Coffee and...Part 30...! :-D
What was that, Darius? Speak up, I don't read lips......lol
Heck, it didn't even post! What I thought I posted was a SMILE!
LOL, Darius, just loved having a chat with you, we get 'keds' most every where, they are still very comfortable to wear. My feet have grown also from a 6 to a 7 1/2 I do wonder why that happens, also feet get wider at least mine did.
Could not get DG all afternoon, did anyone have the same problem?
Maria
Good news and bad news all in the same day, Darius. Maybe the bad isn't all bad, a change to a specialist may bring you better results, so we will be optimistic for you. New Knobs! I still don't have any on my kitchen or bathroom cabinet doors, and I don't miss them. There is space for fingers for opening, and knobs, and the area around them, always seems to get greasy and soiled so I never pursued it.
Yeah, I'm in the big foot club too. Nine and a half, and with the arch supports graduated to a D width, in spite of my narrow heels. Keeps them from pinching my toes. I've been getting a brand called Propet Walkers, which aren't as big and clunky as the Reeboks and Nikes, more like Keds. Leather uppers and they are washable and wear well. Last time I got them they were on sale so I bought three pair, two white and one black pair (for dress-up!). I'm still wearing the first whites, and considering what I've put them through this summer they are in pretty good shape.
Did it again today, instead of putting those niners up and loafing, I went shopping. Needed to make several stops and one of our garden/gift shops had 70% off on much of their garden decor and ceramics. Found three cookie jars marked down to $4 ea. and decided to replace my glass canisters which don't hold enough sugar or flour to be convenient. Can't get a measuring cup into them. I'll use the third for those odd bits we collect, bread sticks, seasoning packets, crackers, etc. Been dragging the hoses around all day too. Our grass is downright crunchy in spots.
DH ordered a 3 lb. burrito for dinner last night and only managed to eat part of it. He can have some more tonight, and I'll freeze the rest for his lunches at work. I don't see much point in cooking with that much leftover food in the 'frig.
I'd volunteer to adopt some of those white callas, but with my track record of failures in over- wintering tubers, I will forego killing them and let them have a happy home somewhere else. Our basement is too warm, the garage(s) are too cold, plus by spring I seem to forget where everything is! I found dahlias this spring, way too late, after they spent two summers down there. ....pretty sad sight.
Hmm, I grabbed a muffin this morning but now I want one of Robert's biscotti. Here's those cookie jars, promoted to countertop storage. $4 each......woohoo!!
Meezer, they are real purdy...and what an idea.
Hap
Well, it's Good-nite, George and Gracie, for me.
I take off early in the am for NYC to be with my DD so I won't be here until next Sat.
I'll miss you all.
God Bless
Hap
Man, you GOBers had a busy day!! Yikes Darius - you know me and doctors....Fingers and toes crossed here for good news. Does that mean you will have decent vented heat this winter?? Speaking of which, I called the dentist early this morning only to be told that the dentist was STILL on vacation....I spoke to the friend of mine who works for him. She said it sounded like a cracked filling and would get me in Tues morning. when the dentist returns. Guess that is better than nothing, but I was hoping to get the trouble taken care of today. Oh well.
Sister and I spent the afternoon shopping. The morning was spent in front of the TV (can you imagine) First the today show, then Dr. Phil, the Ellen show, then the new Martha Stewart show. Really blew the morning...This afternoon we made it to a zillion stores - I managed to buy two phones - we have the old ones where the reception is *****. Got the new 5.something megahirtz. Only problem is that when I put it up on the wall, several screws/holes show. Darius - Molly - anyone ...what should I do?? Dh said the holes are anchors of some sort and can only be dug out - too much work he says. SO I need to put something behind the phone to cover them up - I need help with ideas.
It is still in the 90's here and frankly, I am sick of this hot weather. Tomorrow is supposed to be the last hot day of the year. Promising rain on Wed - heard that promise before tho.
I'm bushed- gonna get the pj's on and flop on the couch. Hopefully I'll get a full nights rest... Take care all
Sarv, get some fiberglas drywall tape, OR some metal drywall patch plates (they come as small as 2" x 2" up to 6" x 6"). Apply them and then some drywall compound over them. Probably take 2-3 coats, sanding smooth between them. Then re-paint.
Darius, the bolty things stick out from the wall - can't be covered up with plaster stuff. That's why DH said it would be too much work - he'd have to dig them out and then replaster (he's a tad lazy) I was thinking of something to go behind the phone - 8x11 or so size - cork board??? Need something quick, easy and looks ok.
Nah, Sarv... take a hammer and pound them in!
I just posted a message on the Katrins Forum, hoping it offers some Hope. It's called A Mayonnaise Jar and 2 cups of coffee...
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/544626/
The 2 cups of coffee for me is this thread and all my friends here!
Joanne Fabrics and Minnesota Fabrics have little decals called
Wallies that you can use to cover flaws and screw or nail holes without a lot of effort. There are lots of patterns, flowers, etc so you could pick something to match your decor. I used them to cover screw holes in the closet walls when we rearranged the racks. No effort involved.
If you do the drywall patch as Darius suggested, and you can see a colored plastic circle, try to get the little plastic thingie out of the drywall because it usually sticks out a little bit. You can either pull it out with a needle nose pliers, or push it all the way in. If it was a heavy duty metal anchor, the kind that unfolds inside the wall, you will never get it out, but you might be able to push it in farther.
GAaak now I'm reminded I have two of those holes in the master bath that I should have done something about months ago. Out of sight out of mind. Sigh. I think I'm going to have to make myself a honey do list.
Night Gracie.
LOL Darius and I were posting at the same time. I vote for the hammer, but only if you have very good aim!
Thanks gals - I think I may just get out the hammer myself and go at it. I will have to patch it myself (if I ever marry again, I am gonna check out his home repair skills!
DH is watching the stinkin wrestling, so time for me to scrub the face and turn in
Don't worry about your aim! You've got the plaster out so what's a little extra hole or two ??
TV wrestling is about the most mindless inane waste of time anyone could have dreamed up.
The ancient Greeks are turning over in their collective graves.
Robert... All THREE points above are good!
Poor Greeks having to turn over.
Keeping good thoughts for your successful meeting with the lung guy Darius. Tie a knot!
Tie a knot? I'm not familiar with that phrase...
Sarv,
With the hammer, I agree, but only a little tap to make the anchors go a hair deeper than the wall level. Put some lightweight spackle on it and it's a done deal.
On the job, my son likes to try the method of "put the screw back in the anchor" use a pair of pliers and pull it out. That only works with the plastic (non-butterfly types). If you do it his way, squirt some caulk in the hole, smooth it below the wall level, wait for it to dry and spackle on top of that. Usually this works without getting an air bubble and have to sand and respackle.
:^)))
Hi everyone, you guys are fun lol. My feet are a size 12, talk about big foot ugh. I worked until 6 and then came home and we moved the bedroom furniture around. I don't like it, so I'll have to think about what to do now. Now, I'm watching Mommie Dearest on oh!, love this movie.
Good luck at the new doctor Darius. The only time I ever heard tie a knot is in the saying "when you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on" Daddy always said 'tie a knot' and that's what he meant.
Well, I'm going to go get ready for bed, and maybe rewind and watch the wire hanger scene again, muhahaha. Good night all:)
Rachel
Hi everyone.
Darius, I have my fingers (and toes) crossed --- hope it's a false alarm. Glad things are coming together at your apartment anyway.
M5, nice pic of the Jingle Dancer. I'm posting one that my husband took at last year's Powwow. This year we decided to check out the bull "riding" (not much riding that we could see, more like the would-be riders landing on the ground just in front of the gate.) It was different, for sure. A few of them looked like they got stomped too and a couple were saved from being gored by their safety vests. Definitely Not a great way to make a living!
Busy weekend. We spent most of Sunday at a trade show and both ended up feeling somewhat ill -- I think it was the fast food lunch that did it. Today we were out and about trying to find some parts for my treadle sewing machine. I'm planning to turn a couple of deer hides we bought at the Powwow into a shirt or vest for one of my sisters-in-law for Christmas. Please wish me luck! I'm afraid to cut those hides since I don't know where I could get another if I screw it up. The woman we bought them from told me to buy some felt and sew that first to make sure it comes out the right shape and size, then use that as a pattern. Easy to say!
As usual, I'm not keeping up with the tomatoes which are now coming in thick and fast. I always plant way to many of them and then don't have time to deal with them all before they start to go off. We're back to the hot muggies here again too which makes the thought of canning or sauce making extra appealing. With any luck, I'll get to all that this Wednesday as my husband is still unemployed and will work at my store so I can get some things done here.
Hi Butterqueen. How did you come up with that name, if you don't mind my asking? It makes me think of popcorn for some reason.
Well, work tomorrow. Guess I'd better go take a Benedryl and try to knock myself out for the night.
Hey folks, you have been chatting up a storm. I have spent my entire day searching for the "stem thing" in my 30 cup coffee urn. I took it to the community center, and when I returned home it was missing.Went back searched the kitchen, looked outside as DH had emptied left over coffee, came home got on internet to see if I could find a replacement. DH came in for lunch and suggested that it could have ended up in the garbage. Back to the community center, and lo the garbage had not been collected. Took 3 soggy bags back home, emptied it and looked for it. Get a mental picture of what I looked like going through used paper plates, food, beverages etc left over from Saturday evening, use your nose as well, wheew. Well it wasn't there. Started looking in everything that was carried home. Finally found it in a stack of pans that was waiting to be carried to the attic. So I had a very INTERESTING DAY!! Without this stem, it would have rendered my$100 coffee pot useless or a "new age" flower pot.
|Yeah Darius, new home improvements, since you have not been waiting for them a long time.!!
Meezer, cool cookie jars. May have to invest in some to use as canisters.
Sarv, just call a carpenter. "check out his home repair skills" ROTFL. DH is home repair challenged also. I vote with Robert on the wrestling issue, Romans turning over, ha!ha! I have also heard the phrase "tie a knot" I have become an excellent knot tier in my lifetime. Anyone need lessons?
McCool wish I had some of your maters, mine are all gone.Guess I go to the farmers market this week, then depend on the grocery after that. Can't wait to taste that red cardboard they try to pass as tomatoes!!
Well, I am off to bed, McCool, you say Benedryl works, thanks for that tip, been sleepless many nights.
Nighty Nite
Yep, that's it Darius. Thought everyone had used the "when you get to the end of your rope" saying. Hoping everything goes well.
Hi Butterqueen, you and I will have to stamp our size 12s at the same time - should make the world shake a little!
Glad things on the home front are looking up Darius - could be the light at the end of the tunnel old gal.
Grandpa always used to say when your hanging onto that knot at the end of your rope, just look down - it could be that firm ground is only inches below, then you can start walking again.
Loved the golf balls, but what would life be without those two cups of coffee?
Night Gracie, Night Jim Bob, Sleep tight.
Tie the knot - isn't that when you get married?
Ahh, benedryl does do a good job of making you sleep. I have a pill phobia, so I only take them when I am traveling with others and want to be sure and sleep. Actually, I've had good nights sleep for the past couple of nights. Wonder of wonders.
Sister left last night to spend the night with our folks. After she left, DH said, ' why is she leaving her pillow and makeup bag here- is she coming back?' Yikes, had to call her and she had to drive all the way back. Her DH always picks up after her - she just floats around, but when she comes by herself - she is lost - always leaving things everywhere. Last time she was here, she left her coat!
Last day of our hot weather they say. I am sure all the tomatoes that I was going to can have rotted. I should check on the grapes. I am still looking for a good way to make juice. I have a poor taster so I can never tell if the juice is sweet enough or not. Having a poor taster is not all bad - all food tastes good to me!! However cooking for others is a challenge.
Our truck camper was returned by DS last night. I wasn't home, so I didn't get a chance to hear about the fun/nightmare they had camping. Oh well DH just took our repaired (NOT) boat back to the repair shop - grrr, I see a major bill coming our way...
Yikes, just heard of the 40 patients found in a NO hospital -didn't make it. Oh my goodness - that is sad news.
Time to get up- rise and shine!!
Yes, this hospital news is very upsetting.
I have trouble sleeping due to restless leg syndrome. I used to be up until 3 or 4 am every night, but with my new pills, I can get to sleep by 1 or 1:30. DH had to get up at 5:30 this morning so he let all of the dogs out, and then back into the bedroom. You know how dogs are, 3 minutes or 3 days, makes no difference, they miss you if you are out of their sight. So, that's how I wake up every morning, with 5 dogs "attacking" me with kisses.
Well, I better get to work, have a great day everyone. Rachel
Oh I'm up all right, but it's too early for shining and I'm a quart low on coffee......but filling up fast!
I've done the too many 'maters thing, and cheated by just dropping them in boiling water enough to loosen the skins and freezing them whole. Sure, it takes up a lot of room in the freezer, but it beats letting them rot.
I throw lots of stuff in the freezer. Last year I chopped and froze 10# of vidalias, just because I like them so much. Recently, I made potato salad and found I was completely out of onions. So, I thought, what happens if I put the diced frozen ones in? At worst, they will just be soggy, at best, I'll have onion "essence" in it.....so I did. Actually it worked quite well, and they were even a teeny bit crunchy! LOL Any normal person would have checked for all the ingredients BEFORE deciding to make something.....but then, I'm sort of coasting on the bent side of normal.........
McCool, those old treadle machine will sew through just about anything won't they? I learned to sew on one, but never owned one myself. My first sewing machine was a Kenmore in the early 60s and it was a portable. Lasted for years and years. Finally wore out in '95, and I couldn't replace the belt. They sent me a neoprene one that just slipped and slid, and wouldn't grab the wheel and turn it. By that time, I was no longer sewing little girl's dresses and patching jeans so I didn't miss it.
LOL I used that wire coathanger scene to convince my kids what a good mother I was!! Or I'd threaten them...."Want me to go get a coat hanger????"
Yes, Sarv, time to get showered and dressed so you can make it to the DENTIST on time! (nag nag nag)
Morning GOBS, WOW a lot of chatting over the weekend. I work one day a week, Saturday. I have a small (no pun intended) miniature shop at our local farm and craft market. By the time I get home Sat. night through church on Sunday and try to do some book work on Monday I wonder where did my weekend go!!
Sarv, let us know how things go. We are rooting! for you, nothing like tooth pain to change your outlook on life. When I used to can I would fill a jar half full of grapes add about a quarter of a cup of sugar and then fill with boiling water, process till a good boil and then put them away for a few months. We would then just strain the juice and the kids and DH loved it.
Darius, listen well to this new doc and know that I am praying that things look up for you.
M5, it is amazing what we can freeze and then bring back to life. My dad grows garlic and some of it looks like golf balls and I have learned to just grate off what I need and throw it in the freezer till I need it again and just keep grating away.
Dcat, I cannot imagine going through everything like you did looking for that part. I probably wouldn't even be walking yet after the day you put in. Loved the sound of it, we love fish and used to 'fry' everything we could with it done in a beer batter. Yum Yum
Hello Butterqueen glad to see others coming out.
Okus, I'm a 9.5 here and have never figured out how the skinny ankles attached manage to hold up the rest of me!!!
Those I missed, I love your responses, hints and just being allowed to be a part of your lives. Some leftover spanish rice for lunch, just grab a bowl and heat it up, but be ready to cool your mouth down!
Joy
Dcat, I can sympathize with the garbage sifting....when I was taken to the hospital with my "cardiac event" my daughter took my jewelry back to my house, wrapped in brown paper toweling that she keeps handy in her big purse for dog drool (don't ask) and left them on the kitchen table. By the time I got home, they had disappeared. My first thought was someone thought it was just a wad of paper and tossed them. So, I spent several hours sifting our garbage, which was still all in the same trash bag as when I left, picking through some now decaying egg shells, coffee grounds, fast food leftovers, etc. Went through it three days in a row, as it gradually got worse and worse, because I was sure I would find my rings and bracelets. Nothing. Gone. I found out that the only other person in the house while I was gone was one of DH's alky brothers, and then I suspected, he saw them and in boozy delusion of hocking them, took them. He's always been a thief. Then, when he realized that the pawn shops would require ID,he just threw them away. Insurance was limited to $1000, after our $500 deductible, which was not even close to the value.
Two of the rings had been custom designed, and could not be replaced. Still makes me sick to think of them.
Brighter news!! Woohoo, It's RAINING!!! And I went out to take this photo. Sarv had asked in session 29 what the big vine was in front of the house, and I couldn't answer accurately because it had no flowers at all. Well, it finally has some but they are hiding under the arch!! When they are fully open they are saucer sized! So I guess it's a moonflower! oh lovely lovely rain....more, please...........all day if possible!!! Julie, Marcie, and Sarv, I hope it's coming to you too!! Doing the happy dance!!!
Edited so that you wouldn't think my daughter wrapped the house in brown paper toweling.

Send the rain - got the sprinklers blasting! Moon flowers- am not sure our summers are long enough for those things to blossom . May try some next year.
Going thru garbage - yuck. When I was teaching, the dreaded thing was 'I can't find my retainer - I had it at lunch time!' Know how many bags of trash I went thru - PU. But we recovered most of them. I thought we should call the parents and have them come up and search, but principal thought elsewise. But I never saw him pawing thru the trash!! Talking about retainers- my oldest kept throwing his on the floor while sleeping- I crunched on it 2x - and replaced it The third time I told him it was his problem.
Took a xanax and a half in preparation for the dental stuff. I think I may need another half, but then I don't trust myself to navigate to the office! LOL I think I will take one just before I go inside. They take about half an hour to kick in, so it may help. Can you tell I am a major WUSSSS!! How in the world did I ever have two kids!!
On a more pleasant note, my weight has taken a small dive down. Still weigh more than I want or that is healthy, but I love seeing the scales going backward instead of up!! And my sore arm is almost history. But I'm having a hot flash as I type - always something isn't it!
Time to go move the sprinklers - again.
Thanks for the concern and good wishes, GOB's. Talked to my doc's nurse this morning. My doctor wants a pulmonologist to do a biopsy on a lymph node on my lung, and then we'll take it from there. Don't know yet if it can be a needle biopsy, or require endoscopy. She also wants an ultrasound on a cyst on my liver.
I think I need that knot!
WoW! So many replies and not enough time to comment on all that I've read Been here an hour and a half and have to get my arse outside to start cutting my coleus plants for trades. But more likely I'm doing just to have a 'starting place for unpotting all those things I planted a couple months back. LOL
It's so good to see our new peeps popping in and taking part in the thread! Please don't be offended or think I'm not reading your posts if I don't make a comment directly to you. Things will calm down a bit in a few weeks and I'll be more able to 'converse' then.
:-) (At least I HOPE it will be that way...who knows! LOL)
OK...I'm off to start the soakers in the perennial beds and get a couple of trades ready to send. Speaking of which...Joy, I got your SASE yesterday and before I do anything else, I'll get those seeds in a 'baggie' for you. (Don't worry...it's NOT a *sandwich* bag. hehehe)
See y'all later!
~julie~
Darius...I meant to say "BEST of luck" with your specialist. I've got my fingers crossed that everything checks out 'OK'.
~julie~
BACK FROM THE DENTIST!!! Now you won't believe this - he couldn't find a thing wrong!! Can you believe it. I am sure glad I didn't call him back from his vacation!! Is sending me to a 'root canal screening' thing, but after I get a treatment of an antibiotic. He said I would know in three days if it was just a sinus thing. I can't believe this = I have had this pain for 11 days!! Been down the root canal thing, so I surely hope it's NOT that!
I am starved now, so am gonna make a huge plate of chips and cheese and settle back witha good book.
Been cloudy and they are saying severe storms tonight. I'll take rain in any form!
Darius, I have a big cyst on my liver - doc took a pic of it when I had my gallbladder out. Said it was nothing to worry about, but it was a mean looking sucker. Sometimes I can even feel it (size of a golf ball she said) Hope all is well with you..
Hi all,
Sarv = believe it or not - I had the same kind of thing happen when I was a teenager - turned out to be a REALLY bad sinus infection......they can make you feel like your teeth are falling out! Good luck.
ViolaAnn - I sing in a community chorus - or did - second soprano - but I'm quitting for a while. I do stained glass, mosaics and am learning to make glass beads(lampwork) - and I don't get enough time to do that with work and bing the chorus librarian. I'd like to build a portfolio of my glass work in hopes one day that I can stop working in the corporate world and devote myself to my art. Probably a pipe dream - but it's mine!
Darius - dang nab it! It's always something......[deleted]You know I'll be thinking of you....and you call me if you need anything......
Our dog visitor - Penny - is doing great. The cats are even ignoring her now. She's such a sweetie and just wants love and attention, which she's getting lots of. Unfortunately her owner isn't doing so well. She's the elderly mother of DG member AndiDandi's(Andrea) uncle and she had a stroke when they got here from evacuating New Orleans. She's now not eating well - and they're probably going to have to put her in a nursing facility here soon. These poor people. Andrea's aunt said she wonders what else can happen. So say a prayer for these people too. I'm hoping to have them out for dinner one night soon.
Well - no other news for now....
Marcia
HI to all..busy in here..hugs to all dealing with health issues, my appt books now filled with appts for me , instead of my patients..ACK.
Still dry here, they said maybe a few scattered showers this PM-sun out here..think they are scattering somewhere else. The next chance is for next week..will go out and move the hose again.
Tomatos, used to dip, skin and freeze, recently heard you could just wash and freeze-dip and skin when you need them. May pick up some at Farmers Market-mine just pitiful this year.
Hope that we get the cool down, have plants waiting to be planted.they aren't looking so well. I did get my seedlings of My daylily crosses planted (only a few months late), probably won't get blooms for a couple of years, but at least Got them planted..progress for me. Collecting seeds from this years seedpod crop..and I even kept a few notes :)
Have a good day all, and will catch up later.
TIP FOR THE DAY!!
Do not attempt to catch up on your DG posts while you are boiling macaroni for a chicken salad.
Sigh.
Time for take out = me thinks!! DH is at the stove while I am at the computer = works for me!!
Chicken salad does sound good tho - DH is making hamburg helper - not my favorite, but I'll take it along with some fresh tomatoes...
Okay, here's the deal. I go to Asheville September 27 for an appt. with a lung specialist, taking the CT Scan films with me. Then after viewing the films, he will tell me if he thinks it needs a biopsy. Crossing my fingers he doesn't think it's a problem!
I go tomorrow morning for a sonogram on the cyst on my liver, should have the results in a few days.
Hoping everything is ok with you, Darius, thinking of you!
Meezer, what happened to your macaroni? not al dente?
Maria
