Explain your user name

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

I breed raise and show Rabbits (BUNnieS) and Cavys across the United States.

When I first signed on I was TexasBuns. It was a normal name to me, I live in Texas and raise Rabbits, since then it has come to my attention that Lots have dirty minds, lol and no, my buns are Not as Big as Texas but if I continue to sit here for hours like I have been they might get that way. Recently I just shortened my name to Buns, so think Rabbits.

And yes, Rabbit poop du jour is absolutely wonderful ferterlizer for plants. It doesn't burn, you can plant directly in it.

If you are wondering what a cavy is it is a Guinea Pig and yes, we do have Cavy shows and Rabbit shows just like they have Dog and Cat and Horse and Cattle Shows.

Here is a picture of my Best of Breed White Crested Cavy at the National Show in Kansas. ~ Beams with pride ~

I guess if I was a pastry chef, "stickybuns" wouldn't pass muster either. :)
A hairstylist specializing in up-styles couldn't use "hairybuns"
I think I've heard my DW call me "thunderbuns" under her breath once or twice... but it runs in the family. Doesn't it milehighgin?

*G* just picture all these little bunnies with collars and leeds on hopping around the ring and the handlers crawling beside them...

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

And, quickly with their buns in the air. LOL

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

So when is the next show? I am close enough to Houston to go probably. I might get some good pictures.

trois

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Yep in those suits and comfy shoes...*G* would take forever. Can you see the judge sayin "take him down and back" to each and every bunny?

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

I thought you were taking a nap.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

Me or Trois? I can not tell a lie..yep I was nappin. The baby and I have our down time every afternoon and she has a hissy if she doesn't get a nap. I think a child would have been less trouble but I love her.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I didn't want to, but I had to go to the store.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Mine makes me go sometimes, too! Thats the way they are.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Yep. She stayed home.

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol...ohh wife bashing are we? *G* My DH (who cleans the kitchen after I cook)just told me he hoped my next husband was as good as he was.

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

There is talk of a next husband?

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol..kinda what I said. I asked him was he going someplace and he said he was talking about the husband I get when he dies. LOL I don't know if he's just wishing for death or...

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Like the rest of us he knows a good thing when he's got it!

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

lol...oh you've been married I can tell. *G*

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Only once, too!

Here is a photo of the Best in Show judging at our Cavy Nationals in Indiana in 2004. These are the Long hairs. I had one up there competing for Best in Show but not in the long hairs.

And from the North window, if you look closely they are triple stacked and have rabbits and or cavies in each cage. Each rabbit has an ear tattoo (cavy has an ear tag) and the cages are numbered.

Those are judging coops in the center in the U shape. The coops have doors on each side of the table. The rabbits are placed in the coop from the outside door and the judge opens the door on the inside and takes the rabbit/cavy out to judge it so there are no leashes except for the kids and their pets on the floor. It is a family hobby and we really have lots of fun. They are expecting 24-26,000 animals in Indiana next year. That's a lot of bunnies/cavys in one building.

So now maybe you understand my name, Buns a little better. It really is for bunnies.

You know, a sticky bun does sound good right now, but you can keep the hairybuns.
Had a party at the house long ago and made a name for the kids to play on AOL during the party.
Well PartyBuns turned out to be a bad idea, lol, especially for children. Think they grew up really fast.

uhh, no dear, that won't fly. :)

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

I had invisioned something entirely different!

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

LOL...yep have to watch those chat names...

Such pretty little bunnies, one of my next door neighbors several years ago had one and my "baby" (the puppy) loved Woody. She thought he was just the neatest thing and could never understand why he really didn't like her to lick all over him.

Hi! This is a fun thread - lots of oldtimers and newfolks and inbetweens.

My name's Doss because it's what my aunt - who is only 4 years older than I am - calls me.

My mind is like a sieve and so I use Doss as a user name almost everywhere - now you have my secret. I have to admit not on paypal, or ebay etc. Do you don't have to try it. :-) Easy to type, easy to remember, and comfortable. That way, no one has to remember a second name. Great huh?

And ilovejesus - on those days when you lose it, I think that there was a guy who lost it one time and threw the moneylenders out of the temple. I agree that a little forgiveness is in order. We should try our best, but we were made human. Ilove anybody is a great way to start the day.

Thanks buns for sharing the show and the best in show cavy. It was news to me. I'm wondering here, mercenary that I am, just what does a best in show cavy go for?

We had one once and it got down the heating vent. I thought that we would never get it back without cooking it, but it was a tough little devil. We just had to wear it down enough so it would stop skittering just out of reach. Took hours. I'll tell you, DH is a saint and my daughter was so sad. All was well at the end. Except of course for continually getting a kid to clean a cavy cage. lol

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks Doss,

Never fails just when I need to hear something positive I do.
I really needed a kind word right now and here you come.

Thank you,

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

You're welcome Sandy, we all need it and deserve it. But I think that you already know that. :-). It's just hard to remember for ourselves sometimes. Glad that I could be of service.

It's been so fun reading all of your posts. I am always interested to hear how screen names are picked.

I'm not really new here at Dave's, but I don't post very much. It's that time thing...I just don't have a whole lot of it. I do alot of reading, learning, and laughing though. This is a wonderful group of people and forums.

My screen name, mamabirrd, was given to me by my husband and feathered children. I have 4 birds that are always calling for me. They will say to DH, "Where's Mamabirrrrrrrrd?" Their names are Lilly (Budgie), Leonard (Cockatiel), Leroy Brown (African Grey), and Sebastian (Greenwing Macaw) and they are the light of my life.

My yard is a certified national wildlife habitat and I attract many birds and encourage them to take up residence here.

Yup, i'm pretty much bird-crazy.

I was born in '72, so that makes me 33. Yikes! I'm gettin' old.

Mammabird,
Age is all a matter of perspective. I'm 49 now and I figure "older" means at least 20 years more than me; "younger" means at least 20 years less than me. The middle ground where I am is "just right"! ~ Suzi :)

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Since I don't know anyone 20 years older than me, I look on every one else as youngsters.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

But trois, there are lots of people who think 20 years older than you, so I think you're pretty young!

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks, Maggie. I do know a lot of those people.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

That's right Maggiemoo!! I am a lot younger myself, mentally, that is!! Kids keep me young! LOL A friend I graduated with is TONS older, just by the way she thinks! Heck, you are prob younger than she is too! ~ Suzi :)

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

Maggiemoo is really younger than most. Sweezel (Staci) looks the youngest at about 11. She claims she is 27 I think.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

LOL - until last yr had my almost 8 y/o convinced I was 27... ha ha Age doesn't really matter to me. You know what they say, "age is mind over matter - if you don't mind, it don't matter!" But, don't ask my wt, until I lose 50 pounds, and I'm not trying, cuz that don't really matter either...ha ha. ~ Suzi :)

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

True.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Trois, that's nice of you to say. I think it's just that I always act like a six yr old!

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

I have decided that I hate my dg name, but don't want to make dave change it :) its pretty obvious and uncreative too- art, i'm an artist, and garden duuh. People think that art is a name, and that I'm a male. Which I'm not! I'm a female, one of the younger ones here, while you're talking about it. 22, and have always much enjoyed the company of people older than me- so much more to learn!

This thread was fun to read- nice to know the stories (and how to pronnounce things!) I had always said Troy (trois) and danack (dana k) and for some reason always read violabird as voila (like a chef would say) - bird! Good to know! Susanne

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I never once thought of you as male. It is a good and memorable name.

Moon Twp, PA(Zone 6a)

Nice to meet you Susanne! I can't draw a straight line w/o ruler, but would like to be able to draw better than my 2nd grader! LOL. I kind of wish my boss would let me be like sleeping beauty, my namesake and let me sleep in and come in late. ~ Suzi aka BriarRose74 :)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

I never made that connection, Suzi. How descriptive and fun! :)

Say, we could help ya with a more feminine name, Susanne. How about artsy_n_gardensy? It's kinda cutesy, I know... but then folks might read it as 'antsy' which could open up a whole new realm of possibilities...

Nevermindsy.

Always staying true to my nick here. LOL ;)
Donna

P.S. I truly think art_n_garden is a classy nick.
