Thats okay Meezer, hubby just finished the honey glaze for the ham and it should be ready in just a few for those who are still hungry. Until then another glass of wine anyone. Darius, I already filled your glass while you were on the pot. LOL

After I finished my pizza, I promptly went to sleep in my chair. I *dreamed* the answer to my question about where that pizza went. And in the dream it was SO funny! Now I wake up and find out that's exactly what I did. LOL

There's still MORE on the counter, if anyone wants it.

Good to have you back Robert, that's a Super furbaby!

Back a bit later...(I'm still a little 'pink' from that embarrassing move on my part. hehehe)

Bal.....sign language with dogs is a snap....at least for my little shih tsu (?).....(can't spell tonight) Taught him how to roll over....shake the right hand........shake the left hand....lie down..........just like normal, but as I was verbally teaching him, I used hand signals too. Well, one day, I, as in ME, got smarter and tried making him do it without me saying anything. And dog-nab-it....he didn't know the difference and did everything.....of course there were treats involved each time. hehehe

But it wasn't any harder than doing it without hand signals....I just had to remember to do both...that was the biggest problem...lol

Good luck....

PS....If you didn't know it, Shih Tzu are almost untrainable...well for obedience anyway....I'm on my second so I am getting to be an expert of obstance.......

Nitey nite all

Sweet dreams....

Maria, if that cold of yours isn't much better tomorrow you should get yourself to a doctor. But glad your lights are bak on.

Gonna do a bit more Food Cupboard data entry then call it a day.
Good night to everyone.

Hap,

I did the same thing when training "Baby". While I was voice training her, I also talked with my hands. (double chatter) I didn't do it on purpose, but it's a good thing I did.

Baby is deaf now so I give her a nudge on the rump to get her attention then give her the signs. But I still verbalize and wonder..........can she read my lips too?

Oh Robert, that pic is precious. Isn't it amazing how quickly you fall in love with them?

Julie, what the heck is pizza doing in the phlox thread? Hit the wrong button did ya? Us computer illerates need big help!! LOL Funny that you dreamed about it.

Magoobu, I am a desperate housewives fan myself, don't ever interrupt me at 9:00 on Sunday night. So where did you go on your outing and what did you do?

Aria, please girlfriend, get yourself to the Dr ASAP. It is too early in the season to get the crud, now go and get rid of it. NAG NAG NAG. Glad to hear that the electricity is back on, so how long did you visit with DD? Probably did you good to get out of the house, even if unwillingly. Those outings do wonders for curing the black hole syndrome.

Carat, what the heck do you want with a peacock. I know, I know they are beautiful, but noisy and messy too. Do you want to be constantly cleaning your shoes of the gobs they leave behind? Had a neighbor who had them, and they wandered through the neighborhood, had all the dogs in an uproar, and would come uninvited to do their business on my front porch. Just go get a picture book from the library!!

Meezer thanks for the link for the faux rocks. I have been experimenting with making some. Haven't perfected it but they are getting better.

Molly, good to see you in the posts again. Have been missing you. Cut back on the chatter? The older I get the more I talk. I too have just acquired the talent of "getting used to my skin". Have lived for years trying to please everyone else, no thought about what I really wanted, so am now exploring the "what do I want type of living.|" Not slighting anybody, I don't think, just expanding my horizons. You go girl!!

Well, Mr. B, is looking at me with puppy dog eyes, meaning he is ready to go to bed. So will give in to "what he wants" and get in bed. And I just said that I am expanding my horizons. LOL

Vegas,NV Filbert, SC(Zone 7b)

Defoecat~I think that last statement falls under to much information for me. LOL I just said I want one. Didn't say anything about actually getting one. Just mentioning the thought to DH and having him shiver was enough for me. I am seriously thinking of getting chickens and a rooster though. We will have 14.4 acres so I think I can put them far enough away from the house so I don't hear them. I am already having issues with my hearing so I doubt it would really bother me.
Bal~ learn that sign language for me too. Not sure what I am going to do with the knowledge of sit and roll over but you never know.
Darius, I think we finished off the bottle of Reisling. I will be going shopping this week and I will be sure to add an extra bottle just for us.
Okay, the house on the property is about 200 ft from the street. I was thinking of lining the drive with trees. I would love Jacaranda's while the blooms are on the trees. Hate them once they started to drop. I don't want pine trees no matter how evergreen they are. Any ideas. I love trees with blooms. Thought about my Texas Mountain Laurels but they grow so slow I will be long gone before the reach a decent height.
Well I think I will jump in the shower and get ready for bed before Desperate Housewifes starts.
See you all in the morning and I hope you all dance with the angels tonight.

Casey

Molly and D'Cat.....I understand what you are saying about your skin. I am just realizing at 65, I haven't the slightest clue of who is in mine. I have always been, Frank Newell's daughter, Joe's wife, Billy's mommy, etc all though life....But that doesn't tell me who I AM!!! Me,,,,myself...I had to act and react to those commitments and people. Now that I am ME, who am I?

Oh my arm is giving me fits again - went off the aleve for several days- guess it was helping. Popped another one this morning. Spent a restless night - tossing and turning and not sleeping. Back to the old routine I think!

Bal, those dogs are in hog heaven - chasing each other all around!! Speaking of sign language- DH is losing his hearing (too many years around pounding machines) and we have talked in sign language for several years. Real basic stuff that we just made up together - works for us!! Teaching babies sign is all the rage around here.

It's breakfast time here and here I am thinking of a glass of wine!! LOL bad way to start out the day! And I'm not even a drinker!

I dug some dahlia tubers and washed them off yesterday and today I read you aren't supposed to wash them - grrrr Some days it just doesn't pay to get outta bed! Will pack them away today - weather is supposed to turn nice again here- they probably will start sprouting!!

Munching on some orange/cranberry scones- kinda dry, but l love them anyways- here's a plate full! Help yourself!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good morning everyone, I am getting ready to head out the door to my chiropractors appointment. He is really helping my arm, although yesterday, I had some pain again. While I am out going to go shopping for a recliner. DH's died last night. Too many trips tilted back!! He's had that one for many years. I asked if he wanted to go choose one, and he said you bought that one, so whatever you pick will be okay!!

After I get home, it's out to the yard for me. Have many things that need doing. It is chilly this morning, but is supposed to be 68 by noon. Just my kind of gardening weather.

Neighbor gave me a huge sweet potato yesterday. I would like to bake it, anybody have instructions for that. I have eaten them, but not made them.

Will check in later to get the sweet potato recipes.

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

defo - I just put mine in the micro - don't have any special time - just like a baked potato- when you poke it and the fork/knife goes in easily it is done! Yum, I love them!!

Just poofed up my hair and now I'm going to the work out joint and will come home with it all smashed and sweaty. LOL -what I do for beauty!

Was 58 in the house this morning- DH still refuses to turn on the furnace. He shuts off the main control in the furnace room and I don''t know how to switch it back on (too many switches for me to choose from) I turned on the electric heater- now tell me, does that make any sense?? He built a fire in the woodstove last night and it got so hot in here we had to open the windows. We go thru this every year.....

Time to hit the road!

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone!
Def- I went shopping and bought lots of fun stuff (for me for once)
Then movies with a friend! Lovely day!
Cool here and sunny great day going to pumpkin patch with DH (day off from restaurant) and son when he gets off the bus at noon.
Looking forward to a nice fall day here may put out some more halloween stuff but nothing too exciting.
Glass of V8 for breakfast for me-- oh and of course coffee!!!

Good morning everyone!

It rained a bit here this morning but is supposed to turn sunny before noon. I'll be babysitting with the DGD from mid-morning until after her nap.

I got more of the bulbs planted yesterday. I did a couple of things differently this year. On the bag of Daffodils there was a 'suggestion' about a planting combination...dig the hole for the Chrysanthemum, put the dafs in the bottom, and plug the mum on top. So I did it! :-D Since I don't intend to be digging up the mums every year, I figured 'why not.' I also planted a couple of clumps of Dafs with muscari (grape hyacinth) planted a couple of inches above. I can't wait to see what will happen in both cases.

Oh...Sarv...I wanted to tell you that there's a site with some very interesting info on storing Dahlias that you might be interested in. Oddly enough it's the Michigan Dahlia Association that published it.
Here's the link.
http://rain.prohosting.com/midahlia/No_Fuss.htm
It's all about storing the tubers in, of all things, Plastic Wrap! I think I'm going to try the technique out with some of my Cannas this year. It won't matter if it doesn't work, I have *plenty* to experiment with.

Guess I'd better get my shores done before the'kid' gets here. (Did I ever tell you how satisfying it is to be "invited" into the world of a two year old? :-) I just love it when I hear "No, mommy, I stay...play with Neenah! (That's 'grandma' and Angel's vocab) :-D

Morning, everyone! I've been up an hour or so (still staying up too late) and have sneezed perhaps 100 times. Windows are all closed and I wasn't outside yesterday, so I have no idea what's making me sneeze.

I'm off to the town landfill to take my garbage (no pick-up here) and when I come back, I'll decide about going to Boone or not. Pulled muscle is still tender but nose is worse from whatever is making me sneeze.

Phoenix, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes I know how inviting it can be to the two year old world and how hard! You are wonderful to take DGD today or anyday they can sure wear you out huh?
My Mother lives near me as do most of my family --- Nothing better in a child's world then spending time with all extended family to give them a sense of belonging.
I do go on I know about this stuff but family is so very important to me.
Especially having an only child I enforce that he has many cousins and get them together often.
He also has his "brother and sister" of the four legged family and even put them on his family tree he made at school.
You see most all the kids had more apples on it then he did so he made sure to tell the teacher he had 2 apples to add to his. Opus and Skillet!!! :-))))))))))

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, hope you all with hurt arm, shoulder, etc. start to feel better. Nothing like hurt body to make your day go bad.

Sarv, about that greenhouse. I wished I had a couple hundred more and I would buy that nice greenhouse. Like I said, maybe later after the kids are totally (note I said totally, meaning I don't have to financially support them anymore, lol) gone, I will spend money on me.
About the dahlia tubers, it is just fine to wash them. Just make sure they are dry when you store them tho. Let them sit out to dry in the wind or light sun.

Julie, I love your idea about planting the mum and bulbs. I have a couple mums in a pot that they need to come out and into the ground, so will also plop some daf and tul. bulbs in the hole too.

Dcat, you ask about dahlias. Well, I think everyone has a favorite flower or plant and dahlias are mine. I do like the variety of other flowers too tho, to blend in with the dahlias and other parts of the garden. As to having so many, a gardener can't have too many, LOL!!!

Molly, you sound just like me worrying all the time to make sure what you plan goes just right. I do the same thing on not sleeping right before an event.

Bal, the pups looks like they are having so much fun together. Am glad that they get along too. That is very important. Hope you get to take the class for the hearing dog. I believe that you are doing something very important. Someday I may even think about getting a hearing dog too but don't want to resort to that yet.

Well, ended up doing odd and ends yesterday in the garden. It was a nice calm day after the wind and rain on Sat. Plus I made spaghetti for dinner with my own homegrown tomatoes too. It was pretty good. The pot will be on the stove for you all to have for your dinner tonight. Dig in!

By the way, does anyone want a Bee Balm, 'Monarch Delight'? It is a pink one. For either trade or postage? I dug it up yesterday since it is was in a tight spot. Let me know. I can look up the pic of it on the PlantFile if you want a pic of it or you can too.

Here is a picture that I took of my dahlia yesterday. Since the lighting was so good in the morn. and it was so calm, I got to take a few more good pics of dahlias. This is 'Fire Magic'.

Later, Carol (DR)

DR I would love to have the bee balm, I have two that I put in this year that seem to be doing well, and I'm sure they would enjoy a friend! I can trade you a hosta, as there are lots of babies popping up, I have dark green and some yellow and pale green. LMK by dmail. No time to post much this morning, laundry up the yingyang, and DH is home using up another vacation day, so it's kinda busy around here. I suppose he'll expect lunch too LOL

(Zone 8b)

Two year olds can be cute but boy are they hard work!! My dgd is always on the go - from the moment she arrives and announces "I's here Ganny" until the tantrum when Mama wants her to go home - "I stay play with Gandad at Ganny's house" and DH heaves sighs of releif as they disappear down the drive and he can go back to sleep!! At least she has now worked out that he is just grandad, not granny's grandad, which made him feel ancient!
You can't take your eyes of her for a minute - the moment you go to the bathroom she is up to no good! Caught her climbing up stairs on the outside of the bannisters last time we baby sat at their house. The baby gate at the bottom was shut so she couldn't go up the treads so she was trying an alternative! When DS and DIL got home the gate was off - being as it was more dangerous in place than missing!

Maria, please go to the doc and get that cough seen to. Its been going on for too long to be just an ordinary cold, you need something to kick it out of play. I'd take you myself if we were nearer, but as I can't I'll just nag gently until you go. I'm good at that! LOL

Welcome again to our new comers to the kitcen, it gets quite crowded in here at times - and boy does everyone chatter! Great fun and the more the merrier, thats whats special about cyberspace - its infinitely expandable and all the eats are non fattening!

Love that pup Robert, how old is she? She is going to keep you, and Tinker, on your toes!

I brought along some apple crumble and sharp English Cheddar this morning - dig in Girls and Boys

Hi folks, just a quick (?) hello at this time.

I went to another endurance ride over the weekend, rode in rain all day but my cheap rainsuit kept me mostly dry. The trails were slopy and slick but we finished ok in the alotted time about half an hour after dark. We started when it was just barely light so it was a long day over trails that I'm sure were longer than the 55 miles we will get credit for. A friend who went with me helped me with the horse during the vet stops and heated up a can of stew for me at the end of the day. I don't consider canned Dinty Moore stew to be a very good dinner but on a rainy night after riding all day it sure hit the spot.

Yesterday I drove home (long trip), and hubby took me out to dinner (bless his heart), then I sat here trying to catch up with Coffee and.... #39 until my eyes were too tired to read anymore. So much going on with everybody. I sort of scanned down and looked at pics of Robert's new pup, such a cutie! Later I will sit down and try to read everything I've missed. Welcome to Carat, it's nice to have another western states resident here.

Now I'm off to feed the horses, do laundry and decide what to thaw out for dinner. Yardwork is waiting too. Lots of it. See you later.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well back from the chiropractor. Stopped by my favorite furniture store and bought DH a recliner as his died last night!! It had been fixed so many times that it had gotten to the point that it was unfixable. They are supposed to deliver it this afternoon. Now when he goes to sleep in his recliner, I may just leave him there, this new one seems so comfortable.

Stripped the beds this morning, and have sheets in the dryer. Don't you just love the smell of fresh sheets. If it wasn't so darn hard, I would wash them every day!! Better if dried outside, but I don't have a clothes line. And I don't think the neighbors want to see my sheets hanging on the fence.

DR, that dahlia pic is just gorgeous! As I said mine aren't named, just picked up a bag of bulbs to try them. I had yellow, white and pink. As I am moving things around this year, I will probably add a few more. Do the bulbs produce bulbletts? I haven't dug mine as they are still blooming.

Mary, I sure do admire you girl. 55 miles on horseback in rain. Now I know that you enjoy it, but to me that would be almost like Chinese Water Torture. I like horses, we've had them all my married life, and I like riding, but I want a smooth trail, a good gentle gaited horse and a good slightly padded saddle. I guess you could say I want the Lexus ride installed in a Jeep!!

Okay Ladies GOB's it is time to collectively nag aria and darius. Dang Nab it, it is time to go to the Doctor. I complain alot about my arm hurting, but at least I am having it taken care of!! Darius, probably pollen. Goldenrod is blooming here, and DH and I sound like participants in the Junk Yard Choir before we take the allergy pill in the mornings.

Okus, Magoobu, I sure am glad I am past the 2 year olds. My DGD is 9 and come to think of it was never much problem even when she was younger. But have babysat family members children, and some of them, if given a choice of babysitting or digging a ditch, would choose the ditch everytime!!

Well going to sign off, and get outside to do the bulb planting, I am going to plant some beside mums, that way the mum foliage will conceal the dying foliage of the tulips, also going to put some in with daylilies. Now the daffs, will go in with some other varieties that I have. So to everyone, have a productive day.

GRAB THE 2X4'S AND EVERYONE TAKE A WHACK....You won't believe what DH did. I spent Sat and Sun digging and washing and putting all my small dahlia tubers in piles according to color. I planned on doing sweeps of color instead of my ususal hodge podge look. Well, I went out this morning all set to put them in their winter quarters and what do I find but ONE BIG PILE!! I was so flabbergasted, that I just sat down and my jaw dropped to the ground. Then I became steamin mad. DH is always after me because I leave piles of stuff on the lawn (which is 1/2 weeds by the way) Boy when he gets home the air is gonna turn blue = all H*&^ is gonna break loose. I am SOOOO ticked at him...

Clouds have moved in and the sprinkles have started too - just in time to match my mood - crappy..

Maria, Dr. Sarv says it is time to get your bum to the doc. At least let him listen to your lungs and see if you need an antibiotic. This has been going on for too long and at our age, you have to be careful. Call one of your daughters, or better yet, give me their number and I will call them for ya. This doesn't sound like a routine cold anymore =- especially with all that coughing. Now LISTEN to me girl!!! We want you well again!

I went to the work out joint, but left absolutely exhausted. I have been porking on the weight again (winter fat already...) and I could feel it. Bought myself another pkg of scones and already half are gone. Somedays I just don't know what is the matter with me! I am so disgusted at myself.

Mary, honest to pete- I am amazed at you. Are you done riding for the year or does this go on in the winter too? I think you need to write down a menu for a week for me, I want some of your energy. I'm serious!!

Darius (achoo) take care on your road trip - hope you get in for a 2nd opinion too.

I'm off to move my summer clothes upstairs and drag the winter ones down. Temp in our house was 56 this morning -DH shuts off the furnace and I don't know which switch to switch it on - He tells me it's not going on until Dec. Last night I complained so, he built a fire in the woodstove and we ended up opening up a window - got too hot!! He never does things in a small way.

Moonflower vine is in bloom and makes me smile...gosh they bloom late. Gotta bamboose.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi folks,

We're having a lazy day here. I'm still recuperating------feeling much better, but not terribly energetic. DH now has the sinus headache and stuffed up head that I had a few days ago. Since its a day off there's nothing urgent enough to get us off our duffs.

Maria, are you taking any cough syrup? I swear by the tussin type with a cough suppressant and an expectorant. It has always worked for me and I'm making DH keep taking it even though he loathes the taste of it. If you don't have any around the house maybe your daughter could go get you some.

dcat and sarv, sorry my poor little brain has gotten muddled, who is it that was diagnosed with carpal tunnel? If you're using the splints with the metal piece down the center, I was told to take that out and step on it to flatten it. The doctor who told me that said that it was originally thought that the bend at the wrist kept the arm and hand in a "natural rest" position, but that it has subsequently been found that this position makes carpal tunnel WORSE! It figures they're still making the splints that way though, doesn't it?

Carol, the dahlia is beautiful! One of my uncles used to raise those up in New Hampshire----might still be growing them, I don't know. I'd love to have beauties like that around, but can barely find time for the veggie garden. The only flowers that work for me are the ones that take care of themselves (often known by other people as "weeds").

julie, pardon me! I meant to ask how you were faring after that fall and somehow lost the thought before it worked its way through to my typing fingers. Glad to know that both you and the camera are basically okay.

Not much in the way of cooking going on here today. I'm just planning one of those old standby tuna casseroles for dinner tonight. I'll bring DH his and then run away fast so I don't have to watch him douse it with that nasty HP sauce. Most of the time he likes my cooking, but once in a while some of our old familly favorites make him go EEWWWWW! ----just as many of his childhood treats make me and my mother shudder. Culture shock??

Hat's off to you Mary. The only time I ever got up on a horse the ground looked much too far away for my liking. I decided that the grandstands at the race track was the ideal distance between me and horses. They are beautiful creatures though.

darius!!!! What can I say? By any chance, do you have that motto "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all" up on your wall? It's no wonder you've been depressed! I do think you should get yourself out of there if at all possible. A change of scene and some good company would likely do you a world of good.

Drat, just ran out of tissues, so with a cheery parting sneeze !!!!! see you all later.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Hey, Sarv, I'll help you with those orange/cranberry scones. Luv em. Maybe you just felt like you deserved a treat after DH done ya dirty with the Dahlias.

Maria, the ladies are right, get your lungs checked. Altho, by the time you can get an appointment you will probably be better. LOL. considering the time delay in need and availability of drs time.

I've been trying to catch up, it ain't never gonna happen. Hope Darius' trip is successful. THink those doggies are the cutest things, Bal. Mary E, can't think it was much fun doing that in the rain. Kudos to sticking it out.

My family were all in and out and taking me with them and filling my life and my house for a coupla weeks and while it was wonderful, I am a little glad to have had the weekend to sleep and be quiet at home.

Everyone showing off their dahilias and I didn't have any this year. My sis had this one tho, and I'd like to know it's name if one of you has an idea. and then next year I'd know which name to hunt for.

I'll never catch up with all the posts from this weekend, but suffice it to say, I'm glad to see everyone chatting it up so well. I had a full weekend at work. It's obvious *virus season* is upon us as we saw an inordinate number of nausea/vomiting/diarrhea cases compared to even a couple of weeks ago. Upper respiratory infections are coming on as well, so I've increased my intake of timed release Vitamin C to 4000mg/day. Just keep those nasty buggies away from me!

Now, onto something completely different. Last week I bought a set of those *dryer balls* thinking maybe they really do work and I could cut back on the amount of fabric softener I use. Let me tell you all, they WORK!!! Like you can't believe. I've dried several loads now and everything comes out static free and soft without being limp. The towels are fluffier instead of being flat like usual. I don't use fabric softener in the towels and they are usually a bit on the stiff side as well as flat....these balls really fluff them up. I bought mine at an outlet mall but I found a website that carries them if you are interested. http://nellieslaundry.com/ and http://www.amerimark.com/cgi-bin/amerimark/cat_item.html?prod=26058&media=G65927&days=XVQ

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Dear friends, love it that you are thinking of me, but want to tell you I am taking prescribed medicine it is:

IC GUAIFENESIN W/CODEINE LIQ MOR

I have this every time I get it from a cold, once a year, ever since remember and it takes forever to shake it, sorry to say

Sarv, my husband would have said, so why did you not tell me?? I thought I was helping you, and that would have been the end lol
All of you just stay well

Drier balls - what's in them that make them work??? Anything new I love to try!

Oh here's a good one for ya. DH came home and I let him have it. He said all the appropriate things' gosh I'm sorry - didn't mean to mess up your plan' etc. Then he magically hooked up the phone that hasn't worked for months!! (no answering machine, which I like to have on) Took him all of ten minutes - he's smiling and I am too.

I've decided that next year I will just buy a flat of small dahlias and get the correct color where I really want things to blend and to heck with the rest- I'll just plant them and try again next year.

I've decided that I'm not cooking tonight- he can.

mg- welcome back to the real world!! When I was in the hospital I wore two gowns - no hinny showing that way. I haven't had my yearly surgery - only a couple of months to go. Maybe I'll skip this year- ok by me!!
