Too funny! Last week I took Friday off for a "gardening day" which my co-workers thought was hilarious. So on Thursday I got all the stuff from Home Depot to do all the work I needed to do. Friday morning I got up early to start it, but had to jump online first.... well, I was out in the yard by noon... that's not bad... right? Ha! I think I spend more time on gardening websites now then I do actually gardening! :)
Worst thing about DG?
DG is an internet addiction enabler. ;-)
AA's got nothing on us.
Welcome to GA.

hehehehehehehe
I just got home from work and am covered in paint! All I've wanted to do since I got up this morning was shower, but I'm a painter and there's no point to doing that before work... I probably will be on here for a few more hours and won't get to showering until later.... It's rediculous, really, it is. I hope my roomate doesn't complain about the oil and thinner smell... Mere
Laundry's done....gotta start dinner soon....suppose I should get out in the yard eventually :-)
Dare rabbit! :-)
Glad to see you're sufficiently domesticated there riker. :)
Oh yeah.....I'm altogether house broken. :-)
By husband prefers the term "beat into submission." JUST KIDDING!!!
:-) Ah domestic violence....I mean bliss
Good one- touché! :)
The worst thing about Dave's Garden. Hmmm. 1: My family thinks I am going berserk because I'm sitting here laughing out loud, etc. and there is no one else around. 2. I had to buy a new coffee maker with a timer, because it takes too long to start the coffee in the a.m. and I need DG and coffee as soon as I get up. 3. I have embarassed any number of delivery people due to my attire, or lack of it. 4. While we were having the house painted this summer I had to get dressed BEFORE signing in because there are lots of windows. 5. I am now always late for everything, because there's always one last peek at DG before leaving the house. 6. I want every plant, slip, shrub, tree I've seen, regardless of whether or not it is zone 5 survivable. 7. I have to tape multiple tv shows because I wander away from the set and miss endings. And beginnings. Middles. There's more but I can't list them because I have to go check my threads.
Pssst, Meezer... as to #7, it's all about TIVO!!! The other thing I can't live without! :) Though I do have it set to "tell me" anytime an episode of Sex and the City is coming on which is problematic since TIVO tries to "guess" other shows you may be interested in seeing by what you set to record for you. Let's just say some racy Cinemax shows have shown up on my "suggestions" list!!!! So I have a few raunchy titles mixed in with home and gardening shows, animal shows, and my husband's nerdy science channel shows. Ha! Jamie
... * * Warning! Warning! * * ...
Do NOT .. I repeat: DO NOT put DG.com as your 'home' page !!
Based upon experience ... Some mitey gosh awful circumstances will befall anyone that does!
Spayshally, for the women folk ...
Reason is .. one's gotta have a 'back up' in order to substantiate ones 'claim' that one is truly NOT addicted to DG. If one can browse the current events .. as is usually listed on our current (most folks) home pages .. it will curtail the infamous and sometimes sarcastic interrogatory questions .. that are so sweetly (but deceiptfully) .. asked, by our hubbies and significant others . . . " well hun, what's been newsworthy today?" . . . These such meek and innocent inquiries, are nothing shy of .. TEST questions!! So, beware ...
Where (we) can rightfully (and sortee honestly) respond with a few quips of what we took yonder fleeting glance of ... (that merely 'flashed' by our faces, while 'on the way to DG') .. to our 'concerned' beloveds !! ... HEE ..
My Interent provider services' home page 'provides' ample proof - (I mean, current events!!)
Now I ask ya - Don't all ISPs 'home' pages provide such ??
Another hint .. always have DG 'open' in its very own 'window' .. in case of crucial shutdown of the window! Just click that 'X' in double time .. and it's done-fer!! Your other 'busy' productive windows will be waiting and visible on the side-lines .. or, ready for instant maximization!!
LOL
I hereby rest my case ...
So Mags, what has been news worthy today??? :-)

Thanx Darius for update on LSP
Meezer - taping them isn't going to help, you'll never leave the computer long enough to watch the tapes.
Since I bought my house, I take a day off every week during September and October, so I can rake leaves, put the garden and lawn to bed, and generally prepare the house for winter. And before DG, I did just that. Now I get up earlier than before so I can get my fix before going out - but still get out later than before. And I leave the computer on and DG on stand-by all day, so when I come in to use the bathroom I can click on home and see what I've missed. And since I'm getting up earlier, I drink more coffee, so I go to the bathroom more. And each time I say, I'll just check my e-mails and threads, NOTHING ELSE! 10 minutes max. By the time I finally go back outside, I have to go to the bathroom again...
NO, this is NOT like AA. At AA they try to get you to stop! Here we just feed each other's weakness. And BTW - it's 9:15 and I'm still in my work clothes , the pets haven't eaten, and the grocery bags are still on the counter. Frozen dinners - I laugh!
Sequee... I swear you've been reading my mail!
Texasgarden suggests TIVO?? Get thee behind me Satan! Having mastered four VCRs, a cell phone, the microwave, the remotes for the dish tv, none of which work the same, and the cd player, there is NO ROOM left in my brain for Tivo. Everytime I have to learn something new, something old falls right out of my head. It's exactly like your hard drive, ya know, and you can't take your brain in for clean up, or get a new one. One of these days I'm going to have to leave a trail of bread crumbs to find my way home. No, make that cookie crumbs, I'd be more likely to pay attention.
Missed you all last night! Had a sick baby.. Nothing serious just a head cold that needed lots of hugs! I EXPLAINED to him I was missing DG but he just didn't get it! Oh well, back at work now - been here 35 minutes, been on Daves the whole time! Oops

OK - one more thing.. Forgot to bring my checkbook to work this morning to pay bills but I DID remember to bring the seeds I am mailing off for a trade. LOL
Gotta have your priorities you know!
You guys are killing me!!But it is 10:05 and I really should get to my 10 am pt

Nc - How old is the baby? How soon until you can get the little bugger addicted? (I understand that once they can curl their little fingers and make a fist you can put a trowel in it...then it's off to the races!
Sequee, he's 2 and a half! Guess what he got for his second birthday from his mommy - gardening - boots, gloves, trowel, shovel, etc etc He already loves going out in the garden with me. He and my dogs step all over my seedlings though! I am going to have to get him addicted early b/c my husband has motorcycles and I suspect I will lose out to that...
Or you can just get what I have instead of tivo - a Dish Network Satellite account. They have a receiver with a built in Tivo like recorder. It's called a PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and it's no extra charge - you just upgrade your receiver. I have had it for almost 2 years now and could not live without it. And we've been with Dish Network for over 7 years with no problems.
Of course now that I can record anything I would like to watch, I think I watch more TV late at night, just trying to catch up on all I have recorded. It's wonderful to never have to watch commercials anymore though.
Good heavens - if you don't get commercials, when do you go to the bathroom?
You hit pause so you don't even have to wait for the commercials - you can go anytime. :)
Actually, I use the pause button all the time. No longer do I have to tell the kids to leave me alone while I am watching something. Anytime they or my husband needs to ask me something, I just hit the pause button and respond. I never miss a beat.
Yep- and not even on what you recorded... you can pause LIVE TV!!! Crazy stuff man, but very cool! :) BTW- we have Directv and ours is built in to the receiver as well. It was $99 for the upgrade and worth every cent.
Hey Texasgarden, does it add to your monthly rate for Direct TV as well? That's what we have. That way I could watch the Scifi channel all the time! LOL
I actually wanted to get the Direct TV internet service until they told me how much it was.. EH gads!!!
We just switched from Comcast actually so we got a special deal. It was to be a free receiver (up to 3) but since we got the TIVO adapter one we had to pay the $99 upgrade. The package we got is ALL channels offered by D.TV plus the NFL package for about $55/mo. After 4 months it will be more like $100+ so we will be stepping down to a more reasonable package! Anyway, all that to say I just got my first bill from them and since it's a promo package I don't know how much extra it is, if anything at all, to add TIVO. They have a website where you can check it out though!!! We have Earthlink DSL- changed from Comcast on that too. I hate Comcast. That company is run by the Devil himself I think. :)
sweezel, lol - ggiggling here.
My putor is a lap top, it lives on a tv table in front of my chair which means I only have to lift my eyes from one screen to the other across the room. The funny part is I get so involved here on DG that I will miss some part of the show I am watching even tho it's right in front of me. DG is just more interesting. oh, yeah, and that's what's wrong with DG. tee hee hee ~ Blooms
What?? Leave this site to go to another one? Thanks for info!!
I will check it out!
Nicole
My computer's in the sunroom so I have to choose between TV or DG - somehow I don't feel as guilty about DG - at least I'm interacting - and with REAL people! (Those people on TV NEVER answer my questions and rarely crack me up!)
NC, there should not be an add on fee for the receiver for DirectTV, because there is not one for Dish Network. The main reason Tivo charged was because it had to download a schedule from somewhere, but of course the Satellites do that already. The only difference between regular receivers and PVR is that they have added a hard drive and software to the receiver.
Blooms, I have one of those too. :) My husband has his Linux laptop in the living room. I will occasionally do the same - watch tv and surf - but most of the time it is not worth it. I hate the stupid touch mouse on this old laptop and my husband is always changing the linux operating system (sometimes twice in a week). I have to find the browser, my bookmarks not there, and it's just too slow.
Okay I just leaned back and took this picture of my set up. My atlas, Sunset garden book, phone, and of course coffee are all within reach. My DD calls my chair the command post when she comes by and finds me in it.
You may /or not/ notice the tv is sitting in front of a gov winthrop slant top desk. Well, the desk is in the former place of the tv. Have decided the desk must live elsewhere as I've tried the tv every place avail in the room. [which as you can see is small and quite crowded] So imagine the tv back where the desk is between the shelves, please.
The desk is a new aquisition it arrived as a surprise and got it in out of weather danger immediately. Now it awaits my arising from this keyboard to rearrange many places in the house in a "But FIRST ya hafta" move at least two other things. JUst like gardening.
vaery nice set-up - and it's acvery warm and homey space you have!
