Come on, folks, fess up.
Who wouldn't eat Miracle Whip if you were starving to death? Who has no preference?
Who licks the mayo jar? LOL
Sign me, Mayo Only
Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise?
I wouldn't eat Miracle Whip! I'd go without! Hellmann's is the only way to go!
Miracle Whip!!!
I would never eat anything except Miracle Whip here. Now If I was still in Alabama...... I would only eat Bama brand Mayo. Geez, to get my hands on some of that... makes my moth water to think about it!!
Janis
You know, funny thing, I've always eaten nothing but Hellmans,
but the last jar was either bad or they have changed the recipe.
It was just not the same, so I bought Kraft.
Wow! I love it! Sorry, Hellman's, I'll check back with you later!
I'm trying to remember what brand we bought once and when we opened it, it was very heavily spotted with red. Hubby took the jar back to the grocery and showed them. Apparenly paprika is a regular ingredient and apparently the machine was a bit heavy handed on one batch. LOL
The ol Coots' favorite is the Miracle Whip, but it's a bit too expensive, for comfort. So, (we've) compromised and now use (and really like), the Great Value brand of MW (salad dressing).
Woofens .. Before we moved to Arkansas, the Winn Dixie stores were the only place I could find my beloved Bama. Since moving here, however .. there is no Bama Mayo to be found, nor any Winn-Dixie, for that matter. So, I've learned to 'settle' for the Blue Plate Mayo (when I can find it!) .. Most all of our family and friends in Louisiana, will drop us an email or give us a call - to see what we may be needing .. before they head this way. This, is when we give 'em our lil-bitty list! We, naturally, stock up on the Bama mayonaise. Along with a few other meager lil grocery/fridge/freezer items we require (hee): the Winn-Dixie brand steak sauce (closest to A1: but at a much better price!), 20 #'s of fresh boiled mudbugs (in season), 5 bags of crawdad tails, Savoie's and Manda's brand Pork sausage, some Andouille, and tasso. IF feasible, the folks usually try to get over to a particular market near the Comite River on Greenwell Springs Rd .. to fetch the fresh made Boudin sausage, for us ...
Ummmm-Ummmmm .. I done went & got 'hongry' ... LOL

Winn Dixie is where I got my Bama mayo also Magpye. No Winn Dixies here in Ohio either. I have only been back to AL once since 99, and going to Winn Dixie wasn't real high on my list of things to do. I want (and need) to go back, but the cost of gasoline is so high, and flying isn't feasible with 4 kids. If I thought I coiuld take all 5 of us Greyhound without having the urge to throw myself under the bus tires, I'd consider it LOL. My father was from AL, and I have family there, as are my girls biological paternal grandparents. They have only seen my DD7 twice, and its been 3 years since we were there.
Never tried the winn Dixie steak sauce. I'll be sure to pick some up when I go the next time. boy it makes me homesick. I really need to go back, my grandmother is really getting up there in years, as are my girls grandparents, and I have aunts and uncles I haven't seen since 98 when my dad passed away. I have never been back to my dad's grave since the funeral either :((
Boy the memories something as silly as Mayo can bring back huh?

Good thread Wuvie.
Growing up my mom was sooo brand specific it was nothing but Kraft Miracle Whip for us. Something must be wrong with my taste buds I suppose because I've tried it all now that I'm grown on my own. I can eat any brand and it doesn't matter if it's Miracle Whip or Mayo, light or regular, made with veg or canola.
But I am leary about trying to make my own fresh mayo though I have several recipes written down in case needed in a pinch.
I love Mayo! Hellmann's...definately the best.
We mostly buy the store brand....usually a lot less expensive. ;)
Hellmans rules...
Well Daddy and I were all for Miracle Whip and DB and Mother were all Mayonase.
She liked Hellmans because I was made with lemon juice, not vinegar.
In the South many folks rave over Duke's Mayo.
Now I buy the Mayo, best I can afford to make Hidden Valley Ranch.
I can now even tollerate mayo since if I'd only eat MW, I'd have a lot of dry sandwiches eating out.
Hubby #2 was from Chicago and they buttered their bread before adding Mayo.
I thought that was whacko.
Sidney
Ew butter AND mayo. I couldn't do it. One or the other and I'm happy.
Miracle Whip, but it isn't the same as when I was younger.
LOL...I just noticed my typo, I used two S's instead of N's.
Please pardon my goof. It should read "Mayonnaise"
I like mayonnaise, no Miracle Whip for me! My wife is just the opposite, won't eat mayo, only MW. Go figure!
Funny how tastes run, when I lived in NH the only hot dog I would eat was Schonland's. Can't get them here in KY, in fact, you can't buy a decent hot dog in this area. We're leaving for NH for a week next Thursday, I'll bring a cooler and bring back a 10 lb. box of Schonland's for the freezer!
WUVIE .. (lol) ..
Woe, ye shalll be beateth witheth a weteth noodleth, on the day aftereth all the resteth of us-eth geteth overeth oureth owneth horribleth GOOFETH's!!!
(reckon'at jes goes to show, that I certainly haint not'eth had a previous life, in THAT era!
Heck, WUV .. we'd've all understood if you'd have spelled it > 'maynaise' .. far easier!! .. LOL

.. Big_Red ..
I tried to link the site .. but the link doesn't work. But the site had the Schonland's brand posted as available to purchase on-line!!
Since 1883, Schonland's Franks and Sausages have graced the grills and tables of Northern New Englanders. A tradition of quality and attention to detail in providing the best tasting franks and sausage has been the hallmark of Schonland's and the reason for its sucess. Since 1987, Kayem Foods has been behind the Schonland's brand, working hard to ensure that New Englanders receive the same remarkably great taste that Schonland's has become known for. So enjoy our Kayem Natural Casing Franks with the Schonland's recipe, and please be sure to try our other great tasting Kayem products found in your grocer's meat or deli case.

LOL Magpye,
Indeed, especially around our area. You couldn't have typed
the pronunciation any better. Maynaise or musdurd or kechup
are the three condiments in this section of the world.
:-)
Hot dogs. Eww. Gag. Sputter. Choke. Not even on my deathbed.
Hot dogs. Eww. Gag. Sputter. Choke. Not even on my deathbed.
WUVIE,
Why, that's un-American! Hehehe.....Probably because you've never had a Schonland!
(LOL) .. WUVIE, for us .. it's 'musserd'.
I've gotta ask: what on earth made you think of such an inquiry to 'chunk' out here, for the rest of us DG'ers .. to ponder over -?-
((huggs))

Wuvie,
I've always heard, "You don't wanna know what's in a hotdog...you'd never eat them again." That was the only phrase I had to hear about it to put me off. Still....now grown...every once in a while one burned on a firepit makes it edible. HA.
I guess there MUST be something wrong with my taste buds because I don't see a difference in mayonnaise and Miracle Whip.
I don't care. Just don't ask me to eat head cheese. Ewwww.
Magpye,
I found the website but they have to be shipped FedEx over-night, which would make it very expensive! Guess I'll just pick them up when I can or when friends/family come down to visit. ☺
Thanks!
Red
Oh well, WUVIE, there goes the separation theory...or rather, enhances it.
Hellman's is Best Foods here, grew up on it, but now the mayo (NO WAY MW! Eww. Gag. Sputter. Choke. Not even on my deathbed) in my fridge is.....
drumroll......
Kraft!
(Long live Hebrew Nationals!)
LOL...Isn't it funny what some of us eat and some wouldn't feed our dogs?
Honestly, it's not that I know hot dogs are made from cow corneas and
pig cheeks, but the taste. UGH! Bologna, hot dogs, both have a salty nasty
taste that makes me want to hurl just smelling them. No spam, no potted meat,
no deviled ham, none of that nastiness for me, thanks.
Magpye, it all started last week when I was hesitant to make a sandwich
because my last jar of Hellman's just didn't seem right. I bought Kraft and
absolutely LOVED my sandwich. I've been eating sandwiches all week,
sometimes two a day, and thought it was the Mayo prompting my passion.
I just wondered if others were as passionate about their condiments. Ha ha!
A big Dagwood sandwich and two or three Roma tomatoes sliced
on the side, and I'm set!
(Tomatoes on the side of the sandwich to avoid the drippy messy business
you get when you put them ON your sandwich.)
Talking condiments...it seems waaaay more people prefer sweet relish to dill relish. I grew up with the dill relish on the hot dogs and sausages. I do not care for the taste of sweet relish at all.
Miracle whip and peanut butter was my childhood favorite. One time I was going to run away and made a couple sandwiches to take with me. I didn't go, but forgot where I put them. Mom found them and asked what they were. By then they were black. I said I didn't know. But I did.
Wellllll, that easily splains it, WUVIE ... (lol) ...
.. alamoaimee ..
'Used' to be .. there was only 1 kind of hot dog wiener: period! And it certainly was a mix of 'gosh only knows what, and then some', in those.
Now-a-days, it's the canned 'chilli' that makes me cringe!! Used to be Hormel chilli jes couldn't be beat. Luv a good beef frank-furter (no chicken, pork combo things!) on a hot dog bun with home made beef chilli, mayo, musserd, dill pickle relish, a bit of chopped raw onion, and an occasional splash of three cheese over the top!!
Oh my, I'm 'hongry', again ... (I've gotta stop biting on these type of threads!!) .. LOL ..
Now .. You've went and mentioned "drippy messy business". When was the last time you had one of those 'lick the t'mater & beef gravy off your arm, before it reaches your elbow' d'lishus kinds of Po'boys???
- Magpye
Soul-mates so far. How about braunschweiger on toast?
WOW, Billy/IO1 I have NEVER heard of combining those two?! My Dad likes PB with banana pieces on it or PB mixed with lots of honey. I don't care for those either.
Oh, alamo, yes!
Bananas on LTMB's! Or marshmallow whip, peanut butter and banana slices. MMM!
My mother's version of BLT's...Mom always said LTMB, and it stuck.
I still have to remember to call them BLT's or no one knows what the
heck I just asked for.
Lettuce Tomatoes Mayo Bacon.
And Bananas, too.
.. Big_Red ..
Glad you were able to find the website. Even with over-nite shipping: it mite prove most worthy one day .. for when you've got one of those 'jes won't letcha be' hankerings!! .. hee ..

Best Foods mayo (aka Hellmans). No Miracle Whip in this household! I just wish the low-fat & fat-free versions of mayo tasted better!
Is the preference for either mayo or Miracle Whip a regional difference, do you think?
Alamoaimee, Miracle Whip (to my taste buds, anyway) is both more vinegary and more sweet than mayo.
DH, who is English, grew up with "salad creme," which is too sharp for me (it's advertised as being "tangy"). It's even more of an insistent taste than Miracle Whip, and that's saying something. :-)
Wuvie,
LTMB, that's a mouthful. Wonder why she mixed up the intitals? I figured everyone put mayo or Miracle Whip on their BLT anyways? Restaurants do. I like toasted tomato sandwhichs, only addition is mayo or Miracle Whip, whichever. Comfort food!
