Regular Gas per gallon PART II

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

$2.83 at the local Arco today.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

This is what happens to our little island every time the news media mentions a gas increase.

Keep in mind that we have a 60% unemployment rate - hence containers.

Note the police trying to keep everything in order. We only have 3 gas stations on the island but only 2 are open at a time. 6:30 am to 6 pm.

Knot, that's unbelieveable!

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

Not here. We get everything by ferry so gas is iffy-iffy. We run out at least once a month but if it lasts longer than a few days the National Guard will bring it in.

Here is another shot from a different angle.

I am not kidding when I show you these and tell you this. People have slept in their cars overnight for gas. Then they may only buy $2 worth.

Rule of thumb (in our house) is if you get to 3/4 of a tank you fill up.

Our island has only 4 square miles of livable/public land. The rest is Fish and Wildlife. So to us a tank will last in our Suzuki Vitari about a month. We also have a truck which we rarely use (for plant hauling) which is always kept full and we have 20 gallons spare for our generator for power outages.

So we do ok.

PS... It does not hurt to have a neighbor run one of the gas stations :o))

Hubby has never siphoned gas but he have to learn how to some day :)

Jeez, and we think we have it bad!!

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh wow.. two dollars worth wouldn't get me very far here in California. It would be nice in a way if our area was 4 square miles, but I guess there are drawbacks to that too.

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

There is.

The #1 is groceries. Again we depend on ferries and I have no had grits in over a month.

I am thinking of going to Trades and trading plants for grits.

Now that is bad......

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

Hey, I'll send you all the grits you want!! Why don't you Dmail me your address?

Vieques, PR(Zone 11)

I have fallen in Love....

Yay! Gas just went down for us four cents, to $2.759. This is at the cheapest Chevron in town.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Hess in Fayetteville, NC has been a consistant $2.77.9 for 2 weeks. Other brands have gone up 10+ cents, but not Hess.
Headed back to Jax tomorrow.

Our gas stations are closed this morning.

No panic yet (yeah right) but if they do not open by late morning....Well .. lets just say I am glad I am not in the line.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

ours is at 3.19 this morning. now why are the gas prices going back up?? was 2.49 the other day

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Gouging, Price Fixing, All those other things the oil barrons can do.
Any other business operated that way they would be thrown in jail!
Gas was $2.59 t0 $2.69 Tuesday. Who knows today.

Gas today in Southern Cal according to the News this afternoon..

3.23 per gallon...

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

I paid $2.89 today here in Fayetteville and the state house is planning to up our gas taxes by July.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Glad to see this bumped up. Gas averages around $3-$3.20 here in Disneyland.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Aren't you glad to see Exxon's outgoing CEO got his well deserved separation bonus of $400 million?

Mesilla Park, NM

In the first thread on Feb 27, 2004, we started at 2.07 reg... what a jump.. two years later at 3.23 for reg.. here in CA.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

3.05 here

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Cal & TX both produce oil, right?
We only pay $2.80.9 here.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

293.9 here, right in the middle of oil fields...

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

There was another oil exec that rec'd his $78 million dollar bonus. I am so glad for him, don't you know?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

only 78! well, that's not fair compared to 400!!!

like they say, people in the oil and gas business CAN afford $4.00 a gallon better than they could $1.00

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

This whole thing makes me so mad that I am going to stay off this thread before I get into trouble.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Don't forget to dog on the other people making the largest profit per gallon!!! It's the government! I mean, honestly, how much in TAX city, state, federal do we have to pay? Why isn't there a cap per dollar already on it? And how come they don't POST the tax breakdown on the receipt like sales tax? That's right! Because if you saw it you'd be mad!!!! A man in Ohio owns a gas station and called a radio station to respond to this, said it is ILLEGAL in Ohio to post the tax on the receipt. Grrrr.....things will change though of that I am sure. Just riding it out to see how it all reforms.

Lily,

Those cartoons rock. So true!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Minnesota tax is by the gallon, I think it is 26¢.
Gas is still cheaper for me than it was 40 years ago when it was 25¢ & I was making $1 per hour.

Oh Country, NICE perspective!!!! My DH seems to think it is just following the natural progression of inflation too and that it will stablize eventually. I think our tax on it is higher in TX, can't be sure though, it's not on the receipt. LOL.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Here's a list of fuel tax by state.
http://www.floridastategasprices.com/tax_info.aspx

Florida (where I am temnporarily) is more than twice GA but only 2/3 of NC where I used to live.

Darius,

Thanks for adding the link~!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Well i just drove up to Greensboro and Charlotte, NC and only 2 places did I see $2.759 in Ga. Most Places $2.689 in NC.
In other words the folks in Ga aren't as thrifty as they used to be. Best Price on 95 in Ga exit 1 and exit 90 or 92 and 102

There is supposed to be some boycott of Exxon somewhere going on and the people said they will boycott them until (according to the news report) gas gets down to $1.30 a gallon. They'd better get some bicycles if they are waiting that long.

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

I got an email about that Exxon-Mobil boycott tonight. I will copy and send it to you via dmail if you are interested. We can't stop buying gas altogether, but we can maybe buy it differently. I paid $2.89 yesterday in Fayetteville and that was at the cheap station, but I think that's about what it is all over town.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Sure gardengram. Thanks.

I know I have tried to limit my driving in town. But it doesn't seem to have phased too many, people are still crowding into stores for shopping right? Funny passing by the gas stations many look like ghost towns and yet everyone is still driving. I saw a book at the store by some financial guy who predicted several losses in the past accurately. His book is based on the idea that oil will get up to $200 a barrel. Our Walmart had gas the other day for $2.66. Sam's Club hasn't been able to offer members any more of a discount than all the other places.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i paid 263.9 in AMarillo tonight, oops, i am last night heehee...

Monroe, NY(Zone 6b)

boycotting EXXON_MOBIL seems like a GREAT idea.
i've gotten an email as well and it does make alot of "cents."
i'm paying 3.09/gal. and that's not funny.
especially when i'm using my car from job to job putting on a couple hundred miles a day (and i know some folks have to travel even more).
seems like i'm working just to pay for gas!
