Getting ready for the DG Photo Contest, 2005

I know you have a lot of flower categories but what about "just flowers"?
Miscellaneous had 200 entries last year, many of which were flowers. It really limited the judging since there really were some great miscellaneous shots

Maybe add these categories simply to get them out of Miscellaneous:

Flowers
Scenery
Weather which could include sunsets, etc

How about three subcategories for Birds, Butterflies, Bees and Bugs?

1. Bird's 2. Butterflies and 3. Bees & Bugs.

dw - the BBBB will break down into their own categories:

Best Butterfly Picture
Best Bee Picture
Best Bird picture
Best bug picture

Right Dave?? Ü

And I'm still looking for a place for Cactus/Succulents/Orchid Cactus.

At this point they will still have to be pidgeon-holed somewhere in Tropicals or Miscellaneous. I guess I don't understand seperating things like Morning Glories or Hostas into their own categories and ignoring a large group of unusual and photogenic plants.

Oh boy. I'm the first entrant. LOL. Or did I enter too soon?

Happenstance, thanks for the reminder. :) Cacti and succulents have been added.

How do you see the entries that have been added? I looked at the one entry (I thought) and nothing was shown.

When we settle all the categories, I'll post a prominent announcement.

The announcement will be auto-watched by all subscribers, plus it'll be accessible via the Extras menu.

Are Wildlife (or "critters") under Misc?

And are people or kids under misc.?

dwdruley, I changed "Pets" to "Pets and Wildlife".

ilovejesus99: what do you mean by "people or kids"? Is this a category suggestion? Like portraits?

We still need just Miscellaneous for those shots that don't fit anywhere else.

Maybe OTHER under Miscellaneous?

I don't understand about a kids section. What would the categories be? I normally have a 'get over it' attitude towards things that may cause hurt feelings, but on this one, I would not vote. Maybe I am misunderstanding the idea though.

Can you only post one picture per category? and if you include pets AND wildlife sure limits what you choose to post. For me anyway, most all my pictures are of pets and wildlife, LOL

A catagory in which we can submit pictures we have taken of people. I felt like I needed to say kids as they are people only smaller. Just something we caught at random. Not telling who they are. They could be a picture of someone elses kids or just a picture we snapped because we thought it was cute.

I hope I explained it better this time.

You can post as many pictures as you want, and multiple pictures in each category if you wish.

Sandy, I'd like to see if anybody else is interested in that category, and if yes, I'll add it.

Dave, can we enter for someone else (their photo), or must we have their permission?

9kittymom you can't see the photos until the contest is over then they will be opened so everybody can vote on them. It's lots of fun and hard to made a decision.

I would like a place to post kids and people - some of my best pics are of people.

When we begin uploading submissions for the contest, do we need to change the copyright setting in our user preferences?

I would like to see a category for Wildflowers, we have many beautiful wildflowers around us.
Leaving them out would be a shame.

Looked at the catagory's and just wondered where I would enter perennial flowers in?? Landscape?? Misc.??

TuttiFrutti .. MHO only, but I would remove all 'copyright' info, before submittal - just to lend proper justice to ones photos.

Also .. last year, I believe that all of the info associated to the submitter wasn't to be revealed to the voting public ... But I also remember, that all one had to do, was 'hover' our cursors over the photo .. and the info was easily available.

Could the Pets & Wildlife category .. be broken down further .. into 2 sub-categories:
* Pets .. & .. * Wildlife -?-

frostweed/Josephine .. I too, would like to see a category for Wild Flowers also.
After all, growing 'wild' is where many of our current favored garden flowers, got their start ...

Thanks for the contest, Dave. I'm definitely interested.

On Oct 27th at 7:42pm I posted a summery of all of the suggestions as of that time.

Is there a reason most of these have been excluded?

yes I thought there were some great suggestions there, all summarized as requested for convenience. I am waiting for finalization and subcategories before I add my pictures.

I also like the before/after idea, perrenials, and people now that I see it isn't a 'who has the cutest baby' contest, sorry about that Sandy!

When is the cut off for entries and when is the voting going to start? I have been saving pics in a special folder, this is fun.

No problem. I can understand. It would be hard to vote on the cutest baby. I was going for the capturing the moment or expession ad quality of the picture.

I couldn't vote on babies or kids either. They are all beautiful.
