Susanne, I've always liked your name, and never thought you were a guy!

BTW, I have a nephew who just finished his 2nd yr at Tech. Have you finished yet? (Didn't I read once that you're due to graduate? May have been some time ago...)

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, 27 is right Trois. You must be thinking of my daughter when thinking 11. ;-) Actually the day you saw her - the Sunday of the roundup - is when she turned 11. One of these days I will actually look like a mother - when I am about 50 ...maybe. I have heard about how young I look more times than I care to think about. Only my DH has thought I was older. I met my DH when I was 19 and he thought I had to be at least 22 since I was living on my own with a 3 year old. That was a first.

Susanne, I also enjoy the company of people older than me - at least with the ones that can look past my young age and my even younger looking face. I married someone 12 years older and my closest friend is 15 years older than me. Having a daughter so young did make me grow up quickly though.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I looked young for a long time myself. I think I was 32 when no one wanted to see ID. Your pleasant attitude will serve you well.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I love your name it tells of your 2 passions. I don't think a guy would put the 2 together.

ilovejesus99 could go either way, But I don't care just feed my plant addiction and you can think I am a guy.

I really do like it. :o)

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Aw thanks! Well I'm glad that I was never having an inadvertent gender crisis here on daves.

Mary I just finished my 4th year...should have graduated ...but I transferred schools and changed my major after my sophomore year, so I have one more semester of classes, then student teaching in the spring. I dont know all that many people getting out in 4 years anymore, which makes me feel better!
Suzi you can't tell a future art teacher you have no skill!! I believe its in everyone, somewhere :)

trois, you've always seemed very young to me too- full of energy and great stories! I love a unique name like that- definitely never heard it before. And Sandy I always knew you were a female too- and I agree, you share and feed my addiction...doesn't matter which you think I am!

Zingy is short for "Zingara". Zingara is gypsy in Italian. I have always dressed gypsyish and had avant-garde ways so my dad dubbed me Zingara. At this point in my life my clothes are more "Mama Cass" than "Stevie Nicks" tho' --- heheheh!!

I acutally wanted to use "Spidey" short for "Spiderlady", but it was taken. My siblings gave me that name when I was a teen -- they said I did not have dates -- I had victims. LOL

But --- the "sandpaper of time" has mellowed my ways.... as it does everything else!!

Hi there future art teacher! I said I can't draw, not that I do not have skills and/or abilities. I've been told that I am very creative and imaginative in at least 2 areas, creating plastic canvas projects and in photography. Neither of which I have done lately, though. Have to find the digital!! Got blooms and nothing to record on!!

Best of luck w/your student teaching in the spring!! As for taking more than 4 yrs, I took forever to get mine! Finished A/AS in Bus Mgmt in TX in 89. Finished w/BS in 03. Hmmm don't think I get the speed demon award. Going back to work on MBA this fall (I hope!) Should get that in 08. Not bad consid I grad in 74, LOL!

Marie, Loved that description, about dates being victims, LOL!

Good morning,
My DG name is Eglantyne which was my mothers favorit David Austin's rose bevor she passed away.

It is a wonderful ,rather exquisite rose in soft pink with a great Old Garden Rose scent.

Can't wait for it to bloom again ,however it looks like it is going to be a while this year.We had the worst year in over 10 years with rain and no sunshine.
27 days of rain out of 30 and no letting up,
Brigitte

Granbury, TX(Zone 7b)

Like Eglantyne, my DG name is a reminder of a dear departed parent. My father always called me Sugarfoot. He had just died when I found Dave's and was very much on my mind. He was a wonderful vegetable gardener and could never understand why I spent so much time growing things that you couldn't eat. :-) I spent most of my adult life in the midwest and he would only leave Texas to visit in February and October - for my kids birthdays, but also because it didn't interfere with his gardening. It makes me sad that I finally made it back to Texas and he's gone, but I often feel him looking over my shoulder.

Crossville, TN(Zone 6b)

Sugarfoot, very precious
You are making me weepy thinking of my Dad. Thanks for the memories. He never came to visit as long as he had a garden. Linda †

What a great thread! I brought work home tonight, and got sick of working on it, so I popped on here for a "short" break. That was an hour ago.

I'm very new to DG, but I'v been gardening for years.

When I was little my great grandmother was alive and kicking, and she lived where she always had, in Keller Texas. She planted a rose bush in her back yard for each kid, grand kid, and great grandkid over the years. When she passed away, my grandmother, her daughter in law, dug up all the roses because the house was going to be sold, and when I had my daugher, she gave me mine and a new one for my new baby. My rose from when I was born has been in 7 states, and my daughter's has stayed here in Illinois, but it's on it's 3rd garden. I was 22 when I had my daughter, and knew nothing about gardening. Keeping those roses alive taught me a lot of valuable lessons (both in gardening and in life).

S is for Stacy, my first name,.and Stateham is for my great grandmother, Georgia Stateham

Stacy,

What a wonderful story of the roses. Welcome to DG.....it's a wonderful place and very addictive. I think the clocks speed up when I'm on here....lol

Stacy - How sweet of your DGGM!!! What a lovely idea! I bought some clearance roses after I got my place in 02. The ones w/o names, we named and planted up the sidewalk! One for each of us, and for PawPaw and U. Ronald, in memory of my brother that died in 94, and for my dad, who has since passed away.

Sugarfoot - my dad always had a garden when I was young. That is how we ate and made it through the winter on his meager earnings. He spent the last 25 yrs of his life in bed, crippled up with Rheumatoid Arthritis. He may have been poor, but he was rich in spirit! I'd be grouchy if I had to rely on others, but he never was!

Edited to add ~ Welcome everyone to Dave's! It's nice to meet some more of the nice people that I will be gardening online with! ~ Suzi :)

That's cool! She tried to somewhat match the rose to the kid - mine is an Anastasia tea, since Stacy is sometimes used as a deteritive name. - I'm just named Stacy - born into a nice souther Irish family, not Russian royalty

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL, Stacy, you don't have to be born russian royalty to be named Anastasia. Not a single bit of russian in my ancestry, but my mother loved the story of Nicholas and Alexandra so that's the name I got. And I do go by Staci - always have. I will have to check out the Anastasia tea rose (I already have a daylily 'Anastasia' on my want list). I would love to see a picture of your's. It must be such a treasure to you.

Welcome to DG!

love the name..If DH and I could have children that's on my top 10 list for a little girl...Along with Isabella and Sebastian for a little boy. My family always picks on me that I'll give a baby the worse name.

Saint

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL I have always loved the name Sebastian for a boy. I also like Oliver for some reason. Both odd names and my husband likes names like Michael, Ryan, Greg. If I ever had another girl I wanted to name her Analiese and pass down the Ana part of my name. Just one more reason to never have children together - it would be a fight naming.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol...at one stage in my life I wanted to name a little girl Philadelphia (don't ask me I was in HS and braindead) and my Mom said that was fine as long as she could call her Cream Cheese.

New Port Richey, FL(Zone 9a)

ROF Araness - Cream Cheese!!

If my last child was a girl I was going to name it Carmella after my GGM. He was a boy and he ended up Bruce after his dad. He now has children of his own - Krista, Bruce III and Andrianna.

My neice's name is Zelia -- I always thought that was an unusal name.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

That's pretty cool...but I would so mess up and not say it right.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

my ex always wanted a boy and wanted to name him Richard Zacharia, but call him Zeke. I figure you name the child what you want to call the child. Fortunately he only had girls! ~ Suzi :)

This has been a lot of fun reading about all the names. As many have said, I've wondered myself about the meanings, of the not so obvious. Well, my name PiggyPoo came about with me always using the weekends, as what would get me through the grind of a work week. I work 4 -10's, and have Fri, Sat and Sun off. I'd spend my weekends getting my yard landscaped, and also baking and cooking up a blue streak. Everyone thought I was crazy, as if I was working myself to death, and not "relaxing". And I'd always respond with "Are you kidding? I'm happier than a pig in poo!" Then, I started calling Thursday's PPE (Pig Poo Eve), saying TGIPPE!!! So, I'm PiggyPoo aka Lorri.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

Lorri,
That was CUTE!!! ~ Suzi :)

Welcome Lorri. I had seen you post elsewhere, and was just dying to know where your name came from, I'm so glad you posted!
