's the Chicken Place in Central Calif. near Sacramento (my brother called "Sac-ra-tomato") lol...
We going to Fort Braggs Garden tomorrow...
Anna
