non il dente di al!!! esagerato!!! In a word, MUSH. Started over. I hate when I do that! LOL
Coffee and...Part 30...! :-D
Buona sera, meezers, vedo che parla italiano
M5, I envy you for those Moonflowers! I tried some a couple of years ago and they were beautiful, but they just about get going when it's frost time around here. I lost three or four times as many buds as I had flowers. I may try them again if I can figure out how to get them started early enough. The vines get so long so fast that they're very hard to handle. Don't they smell wonderful, though?
Yes, the Benadryl works----SOMETIMES. I find that it works better if I don't take it two nights in a row. I particularly hate those nights when I get to bed extra late or have to get up extra early and just can't get to sleep no matter what I do.
Marcia (aka BB) are you showing any of your work online? I've flirted with the idea of trying some glass art, but I already make silver jewelry, gel candles, and now gift baskets as well as running my store , trying to garden, etc. What I need is the 48 hour day! And on that note, think I'll go try to relax for a change. Night all.
It's Tuesday again - means I'm here with my two cents worth. Went to the Clay County Fair today with two cousins and dh. A good time was had by all! It's a HUGE fair - they brag about being the largest county fair in the country - who knows, maybe they are. lol Didn't see anything I couldn t go without but did pick up two bracelet charms for DGD and a bottle of hand lotion for me for work.
Dug up some hostas tonight and I think I have right at 50 plants for the Fall Festival at work. Did I mentin it earlier? duh! I forget - anyway, I'm selling them all for donations for H.Kat victims. Hope to get a bundle!
Not much else for news, house is a mess, feet are killing me, worried about a few folks on here and down south, etc. and so life goes on. Welcome to the new 'faces' around here, glad to read your posts and glad u feel welcome to post! That can sometimes be intimidating to lurkers and we're all glad to have others join us. (we have new folks to gripe to!!! LOL) (tied that knot yet, d?)
Maria, I had to look that up on the language translator website, my italian is limited mostly to menu items! I was hoping these words were accurate descriptions of mushy, overcooked, or soft. Darn stuff stuck to the pan too, which entailed scraping and cursing, as well as a fresh start with the pasta. Wish I had learned it as a child, as most Europeans do with language skills.
I am up quite often at night, no matter what time I go to bed, and then I wake up at 5:30 no matter what. I don't dare nap if I'm really tired because then I sleep too long, and stay up too late and then up at 5:30 again.............. I always thought after my kids were grown and I wasn't listening for the key in the door when they'd gone out, that I'd finally be able to get to sleep at a reasonable hour, and get 8 hours, so here I am navigating most of the time on 6 or less. Recently I've tried some of the p.m. OTC remedies, and they do work moderately well, but I don't like to depend on them. I just want to lie down, and do like my DH who can fall asleep anywhere any time.
And it's almost time to try it again....Night, Gracie!
Night Gracie
Can't top any of those activities! The pasta sounds good, had scalloped potatoes and ham tonight. Spent the afternoon till 6:00 in the shed trying to figure out how to finish the wiring. Put the outlets in and sheet-rocked but didn't put power to them and it has been so many years I forgot where it was coming from. Took out a couple small wall sections and think I have it figured out, but it's too dark now. The 12 X 12 stained glass part was first, then 10 or so years later came the 11 X 12 addition (which never had power) and 10 or so years after that came the next 9 X 12 addition and a need to extend the wiring. That was 6 or 7 years ago, give or take a decade. Tomorrow may be the day ! Cut down the Kiftsgate rambler rose on the side of the shed because it had just gotten too big. One of the branches, most of which had grown this summer, measured 23 feet long. There is a smaller one growing up next to the shop and another out by the Wisteria arbor so I'll still have some of the beautiful white drifts.
Darius. Got my fingers crossed and good thoughts for the sonogram and appointment on the 27th.
Well GOBs, have a great evening, relax, and have some sprinkles on your ice cream.
Geez guys, I am just going to find time to check in during the day. Took a lot of time reading what you all had posted. I had one of my didn't get a thing done day. I hate it when I can't look back and say that I accomplished something.
Sarv and McCool, I take OTC PM pain reliever. It does a pretty good job. When I go to Walmart, will buy the Benedryl and try it. Nothing worse than wandering around in the wee hours with nothing to do, and no one to talk to.
Butterqueen, I used to have the restless leg syndrome, and took and OTC product that had quinine in it. It really did help. My cardiologist told me that this was an early sign of "heart problems" especially circulation. Please have it checked out.
Joyous, Meezer and Sarv, had I not looked through the garbage, I would have had to use the coffee urn as a "new age planter". LOL>
Meezer, sorry about your lost jewelery, I once lost a diamond out of a ring, and grieved over it for a long time. One time my brother came in and had his partial plate wrapped in a napkin, laid it on the kitchen table, and DM, thinking it was trash threw it in the garbage. The bad thing of it was, we lived in the country and burned the trash, so it was history.Say the macaroni
was mush. Tell me what you put in your chicken salad. Sounds good. Good that you got some rain.
Sarv and BetsyBug, I've had that sinus issue and learned that first you try treating that problem before contacting the dentist.
BetsyBug, any of your artistic endeavors are not pipe dreams, If you don't try, you will never know if you can do it. Go for it.!!
Kooger, that is the koolest (pun intended) idea, selling the hostas as a fund raiser. Way to go.
Robert, scalloped potatoes are my favorite dish. That sounds so good.
Darius, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you go for the sonogram, and on the 27, for the other appointment. Wish I were closer to offer support, or just drive you to the appointments. Long distance (( ))'s.
To all you former lurkers, welcome, feel free to kick back, put your feet up, enjoy the coffee and cyber snacks, and tell us what's on your mind. I enjoy this forum so much, can't tell you the times that it felt like a life saver for me.
Well off to bed to see if sleep will come, or elude me tonight. Have a restful evening, sleep tight.
Well, guess maybe my Domino's pizza will top that mushy mac & cheese, huh? Hope so.
Daruis, I have been meaning to say something to you but am not sure what to say. But I do hope the doc. will give you good news. The best to you.
I understand about you guys not sleeping. I used to sleep without any problem but a year ago, I started to not getting much sleep. Between going to a divorce and then finding out that I have been going thru menopause for 2 years, sleep and nite sweats have taken a toll on me. Then with the weight gain due to the meno., I get pretty mad at myself and then don't get much sleep. Trying to work in the yard like I did early last year when I was the skinniest ever after the divorce, but don't have the energy to do it and I do like to eat.
So need to go outside and get some of those calla lilies ready to be shipped. Julie, you are one of those people.
Later all,
Carol (DR)
Also Sarv, you are a lucky person for the calla lilies too.
Thanks defoecat, I will call my doctor tomorrow about that. My dad died from a heart attack at 50, so I will make sure to have it checked. I have 'rocked' my legs in my sleep since I was a little girl, but then in the last few years, they started jerking too, like they do when I take prednisone. They still do it with the pills, but not as bad.
Today I worked until about 4 and when I came home it looked like it might rain so I planted 6 plants that have been suffering in their pots too long. I hope they will make it, I wish I hadn't put it off so long. It has been so hot I haven't felt like messing with it.
I started on another afghan for the Katrina kids, will finish it tomorrow. I'm hoping to get 5 done before I send them off.
I'm off work on Wednesdays so I sleep until 10 unless the 'pack' wakes me up. Adam leaves at 4am for the coast, I am so worried about him. I hate it when he's out of town anyway.
Good night everyone, Rachel
Carol, DR,
Funny isn't it, just before I started into the menopause thing I lost a drastic amount of weight. I think I might of been down to 105, didn't have a scale then and don't now. But I do know I woke up one day to put on a pair of casual shorts and they almost fell off my hips. That was pretty bad, too skinny then.
But it was like my metabolism floored the accelerator for about a year, then it ran out of gas and came to a dead stop. I gave away all those size 2's that I bought during a shopping spree, then bought some $2 stretch shorts, sports bras and large muscle type shirts. I quit weighing myself at the grocery store after I saw 150. After my split up last year I lost about 15-20 pounds in a couple months. Now I seem to have settled in around 135-140. I don't eat potatos, rice or pasta (rarely anyway).
All during my younger years it was a great effort to keep slim, suck in my tummy, make the extra efforts to look and be someone who attracts the right kind of fella. All these things to make someone love me. I have discovered that none of those things work, so have decided to be comfortable. I have found you can try to plan your destiny and sometimes it works, but basically "what will be, will be".
Now who will be humming that song all day today? Que Sera! Sera!
I'm off to work now, see ya later.
Molly
:^)))
It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is snoring. The weather girl is even telling everyone to stay off the road!! Hail, lightning, rain etc. All welcome!! I'm snug as a bug in a rug - tv on, breakfast on my lap and busily reading here- what more could a gal ask!
Yesterday afternon I called my mom and went down to clean under her counters - she has had knee surgery, is overweight, and just plain old, so I did some work for her. She sat and we talked as i worked and it was fun. After I got one section done, she said that was enough for the day, but with gas prices so high, I wanted to get everything done that I could. Cleaned a ton more cupboards and wiped down all her cupboard doors. Man were they dirty!! She can't see where she spills things anymore- practically had to use a screw driver. Then took up all her big rugs and swept the floors. The last thing I did was organize her antique dish bureau - ohhh, she had some pretty things. I ended up with a set of little bowls that I remember eating from growing up - yahoo!! It was worth all the cleaning!!
Thurs I am going to clean the stroke cousin's house - it has been way too long and I am sure it will be awful.
Daisy - can't wait to get the callas!
I slept good last night, but had the most awful dreams (I was stealing!!) Woke up exhausted. I am not sure what is worse, not sleeping or having bad dreams!!
Darius - we'll be thinking of you today!! Take care and stop on your way home and get yourself a treat!!
darius, I haven't posted much in awhile. I have been too busy between work, gardening and writing gardening articles for The Mountain Voice. Did you ever get moved out of the apartment where I visited you? If so, where are you now?
I am sorry to hear about these worrisome health problems. I am holding my breath that noting serious happens to me because it will be 4 more years until Medicare kicks in.
Usually every spring I bounce back from the summer "blahs" as the gardening builds me up. But that didn't happen this year. Don't know why, just older I guess.
I am going to Wilmington Saturday. I will pick up my brother and his wife in Raleigh, who are flying in from Wyoming. While in Raleigh, I will spend some time at the state's archives and the Natural History Museum.
Then we will drive down to Wilmington, where he will rent a car.
I will be staying on Wrightsville Beach, at the extreme southern end. I'll be in a house owned by my friend that has the wine shop in Juliette, Ga. Her daughter lives in the main house and I will stay in the cottage out back. I will have the place all to myself! I hope to stay about 4 or 5 days, but not too long as I don't want to leave my spousal unit without wheels too long. He still doesn't drive now, but should be able to soon.
I have so much to do - visiting the museum of the Cape Fear, which I helped to start up, visiting 2 cemeteries, getting to see my young cousin's winery he just got going this year, visiting an old friend in Burgaw, yeeeesh! So much to do, so little time.
I have also vowed to go swimming twice a day.
Morning GOBs. Storm messed with my auto timer on the coffee maker and it's taken me a while to get it going. Am I the first one up this morning? Nothing planned for today, except maybe pick up a book. Yesterday I cleaned out the cupboards over the frig and freezer, and put up some shelving. Discarded a bunch of stuff that I haven't used in 5 years. (Angel food cake pan? haha ha) I seem incapable of throwing out a usable glass jar. Don't know what I'd use about 50 for but I must have thought I could.. Gone with the trash now. I have plenty of jam or jelly jars if I need them. Also have room to squirrel away more **** as time passes. lol
I think I've posted that chicken salad recipe before but since we have some newcomers, I'll do it again. It's one of our favorite summer (read lazy) dishes. Quantities are your choice...ingredients are very flexible...
Cooked chicken - diced or out of a can or frozen bits
Cooked pasta (NOT overcooked) I like med. shells or fiori
As much red/green seedless grapes as you like
As much diced red/green apples, skin-on, as you like
Celery diced fine
Optional: hard boiled egg grape tomatos
Mix it up, add Miracle Whip or if you prefer, Mayo
I toss a handful of salted cashews on top, but you could use toasted almonds, chow mein noodles, peanuts....This is a pantry friendly salad.
Anyway, I threw out the mush, cleaned the pot, and made a new batch of fiori and it turned out fine. DS and DIL stopped by to pick up boxes for packing and they made a good dent in what was left.
Heckova storm last night. Ripped a large branch off one of the big trees, I haven't checked but I'm hoping it landed on our neighbor's side of the property line (which he has clearly marked with little sticks for fear that a flower might creep over into his pristine turf). LOL We had spectacular lightening and thunder, with 50mph wind.....and ultimately, very little rain. Blew our metal two seater porch swing right over! Whooooooosh!!
Off to loaf the day away......check in later.
Edited to say that the October issue of House and Garden has an article saying nice things about our Dave and this site. Should be available this week, subscribers already have their copies. Sales will be booming if all the DGers run out to buy a copy!!!

Good Morning fellow GOB's! And what a nice crisp Autumn morning it is...here at least. (Actually, this is tongue in cheek...I'm *not* ready for 50° nights just yet. However the mid 70's in the daytime is fine with me.)
We got rain drops last evening that, if I'd tried, I'm sure I could have counted individually. We really need rain in this part of the country. I think we're over 7" below average right now.
I started disassembling my garden containers yesterday. I guess that means I have to clean off my plant light stands and get the timers all set up again. (It can't be *over* already!) Now I get to start making my morning trek down to the basement to check on the watering needs of my overwintering cuttings...oh well, it's something to do.
Hi Woodspirit...haven't seen you for a long time.
D.R. (Carol) I think you already know it was me and Sarv who wanted those callas but I'll mention it again just in case. (I'm also the same one talking to you about the dahlias. hehehehe)
Robert, give or take a "decade"? That's a good one...and something I've become very familiar with around my place. LOL
Hello to everyone!
I'm off to straighten out my garden shed so I can store my cuttings out of the sun and wind until I get that basement cleaned up.
Later,
~julie~
Just tried the chat room - but i can't cope with the typing delay. So I'll stick to this format!!
Darius hope those tests were OK. Keep your chin up, we are all rooting for you, and will be again when you see the lung man.
Brought some hot toasted Muffins this morning, great with coffee or the Orange Juice I also brought. They are best eaten hot and dripping with butter, but that doesn't do the waistline much good!
Back Later
Carol
Good morning everyone. I brought some rhubarb cobbler. After the summer heat zapped the rhubarb I watered it good and got it to wake up, so I made a cobbler. Soooo good with vanilla ice cream! No calories in the cyber goodies, isn't that great. And they shouldn't hurt your teeth either.
Daruis, I hope your doctor gives you good news. Keep us posted. Meanwhile, I'm praying for you.
Woodspirit, it's nice to see you back here. I guess your visit to the beach cabin will happen a few days after Hurricane Ophelia comes through. Walk the beach for me and pick up some driftwood! After a storm is the best time to find things. I live clear across a rather large state from the beaches so it's been a long time since I had a walk on the beach. When I lived in Alaska I did a lot of beach walking.
A few years ago I had a bad sinus infection that gave me the worst earache I ever had. It lasted about 10 days and then just got better for ? reason. I might have taken decongestants but when the drainage started (more like a flood) the earache eased up, and I have never had it again. Like the old Negro Spiritual says, the bones are all connected. And everything between. A friend of mine had a lot of stomach/intestinal upsets for years, had her upper teeth pulled after her new dentist showed her the xrays of the roots going clear up into the sinus cavities, and since then her digestive problems have been much better, and her arthritis got better, too. Yep, we are all connected.
Yesterday I spent most of the day in town. First had lunch (long and leisurely) with my daughter-in-law, then went to wash the throw rugs at the laundry before getting the rest of the stuff on the list. While at the laundry I visited with a lady who needed some directions. I asked her where she was from and she said from that motor home parked outside. They are full time RVers and spent the summer on the Oregon coast out of the heat. Her husband had a heart transplant 2 or 3 years ago and is doing quite well although he had to spend some time in the hospital having anti-rejection drugs adjusted a few months ago. They are spending their kids inheritance, I told her I was glad to hear that since they are the ones who worked for it.
Who was asking about the grapejuice maker? I saw another brand at my discount store yesterday that is cheaper than the Mehu-Liisa but looks like about the same thing. It's called the Norpro Juicer-Steamer and is about $70. It's stainless steel, maybe not as heavy or as large as the one I have. Anyhow, there it is. The jar method sounds easy enough, I think I might try that with a few jars if my grapes ever get ripe before the deer eat them.
I'm glad to see another new face around here, bring your friends, they are welcome too. This is not an exculsive club, after all, they let me in.
Today my DIL is coming out from town to pick green beans and get a cabbage and some corn. A neighbor had asked me to help her dig up and divide some Iris today, so between all that and the laundry and some of my own gardening it will be a busy enough day. Gotta get busy now, I'm wasting daylight.
Just came in from cleaning up the daylilies pulling up the dead stuff among other messes I seem to find . Also picked the last of the cherry tomatoes now have to dig up the vines. Can't do things like that too long, all year I have had a sciatica problem. Had x-rays and shots, nothing showed nor helped. Then I went to a chiropracter and he helped some but now he told me to see an orthopedic surgeon which I have to do tomorrow. Something may be wrong with my spine or hip, I just hope it is nothing serious.
Your chicken salad sounds yummie, Meezers, am copying it!
It is expected we'll get some of hurricane ophelia, now down below us, hope most of it will go in an easterlry direction far, far away from our coast.
Molly, I used to weigh a normal 100 lb, am 5.5, now I weigh 115, guess it is normal to put on some weight while getting older but I remember when I took a deep breath my slacks fell off, now I have to be carefull what I put into my mouth, it is there just for a minute but forever on the rest of the body, lol
Maria
HI, catching up a busy bunch. We got rain yesterday..just enough to wash the air and cool the weather down, but so glad to see the end ( I hope ) of the 90's. Sinus infection-started antibiotics today..need to get some sleep..the brown recliner is Not the place to spend a night, if I want to walk the next day.
Waiting for lady to come and get some sedum clumps-hope she does come-want the $$ for dg person in Mississippi.
Have only one dg trade left to dig..the season was so short, with the above average temps and below average rain..hope that next season sees more flowers..maybe from the daylilies that I started from my seed crosses this spring :) :)
Collecting seeds for my award winning plants- to be planted in Jan.
Tah Dah--off to see if she is here..
Bye for now.
3:30 and I'm done for the day !! whoopee, the shed is wired! Just hooked up the last three light switches and all 14 outlets are hot. Need to find suitable fixtures to install then there will be light. Turned on the oven and put the biscotti dough in the freezer to firm up. Will bake them, slice, turn, and all that stuff and leave them in the oven (turned off of course) till morning then do the lemon glaze and freeze them. I do like those little delights. Neighbor said the new insulated windows should be here by friday. That means installation all day saturday, but he is starting on the fence rebuild tomorrow so I'll have to really hustle. That's what keeps the boredom away I guess. Didn't sleep much last night so after this chilled Negra Modelo dark ale from Mexico it's off to a well deserved nap.Oops, forgot about the biscotti. The best laid plans of mice and men are aft to gang aglie, so says Robby Burns.
Darius, any word on the sonogram yet ?
Robert, that test was this morning at the local hosp. I don't expect to hear results until Friday or even Monday.
Lung specialist appt. is 2 weeks from yesterday.
I missed out on the conversation with sarv about getting dental work done. But we lost someone close to us that did NOT have heart trouble until after he had a gingivectomy. My spousal unit is a bit reclusive and this guy is a very out-going hippy type. How on earth they became friends I will never know.
He had a cold and told another friend that he just couldn't get the chest congestion cleared up. But it was an infection in his heart.
He was so healthy otherwise, a vegetarian and just a robust person, that I thought he'd pull through, but he didn't. My spousal unit lost his best (and only close) friend.
When Jimmy was young, he was a blond-headed Adonis. He was doing some work outside my restaurant one day with his shirt off and I remarked that he had a good build. He said, "Well thanks, but I want to have square tits like the movie stars."
Well I had a busy day. Went to chiropractor this morning. He is really helping the neck/back pain as well as the arm pain. Afterwards took friend/neighbor to lunch as her birthday was Sunday, but she was out of town. We went to a historic house in Frankfort that has been turned into a tea room. It was fabulous. Furnished with antiques, and the food was really good. Had broccoli/cheddar soup, and chicken salad sandwich. Came home and puttered around. Fixed supper, etc.
Molly, I hear you about the weight. Have never had a problem with weight until the big M hit. Gained about 30 pounds. Then when I had my "mystery illness" lost that 30 and 15 more. Now my weight is staying at about 122.
Sarv, yeah for the rain. I go every one in awhile to clean for my mom. I know what you are saying about the cabinets. Last time I cleaned hers they were really gross. I told my DGD that when my eyesight goes to please let me know before my cabinets get that dirty.!!
Woodspirit, welcome back, you haven't been around much. It sounds like a great trip. Just be sure to stay out of the way of Ophelia., and thanks for the tip about House & Gardens. I will be sure to buy that.
Julie, why did you have to remind me that I need to do the container clean up. I just hate that job. But will unwillingly do it, cause it is worse when the weather turns cold.
Okus, and Mary, thanks for the muffins and the rhubarb cobbler. I need to take a morning walk and check on my rhubarb. The heat just about did it in. Maybe I can revive it??
Aria, sorry to hear of the s-nerve pain. Go to orthopaedic surgeon and have it checked out. I know that condition is really painful. Hope it is something that he/she can help.
Robert what a good job with the wiring. DH has the "want to" but doesn't have the "know how", or at least that's what he tells me. If I am ever in need of another DH, friend, companion, whatever, I am going to check out his carpentry credentials the first thing!! I love biscotti, do you have a "special recipe" that maybe you would share?
Well off to check some other forums before I try the sleep thing. Nothing worse than a sleepless night, except to have those bad dreams/nightmares. And then there are times I have downright stupid/silly ones to. Don't know whether to dread them or anticipate them.
Good night all. Rest well.
Hi all -
Defoecat - thanks for your "artistic endeavors" support! I plan to keep learning knew things for the rest of my life.
and - someone asked if I have anything to show you - well yes and no ..yes - I've got pictures and no I can't get to them cause that pc is dead right now (long story). I'll post some when I can.
Darius - I hope we have nothing but good news from this day forth - I'm declaring it - because - I had a rather awful revelation today at work. There's nothing like finding out you've been doing something wrong for 6mths! Some how - and it's basically because all of what I do is new to every industry on the planet - we went down the wrong path and now - I get to fix it. One reason I'm up late tonight. I'll be working from home tomorrow - where it's quite and I won't have someone in my cube or on the phone every 10 minutes - and hopefully can get it all straightened out. Meanwhile - had 3 other fires pop-up - so I'm declaring SEPT 15 as the beginning of our "NO MORE BAD NEWS OR BLUES" period. So there - done, did, over!!!!
Molly - you mean I could actually LOSE weight with menopause - Oh - PLEASE whatever god is listening to me - make me like Molly!!!! ;-) I go for my "yearly" Monday - and I'm thinking she and I are gonna be doing some talking about things.......
well - just checking in before going to bed. I'll be back.....
M. ;-)
Brrr is it chilly here this morning - 52 outside. I woke up with the covers pulled up to my ears!! Got up and DH had shut all the windows- guess he was cold too!
Sat on my hinny all day yesterday but got a spurt of energy late in the day! Made frijitias for dinner- yum - new receipe. Washed all the dishes (I usually leave them for morning), dusted upstairs and swept all the floors, straightened my tupperware cupboard. I think that was enough!! Today is cleaning day for my stroke cousin and then a visit with his 85 yr old mother. It's a long trip up to his house, but I turn the radio on and sing with abandon.
My grapes DO need picking and I was be angry with myself if I let them go. Just can't get the oomph to do it. Told DH to pick them and I would can them - he has no oomph either!!
DH told me he was going camping this weekend - I wonder if he would have ever told me?? He said 'you can go if you want' -my bet is that he won't go - I'm not saying a word about it.
Pass the biscotti - sounds good for a treat this morning. See everyone after the cleaning job@@
Good morning,
Just checking in before the start of another busy day. If I get through this week, things will settle down a bit. Thursdays are supposed to be my day off. Ha!
BetsyBug, sorry about the bad news at work. I'm with you when it comes to working from home where it's quiet. (Do it all the time becuase my desk at the Food Cupboard is a "community" desk, the office is grand central station, and the data entry computer is in an internview room and not accessible when we are open.) I hope you are albe to fix the problems quickly with peace and quiet.
I DID get through my todo list yesterday - the first time I've actually been in to the Food Cupboard for any length of time since we got back from our trip. But I was up to midnight on Tuesday, catching up with data entry. In the first four times the place was open in September, they provided food for 880 people. We usually help about 2000 in a month; so if that continues, September may prove to be a record month.
And I found time to get a few pics from our trip up on the Canadian gardening forum -
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/545059/
Today, gotta do some photocopying for the Food Cupboard - we start making referrals for the Snowsuit Fund on Monday and I just got the form yesterday. Then go pick up the grandtwins and take them to their first Kindermusic session for this season (something DH will usually do, but he's out of town). And prepare music for my handbell choir which has its first rehearsal tonight.
Did I mention that the Food Cupboard grant application is due tomorrow? (I think they'll give me an extension because it came unexpectedly, two months earlier than last year, and just before I was taking my vacation, but I want to try to get it done just so it's not hanging over my head.)
And when I get time, I did a hosta exchange with Sanannie on Tuesday and have 11 new hostas to plant. (see pics of her lovely garden at http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/545026/
Have a good day.
Ann
Ann...I just HAD to tell you that I visited Sanannie on that link. WoW!! What gardens!!! I'm so impressed...AND inspired...by the work that she has done. Now she has me pretending to be "The little Engine that COULD"! (I think I can...I think I can...I think I can!) See...if you hadn't joined in the group, I never would have seen those gardens! Thanks!
GOOD MORNING to one and ALL!
~julie~
Wow! Sanannie's gardens are really impressive. Inspiring. Humbling. LOL I don't think I have enough years/energy/imagination to accomplish anything like that!
And Good Morning, GOBs. I picked up a copy of the Oct. House and Garden yesterday, and before everybody runs out and parts with $4, I am willing to share. If I send it to the first response, perhaps they will send it on to the next person, and we can all enjoy. Postage is cheaper than the mag. The article is somewhat brief, but accurate. Doesn't mention the wonderful threads that exist under each of the forums, but I suspect it will bring in new members because of the publicity.
Busy day ahead, first reply gets it. Maybe I can even send it today if I hear before 11: am CDT
Meezer, send it to me, please. $4.00 for a magazine? You can tell I buy them frequently (not). I am in the address exchange. When I get through with it, I will be happy to pass it along.
Just to update you, I am in a major cleaning mode. Not because I want to, but because I HAVE TO. Me and DH was in a Mexican Standoff, I say I don't get the house dirty all by myself, and shouldn't have to clean it all by myself!! Looks like he won------- this time. He has gone fishing today, so after I stew all day, will probably have a HEATED conversation tonight!! Somebody contact him on his cell, and tell him not to come home.LOL
Don't feel bad, my DH couldn't get his dinner plate to the dishwasher, instead of the sink last night. Does the world not revolve around them??? See Dmail.....will send. I'll let whoever wants it next contact you, so you can continue the chain.
Ok, I am not real religious but I need some help.
My mother is having a pacemaker put in tomorrow and I am scared for her. She is 80 years old, had a car accident due to blacking out from her heart not beating right, and had a heart attack 2 years ago after my father had cut off 4 of his fingers.
So I will be waiting long and hard tomorrow on how she is doing thru all this. So please pray for her tomorrow.
Sarv, you think it is chilly there at 52 degrees, try 40 degrees here in Oregon this morning again.
Well, off to work.
Later, Carol (DR)
D.R. You got it!
(And it was mid 40's here last night...definitely time to get those tender houseplants in out of the north garden!)

D.R. My Mom had quad bypass surgery in 2001 (88 yrs old) and she is still doing fine as she rapidly approaches her 93rd birthday. Yes, things can go wrong, but most often, things go very right!!! I still have the joy of her company and wisdom to guide me through my life. My prayers are with you, her and the rest of your family through this scary time.
Many years ago, my parents and Grandparents went to visit my sister for Thanksgiving. A great meal was had by many, with lots of leftovers put in the fridge for the next day. Now, while my Father couldn't do much more than boil water in the microwave, My Grandfather and BIL were both decent cooks. Sister, Mom and other female type relatives went out the next day to catch all the great sales and left the men to fend for themselves. The ladies shopped til they dropped (dropped into a neat little cafe), had lunch and returned home around 3:00. The men were irate at the time - starving! Sister explained that the fridge was FULL of food. The men said - "but there was no one to put it in the plate"! Go figure!
The weather here is trying to shift gears to early fall, but still getting a little warm during the afternoon. I get outside things done before noon, and inside things are still getting put off while I "rest" from the morning workout, and catch up here (when the server is up).
I just love this thread - I read so many things that I can relate to!

DR, the surgery for a pacemaker is an easy surgery. I worked in open heart surgery for a few years, and this isn't really open heart. Like all surgeries the complications can more easily come from anesthesia, but it's rare. She and you have my prayers.
The power was out all over my county from about 9am until after lunch, so I've been slow to see all my watched threads.
Well, I am still cleaning and stewing!! Stopped for a break. Won't be any supper in this house tonight unless it is brought in. I am down to the kitchen, so it probably won't take more than an hour to do that. Have in addition to the cleaning, done three loads of laundry, and changed the beds. I did ours and the guest room, cause I think someone will be sleeping there tonight. DH hasn't returned home yet, so who called him? LOL
defo -he's over here in the barn with my DH. I just asked DH if he could do something because the garage door opener was squeeking something terrible. He said ' WD is in the closet' - ohhh if looks could kill. I will get back...
Took forever to clean my cousin's house - it was a MAJOR pig sty - they walk thru it with their work boots on and mud is all over. Thank goodness it has been a dry summer - they are well drillers tho, so they wallow in the mud. Cousin is a sorry guy (stroke/one armed) He had the fan roaring in his bedroom, and a space heater roaring in the dining room, with the doors all wide open. Coffee all over and I mean all over - floor, walls, table etc. He is unstable on his feet too.
Stopped to see my mom on the way home - she is an inspiration - so lively at 81. They go away or have someone over every day - play cards and games and always eat out. May I be so lucky....
Have nothing planned for dinner - I cooked last night!! Stopped for lunch at McD's - chicken sandwich and TWO cherry pies - man I just love that junk....I worked hard enough to work it off, so I don't feel the least bit guilty.
Friend is coming over to get some tomatoes - DH just told me "I hope she doesn't want tomatos - we don't have enough for outselves" - I'll sneak her a couple....don't tell.
Hello again. Today is that "fast forward" day to try to get everything watered, trailer packed, etc before I leave in the morning for another endurance ride. Oh, and I need to ride the chosen horse too, just enough to make sure he is ok before I haul him to the ride. That'll take about an hour.
The weather is just about perfect!! It will be in the middle 70's today, and it isn't freezing at night tho we have had a few nights in the 30's. Soon enough (well really too soon) that hard frost will come and then I'll be into getting the garden cleaned up, manure hauled out of the shed and tilled under for winter and all that. To everything there is a season.
My neighbor is coming to pick beans today. I helped her dig and divide iris yesterday and brought home 4 bags full, now have to get them planted soon, next week I guess since there sure won't be any time to do it today.
Darius, I hope you don't get too much of that storm, it seems to be moving out to sea just a little according to the report I saw about an hour ago.
Gotta run. See you all next week.
Mary, I don't think I will get any of this storm... although I'm in NC, I'm very far inland bu 6-7 hours from the storm.
I could use a little rain, though. Not the pounding the coast is getting!
