Getting ready for the DG Photo Contest, 2005

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

In the Daylily section, do they al have to be registered cultivars or can any be submitted?

Scenery is changed to Views and Vistas.

Dea: Trees category is created. :)

Any daylily can be submitted. :)

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Nice job, Dave! Both for putting this together, and handling all of our requests! (Even though you didn't create a Pointy category. :-) )

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Thank you very much - it will be a fun contest to watch and enter :)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

I think there were a couple of requests for a Dahlia category. :)

Central, KY(Zone 6b)

If it's not too late, I'd like to second Tree_Climber's request for a judging category of Best Double for the Daylilies Category.
Thanks.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Hey Dave - you out of breath yet???

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Dave for putting in ( Wildflowers ) they are a very important category, especially in Texas.
Josephine.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Now that I've done a bunch of submissions I wondered if bearded and beardless irises could be judged separately. And if there could be a peony category.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Where would Sunflower Photos go?

Best Double is added.

Dahlias category is added!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Gads, you may have more categories than entries.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I kind of hate to ask, but I think we need another category, ( Daturas )
These flowers are stunning and deserve to be noticed too.
Josephine.

Daturas will go with brugs. I'll rename brugs to brugs and friends.

Actually, it was already called Brugs and Friends.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Thanks again for Trees and shrubs. Lots of entries already !!!

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I probably missed where it was told, but what is the entry deadline?

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

kbaumble/Kylie ..

I don't believe, the contest has been 'officially' announced & launched, jes yet ..
(unless I've missed seeing it myself .. anything's possible these days!) .. lol

Probably as soon as the kategories & kinks are ironed out, etc. ..

On the 27th of October, Dave posted the following ...

Quoting:
Let's figure this out, I'll setup the categories and then open the contest!

Hope this aids ya a lil bit ..

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Magpye!

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Oooops........ I thought it was opened and already submitted a couple of photos.

Sorry.

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

Questions: Landscapes... is this a contest on our landscaping abilities, or on our photographing of various landscapes we have seen?
Garden art- is that just art that goes into the garden, or does it include art of the garden (eg. paintings/sculptures of plants and landscaping?)

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Tree, from what I understand, it's okay to go ahead and submit pictures. (I hope so, I have already submitted some).

Quoting:

The latter. It's a photography contest, so we're judging only on the beauty of the photos.

Probably only the former, but who knows what the judges will do...

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Okay...where do I go to find this wonderful contest so I might submit some pics. Is it located on the Home page somewhere and I'm just missing it? Thanks, Deb

Deb,
Here's the link, it's a little hard to locate since the thread has gotten so long, I put it in my favorites folder for easy access.

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

okay...got it...thanks

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, thanks for that link. I have been trying to keep my eye on this thread but did get lost in it all. There are so many categories being talked about that it started to all blur to me.

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

If not too late,
Under Landscape, could you please add the same categories for judging as last year, Dave.

Landscape
categories for judging

Most Improved Landscape
Most Unusual Landscape
Best Landscape Photo Overall
Best Small Garden Photo
Best Pond Photo

Plus:
Best Shady Garden Photo
Best Sunny Garden Photo

Also:
I'd like to suggest changing the title to Garden Landscapes or simply Landscaping which might make it clearer as to the types of photos to submit. (General garden scenes would go under Misc -> Views & Vistas).

Great feedback, sanannie. I've done all you requested.

dave

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Thanks Dave!

That was fast! Thanks Dave!!!

Happily :)

Northern California, CA

Morning Dave -

I'm not sure I have the answer to "categories" for the Cacti & Succulent photo contest, but given the apparently overhwhelming response to this newly added area I think some should probably be created.

Just off the top of my head, would be to seperate at a broad level:
Best Cactus
Best Succulent

Other ideas:
Best Flower
Most Bizarre/Oddest Form
Spiniest Form
Best Macro
Best Combination
Best Public Garden (to differentiate between "home grown" and professionally maintained garden C&S)
Best Overall

Perhaps other C&S lovers will chime in with some better ideas.

Thanks!

We still need judging categories for:

DG T-Shirts
Tropicals
Garden Art
Brugs and Friends
Lilies
Morning Glories
Roses
Wildlife
Dahlias
Trees and Shrubs
Wildflowers

dave

(Zone 8b)

On the cactus front how about a
Best non cultivated - to allow pictures of wild grown ones, from the National Parks for instance?
