What's the view from your favorite perch? Show and tell...

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the kind words! I've been a goodwillaholic, er, I mean Treasure Hunter since I can remember. I'm pretty sure that both my sister and I got that trait from our Dad. He loved the Clearance Aisles at Target and planned his Tuesday's around shopping there. We have several thrift stores that we hit up regularly. They know us by name! HAHAHA It's all part of the "baliwick"!

It's really nice to share my yard with folks that appreciate it. We don't have a lot of folks over to the house. Those that do come comment about the yard. I like sitting out back with a nice cold glass of iced tea to just relax and watch the wildlife. Being a member here has caused me to slow down and ***really*** "smell the roses".

That little deer has "spooked" both of my dogs several times. Grace, my big lab hunting dog has never seen a deer that wasn't "slain". She was standing next to hubby last night and suddenly, she looked down and left and saw it. Hubby said the look in her eyes was hilarious. I told hubby that he needs to take it to the deer blind that he built and put some scent on it! From a distance, it really does look real.

Connie and I are brainstorming about the copper stuff. I went to her house today and saw a couple of really cool outside lights that she's created. I'll have to go back at night to get some good photos of them. She's figured out how to light up things and has gone BEZERK! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Nothing is safe anymore!

Nada, as soon as we get everything "assembled" and know that we're ready to go, I'll let you know about the mosquito you inquired about. We went shopping today for "copper specific" tools that "something happened to" a few years ago. I told Connie today that with all of the copper stuff she already has made, she's already got herself a "showroom". As she makes things, she can save the templates and save much time on the next one.

thanks Janet.

Nada,

I called Connie to see what she was doing today. She said she was working on a skeeter. I asked if I could come play too. I got to her house and we began to create the skeeter. There was quite a bit of trial and error. But thanks to Andy's (Sarahskeeper) photo of his mosquito, among others, I think we came up with a pretty dern good one. He turned out to be about 16 inches long. I've already got a box ready for him to be shipped in.

What do ya think???

Wow!!!! That's fantastic. Wow!!!!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Tammy! We were really proud of the way he turned out. Both of us had silly grins on our faces by the time the day was over. :-)

I'm working on making some listings for my eBay store, showing different critters that would be available. Of course, since our inspiration came from DG, any member of DG will get a nice discount. The bug files of DG will surely come in handy for "authenticity" reference for the bugs and other critters. Everything will all be unique and custom made.

Connie has been very blessed with being able to create what she sees in whatever medium she chooses. I've always been proud of her work. You should have seen some of the Halloween Costumes over the years! Porky and Petuna Pig! And Ursula from the Little Mermaid...just to name a few. HAHAHAHA

Hey UQT ~ how big is this guy? When are you two starting to market these?

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Pod,

He's about 16" in length. I'm working on making the listing. I'll let you know when it's ready. That is my project for tomorrow. I'll post a link here to the listing. They will all be custom built so if you have any requests, let us know.

Incredible!!! (And I think he's the one that bit my elbow causing a huge allergic swelling!!)

Midway, TX(Zone 8b)

That skeeter is so neat!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks folks! Well I got the listing created. I didn't say anything in the actual listing about a discount for you DGers. I'm willing to take a discount of $10.00 off any item that any DG members purchase. Here is the listing in my ebay store.

if this link doesn't work, you can go to my store and look for Copper Garden Art.

And, to the powers that be.... if this is inappropriate, in any way, to the TOS of Dave's Garden, please let me know and I'll be happy to remove this post.

Thanks for your encouragement and your moral support. You guys are the best!

Awww Murmur,

Unless you are allergic to Copper, you won't have that problem with this one. He is rather wicked looking! We like 'im that way!

Janet

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Well after talking to Connie, she said she went to buy more copper this morning and the price was higher than she remembered it being the other day. I've had to increase the price slightly to compensate, but the discount is still good for DGers.

Just FYI, the custom created treasures can be any size, from small to large and will be priced accordingly.

I actually LOVE copper so no way would I be allergic to such a wonderful creature!!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I almost have skeeters that large in my front yard after a big rain....live by the lake in Austin!!!! lol

I would love to order a big on that would be on a copper pole.....how do I find out the price, etc.???

Thanks!

Connie,

Thanks for your interest. Send me a Dmail and I'll talk to Connie about what you want. We'll let you know ASAP. This goes for anyone that's interested.

I feel like I've hi-jacked this thread and I feel bad about that. I will start a new thread so that this one can get back to the "views" from the perches. I was really enjoying seeing everyone's gardens.

I don't remember who posted the photo, but someone had a hill of different ornamental grasses. I was thinking it was you Connie. I know I saw that photo and I can't find it. If anyone else has seen it and knows where it is, please let me know. I want to show it to my sister Connie.

Not to worry about hijacking, I had been enjoying the directions it has meandered too. Was wondering, "copper love bugs"? Hmmmmmm....

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Pod. I appreciate it.

ooooooooooohhh Now copper love bugs would be fun to make! :-) They look so much better "alive" than as windshield art! :-)

We'd also thought "mating lizards". I have a whole bunch of photos of THAT! HAHAHAHA

Nature is an interesting subject to the artist. This has been a booming year for cicadas here. It seems every where I look I find the hulls they shed, sometimes the beautiful bugs and then the bug dead... This photo was the wierdest one I found.

Is that your greenhouse Pod? Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I'm so jealous! GREEN even! HAHAHAHA I'd love to have that much space to be able to put plants away.

I haven't seen many of them. Just heard them. I did find one in a quite unusual place though. I brought in my mail and one was attached to an envelope. I laid the stack of mail on the floor and took some photos. Then I took him (with the mail) outside and took 2 more photos because you couldn't really see any color on him inside the house. BTW, he WAS alive. And after a gentle nudge, he buzzed away. He stuck around though for several minutes while I was snapping away like a mad woman! HAHAHA

Well Golly Gee. It ALWAYS helps to actually pick out the photo BEFORE you hit the send button.

Aren't the cicadas a cool prehistoric creature? Fascinating...

It is a greenhouse of sorts, homemade and small. We built it from cattle panels, plastic and tie wraps. It looks big but... I have a screened back porch, in winter I put plexi panels on the screen and move plants in there and still have a pile on the front porch (less tender ones) that I cover with sheets on frosty nights. I will probably lose 'bigtime' if we get some serious cold... Today, I am picking up new plastic for the gh, it is shedding the old like snakeskin. I hope to get some shadecloth for next summer to save it. You know I left plants in it this summer. The temp reached 110 +. Stapelia plants bloomed like mad all summer long in there... Unreal!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm glad to know what those plants are called. I have a small one and Connie has a larger one. We've always called it the "toenail" plant because the "sticky-out" things remind us of dog toenails. HAHAHAHAHA I love that bloom. Too bad it only lasts such a short time. And it kind of sneaks up on ya. If you don't know it's coming, you could miss it entirely.

I have a small place for wintering plants that hubby crudely created. I'm always amazed at how many plants I can get in that little shelter. I have a big old bathtub in there with a gate laying over it for access. I use that tub for mixing up waybigo bags of potting soil. Sure beats working out of a bag.

It isn't real purty, but it'll do.

This is the view from inside my "simulated" gh. It would be a great place to perch, if I could hang by the ceiling like a bat. There's no other room when it's full...

First of all, thank you all for the compliments on the copper art. It's something I enjoy doing to enhance my garden (and UniQue's). It's a bit frightening having the whole world see my stuff. I'm feeling necked!
I just couldn't stand it any more, letting my UniQue sister have all the fun so here I am too. It took her years to talk me into getting on the internet. She kept saying I would love it. And she was right. She loves Dave's Garden too and enticed me to join. I am sure I will enjoy it, too.

I feel a kindred spirit here. Wow! These views are all wonderful !

I wish I had a huge yard like my sister and most of you but I try to squeeze as many plants into what space I do have as possible. Here's a view of my favorite perch sitting on my swing on the patio.

Welcome to DG Connie, you have a lovely view!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi Connie,

Glad to see you here!

Great picture! I noticed though that you neglected to mention that you painted the scene on the fenceboards.

I like the screen name that you chose to. It's perfect!

Connie and I have been working the past few days on making some smaller copper skeeters. Afterall, not everyone lives in Texas. So not everyone "needs" a waybigo Skeeter!

We now have one in small ($30), medium ($45) and large($60). I took some photos this afternoon to show you all the difference in size. I haven't made listings for the smaller ones yet.

Thanks KatyMac, Your's is lovely too. It "feels" nice with the colors you have displayed.
One good thing about mine being so small is that I can keep it manicured easily. But I long for more space. I do have a side yard that desperately needs attention but right now it's just the dogs play area (and bathroom ) so as long as she's with us I have to wait to do anything there. I tried once but she tore it up racing back and forth. Plus I think her seeing me digging holes for the plants made her think she needed to help. She'd never been a digger before. I'd look out the dining room windows at my new view and see my plants flying by !

Good evening Janet!
I'm here!!!

I took that a few minutes ago. I thought I had a daytime view but I couldn't find it.

This is going to be fun!

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

Did you check on that CD I brought you the other day?

I may have one. Let me look.

LOL Connie, you just have to be persistent. I lost my beloved white boxer Boomer six weeks ago and now have a 6 month boxer rescue puppy. In a few days I've got half a dozen smashed heucheras and a bergenia I coddled for a year and a half ripped right out of the ground. But, he'll learn with time and patience... hopefully while I still have a few plants left. :·)

I just spotted a photo of Riley (the dog Connie is referring to). She looks sooooooooo sweet here.

Beautiful dogs KatyMac! I've been very fortunate that neither of my dogs "does" plants. Sometimes Tink breaks off something as she's tearing across the yard for a ball that's been thrown (not TRULY her fault). And Grace isn't always as graceful as her name. But they've never actually dug up anything that I can remember.

First photo is Grace. She's our hunting Lab/Golden Mix.
