I'll take a banana cream or coconut cream if you haven't made them up yet.

lemon meringue here please
Maybe it will be a pie week then, 4 flavors left.
Pizza pie!
Yankee, I gotta know: what does concatenate mean and why do you like it?
I like how it sounds and that it has a "cat" in the middle. It is an Excel function that puts cell contents together in a string. It has been very useful for me in the past and not everyone knows about it - so it makes me look smart.
Just finished Absolute Friends by John Le Carre. (I listen to books while I drive as I am on the road 13 hours a week now.) The book is absolutely stunning - if you like thoughtful spy novels - I highly recommend it.
Yank, I remembered the word 'concatenate' from my Main Frame computer operator days but couldn't remember the exact usage. Now I remember, putting things into strings or lines. Good word.
If your library has "Suspect" by Michael Robotham, grab it. Outstanding.
Andy P
Yankee, I haven't read spy novels much, but I love books on tape. It has totally changed my perspective on driving and getting stuck in traffic. Maybe I'll try your & Andy's suggestions after I finish re-"reading" Catch 22.
I'm lucky to have 1200 tapes at my library to choose from and I think I've listen to all the good ones. The state system of library's shares all tapes. All you have to is request the one you want if they don't have it in shelve's.
It might be time Andy.
Andy, I think it's phenomenal that you've had that plant for 22 years (and that you know that you've had it for 22 years...if it was me I'd have lost track about 15 years ago).
I keep thinking I should pick up at least 1 amaryllis on sale. I think I'm the only person on the forum who doesn't have one. Those are wonderful, carrie
Gram, I bought the plant when I lived in an apartment. I got my first house in 1979. I repoted it before I built this house in 1986. I remember that because I had a devil of a time getting it out of the pot, I banged it on the porch railing bruising the bulb. It's going to wait a little longer for a new pot, like Spring.
Does anyone else have trouble with their internet connection when it gets really cold? I gave up last night after the temps got below 8F because response was so slow I'd time out. We are up to 12F now and response is better.
Andy P
Andy, so you've actually had it more than 22 yrs, it's just been in that pot 22 yrs. and you built that house new in '86? cool!
Kewl, Andy.
Ginger, you're just trying to make us all jealous, seems to me.
xxx, Carrie
he's trying to take over the world from down under one hippeastra at a time LOL there will be little armies of them.(see, I'm not jealous)
Andy, you really have loved plants your whole life, haven't you? you missed your calling.
Contigious - like sharing borders is a good definition. How I use it in class is a range (set of cells in Excel) that all share a border or borders.
That's where I heard the word! "The 48 contiguous states."
Gram, I lived next to old Mr T as a kid. He grew everything and answered my questions. Compost bins and cold frames, fruit trees and watermelon in New Hampshire. All right outside my kitchen door on the next 3 lots.
I took over my family veggie garden at age 9.
Andy P
andy, I guess that's the difference. I don't know if I didn't ask questions, or they just didn't get answered. I do remember picking a cucumber in my great-grandma's veggie garden and getting yelled at by her...the only time in my life she ever yelled at me. she told me later she was afraid the neighbor kids would think it was ok if they saw me doing it. I never saw the logic there. I loved her gardens but never learned a thing about growing stuff. My mom had a green thumb, too, but never passed it along. I had a little corner alloted to me by the landlady when I was in grammar school, but I had to buy the seeds and read the packets and plant them myself. no help, all trial and error just like now.
Growing up next to Mr. T? "I pity the fool!"
Not THAT Mr T.
Oh.
Nevermind!

Not jealous,
Just trying to cheer you all up during your winter .

Happy 1 Year celebrations to you all ,
And I`ll be outa here. Kell lol
Hey everyone...I can't believe I forgot to watch this thread!!
Welcome Blooms...how have you been surviving all your snow??
I'm lovin' everyone's amaryllis. I've never had one as I am too lazy to deal with trying to get it to rebloom next year. I do however like my African Violets and I've started my wintersowing. http://lakehousecreations.com/wintersown_2007.htm
Anita, what snow ?? the dusting we got, and even the 2inch storm all melted away. All we have is the cold... 20 at night 40 in the daytime. though the last two days we got to 45.
I'm a tv movie blob these days. It's too easy to excuse laziness in the winter. I have sweats, a sweater and a heating pad on my feet. TV and internet at my command. What more could one want. I'm so disconnected I thought today was Saturday. A good friend had a laugh at me and my ditzy ness this morning.
Maybe I'll get out of the house here shortly. The sun is shining, I COULD go for a walk. LOL
~Blooms
My amaryllis bloomed yesterday. The other bulb gave out on me and didn't grow at all. I have one less to store now.
Man, it's cold outside! I bundled up this early morn to get the paper, feed the feral cats and put out corn for the squirrels. The wind really blew yesterday, but I secretly liked it because I got to stay in and listen to it.
Everyone has gorgeous pictures.
Kudos to Andy for having the oldest plant so far. I gave up on houseplants years ago because I'm a drought and drown waterer.
Pictures I should have taken:
Wild turkeys walking across the Pike Run river, another beautiful hoarfrost that wasn't in Nichols, but in the country, and the ground fog at two levels. The hoarfrost must have freeze dried because it sparkled like diamonds. I've never seen trees twinkle like that before. It was beautiful.
Ginger, fresh flower pics are always welcome. Us northerners will grace you soon with Tulip pics.
Your proficient Amaryllis bulbs are like my Asiatic Lily 'Lollipop'. I started with one bulb 5 or so years ago and got this Last Summer.
My first Amaryllis is going to be the Apple Blossom.
Andy P
Billy, we had an inch or two of fresh snow last night and bright sun this morning. The temp went up to almost 40f. Sarah and I went out for a walk. You should walk, get the blood moving, fresh air will perk you up. Be sure to bring the camera.

Billy, nice amaryllis! By the way, I think it counts as a houseplant.
Andy! It was 2* this morning!!! Besides, I walked in Walmart Saturday. :)) Seriously, I can't wait to start walking again!
Dave, DOH!
Andy, I thought when I took a close look that was was going to be your Appleblosom and I was going to say something along the lines of "where I come from, that's called AppleblossomS" but lo and behold, it's not a picture of your Amaryllis at all! You sneaky devil, you!
Billy, beautiful, do you know the name? Really beautiful, or nice pic, at least. All my blurry Rilona pics are now in PF! Maybe next time I'll take the pictures. Those were all taken by my DH with his correctable to 20/400 eyes.
xxxx, Carrie
Billy, we don't do walks unless it's at least the mid 20s.
Carrie, yesterdays post got confusing because of my edit.
Andy P
Andy what a beautiful bud. Did you hybridize it (my babies)? Can't wait to see what it is.
Boojum, it's a baby from an 'Appleblossom' bulb which is very motherly. I get new babies every year, some from juveniles. I see 6 new ones already.
I have an old red one that has given me only 2 or 3 babies in 20 years. The red is slower to wake up. Leaves and 2 flower stalks are only showing their nose now. It also has bloomed in August as well as February, once.
All the bulbs got potted up at the same time, Jan 2.
