Something that I am dealing with is too much detail. I do logos for tees for a girlfriend's promo company and the detail is too much with the little, wispy flowers for the required format. I am trying to add less flowers, and use only larger ones with less detail. Would anyone have any great pics or ideas I could use?
Seed Snatchin' Part IV
Ladyannne, I hear you. KISS (Keep it simple, stupid). Your dumpster with flowers was great! I'd wear it with pride! If we plan to use the Dave's Garden name, we need to lose the little guy in the back. If we plan to lose the 'Dave's', then we need to continue discussions via personal email. To tell you the truth, if it hadn't been pointedo out, I'd never have noticed it. My DH did, and he's an old hippie!
Let's give it some more thought, but keep 'simple' in mind. We also need to remember that it has to make sense to those who see it, unless we want to explain ourselves everywhere we go... of course, that might be fun, too!
I'm liking the "Have Ziplocs Will Travel" but with the dumpster on the front, there will be no room to place that above a pocket as I doubt there would be room for a pocket and a decent sized iron on. I'd go with everything dstartz said. All joking aside, I'm thinking that the Dave's logo might be about as appropriate as the little plant in the back given the subject of the t-shirt is well... not necessarily going to be found to be amusing by anyone other than a gardener. I think it is hysterical but my husband might not appreciate me wearing it to his company picnic as people would most assuredly ask questions and he knows I'd answer. Well, you all know what I mean. I am thinking I would add a few more objects at the base of the dumpster for visual balance but even then, the original was pretty great looking without clutter at the base.
I would have to skip a visit to the Dave Letterman show.
God am I slow, but I always get there eventually! I like that little plant of days long gone and almost forgotten, young, care free, no to war, peace I said, long flowing skirt swaying to the breeze, hair, beautifull hair, dark and shiny, naked toes, stepping on the green grass, bracelet on my ankles with a jingle as I walked, and oh yes flowers in my hair, I remember now, laughing, happy, teeth so white, pass that this way, we should share, a hug for you, and you and you, dizzy from it all, God am I slow now, but I'll always get there eventually!
I bid you all pleasant dreams of the meadows and oceans of your youth....
Anyone truly interested in buying/discussing a tee please email me - Anne at packrat-pro.com Thanks!
Me me me! I want one and what ever you all decide for the iron on is perfectly fine by me!
Of course me, I e-mailed you Flowers!
8ft, I've even raked a yard of Yellow Maple leaves just for the seeds! (Not the whole yard, just the big piles neatly stacked by the wind!) They were thrilled (and, I think astonished.) I compost so much that I have bags of leaves stacked by my fence all summer long and really piled high in the fall. Weez is one of my most prolific donaters. Should have seen me, shakin' 'n punchin' the leaf bags in front of my banty stall in the chicken house tryin' to winnow the seeds to the bottom of the bag! LOL
I want a t shirt, too!
Best thread ever!
The "Other" Carol
Ceeades....you raked leaves??! Next year, I'm cleaning out the bottom of my seed tote and sprinkling them on the ground before the leaves fall. Maybe it'll inspire you! LOL!
Weez... what's UBER? Look what you've done!... Busses, snatchin', dumpsters, partners in crime!. (I'm so proud!!!!!) Been howlin' wit laughter!!! Finally got to the end of this thread. Yep, the Yellow Norway Maple kinda' across from the train info cache on third. That was last year, of course the weather had gone to 20F with a 20 knot northern screamer with gusts of 35. Sammy luckily showed up and helped hold the bags from ending up in the Bay! Banties loved rustling around inside in those leaves with the cold wind howlin' outside.
Can't wait to see the end result of what the tee will look like!!!
8ft - keep your clepto paws 'way from my rock! :-) Good rocks are hard to come by!! It's funny my last house had rocks everywhere - big ones, little ones. Where I am now - no rocks!! Well except for those little ones your lawnmower grabs and puts through the neighbors window!! Course we won't have to worry about that before too long.. When I'm finished the only grass left will be putting green size!
By the way Anne - your e-mail address is quit fitting!!!
Any recent Snatches anyone? My dh and I are going to a football game in Charlotte - (I won free tickets) tomorrow er-today and I'm keeping my eyes peeled!! Bet they have lots planted over there!!!!
I brought home some sweetfern babies Friday that I weeded out of a daylilly bed. I put them in a holding bed. I hope they survive. And some ripening hips from a graham thomas rose.
Have you ever had any roses sprout from seed? I believed what I red about taking a year or more and have only half heartedly jammed ripe hips in the bed edge here and there thinking I'd recognize any sprouts because odds are I'd forget when/where I "planted" them.
I am going somewhere today and "Going for the Snatch!" .... stay tuned
Yes, what is a Uber? I've now seen it mentioned in other threads and have never run across that term before.
Uber is German for above everything else. I think. BUT, where did she use it?? LOL!
I am new to growing roses from seed. Just thought I'd try it!
I think Uber has something to do with the number of contributions the user has made to the Plant Data Base.
Interesting, as pertains to the German definition of UBER. Thanks for clarifying. Now I have a better understanding of the dynamics of other threads. Great information and I did click on the word UBER under one subscriber's user name and lo and behold up popped what Ocean Girl mentioned.
And 8ft, I have tried to germinate roses from seed and that is one seed I have not been successful in germinating. Rats! If you ever get anything to germinate from your rose seed, let me know what you did as you and I are basically neighbors.
Are there any updates on the t-shirt? I sooooo want to get one to wear to my next Wild Ones Chapter meeting! They'll undersand!
I can't bring myself to plant the seeds I gathered, they're all invasive. AAuuugh!
My highschooler says UBER means 'over' or 'about'. Says it also depends on the context it's used.
God bless Google - here's the use that probably applies to designated gardeners in DG:
1. uber The ultimate, above all, the best, top, something that nothing is better
than
sugar... you gotta stay out of the dandelions. Sometimes quantity isn't better than quality.
equil - I agree. You should see some writings in various books I have. They'll pot up seeds and stick 'em on racks like in a bulb storage and keep checking for days, months, sigh... years. I'm giving the ziplock method a try today.
Uhmm, Snatch today - a Tradescant cutting outside a local establishment when I was making a run for ziplock bags.
Sugar, I just returned ffrom that thread (I was aghast!) so I had to laugh at your comment.
Equil, the link that Donna so wonderfully provided is what we need to work on first, the printer of the tees. Cafepress does do this easily, everyone could take their favorite version of the logo (with or without a particular leaf peeking through, with or without the "Diva" part, etc) and order their own. Perfect. Except....they only produce a logo with a max height of 3 3/4". That's terribly small. Sooo....some research on where to have the tees printed comes first, and I have not been up to much research of late, but will do so asap.
Well, I've got a pail of water, my clipers and I'm off to do some civic duty work. Some of these plantings need prunin up in ole Jax. Sidney
Ah Hah! New cultivar Taco Bell Lantana works for me. Grow it out and provide some seeds.
Poinsettia ! Good deal. You gonna just group 'em together for a seasonal color freebie?
Buttoneer .. we're waiting on ya .. Whar ya beez!
Scuse me, for getting carried away a bit .. See, Weez took the bus .. and had to go all the way back, to where this here trip was started (Part One of the Seed Snatchin' thread) .. to lasso up another new qualifying recruit .. back to the future - here!!
Reckon Buttoneer'll stumble on in here directly .. hee hee
Po' Weez! .. Just like a faithful and devoted ol mama meow kitty: If one of her babies goes astray - she's gotta go where ever they are, and fetch 'em by the nap o'da neck, and pack 'em all the way back 'home' .. .. LOL ..
- Magpye
Here I am, Magpye... dropped that kitten a thread or two back, but my jaws were tired! I see you went back and added the links the the other threads, but for some reason, I don't think a cut and pasted link from a post comes back as a link when you paste it. Better go back an' edit!
Sure nuff Weez ..!!
I didn't even think about the c & p not doing the trick with the links.
Glad you let me know Weez - and, know that I truly appreciate it also.
(BTW .. whars the 'dunce' caps gonna be stored, on the bus? Fer it looks like yall mite be a needin'um ever so often!) .. Gonna have my own shirt fix'd up - with the emphasis on the 'maniac' part !! .. lol
Wellll, my ol heart was in the right place - but, dangummit, le' brain twernt .. hee
Hah .. Perhaps I'd best leave that thar doins' to you xspurts! lol
I do bleeve I got 'em all fix'd now tho' - just go 'tripler-chek' me.
- Magpye
Better you than me, Magpye. I get so confused when I'm cutting and pasting links... I'm not sure where I'm sending everybody. If we're going to take a dunce cap, we'd better get more than one... hey! we could swipe some of those nice fluorescent orange ones from the constructions sites along the road as we go!
LOL ...
... Yep, them'd sure nuf git r dun!!! ..
Hah .. We'd sho' nuff be easier to spot, while we're duncin' here and about!
.. LOL .. Also when not in use otherwise - we could use 'em to cordon off any
foot and vehicle traffic, whilst doin' our dumpster divin' and seed deeds!! .. hee
Jes simply ingenius Weez!! .. lol
- Magpye
Weez, shall we now add .. the 'CCC' ? (Cone Confiscatin' Commitee)
.. LOL ..
Weez, there's jes something about yappin' with ya .. that jes seems to trigger
and bring about my bestest imagination, and creative capabilities .. hee
(jes don't send me back anywhere to post any hyperlinks!) ... lol
- Magpye
Weeze, I saw colapsale nylon traffic cones a Big Lots. I'd probably have to wear it the most anyhow.
Guess You know I'm going with those Lazy Daisy. It's a part time daisy, It gets up late, goes to bed too.
How fun.
How many cones we need? I only saw orange ones.
Nah .. no way sugarweed ..
I've got dibbs on the dunce cap .. first!! ..
.. hee hee ..
Gonna get off of here early tonite!
G'nite all ..
- Magpye
That lazy daisy must be a late bloomer! I vote for Magpye getting first watch on the dunce cap... I shoulda got first watch, but I'm demurin' to her sovereign rights!
Gotcha.
My David earned his tee shirt yesterday!!! We were out shopping, walked through Marie Calender's parking lot and he wandered off, coming back with dry yellow Daylily seed pods overflowing in his hands. I am sooo proud of him!
We will probably need as many dunce caps as people on da bus, me thinks, cause we ALL get blonde from time to time. Or is it grey? I can't remember.....sigh.....we could make it part of the uniform, lol!!!
Yes, one for each...just like life jackets on a boat! Big attaboy to David, as well! Another convert!
I have to add something to this thread. When me & my husband take a trip somewhere, I am always armed with little plastic bags, (I save the plastic cups from the sugar free jello I eat for lunch but I like the styrofoam cups better cause you can write on them & throw them away. Anyway, here's a scenario of us driving down the road: Judy: "Bob, pull over! There's a neat flower growing over there in that field. Don't go so fast, you'll miss it. PULL OVER!!!!" and he groans and pulls over. Then I literally jump out of the car, armed with my seed-collecting equipment and start joyously collecting seeds. When I get back into the car, he growls," If you get caught & go to jail, don't call me for the bail." LOLOLOLOL He's such a spoilsport but he still pulls over, begrudgingly. I got him trained well. I've been doing this for years. We're going to Florida in March 2005 & I am so anxious, I am breaking out in a sweat. What really threw me was that I was so into this when we were in Texas, about 20 years ago, I never even considered the snakes, scorpions, etc I might be stepping on when I was jumping around in the fields. Oh my, this one has it baaaaaadddd. I've developed many ways to appear "nonchalant" when I'm collecting in the middle of a town, including pretending to smell the flowers while snipping, etc. I do take my digital camera along & take pix of the plant so I can identify the flowers & label the seeds correctly. I'm even going to be collecting Heterandria formosa (those little coffee-brown live bearing fish found in Florida.) when we go, so I'm bringing a fish net, a large fishbowl, several gallon jugs to collect the water, etc. Guess I'm a born collector, huh?
Here you are buttoneer! I knew you and your posting would find us! Yes, you certainly qualify as a seed snatcher. I think most of us have left deep grooves in our husbands' arms from all those years of clutching and screaming 'Pull over! Pull over!
On a slightly different topic, I have to tell you, your story reminds me of one a friend from years ago told me. She made jewelry from animal teeth, claws, bones, etc, and sold them locally. The local trappers and hunters generally brought her the heads and feet of their prey, which she carefully boiled off a the kitchen stove, then removed the parts she needed. I never ate lunch there.
Anyway, on a trip through Texas, she began noticing all the armadillo road kills and the nice long claws. On one occasion, along a Texas freeway, she notice a dead armadillo on the center divider. She insisted her husband stop, and when he did, she jumped out, removed a hatchet from the car truck, and proceeded to hack the paws off the expired armadillo. A few miles down the road, they stopped at a diner for lunch, and they overheard some horrified motorist relating a tale about a mad woman hacking an armadillo to death along the highway! Flowers, claws, rocks... whatever it might be, I think it is in the nature of mankind to be scavengers!
Oh My!! That is hilarious! I can't imagine what I would think if I would have seen her too. I can just picture someone on the side of the road taking a hatchet after an Armadillo. Oh my!
