Proud Plant Parents, share your plant photos here...

I've really enjoyed watching that Sago. Only seen that happen once or twice this past year. I was lucky to start getting the photos when it first began to come up.

Dawn, your home is beautiful! I have white siding on my house and when it grows up, I want it to have a porch just like yours!

I'm ready for Spring!

Can't wait to get an herb garden going in a pondform, instead of lined up on my patio like "herb soldiers".

I started a butterfly garden last year. Will plant all kinds of seeds for the butterflies and hummers.

Hurry Spring!

Yes, I'll cover the sides of it, when it's parked in it's home. The BF garden was planted in November. It's mostly sticks and twigs, but I'm seeing some new growth.

I have the perfect spot for an herb garden. I have a kidney shaped pond form (not in use since H. Rita) This spot is courtesy of Rita as well. Hubby has cut and sliced and whacked for many months, and is now fed up with trying to remove this stump. Insurance paid us to have it removed, hubby chose to do the work himself. I asked him if I could just park a pond there and grow my herbs.

This photo shows what the intended spot looked like in May, 2005

That same tree after Rita.

And NOW, this is pretty much what the area looks like. There's a hole big enough for the pond to go into.

He did manage to salvage a table out of that fallen tree. No, he's not dead. But I would imagine he felt that way after moving that slab of tree BY HIMSELF!

Wow! What a stunning series of photos with an amazing story behind them.

Looks like the perfect place for an herb garden.

We never could get anything to grow in the ground around that tree anyway because the soil was horrible. Using the pond form, I'll be able to use all "new" soil and if I can get it cleared out well enough, it should be pretty much weed free. (Yeah, I'm dreaming, but I like GOOD dreams!)

This will give you an idea of the size of the pond. This pond buckled in half when the tree in the foreground heaved and fell on the dining room. Funny thing is that THAT tree was totally obliterated within 2 weeks of falling. I smoothed over the remaining dirt and the next thing I knew REALLY BIG elephant ears had come up where the pond had been.

By the way, ALL of the plants in that first photo before Rita were salvaged and they flourished this year! EVERY LAST ONE!

Look at the favors Rita did for you ~ bless her heart... What are you doing with the slab besides letting your DH lounge around like that? : )

It holds my NBC and some other plants. There is lantana on both sides of it. The lantana was so big and bushy that it was almost as tall as the NBC by the time I cut it back.

UniQue -- "herb soldiers" -- I love it! I have a large area at parade rest on the back porch myself.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I brought most of the soldiers inside the house and they are sitting on shelving right inside the back door. I was looking at them this morning and they are a sad, pitiful lot. I just cannot seem to remember to water plants once they come into the house. I'm a Baaaaaaad Plant Mama!

The good news is.... I have lots of seeds to plant to my hearts content once the pond is in place.

Y'all will think I'm sheltered or something, but I've just this year found the Food Network. In reality, it took me getting sick to get control of the "clicker" for any length of time. I'm not a big TV watcher anyway, but I digress from what I was going to say.... I've learned this year many ways to use herbs. Whereas they were just ground stuff in little jars before, I now know what to use for what. I cut many springs, etc. from my herbs this past year.

I've been without a stove/oven for about a year and a half. I've used every other known kitchen appliance to cook with, including electric skillets, chicken poop 2 burner buffet style things, microwave, and toaster. Mom bought me a Convection oven.... the day AFTER Christmas. My 18 year old daughter cooked our turkey (at her house) for our Christmas dinner. She did such a great job that I've passed that job on to her for future family meals. :-)

Last weekend, I got a new stove. New to me, anyway. This new stove has 2 ovens and 5 burners. I'm cooking with gas now! Can y'all tell how excited I am about my new stove??? (insert waybigo grin here)

Yeah, Yeah, I know that this was supposed to be about plants.... but I DID start out with talking about herbs. One thing led to another...

Do you have ANY idea what I'd give for that stove!?!?!?!?!?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Unique, waybigo congrats on all the work you and hubby have done following the storm. Treed lots are lovely, but not fun to deal with when storms hit.

Stove is fantastic.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL Probably a LOT more than I did. Some neighbors that we've known for 15 years moved up to Kountze. They didn't have the space for this stove. It's only 2 years old and she doesn't cook much anyway so it's had very little use. She said they paid $2800 and they got a good deal. Hubby has done minor trim work on both houses for them and for $1500 cash, said we could come and get it. We are going to be doing a major remodel/update on my kitchen in the VERY near future (now that hunting season is over). The "rinky dink" stove I'd picked out was almost that much. I love that it's gas stove and electric ovens. And it's self cleaning! Yeah I love it! It's amazing how much that new stove makes me WANT to cook!

Over the past year I've been collecting some really nice stainless steel/copper pots and skillets at thrift stores, and not really been able to use them. This week I've cooked red beans and rice, gumbo, and a waybigo pot roast. I've made pizza. brownies, muffins and crescent rolls. Sounds like what most normal folks cook. Not having the right appliances to cook with has really made me get creative with cooking. The good thing is that I shouldn't have to cook all weekend long, what with all of the leftovers.

(neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer) That was me steering this conversation back to being a proud plant parent.

This is my lantana with one of it's frequent visitors. This little guy sits here all the time, hoping to find his lunch.

Gardenias in the front yard have buds on them. Can't wait until they look like this again. The smell as you walk up to my front door is heavenly!

Congrats on the new range. What a delight that must be to you and your DH! Not to worry about "threading" off track. I personally love it.
I am not camera literate and don't have an excellent camera for close shots but this guy was a welcome and frequent visitor to the Moses in a Boat ~ Rhoeo

Janet, Great deal on the stove! I'd love to have that much room to cook!

Thanks folks! Dawn those are gorgeous! I love that brilliant orange and yellow.

I always love the brilliant colors in the northern climates. It seems the flowers have less time to produce so they do it with a flair!
Here it is the muted colors of an angelwing begonia and "Mona" lavender...
