Daily Musings - Page 7

Thank you Carrie, I don't know the name. It was my Mom's and I've been keeping it going for two years now. Her other bulb finally gave up and didn't put out any leaves. It was pink. I had to giggle over your husbands sense of humor!

Andy, I can't wait to see it open. Was it an offset of a larger bulb, or a seed? I don't know much about hybridizing, but it sounds interesting. I just bought a new propagating book, but haven't had time to do much more than use it for researching seeds.

The wind just began to howl here a few minutes ago. We had a dusting of snow with more of a stiff breeze earlier.

These are my neighbor's pine trees across the alley. Our afternoon snow.

Billy, offset is a good word for it. Not a seed.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

After seeing everyone's beautiful flowers, I'll have to decide what color to buy next. I've just had hand me downs.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Have you seen this new feature?

Wow! That is another great innovation. Seems there have been quite a few lately. It really makes navigating DG easier.

YUMMY

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I'm logged off for a night and now we have post numbers. My, it takes me all day to read about all the changes.

Didn't someone ask if the cold weather affected computers earlier? Mine froze up on me twice yesterday. I had to do a hard shut down, go thru scan disc and log back on, twice, with dial up. Scream!!! Then I couldn't enlarge anyone's pictures. I gave up and watched 3 hours of CSI.

Ginger, I could eat watermelon, hot wings and jalapeno poppers every day for the rest of my life!!! It's a beauty!!!

Here's a peach custard pie I made this morn.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

WOW billyporter Neato .
Do you grow your own peaches ?
It`s to hot here to grow them .
Is it home made custard ?
One more Question ,
Do you put the Glass bowl in the oven ?

Kell ~a boy~

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

My Dad grows the peaches. These were storebought canned ones that have been on the shelf long enough. I was making a butternut squash pie so I just made the peach too. The custard is just some of the peach syrup, egg and evaporated milk. I've never used this recipe so I hope it's good. Actually, how bad could it be?

The butternut squash pie.

I forgot to say thank you and Yes, I put the glass pie plate in the oven. It's Pyrex.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Pyrex, OK, get it now.

I took this Pic. yesterday at local shops,
To give yall a comparison on cost.
Hope Pic. is big enough for you to see the prices.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Is it pie week again? I put my order in last week already.

Nice melon Kell.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Hey Bigcityal, What flavor did you order?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Banana cream and coconut cream. Did you make one? hmmmmmm

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Just worked out I can`t edit Pics into a Post.

Thanks Al.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Here`s that Pic.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Bigcityal, sorry, I love both of those but I think apple is next. I haven't even tasted the peach yet. I hope it's cold by now. I better go see.

Ginger, our yellow or white nectarines are $ 1.68 a #. The rest aren't advertised, but the apricots and plums seem to be comparable in price. Now, your mangos don't look ripe yet.

Anyone get a kick out of the new ''plum'' juice? It's even pretty. I'd drink it!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'd say it's definitely pie week at billyporter's...mmm-mmmm, those look good.

Kell, that's a 'ell of a melon! picnic time :0)

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

And you are ALL invited .
Did some one mention Mangoes ?
I prepared this one for desert last night.
This grew here at home .
The tree still has about 58 left .

Thumbnail by ginger749
Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Martha Stewart couldn't cut a mango better. How are you going to fix the other 58?

P.S. The peach pie was delicious!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

PIES....... I'm hungry...
Kell, refresh my memory. How much is a Kilogram compared to a Pound?
My Amaryllis opened today.

Great pic Andy,
How do you get such great contrast
from the flower to Background ???
Are you using a SLR. ?

Oh yeah, 62 Pounds is 25 Kilos App.
Not sure of the formula.
My Uni son will know .

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Pie's look scrumptious and that is a beauty Andy!!
Ginger, thats one huge watermelon! Did you by any chance weigh it?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Kell, OK, a KG is roughly 2½ pounds.
I brought the plant up to the west bedroom near sunset. Only the flower is in the sun.
Here it is in the south window, it's home.

Good catch on the kilograms Andy. That changes my price comparisons. Gorgeous bloom!

I think our melons are 28 cents a pound.

I only have one amaryllis, but the second bloom came out!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Nice pic-look at those big blooms! I'll order one of those squash pies, please.
Merengue is opening here. (Not lemon merengue!)
Andy who is that hippeastrum anyway?
You can always use google for conversions. Just type in your question.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Boojum, laughing, I haven't tasted it yet. I love the name of your's. Can't wait to see the bloom. I was envious of your summer scene till the rest of the picture with the snow loaded in. LOL!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Billy, Very pretty and huge blooms! Jimi Hendrix too!? Alright!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Hey Billy, how about sharing that recipe for the peach custard pie. It looked real yummy!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Very nice Mrs. Billy. I don't have anything inside that flowers

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Good morning folks! Want a bagel?

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Sure, Dave. Sesame, with butter AND cream cheese...plain cream cheese. Or else veggie would be good too.

Billyporter, do you do anything with that big glass jug? My Dad used to to have one and would drop his change into it everyday. I remember he actually filled it up. I have no idea how much was in there, but I do know it was a very impressive amount.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Hendrix!

Bagels, are they soft? Put ham and cheese on mine and heat it up please.

The big glass jug has 2 pennies and a nickle in it. LOL It just sits there looking pretty. I'll bet your Dad was rich after he filled it. WOW!!!

Peach Custard Pie

1 unbaked 8'' pie shell
1 large can of sliced peaches, drain, reserve 1/2 cup syrup
1/2 t. cinnamon
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. peach syrup
1 c. evaporated milk
1 egg slightly beaten

Arrange drained peaches in pie shell. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Bake 375* for 20 minutes. Combine the syrup, milk and egg. Beat till blended. Pour over peaches and bake another 30 minutes.

It was quick, easy and good enough for company. Since it's custard it will look a little shaky till it cools. I also diced the peaches since I had whole ones. I use the Pillsbury rolled up crusts in the box.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Excellent!!! Thanks billy!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Your welcome!

One of my favorite shows are being rerun in the morning. Green Acres. A classic, like the Adams Family, that will never be out of date.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Billy, people notice everything when they see a pic, lol. I missed the Hendrix T-shirt.
Your flowers are BIG, nice color, too.
Boo, please post again when those open.
Andy P

I think the Amalyllis is an 'Apple Blossom' with an orange tint from the setting sun shine on it.
