Coffee and...Part 40...! :-D

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

M5...thanks for the info on the fake rock place. I've already checked it out and have learned that I can go to Madison to see them. (Yeah~!!)

Maria, you should think of the power outage as 'blessing'...it got you out of the house so you'll spend the day with family. And that's a GOOD thing. ;-)

Darius, I'm with you. I really don't like driving after dark...never have had good night vision.

For those of you who asked...LOL...the ankle is FINE! Thank you for asking. And as for those :-O *500* (I wish you hadn't told me...good thing my math ain't all that good. :-D) They're getting planted, little bit by little bit. That attachment that DH made for me is a life saver. It's nothing fancy...just two blades welded onto a 30" rod...but it breaks up the soil so I can lift it and go deeper if necessary.

I just told Eric that he couldn't cut the PIZZA until I took a pic of it for our coffee group snack later on this evening. He told me I'd have to HURRY cuz he's eating as soon as it comes out of the oven. hehehe

Time to go plant!

All I did was go to church (and a Social Action committee meeting after). You've all been busy posting.

Julie, glad you and the camera are OK. It could have been a real nasty fall and I bet you've got some sore muscles.

Darius, if you're still with us, have a good trip.

Maria, sorry about the power outage but glad your daughter is close enough for you to visit during it.

Re bulbs, here is the garden they are going into. I have to find time with decent weather to get the excess soil moved somewhere else.

Re attaching pictures, I think it pays to make them smaller in some sort of imaging program - you may be able to do this with the software which came with your camera. Most cameras are set up to take pictures at higher resolution then you want for Internet and if you don't make them samller they will take a long time to upload and for others to download - though I think DG may modify them to be a bit smaller if they are too large. (Not sure about that but I bet Darius knows).

Re cameras, we had a very nice Canon A80 for about 15 months. Long enough to have it quite well figured out and it took good pics. Then DH left it in a rental car in Germany. Of course, it was not found when the car was cleaned out. We've replaced it with a Fuji E510 which had nearly the same specs as the Canon A95 except for the flip out viewer and was $150 Cdn less expensive. I get excellent garden close-ups with it but have not been as happy with garden scapes as they don't seem to have much depth.

I plan to get caught up on some Food cupboard files this afternoon and have an orchestra rehearsal tonight. The second orchestra has Sunday evening rehearsals, but I've not been there since early September because I had a bunch of conflicts with Ottawa Symphony on Sunday evenings. Have to look at the music between now and then too.

I wonder how many posted while I was writing this. Guess I'll find out when I preview the picture.

Just two if I'm quick enough. lol

Ann, looks like good dirt! Hope you get it moved before it harms the tree.

I really miss going to the symphony, no matter what they were playing (although I have some favorites). Around here all the music is a banjo, dulcimer, and a guitar... and twangy country or fairly decent bluegrass.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Darius, it IS good dirt - 25% mushroom compost and 25% black earth along with the top soil. When I planted hostas a few days after it was spread in the back yard, it was FULL of worms. And we've dug the tree out so that it can breathe.

Wish I could transport you for a concert..

Ann

beee-yooo-teee-ful dirt!! Wish I had some. (putting on my ninja costume, sneaking over there with a bucket....)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Ann!! I need to get my stereo hooked up... at least I can listen.

I was already vacillating about leaving today but now I've pulled a muscle in my shoulder.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay age check here. You all exhaust me. I am 41 and after reading just this mornings posts I am ready for a nap. Trying to keep up with all the names seems impossible.

Julie, the pods are from a Texas Mountain Laurel tree. Actually when I was talking to another friend about how I should send them she told me that the seeds should be planted while they are still young and soft and the pod has the fuzzy stuff on it still. But of the three I have planted all the seeds were old and I have trees. HHMMM......now I have more questions. And all I was trying to do was make another poster happy.
Now while reading your story of the fall, which by the way I hope your ankle and rump are okay, I was silently praying that you didn't break the camera either.
Hint for you............ Always use the handle strap on the camera when taking pictures out a window while driving. I lean a little to far out to get a better shot and the wind grabbed the camera and threw it on to the side of the road. The camera didn't make it. Although the memory card with that final picture was unharmed. Picture below.

Okay, warning now. For all you with those bulbs that I can't have right now, just start now with your lists of what you have and exactly where they are. It will make it so much easier on you when you have to dig out a couple to send me when I get into the new place. It is far to much work for what you get when planting bulbs here. You have to dig them up, clean them, and winter them over in the freezer and even so after the second bloom they are in sad shape. I have tried everything including buying new bulbs each year. That was just to expensive so I have to wait.

Hey, who took all the maple syrup for the pancakes. Guess I will have to use blackberry. Such the compromise.

I am glad for those of you that are floating in rain water that you have a break. I sat outside on the patio with my fan for over an hour last night blowing the warm air to the east for you.

Have you even gotten the feeling that while giving the sermon at church the person is talking directly to you? This morning I would have sworn Father Stephen had to been watching through my windows at my life and decided on what the subject would be. Very errie.

Hey Darius, how are you feeling?? I read on another thread that you have COPD. If you ever have any questions I might be able to answer them. My parents both had COPD.

Well I think I just might have to take both the laptop and the new camera to the geek squad at Best Buy and have them show me how to get this thing to work. Frustrated.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

CARAT, Thanks. I'm doin' okay, just spending to much time on the pity-pot lately and hope I'm getting over it! I'm generally an optimistic woman, but this year has just had too many stressors. I get a daily COPD List with lots of help, peer support, news, etc.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Awesome Darius. There is an great site called COPD-Support on the web. Informative and they have a chat room and email group. Wonderful caring people. I don't think I would have made it without them. Well you can sit on the pity-pot for the rest of today, but tomorrow you need to get up and let someone else have it for a spell.

My doctor knows me so well he personally calls me on a Sunday to remind me of my appointment tomorrow. Not telling him that its just his appointments that I tend to forget though.

Off to Best Buy for me. Anyone need anything while I am out????

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey, Sarv, which types of dahlias do you like? Look at my trade list on the Dahlia Forum. Am glad that I made your day. That makes me feel good too.
Ok, back outside to maybe put up the new small greenhouse. Am excited.
Later, Carol (DR)

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

CARAT, that's the List I belong to... Thanks.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

carat, the older you get the better you get. You'll catch up eventually. lol [for the record, I'm 61]

meezers - if you can get here you can have some dirt if you beat my next door neighbour. I think they are gonna try lasagna gardening between our driveways. I've already got my half of the strip into garden. It was partially a self defense move as neighbours were in Toronto for 4 years - back to university while their kids were in university here with rooms rented out. Nobody from that house ever helped mow the strip. Once I made my half into garden they had no choice.

Now the parents are back and repairing the house and garden and want to turn their half into garden too. Makes sense cause the grass doesn't grow well anyway. They just did their driveway and are going to put stones along the edge. Once that's done, they'll pile on the newspaper and come for some dirt. Soon I hope cause I don't want to plant bulbs too late.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Daisy - you might want to get yourself a greenhouse from harbor freight- 6x8 an absoluely delightful!! I just go and stand in mine and think how lucky I am. It is small enough to just feel cozy. At first I thought I would want a bigger one, but I only use it for Mar and Apr, and it is plenty big (for me that is)

I'm mosey over to take a look at your dahlias- I was awed by yours and poochella's - wish I was neighbors to both of you!! LOL I like any tall ones actually. I just finished digging and rinsing my small ones and I was surprised at the lack of tubers this year. Wonder if all the hot weather took a tole on the tubers?

I snuck out to the barn to find DH and he wasn't there - on my way back to the house I saw him in the scoop of the tractor putting up the gutter guard stuff. What a guy - did 40 plus feet of it. All he has left is the 20 ft over the two story part of the house. It scares me to have him up that high - will have to tie a rope around his middle for safety.

I'm going to the store to get him stuff for my new dip receipe and a case of beer as a reward. He's been a good guy today - no need for the 2x4!

Good grief darius- how did you pull your shoulder?? I am absolutely blind driving at night and if it is night and rainy - oh lordy - look out!! Last time I drove at night/rain, I ended up driving in the turn lane and didn't even know it until the gal I was with pointed it out! LOL I about freaked her out!!

Gonna give that picture stuff a try when I have a few hours!! LOL

I've gone to look
for myself,
if I should return
before I get back,
keep me here!

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Sarv, I would love one of those greenhouses. But I only spent $70 on this one and it will have to do for now. When I get rich, lol, I will do better next time. Fine, since you like the tall ones, will send you those kind.

Memphis, TN(Zone 7b)

hi all - anyone heard from mornin_gayle? She's missing......

Gotcha, tgif......heheh

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Daisy - they only cost 299 and it is the best 300 I've spent in my life! Start saving....

DH is out fryin up some hamburgs - I've got a yummy dip in the oven and a 12 pack on ice- come on over and pull up a chair!! News will be on in a minute.

Starkville, MS

Oh, thank you Happy! I've been going in circles all day, and had no idea where I was. I felt sorta like the man in the donut ad - I've already made the donuts!! I think I will give up for today and fix supper, shower, and sit still for awhile.

Back later - ginni

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Okay, I hate Best Buy Geeks. They can't figure it out. Have me exchange they camera and software for a new one. Then the young little snapper lectures me on computer stuff that makes no sense, and to top it off I still can't get the photos off the camera and on the computer. AARRGGGGHHH

Hey where's the pizza. I worked up quite the hunger trying not to kill the geek. I think I will go pour me a glass of wine and just chill for a little bit. Hubby is making a ham and scalloped taters for din din. I would kill for fresh snap pea's too.

Anyone have any info on Texas Mountain Laurel pods?? I am beyond confussed now. I called a another friend who has one of these trees in Texas. She tells me that the seeds have to come out of the pods, scratched and soaked for a least a week in order for them to germinate.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Oh thank you, I needed a piece to go with the wine. Anyone want a glass?? Its a nice reisling.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Ohhh, haven't had a nice Reisling in a long time... Thanks!

Not much available here (actually NONE right here, dry county) but the next county has a limited selection not much better that Mad Dog 20-20 and Thunderbird.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

CARAT, I meant to add way up earlier, that they are working on a "ribbon" for COPD, like the cancer, etc. ribbons. The problem is that COPD is called "the invisible disease" and a transparent ribbon doesn't show up on your car, nor on your clothing as a pin.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

OH Darius, I will have to be sure to bring an extra bottle when I move just to share with you.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Darius I understand completely. Can I ask what your recent stats are??

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Carat, you have mail...

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Well I can't stay long. Have to take her out often to potty so she doesn't think the rug is OK. She and Tinker have taken to chasing around the yard full tilt.Have a good evening. We are having chicken breasts cooked somehow, squash and frozen veggies. Also some nice white wine. Please stop in, there's enough for all.

Yay, Robert! Home safely and with a new pup!!!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well this bunch has filled me up. Pancakes, cookies, pizza, burgers, dip, beer and wine. Did I miss anything?

Went to church with DM today and back to her house for lunch. I made a pork loin (marinated in pinapple juice) scolloped potatoes and a pumpkin pie. Came home and rested about an hour, and on to another church service in the community ( they only have services 2x a month.) Then took DGD home. Have spent an hour just catching up with this thread.

When I read how many bulbs some of you have to plant, it makes mine seem minor. In comparison, I might get mine planted in a day!! Although I still have to dig some bulbs and clean them, and get them ready for storage.

Julie, hope that you can get out of bed tomorrow. Sometimes the pain and soreness comes later. So glad that you seem ok and great news that the camera survived the missed step also.

Darius, sorry about the pulled muscle. Hope it heals right away, naturally if you are right handed, then it was the right shoulder you hurt, and vice versa, left handed, left shoulder. Never can be some injured part that you don't depend on.

tgif, I know what you mean. Sometimes, I need to just sit and remind myself, just where I am, and what it is I am supposed to be doing!! This happens a lot when DGD is here.

Sarv, how's your arm? Mine had been so much better, but today for some reason, it has really ached. The weather here was nice, so I can't blame it on the weather.

DR, this year is the first year I have tried dahlias, and I really think that I have "the fever" now. Mine are not named vaieties, but they have been so pretty this year.
I don't want to become addicted to any one thing, I like a variety of flowers and bulbs. Just talked to Pirl in New York and she told me that she has over 2,000 day lilies. Wow. How the heck do you take care of that many?

Okay Robert, you have had all day to loaf, now get on here and tell us about the fur kid.

Well since I have had a busy day, I am going to sit in my recliner, read more of a book I have started, and will check in again later to see what's going on.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the update Robert. If I hadn't been so long winded, I would have know you had posted. Dinner sounds lovely. Already eaten, so someone else can have my share!! Thanks anyway.

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Awww, what beautiful puppies. I love animals. Told hubby I want a peacock when we move. Of course I got the :::what in the heck for??? look::: I do have two dogs and two cats now, oh and about 50 fish. One of my fancy tailed guppies just had babies.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Robert, them doggies is fast, just a blur on the lens. Havin' fun tho.

With all the things I have had on my mind for the move, I have been a bad friend to Mardella. We haven't seen each other since before Katrina went by. We finally got together today at a plant fair in a local park. I conjured up some other members from Dave's to meet us there.

It was overcast all morning which we thoroughly enjoyed. Almost all of us bought plants and we broke up at about 1. I brought Mardella over here to get some plants to take home. She hesitates to take plants, so I pushed some hybrid hibiscus on to her. We went back to her house and enjoyed a bottle of Reisling Kabinett.

The day just slipped by and I can't figure out where the time went. I bought plants that I really didn't need to worry about transporting to the property later. Well, I promise not to suffer you with my complaints about this later.

I didn't sleep well last night. Seems like this always happens when planning an outing with friends. Still trying to be comfortable in my own skin, and although no one can really tell, trying to cut back on the chatter. (I always have good intentions)

Well, got some bid work to do, better get to it. Darius, have a safe trip and good luck.

Molly

Got an email from the Hearing Dog Training Center today saying my application has been accepted. Sad part is that I can't attend. It is in Tacoma, a 70 mile drive, from 7:00 to 8:30 on alternating thursday nights. Good news is the Director said she could probably come up here to evaluate Tinker and talk about getting the class information to me. There's still a chance, and I may even be learning some basic sign language. Hope it works out, but when one door closes another opens. The two of them are really having fun.
