Sylvia, you do have a wonderful list of plants it is that with me doing mainly natives I don't have room for a lot of other things.
But I would love to have two of your Hostas to put in pots if you still have them, it would be nice if they are both the same type, but not necessary, Thank you.
Josephine.
DALLAS PLANT SWAP!
I want to let the Everyone know that in case it is raining on Sunday, please don't give up, the pavillion at Veterans Park is large and it has a roof, so we should be O.K.
Josephine.
I'm still planning to be there, but keeping a watchful eye on Rita. Even as far inland as I am, we may be impacted by destructive winds and rain, power outages. We had a category 3 hurricane here in '83, lost power for a couple of days, and Rita is now a cat 4. Depends on where she falls, that will tell the story. We should know a lot more by this evening. The stores are out of bottled water, canned meat, etc.
What do you want to do if Rita gets here and we have a mess of wind and rain on our hands? Not that we dont need the rain up here! Just dont want anyone driving around if we dont have to in soem bad weather. Would a Sat night sawp maybe at one of our homes be a better option if it gets here (the park being my first vote!) Or even a Fri night somewhere instead. I really would lvoe to meet everyone but we need to think about keeping us all safe.
Mitch
I think we need to see how things are on Saturday, and then decide.
If it is not raining hard, the pavillion should be O.K. and if not, we could come to my house which is not far from the park, put the plants in the garage and eat inside, I don't know what else to do at this time, but you guys think abou it, and let us know what you think.
Josephine.
Josephine that sounds like a great idea to me - I thought of your place but I did not want to speak up for you!
Side note just read that Trois is staying put with his son and grandkids, he says it is to backed up to leave. Pray for them - they are going to need it.
Yes, this is looking pretty serious folks. My son Adam is coming up to sit this out with me. There are very real chances we'll see anywhere from 75 - 100 mph winds here, we can almost count on losing power and hope that will be the worst. Even when the storm gets up to you guys, it will be packing a wallop. I wish trois had left yesterday, I'm really worried about them.
Oh Boy! Whatever :(
Sylvia!! Happy birthday girl! Did you see that we've shipped half of Houston up there to celebrate with you? :-)
I don't know. This looks pretty bad and who knows what we'll get up here. I'm ok with postponing it. If everyone is still planning on going and it's not too bad, I'll try to come, plants or none. I don't pot up things until last minute, since the time I did a lot and brought a lot of it back home.
I think we will postphone until Oct 2nd if everyone is ok with that? Same bat place, same bat time, diffrent bat date. If everyone is ok with that?
I'm more than okay with that!
Everyone stay safe.
I am fine with that Mitch!
Maggie please stay safe...so glad your son is coming to be with you....where is he coming from? My birthday was a blast...the cats and I had steak! lol
Sylvia
Adam and his girlfriend are coming from The Heights in Houston, its near downtown almost the intersection of I-45 & I-10. Randy (rjuddharrison) is just a few blocks away.
Steak! Yum!
Thank you all for your understanding, we will see you there Sunday October 2nd.
Your friend, Josephine.
I just heard.... TROIS is leaving at noon today, he WILL be getting out!
Hurray!
Glad to hear of the new date. Hope to see you all there. Ted
The new date sounds good to me. Maybe it will even be cooler that day!
Ahhh!! Dreams of cooler days!!!
It may be time to resurrect that thread of the perfect garden...
Happy Fall everyone - if it is not cool outside rest in the fact it is now Fall!
Ted! I am so excited that you will be able to make it. It will be great to see you again.
Which plants do you want me to reserve for you?
Josephine.
Need something hardy. LOL
Am half way through Terracing a corner of my yard (20 X 50 ft) and it is solid clay, full sun. Will amend it later.
O.K. Ted I will see what I can do.
Josephine.
Can I come now?? :-) Actually I need to check with hubby. I doubt I'd be bringing much plants if any, but would love to see everyone. Still have not moved, so nothing can come home with me.
Frostweed, you might post a message with the new date in the thread title, or have Dave or Terry change the title of this one with maybe add " - NEW DATE - Oct 2nd!" Then maybe people who could not make this weekend, can come next.
Staci!, I am so glad you might be able to come. I did post a new thread with the new date, but I cannot edit the first post on this one.
We will ask Mitch to do it.
Josephine.
Oops, I should have looked at the top again. I forgot Mitch had started this thread.
I will definitely try!
Sylvia, I don't know if you got my message about the Hostas, please be sure to save me some, maybe 2 of them, I really would like to try them.
Josephine.
Will bring some CD containers and have a lot of plastic bottles to put seeds in I can bring.
Have lots of Datura seeds.
Ted, I would LOVE some of those Cannas! I have a sunny spot that could use some orange!
Mel
Those are pretty. I'll take one, or two. You know how Cannas are, you don't need a lot! I've got lots of red that get over 6 ft and some smaller yellow ones.
I would love one to if you have an extra... Mitch
Have a 25 foot row of them in the garden. Have lots of other colors from the canna co op this year, so will have some for next year.
That must look stunning in full bloom. . . thats the way to frame summer.
Cannas???
I have cannas, I can bring cannas!
I have:
tall soft orange with red/purple bloomstalks
tall soft orange with reg'lar green bloomstalks
lemon yellow Conestoga cannas
The orange ones are the "species" type flowers, more pointy than the more voluptuous hybrids.
(They're supposed to be more attractive to hummingbirds.)
& I have a decent-sized rootbound pot of green liriope, needs to be divided & planted.
and I have pots, Mitch. Honey, I have pots...
I got them to grow things from seed, only to discover that I don't apply myself to growing things from seed.
So I knock over the stack of small pots every time I get close to the water faucet where they're piled up....
Texasgreen - got the bigger pots would love more little ones . .. . would you like a few big ones? Would anyone want the gallon size?
oh and a few of those cannas are for me right? :-) The liriope you gave me before is going nuts around the edge of the pond - should look really good in the Spring! Thanks - Mitch
Josephine I didnt see where you wanted Hosta...for sure I will bring you some. My feelins were hurt, I thought nobody wanted anything I had ...but Mitch of course.:)
Lawdy lawd! I dont know what I am going to do...I busted one thumb in the door at the dentist this afternoon. Tonight I broke a pitcher making ice tea and cut the other. I dont think I am going to be able to pot up anything else.:( ...this right thumb is tore to pieces. :) Is this what getting old is all about? I need to slow down...
just me ...typing with two fingers. lol
Sylvia
Sylvia, don't be hurt. I'd like some cornflower. :) Others might be like me and prefer to wait until the swap to trade. I know it's convenient sometimes, so you know if you need to dig things up, but it kind of takes the fun out of it for me when it's already done ahead of time. Just me tho, and I'm last minute in preparing. I potted up a whole bunch of stuff once and ended up taking too much back home, so that kind of burned me on doing too much in advance.
I will try and get some things together in the next few days and know what I've got. It never seems like much, or anything anyone would want tho. I wish I was as organized as Josephine!
Sylvia, you take care of yourself! (By the way, did you ever see your happy birthday thread? http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/546392/ )
Sylvia, I am so sorry you got hurt, Goodness Gracious, both thumbs, bless your heart, it must be hard getting things done. I hope it is better soon.
Josephine.
