Happenstance, it was more than just interesting. It was also a lot of fun. Just before I moved to San Francisco, I went to the University of California, Berkeley, where a lot of the rebellion started. Oh, my! But those were the days - Kingston Trio at the hungry i, Tom Lehrer in the Berkeley Auditorium, protesters marching thru Sather Gate, and Flower Children everywhere. I started my college years as a freshman at the University of California at Davis in l957 and spent some time running around Sacramento. Don't remember any of that any more - it's been just too many years ago. But i remember it was a lot of fun. Dotti

Whoops, my apologies for going off the subject. Dotti

Just my name... I don't have to worry too much of it already being taken on most sites, lol..

Larkie

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

"TuttiFrutti"is a nick I acquired in my youth for having a corny sense of humor, and it mostly rhymed with my maiden name. The nick persisted when, later on in life, I demonstrated that I could be a "closet blonde".

I'm actually a brunette, but that doesn't stop me from being a bit of an airhead at times... hehehe...

*then quickly ducks and runs before the blondes start throwing compost at her*

Donna

P.S. Here's a link to three previous links about how many folks selected their DG names. More fun reading!!! :) http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/435599/

Prospect Park, PA(Zone 7a)

My initials are RAZ. There's a "famous" graffiti writer in Philadelphia, whose work I used to see when I worked in town, who painted giant RAZZ's all over the place with very colorful, intricate letters. I used to tease my kids that it was ME climbing up rooftops, etcs. My adult son often calls me RAZZ and his friends call me RAZZ(I was never one for the Mrs. Z thing.).

So I picked RAZZ...but with a girly-girl ending!

Mirpur (A.K), Pakistan(Zone 9b)

I love plants and pots (containers) , my nick is Gumlla in Urdu language the meaning of this word is Clay Pot for the plants.
Plants are always happy in Clay pots (containers) and with Gumlla ....

Garden, because I have always been a gardener, and mart for my first name, Martha. I need to remember things, so I use this screen name all the time. I had it first on my service, so no numbers. It also helps to distinguish this Martha from the "other Martha" who recently got out of jail. There are really not a lot of Marthas around. Heehee, though some folks thought I was a store at first.

Modi'in, Israel

Candy, that's a terrific set of photos! They really made me smile :-)

Bel Air, MD(Zone 6a)

I was 1st Sgt with the Sheriffs Department and my middle name is Dot.

Cochran, GA(Zone 8a)

Most free email account names were restricted to 8 letters (10-15 years ago, pre-yahoo/hotmail) and my first and middle names were both too long so I combined them Christina Nightwind became tinawind perfect 8 letter fit, and I just kept using it whenever I had to make an account name, only once has it ever been taken so its become a very useful net handle.

Christina Cat

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

When I was asked what name I wanted I was so new to DG that I didn't realize how important the name was so I just picked my Mothers name, Now i sign DonnaS as there are quite a few Donnas now.

Winchester, TN(Zone 7b)

I tried every garden related name I could think of and they were always taken so I just used the names of my two English mastiffs...Levi and Lyla.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

I have a silly question to ask: Happenstance and htop what is the word or initials under your zone?

2pugdogs probably tells it all. I have 2 pug dogs, a male and a female.

EDIT to say I really feel stupid, I just went up and clicked on the word and found my answer to the word under your zone. It is UBER and it told me what I wanted to know. Duh this is the kind of day I am having.

Oh, I just love this! I have wondered since joining DG how folks came up with their names!

Mine is simply my nick name, short for Mary Evelyn.

I have noticed a MaryE and wonder what her full name is, as well!

Pembroke Pines, FL(Zone 10a)

When first I joined DG I used" Materman " as my nickname but after registration, unbeknown to me, it came back as " Tplant ? " Don't know why but here I am and still growing my tomatos !

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

RikerBear:
Commander Riker from Star Trek fame (long story, but I did body/lighting double work at paramount in the late 80;s on ST-TNG)
And Bear cause I'm a big ole furry cuddly bear of a man.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

This thread is sooo interesting!!

berry is part of my last name, and the girl part..... well I'm not a boy- LOL!!

Verona, ON

Well, even though my DG name is Kidneyguy I am not a male. My DH was in serious renal failure when I joined DG and I wanted something that would connect me with him while I was at home and he was doing his thing at the hospital. Never ever did change it, but everytime I see it in print I smile and realize how blessed I am to still have him alive and in my life.
There has to be another *oldie but goodie* thread somewhere about the same thing, 'cause I can remember reading it months ago. Just have no idea where to go to find it.

Cool to see the variety of people her from Boss302 (I love muscle cars-much to my husband's chagrin), police, grandpa's & grandma's, mom's & dad's, old hippies (like me)-make love not war :-) , along with a little international flair and I am sure many more delightful groups of people.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Earthling

Northwest, MO(Zone 5a)

Doesn't take much to figure mine out. First name, last name, and year of birth.

I didn't have an imagination the day I signed on. I'm up for subscription renewal...and will most certainly renew as I just luv this place.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

You know, after reading all of the 4 other threads, I don't think I ever saw Horseshoe's explanation for his name??? I saw his RRRRREal name, but not where 'shoe came from....meanwhile 4 years later.... ;)

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

Shoe? Your appearance is requested!!

Au Gres, MI(Zone 5a)

Just stumbled on this thread........I first came to Dave's long time ago when there was no membership fee...and I signed on with the name of HappyGardener36.......I drifted away for a year or two, and forgot that this was the site I came to with the name HappyGardener36. NotMartha encouraged me to join this great site , which I did and I just put in my real name....Deann

I'm not too original, but I use my name and the same password every where I go...less apt to forgot....

Deann

Gordonville, TX(Zone 7b)

You might want to edit your last sentence, deann. ;-)

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

Mine is the name of a little village in England where I grew up.

Vi

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well, it certainly doesn't mean I have a lot of hostas! :) New garden.... no hostas, yet. I meant it sort of like a little suggestion. Hostas are such lovely plants... do yourself a favor and next time you stumble upon a lovely shade garden... just HUG A HOSTA :)

Joseph, OR(Zone 5a)

HUGE fan of Stevie Nicks! I wish I had the money to see her in Vegas next month. sigh........ And my real name is James, I'm 24. I have a picture of my girlfriend and myself on my member page taken in Newport, Oregon. Nice to meet you all!

J

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I can't imagine being without a pickup truck. There was a popular cw song about pickups and one of the lines talked about having "..an 8 foot bed that never has to be made".
The first time I got on the web after retiring from the Navy in '97, I happened to be without a truck and sharing the mini-van with DW. As I started settling into civilian life and home ownership, all I could think about was how bad I needed a full size truck with an 8ftbed!
Had the same username eversince and am on my 3rd ISP and 3rd truck since then as well.

Mine is our business name. We use it all the time for everything.
My daughter came up with the farm name many years ago. She was 6 or 7 at the time.

About 8ftbed, here all along I thought it referred to a flower bed!

Some of the others aren't quite what I had imagined.

Bernie

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

My first name is Paul and I like to grow things DUH!!!! hence Paulgrow

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I have to admit Paul, I suspected as much. :-)

At least I was able to guess your gender, as well. Is anybody else surprised at the genders revealed for some of these names? I kind of read peoples' posts with a voice in my head, based on the name. It's a little surprising when I've been reading someone's posts with either a feminine or masculine "voice" in my head, and then find out I got it wrong! lol

Don't worry, the "voices in my head" aren't sinister.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

Maggiemoo, I have been surprised several times by the genders later revealed. I know exactly what you mean about the voice inside your head: don't worry, you didn't sound sinister!

I am not very creative, so I just used my first name and my last initial. Bo-ring. And although there are guys named Dana, I'm a girl. And I'm 26. I also think it's interesting to know people's general ages. I feel younger than the average DGer, but now I know StvNicksFan is younger than me. :)

--Dana

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

CaptainMicha is also relatively young, i think :) I'm 29 and i'm up too late!!! :)

Paris, TX(Zone 8a)

It's also interesting to me to learn peoples' ages. I've pictured people to be older than they are, and often wonder if people do the same with me.

Just for the record, I'm 36 and female. I guess you all know that...Jennifer isn't exactly your average male name. lol

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I had no idea when I started. Then after awhile I'm almost surpised to run into another male or someone not retired. 46/m

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I was looking for a plant one day and found this site. I'm "Dispatcher 1" at work since I dispatch Trucks first shift. Just used that , not having any idea at all that I would love this site and still be here years later. It is confusing to some because they think Male and then see my real name __Lou-- and it is female and short for Louise. This has been a very interesting tread. Lou
