Getting ready for the DG Photo Contest, 2005

Northern California, CA

Thanks Dave! I'll nudge the members on the C&S Forum to see if anything essential has been left out.

While I was typing, okus chimed in with a good idea! Thanks.

Best non cultivated is added!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I've posted a thread in the Lily forum asking if there are suggestions other than: Species, Asiatics, Orientals, and Hybrids.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Anyone have ideas for Trees & Shrubs?

Best Flowering Tree
Best Tree/Shrub combination
Best Flowering Shrub
Most Interesting Bark

??

Thanks Dea - those are added!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Maybe a few more for Trees and Shrubs since it's a broad category?

Most Interesting Leaf/Needle Color
Best Overall Deciduous
Best Overall Conifer

?

I can't believe there are already over 50 entries !

Dea

They are added!

I'm also surprised at the numbers. I haven't even announced the contest yet! Nice!

Northern, IN

More for Trees and Shrubs since it's a broad category?

Most Beautiful Canopy

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

I think some good judging categories for roses would be:

Best Climber
Best Tea Rose
Best OGR (Old Garden Rose)
Best Shrub Rose
Best Mixed Planting
Best Overall

Looks like there are 41 entries already!

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Would most interesting limb silhouette be the same as canopy?

I'm still looking for a "Humerous" catagory Dave. Please?

Northern, IN

I should have said "Tree Canopy" - I was referring to the entire top overall shape of a tree some of which can be beautiful.

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

Under trees and shrubs - how about best for seed (nuts) and (bird) feed - bushes with berries or seeds birds use in winter.

As for "best for seed (nuts) and (bird) feed", that doesn't sound like a photography contest...

dave

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

For wildlife, how about
Best bird
Best mammal
Best reptile or amphibian
Best other wildlife

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave, On the Trees and Shrubs can we have a Best Close-up?
This would include flowers as well as bark.
Andy P

I'm caught up with categories - thanks.

No humorous category will be added - we have enough trouble keeping the Jokes and Chat forum clean. :(

dave

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Just a quick thought? I **think** people who join as members cannot see most photos.

At the end of the contest, it might be nice to have a viewable page of all the winning category photos that is viewable for anyone who "stops by". That might really boost the Subscribers base?

Dea

The contest, once the judging is complete, will be open for everyone to view, even non-members. (I think that's how the older contests were, too)

Northern, IN

Thanx, dave on Trees & Shrubs.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Good deal :)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

For the Wildflowers categories we could have;

Best Field
Best Group
Best Mixed Group
Best Closeup

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

We need Spiders in Wildlife!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

You have "Best Bird picture" in Wildlife and in "B, B, B, and B."

Dave,
I believe these have been used or suggested in the past for BRUGS AND FRIENDS.
Best Brugmansia
Best Datura
Best Container Grown - Brug or Datura
Best Use in Landscape - Brug or Datura
Longest whisker
Best color combo

Could we add
Best Flush- Brug or Datura?
Thank You
Kin

Great!!

We still need judging categories for:

Tropicals
Landscaping
Garden Art
Lilies
Morning Glories
Dahlias

You have all done a terrific job coming up with all these categories. I would have never been able to produce this.

dave

Thank You Dave!
;)
I noticed that when you posted the categories on Brugs and Friends BEST Flush has a ? mark. I thought I would bring this up to your attention so no one gets confused. LOL
Speaking from One who gets confused easily...

Rockford, IL(Zone 4b)

One thing I noticed. I find it a bit ironice that with so many people here growing flowers of all kinds, that the "flower" category was under miscellaneous.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

I'd like to see flowers on its own but then we'll need categories. Last year lots and lots of flowers ended up in Miscellaneous so this is really just a carry over from that

I'd like to see Sunrise/Sunset under Miscellaneous as well.

Dave you are a trooper!

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

haven't read through this entire thread, but is there a place to put photos of Bamboo and/or grasses?

We don't have a category for bamboo/grasses.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Here are categories for Lilies ~ thanks, Dave.

Asiatics
Orientals
Other Types
Best Overall

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I posted over in Tropicals for some help there.

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

How about this for morning Glories?

Best Overall
Best Combination Planting
Best Color Combination (different colors of MG growing together)
Most Unusual ( most unusual use of the morning glories like climbing something you wouldn't ordinarily think about them climbing)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

HEY folks !!

The 2005 DG Photo Contest is ... OFFICIALLY OPEN http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555215/ ..

- Magpye

Did we decided the best place to put a pic of bamboo or grasses?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Count Playa Cofi and Knot in!!!!!

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Is there a limit to the number of photos you can enter?

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

NO
;)

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Thanks

Oro Valley, AZ(Zone 9a)

Raingazer - I placed mine in the Tree and Shrub category. I believe they are closest to a type of a shrub (as we look at the options).

If I'm wrong and we find out later that there is a better place - we can delete it and resubmit it elsewhere later. I hope this helps some.
