Thanks, Arlene. I plan to do so!

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Darius...just yell when you need plants and I will be more than happy to send some your way.

Deb

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Deb, I'm going to be calling in LOTS of favors/trades from the last 3 years! I will have about half shade, half sunny areas.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Darius forget calling in favors.
Unless you got 40 acres.............
I think your housewarming plant gifts will allow you to open a nursery! LOL

Ric

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Darius, what is your new home's zone?
Will you accept seeds?

Hugs,

Ursula

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

Darius, on my way up to northern Virginia last weekend, I got off the interstate and drove through Marion, VA. What a nice town that is. The area (like all of the Shenandoah Valley) is just so pretty.

I hope everything works out really well, and you guys can get settled soon. Let me know when you're ready for raspberry plants, and I'll meet you in Abingdon sometime.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Ursula, I don't know the zone yet. I'm thinking 5b but hoping for 6a. I called the County Extension service but the agent was out and the secretary didn't know, so I have to call back.

Lois, I would like to get raspberries in before Fall. Just have to decide where and make a bed for them. Meeting in Abingdon is fine. They have a great sounding Farmer's Market on Saturdays 7-12. http://www.abingdonfarmersmarket.com/vendors.htm

I probably wont get into planting much until September. I am hoping to get a rudimentary GH built with the old windows in the barn so I will have a place to start seeds next spring. I will start some this year for fall cool season things like lettuce and broccoli.

Ric, you may be right! I think I have more friends here than I thought.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

I think you need to hold a Music/Planting Fest in September.

Darius-stock! ;-)

Ric

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Hey, I could do that! I'd just need lots of hooks to hang folks from the trees to sleep, LOL. 'Course, the barn could be cleaned out by then... and the loft made safe.

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

Congratulations Darius,

I am so glad you found such a wonderful place. It couldn't happen to a nicer person!

Satori still treasures the wolf box you sent her. So you are thought of often in this house.

Congratulations again!
Melissa

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Glad Satori still treasures the box! And, thanks for the good wishes!

Ursula, I just talked to the county extension agent. We are pretty much zone 6, at least if I'm not in a micro-climate.

Mifflintown, PA(Zone 6a)

Good Luck Darius. Glad things are going well. Dixie

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Great! Now I want to know if you will accept a seed donation from somebody that cannot contribute with plants.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Absolutely!

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

OK, dmail me your new address and I will send you seeds that can be sown in Fall.

Hugs,

Ursula

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Ursula, I know the address but would like to hold off until we have actually closed on the property! June 14!

edited to add: New address will be in the Address Exchange by June 15.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

OK, will look it up there.

It's going to be quite cold during winter in your new place, isn't it?

Hugs,

Ursula

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

We're so excited for you guys! I wish you good roots and lots of wiggle room for them. :)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Ursula, we will have lots of cold weather, and some snow. Annual snowfall is 20" and I think I read the average rainfall is 40".

Corinth, NY(Zone 4b)

Darius,
I have been following your journey. It is wonderful and I am so glad things are coming together for you. Good luck with your new home. It sure sounds great.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Darius, when you get settled, I will come make a double visit to my friends in Marion, to your new place. Kill 2 birds with one stone. I am so happy for you, and hope that the discord between you and your sis can be laid to rest quickly and forever.

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

Darius, just a note to let you know how happy I am for you that you and your sister have found a home of your own, and it's the home you have dreaming of. I don't know of anyone who deserves it more. God Bless. Dotti

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Are u going to want more than one variety of raspberries? I have Autumn Bliss - they are late Aug and on bearing. The thing I like abt them is that they are fall bearing on one year canes so I can chop off all the canes and not have to 'half kill myself' cutting off old two year canes without damaging one year canes every year. I hated that job in my old patch. LMK

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Yep, Laura, more than one kind of raspberries works for me!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Okey dokey - LMK if u want them sent this summer/fall or wait till babies come up next year. My guess wld be the babies would fare better in cool weather for settling in, but I don't know if it really makes a difference or not. I think they're pretty tough.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Darius, am so pleased all is working out for you....... will try to bring something from turkey to mail to you while i am home next week. I will be in the states for when you publish your addy in the address exchange.....

Crossville, TN

Hey Darius! I finally found this forum...I LOVE the place...and the spring house brings back such fond memories of when we lived near Blacksburg, Va in about 1942....that spring house was such a blessing on a hot day.

I MUST get to stop by and see you during my travels...about October...when the leaves are in their fall colors. I hope you have a bench or something to sit on beside the creek. Jo

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oh yes, Jo... we plan a picnic aren down by the creek under one of the weeping willows! Bring a pillow and stay over...

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Congratulations Darius! I'd give anything for the root cellar alone. I'd also take the spring house and creek followed by everything else! Lucky you!

Crossville, TN

UMMMM....A Tea Party under the willows...how cool is that? Jo

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I'm starting to get excited (again)! Closing is in 6 days. I will leave here on Sunday, arrive there early enough on Tuesday to get a bank account and the water turned on. The Walk-Through is Wednesday at 11 am, Closing at 2 pm. Then I have to buy a blow up bed to sleep on for 8-10 days until my stuff in storage gets there.

After we close I shall start another thread with new photos as we make progress!

I am so happy for you! Countdown has begun. I can imagine the pins and needles you are on! I hope that everything goes smoothly on closing day! Thanks for keeping us so well updated.

Yes, it's a little dicey right now. Today is the last business day before I leave and we still don't have an accurate Good Faith Estimate of costs at closing that I need to take with me via a certified check.

I guess paying cash rather than having a mortgage company involved has them confused, LOL. Then, the Listing on this house in FL starts Monday and we aren't ready (cleaned and neatened) as I'm still doing touch-up painting. The money for the new place is the Home Equity loan on this house. I just hope my sister can sell it for as much as the appraisal but the market here has slowed to a Buyer's market. 6 houses on this street (horseshoe shaped) are for sale.

My sister leaves for 5 days in Texas next week to see her long-lost father so that's an added stress. 53 years since she saw him last and she was only 3-4 years old.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow, that's a long time for both of them!

I'm so excited for you guys, praying the closing and related red tape goes smoothly for you.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

darius, i cant remember how to get into the address exchange, can you please send me your new address so i can mail you something. i am back in the states and can mail somthing

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Pebble, you are here? which state are you in? no fair saying: 'confused' LOL

Darius - you are on the road or just arriving, it being two o'clock in the east ... so I hope you have a few hours to just walk and wonder in your little piece of Eden.

I am holding my breath until it all settles down and becomes "Real".

must be a story in that missing 53 years... ~~~waving as you go down the road, ~Blooms

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Pebble - Addresses are under Extras at the tabs on the top of your home page - maybe this will work
