Seed Snatchin' Part IV

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Hanna, you ought to start a thread on rocks! Could you take some pics? With a bit of info for your DH, it would be quite interesting and informative. I think all gardeners deal with rocks... we dig em and pile em or we collect them and use them. Small ones go in ponds or pots, big ones are used as borders or in rock gardens. Rocks are part of gardening.

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Tooo funny, Hanna! My mum was a first grade teacher for a few decades and I was the recipient of her room when she retired. My daughter got the shells, my son got the rocks, and we have been adding to both ever since. My only regret was that I gave away the three by three by four foot box stuffed to the brim with Abalone shells. What WAS I thinking????

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

LadyAnn, your a riot, quick thinking, I'm still ROTFLMAO, my pockets are always full of deadheading clippings, sometimes I forget about them till I wear a jacket again, reach in pocket for something, and SURPRISE, lol....

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Ladyannne, I just caught your post about latex glove seed collection... what a hoot! Don't know how I missed that! Your poor daughter! One can only hope to live long enough to become an embarassment to their children!

Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

OH, I FORGOT, recently we renovated part of our Atrium and had drainage done ALL around our home, the guys would dump all the dirt and rocks in the street, as I would go there and say NO NO to throwing away the rocks, I pulled tons out as they would shake their heads thinking I was a nut case, and got a lot of weird looks by passerbys, our dirt here is heavy clay, they had to use power tools to dig in a lot of places, the guy We hired felt We got our moneys worth since He didn't expect to run into this problem, oh well.
My DH is a MicroPaleonthologist, lol, and much too busy to help me play on Dave's, sorry to say! And LadyAnne, what else are the underside of seats for besides rocks, lol, specially when crossing those lines..
GardenAddict, on a symposium DH went to, he was carrying this cut fossilized rock to give as a present for the University in another country, got stopped at the Airport, they confiscated it, He wrote a scatting letter on the Oil Company's letterhead to the Airlines, and guess what, the gal actually had taken it home, had to bring it back, lol, he received a letter of apology!!! this was many years ago!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Opportunity awards for the Cafeteria and Kaiser capers!
When this sub division was being built, it was a Sat morning ritual to cruise the newly opened lots looking for rocks.

I found this one I just coullllllldn't get lifted into my truck. I went back 3 times still trying to hump that into the bed. FINE! I got a truck and another method in mind. I roll up to the "dumpster" at the next house that's being built. I find that metal band used to strap down bricks on a pallet. Manage to extract 2 length from the dumpster (only cut myself once but made a whole lot of noise). I backed up to that rock , got the straps around the rock and around the hitch. Couldn't tie a not but I did get another cut! I eased up till I felt tension... than drug that rock down the road and back to the house about 8 blocks away. I rolled it onto what I estimated the corner of my lot to be and the scars dug into the road were only visible for a couple of months. ;-p

My son is deployed to the mid east. I told him he HAS to come back because he has to bring me a rock or I'm gonna kick some butt.

Still recovering from reading about the latex exam gloves....yes, I will get you a photo of that nice blue dumpster! I don't have a camera with me today.

Rocks... I stand back and admire them before I haul them off. Anyone remember that old movie with Lucille Ball and Dezi where they were on their honeymoon driving a long trailer? That reduces me to fits of laughter every time I think of it at the same time I come to a stop light and something rolls out from under my seat. I've got it down to a science now in that if I take off quick enough, I can get to roll right back where it came from all nice and tucked away and out of view.

My husband threatens he is going to get a crane and lift up my car and shake it a few times to see how much falls out. I think homeless people moved into my car without telling me! That's the real problem!

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

I have this vision of archeologists in a thousand years wondering how this type of rock got HERE????

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

The mystery of the migrating rocks!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

bawaaaahahaha! You girls are a riot.

I found a small flat piece of stone with a shell imprint about silver dollar size. I wonder if some cave-gardener moving in from the coast had drug it along? I gave it to my sister who is also a rock hound, so now the thing is down in TX!

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Ladyannes picture of ? in the "Dealers in Fine Garbage" printed on it's side is one of the best looking dumpsters I've seen. The companies name is in some kind of fancy font, that could be redone to say "Cleptobotanics" instead of "Mundelen.whatever". Whatcha think? Hope it's alright to re-run this photo. Sidney

I knwo where there's a better picture. Next week I'll take a photo of the small blue one and I'll also get a photo of the nice big one that you need a step ladder to get into. It also has advertising on the side. You all pick which dumpster best meet your needs.

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

ROFL!! Perfect, Equil. I did have that one already, Sugar, thanks anyway! It's out of skew, but I COULD fix it....hmmm.....ok, taking a break from Tday cleaning to sit for a bit and play.

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

It says "Dealer in Fine Garbage" too? Thats the best.

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

ROF!! Someone help me, I can't stop. Having so much fun. An EXTREMELY rough draft.....

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Very cute .... nice leaf hanging out in the back on the left side ;-)

Maybe a manly version with with red and green "love lies bleeding" hanging over the sides like dreadlocks?

I want a shirt with your final version!!! and will prowl with pride

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Love the logo! We might want to lose the little guy in the back row before we get in trouble here! Keep up the good work, ladyannne!

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Weez, you KNOW I could not have resisted!! Thanks for the amarnath idea, 8ft, think I have a picture of that lying around. I would not mind collecting some taller, better, blue, yellow flower pictures. I resisted putting "Have ziplocks, Will Travel" on it, too.

Are we serious about doing this? This is FAR from done. How about, if we are serious, that we collect suggestions for the wording and vote? Let'em rip, I will track them.

Looks as if you don't need any dumpster photos from me! I'm thinking you did perfectly fine without them. Any way to get the whole phrase on the dumpster... Dave's Cleptobotaniacs and Dumpster Diving Divas? You will have an entire shirt to work with and maybe you could enlarge the actual dumpster... come to think about it... how about an array of finds around the base of the dumpster. There's a whole world of refuse just a waitin to be plucked and those mini blinds came to mind.

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

In case someone might possibly think I was stepping in too strongly, if anyone has any logo ideas or logos, let's look at more!

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

What the Texas Star Hibiscus leaf Weez? I think it fits perfectly! LMBO

Oh noooooooooo, I love what you did! I just want more more and even more trash! Quite frankly I'd even leave that 5 star leaf in as I think it's funny.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Funny, but probably not something Dave wants his name on! LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Boy, I wasn't gone long and look at all this!! Hanna good for your DH! How dare they take his fossil!! 8FT that is hilarous!!!! Glad you got your rock - wish I could have seen it!! I am currently looking for a bigger than can pickup rock to use as a background for a bubble fountain... One of these days..

Well folks, I couldn't resist.. On my way back to the office from doing inventory I took my tiny work knife and cut out 2 Rhapis Palm babies (one with roots-YA) and another house plant I can't identify. We do have cameras everywhere so we shall see what happens when I try to make my exit in a few minutes!! If they aren't confiscated I will post pics!!! :-)))

It's all your fault really!!!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

NC, power to the pruner!

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Mini blinds? Yiu want me to draw MINI blinds???? Sigh.....okay, how about if I do the mad professor eyebrows instead? LOL!!

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

??

Thumbnail by ladyannne

Oh my ladyannne, I like that very much! Now add back all the plant material and don't be forgetting that nice five leaved whatever it is. So, Dave might not want to claim us huh! Well then allrightie, can't say as I'd blame him so let's be prepared to ditch his name and leave the rest! Proceeds can still go to that Garden Angel program correct?

Tough bargain... I'll take the mad professor eyebrows and whatever else it was I asked for in place of the mini blinds. Not on the t-shirt though.

I'm placing my order for a ladies medium!

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Ok, troops. Time to inpout YOUR vote before I get too carried away with the final copy. AND we need someone to do tee printing research....

I'm thinking anything goes other than permission should be asked to use his name on the front of the dumpster.

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

Equil, agreed. Who is going to ask? (disappearing back in to her drawings, NOT volunteering for this one!)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Certainly an adorable lil blue dumpster!! And, some plum cute lil ideas and pics ..
But, however .. accompanied with that 5 leaved weed in particular - it's not anything that I'd
even remotely consider giving any such release to the use of 'Cleptobotaniacs' ® on
either folks ...

So, I'm assuming we're going to revert back to Weezs initial seed snatchin' and the miscellaneous
adventures of our infamous dumpster divin' diva's, etc., .. and clean things back up .. before any one
risks getting this wonderful thread pulled ..

I, for one, and .. surely more, if not all, of us - certainly, don't desire to see this, or any of these threads ..
even risk becoming edited by DG administrators - let alone being pulled !! !! !!

It's not worth the risk, and furthermore - all so unnecessary .. Don't you guys agree ??

Cape Cod, MA(Zone 7a)

I love the graphic's ladyanne! I like the second version best...

It would be nice if we could post more pics of the results of out cleptobantanical missions , like 8ftbed did... nice lillies! You know, what great plants we got from free seeds, etc...

Thanks for the compliments on my (ahem) house. (excuse me there some milkweed fluff stuck in my throat)

I'm sorry if I misled. I was talking about my day at work in the post, and this is a pic of me at work.
I work for a small company and we make gardens for very rich people, mostly- some of them multi-millionaires, CEO's etc. The "little" house in the picture is one of their summer homes. The guest house on the property is 3 times the size of my little Cape. This property Has a pool, a putting green, and a total of 15 bathrooms. (Shucks if I had that I could go for weeks without cleaning the bathroom, just go on to the next one when one gets dirty, LOL.)
The people spend 2 months of the year in the house and they live the rest of the year in a house with about 4 times the square footage. (someplace much warmer!!)
I do work on the water nearly every day so that's where my user name comes in, I love it, always having lunch in the best places, with a view.

I will accept the compliments on the blower, though, although this one isn't mine, I have one just like it.!
;)

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL... that's like Ron White talking about getting the Sears tower in a lawsuit. Throw a big hair party and someone asking if they should clean up... "Nawwww, let's move to another FLOOR!"

permission... If all that's in the logo is "Dave's", how can that be a problem. No rights to the name by itself.

Oooh - Maybe it'll get the group a free trip to the Tonight Show - Dave Letterman. In fact, our activities is something he's prone to showcase now and then.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Well I just love it!! Esp with all the flowers about! I am agreeable so whatever you all come up with will be great! I'm in on the ladies medium too...

Oceangirl - 15 bathrooms!! WOW.. I'm with you on the cleaning part!!! By the way, you wanted pics right?? Well here's what followed me home today from my office!!

First Pic I call - Cafeteria and beside the liberated cafeteria plant is my AK rock I liberated some 6 or so years ago from Weezins little state up North..

Thumbnail by ncgardenaddict
Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

If anyone happens to know Cafeteria's bot. name I would love to know.

Now this pic/plant I'm calling "Elevator" b/c the poor thing was just jammed in there with a bunch of her cousins. Here at my abode she will have a pot to call her very own!

Thumbnail by ncgardenaddict
Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

If anyone knows Elevator's bot. name, do tell...

Lastly these 2 are Rhapis palms so I won't give them a crazy name.. But if I did they would both be the twins, LOBBY and lobby.. LOBBY (she's on the right) actually has a bit of root but unfortunately lobby does not.. I hope she makes it.. If anyone has any tips do tell - never tried to do this with palms before. I am assuming a touch of rooting hormone and some dirt? They are in water now and I think I'll hold off a bit to see if any of you pros have ideas for me.

That's all!! Going to go play plants now!!! Tell me when those shirts are ready!!!

Thumbnail by ncgardenaddict
Castro Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

GardenAddict, Cafeteria and elevator, go girl! palm should be fine, the roots do not grow deep but all across bottom, put in water and then rooting hormone to plant I think, I do that with Pineapple anyhow. Nice rock too, lol, ok, I'll take a pic of some of perdy ones!! will get posted later!
If We leave out Dave's name, We can make it look however we want it to look, and still donate, right??

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I think that variegated is Iron something or other, or Chinese something. Low-light deluxe. Grow it in your closet almost. I've gotten rusty on my 'houseplants' since I quit traveling with the Navy and bought a house.

good haul nc... I'll send you my address so you can git rid of that rock. I know you don't want it or need... taking up space and stuff.

Personally, I vote

- against the 5 lobed leaf
- for the last dumpster's verbage
- for more plants, rocks, etc around the base of the dumpster and the stuff back in the dumpster.
- for a bee-keeper hatted person standing beside the dumpster.
- "Have ziplocks, Will Travel" is a must! On the front of the T-shirt, right above where a ppocket will be.

I would also like to see Dave's logo on it. I would be more than happy to ask Dave about it.

http://www.cafepress.com is an option for printing. Dave can set up an account for it and reap all the profits if need be.
