South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Not sure, but I was born in 1960...don't know if she had it when I was born or not. It wasn't the same one used on my 6 brothers, I know that...cause they "accidently" dropped that one into the fire! LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Does anyone remember Lava soap?? Tasted that a few times when I had a fresh mouth. To think thats child abuse now........

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

What a shame!!! I had the wooden spoon used on me. Not one swat, but 4 to 5. I think that was abuse. At least overkill.

I never had to taste soap.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

geez - I had a bat once

I had soap from my 3rd grade teacher too!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Bigcityal, I had 3 bats. The kids I was babysitting saw something weird on our walnut tree. I looked and it was a pretty light brown Mama with a baby hanging on to her and a slightly larger baby beside her. I got my sun tea jar and a stick and captured them for a day.

My 3rd grade teacher took me in the hall for a lecture on hitting. I was the one that got hitten.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

No soap here (but I do remember Lava-good for dirty fingernails). Dad spanked me once for running in the street when I was little, not hard from what I hear, but it raised such welts he never touched me again. Story in the family is 'Jan has tender skin'.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Well, I must have a pretty tough hide. Too bad for me!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

The Jackie Gleason Show. That was the highlight of Saturday night when I was little (or was it Friday?)

That soap tasted nasty, I'd rather get hit. Do you remember Octagon soap? I think we used it for poison ivy.
Someone gave me a piece of Blackjack gum the other day. I think it's clove flavored. They had Beaman's gum too.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Teaberry gum. and Skybars. the Vermont Country Store still has them.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

yes to both Dave & Gram...my favorites kind of gums. Also, I do remember Jackie G. and Red Skelton, Laurel and Hardy, The 3 stooges, Adams Family, and Walt Disney was on every Sunday night 7-9. I had a pogo stick, chinese jump rope, click-clacks, hula hoops, and a banana seat on my bike!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pixie, you were definitely cool! Or should I say "BOSS"

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The Lawrence Welk Show - it was my Grandma's favorite and we had to watch it every Sunday (I think it was Sunday) night.

Are there no Star Trek fans in this group? I never knew that Spock was green until a couple of years after it ended and I saw it on a color TV for the first time.

Kung Fu - I loved that show and Cain was sooooooo sexy - in a Buddhist Monk kind of way.

Wow, my mom had one in the shape of a hand too.....except her's was attached to her arm! I also got the wooden spoon. Must be European thing. I've had this conversation before with friends. My mother probably would have been up on abuse charges if it were happening now. It's just the way things were done then. My friends feel the same way as do my cousins with their parents. Times change. I'm not sure which is worse; too much discipline or not enough.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Anita, LOL on the hand. It's true, though. Nobody thought it was wrong.

Yank, I think Welk was everybody's grandma's favorite :0). Don't get me started on Star Trek. I've probably seen every episode 8 or 9 times. Love sci-fi in general.

Pixie, I had to be the last kid to get a hula hoop. my mom always waited until stuff was marked down. It was the ugliest color..kind of like pink mud. But it was a real big one. If she didn't get rid of it after I got married I'd probably still have it LOL. Mom tried real hard but money was tight. I remember when she brought home a 45 of the Peppermint Twist, but not by Chubby Checker. How could I tell her?

OK...who had 45's? and then later the little adapters to make the center hole smaller so you could play them on a stereo

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I still have a stack of 45's.....not sure why im keeping them. Holding on to my youth i guess!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I still have 45's somewhere too. I also have some 78's from my grandmother. I also have tons of cassettes that I'm going to try and sell on EBay. The same with my old VHS tapes. I just sold all my Cary Grant VHS tapes. I even sold my first Nintendo Game console.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I have several hundred 33 1/3s that I actually play - well - sometimes. I found a wonderful turntable at Goodwill and after I paid $135 for a new cartridge - it works perfectly and I can hear every single pop and hiss. I just picked up some of the converters that go inside a 45 so you can play it on a regular turntable at a Tag Sale - anybody need them? *chuckle, chuckle*

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Dave47, Jackie Gleason was on Saturday from 55 to 57. Friday in 58, and back to Saturday 68 to 70. He also had a talk show in 61. I love this book!

Grampapa, I love that catalog! Fruit Stripe gum!!

Pixie, Sunday with Disney and popcorn!!! I forgot!!!

AYankeeCat, Lawrence Welk started out on Saturday in 63, but was first telecast in 55. No day given, but it was July 2nd. I liked Star trek, but not to the Trekkie extent. Riverside isn't too far from me, but we don't go to the festival. Loved Kung Fu. Sexy, ya, but I like it best when he was little and learning. Just told DH the other day I wish it was back on.

Anita, ROTFL!! Wish I had said that! Attached to her arm!

Grampapa, 45's here too. I had little yellow Popeye records. They must have gotten broke because I haven't seen them. I remember Olive Oyl singing about putting on your coat and boots, and sneezing

Brand new yellow and black banana seat and sissy bar!!! We got to see them right before church. I'm the dark haired one and had the longer sissy bar.

I play albums all the time, tapes too. I have burned a lot of it to CD though.

Let's see ....old shows, Addams Family, Mr. Ed, Carol Burnett Show, SIgmund the Seamonster, Hong Kong Phuey, Speed Buggy, Monty Python

Mrs. Billy - did you bike off to Woodstock after that photo then ;)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

ROTFL!! No, I had the dress, but not the age :(( I wasn't too cool or aware at 12, or 13 or 14.

Monty Python!!!!! Anyone watch Little Britain? http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/littlebritain/ Funniest show since Monty.

Bewitched! A total classic and her b'day was the same as mine so we're practically related.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Al - Do you burn CDs from tapes? I have one very special tape and no way to play it... hint...hint.

Anyone watch Dragnet? We were just talking about that at work on Friday.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'd forgotten about Dragnet Yankee! I used to watch that one and "Get Smart", and one I wasn't allowed to watch but snuck over to Linda's house to watch it anyway. It ended right when it was getting dark out and I had to walk home alone. Naturally my imagination would be in over drive and i'd run like a crazed person all the way. Then I'd have BAD dreams and Mom would say.."You been watching Dark Shadows again huh?" LOL

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

"Dragnet Yankee"? - must have ben an east coast thing.

Yank - oh I've got tape decks, I've got a bunch of those babies I couldn't afford new back then now.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Pixie, Since you brought up eerie: The Twilight Zone, What a great show! And the Outer Limits.

Kid shows: Anyone else remember Wonderama? Chuck McCann? I think they were both NY shows.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

How about Paladin? Jack Palance was hot - in a kinda character actor way. Did we mention Gunsmoke. Miss Kitty was such a prude considering that she ran a brothel!

Wagon Train and Rawhide, The Lone Ranger (and Tonto).

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Cheyenne. Sugarfoot, Broco Lane, Maverick. There were a ton of western's including one hosted by a future president. (name it?) My DW can still sing most of the theme songs

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ah yes, Miss Kitty....what were are parents doing letting us watch a show w/a madame?
Dave, I don't remember those kids shows but I did and still do watch Twilight Zone. Also watch Tales from the Cript, Ponderosa and Big Valley.
Gunsmoke, Rawhide, and my favorite Friday night show was Wild, Wild West!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

One of my 'neighbors' will be on 'Deal or No Deal' tomorrow night. No kidding. (I don't know him.)
Mr Giuseppe Iannello, 61, an Italian immigrant, father of 8 will not reveal his winnings until after the show airs. "You watch Monday night, then you see." he said. "I no born in this country, I gotta go the easy ones..... English not so good."
"I wasn't nervous, they treated me like a movie star."
-
Also: 2 Pembroke boys will be on Jay Leno February 13th for their efforts getting the Garter snake recognized as the official state reptile.
-
I saw this in todays paper.
Andy P

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave, Ronald Regan hosted the 20 Mule Team Borax show.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I loved Wild, Wild West! James Bond meets cowboy days!

Maverick was also very cool. It starred James Garner.

Bronco Lane, Sugarfoot and either Johny Yuma or Cheyenne shared 1 time slot and were each on once every 3 weeks.

Oh, if you didn't grow up w/in 100 miles or so of NY you wouldn't have gotten the kid shows. Did you get the infamous Soupy Sales? We did.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Good work Andy! Was it also called Death Valley Days?

Go Giuseppe!

Anita wouldn't approve of those boys from Pembroke!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Death Valey Days, It was on the tip of my fingers, lol.
Andy P

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I had a crush on Bronco Lane; my sister liked Cheyenne. And, of course, we loved Maverick. We had tons of 45's, with the adaptor on the record player. My DH still has a bunch of 45s. So funny. I haven't thought of this stuff in ages.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

NYC....Ah the Soupy shuffle and Pookie. What about Claude Kirschner and Cartoon Circus (WOR), and Sandy Becker? The Late Show and the Late, Late Show with the Synchopated Clock (theme). The Magic Cottage. Flash Gordon, Tobor, Captain Video.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Maverick...my fav! but I hated it when they brought in Bart. Bret forever!

Andy, all I could think of was 20 Mule Team Borax, too. I can see the commercial in my head.

Lassie...my big brother couldn't watch it. he'd run in his room when it came on, because some one was always in trouble and he couldn't stand it.

Loretta, I'm with your sis, I liked Cheyenne.

Dave, I KNOW a lot of the theme songs, but I can't sing LOL

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'd forgotten about Lassie, I loved that show! I'd watch it even though I knew there would be trouble, but I also knew Lassie would save the day! However, the sensitive part of me would always cry if anything happened to Lassie, not Timmy.......Lassie.

I also remember watching those stupid Japanese monster flicks where the words and their mouths don't match up. It drove me crazy, still does!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

These are alot of great memories. Lol.
My favorite commercials were "I can't believe I ate the whole thing. You ate it, Ralph,"
and "Ancient Chinese Secret" for Calgon.
We watched a show out of Hamilton, Canada called "Tiny Talent Time," every Sunday. It featured kids performing. I think my mother had high hopes for us...like it would also rub off. Lol.
One of my favorites was Gilligans Island. Also liked Jackie Gleason and the Honeymooners (we've got the same name...I thought I might be related, lol.)

Jackie

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

yes! American Bandstand and Soul Train!
E.S. had the Beetles!! "I wanna hold your hand." Oh my......good memories!!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)
