Worst thing about DG?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I haven't had a meal that wasn't over cooked since I joined! I swear, I set the timer when I put the pasta, rice or veggies on, but I get so involved I forget to listen for it ~:-(... warm mush! Maybe I should just make oatmeal!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Right now, it's not getting OFF here and ON to my moving preps.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

my puter is in the kitchen-works well! ;)
i have trouble shuttting down at nite!!! but 7am im turning back on!
Sequee welcome to my home-its been 4yrs for me last sept!

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

My worst problem with DG is that it's ruining my reputation! I log in about 7AM, feed the animals at 9AM, and about noon or thereafter someone comes to my door and I answer it in my nightgown! I'm sure the yard man, FedX man, mailman, etc. thinks I run a house of "ill repute" for VERY senior citizens! Where does the time go??? Or worse yet, where do all the good intentions of absolutely closing down the computer at 11AM go? *sigh*

I love this thread!!! So true and so funny!! I'm just not witty, but I do so appreciate people who are.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, my husband came in Friday night and said "you are 27 years old and spend your free time and weekends on gardening websites and chatrooms... I think I need to do an intervention." Ha! He was threatening to call my mother and have a big family intervention. Good stuff... oh, he was kidding of course. I told him I could have far worse addictions... or be obsessed with far worse websites if ya know what I mean. :) Jamie

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Last Friday my boss came into the office and I was on DG as usual. He shook his head and said, "Any chance you're going to do any work today?" I said, "Good heavens, it's 2:15 - seems kind of silly to start now!" He went in to his office and came back a few minutes later to ask, "How's it looking for tomorrow?" When I finished rolling on the floor I pointed out that the chances were very good, as long as he got to me BEFORE I logged on! (He's a VERY smart man - he should have figured that one out for himself!)

Hey - I just noticed - Dave must be fooling with the fonts again!

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

It's even worse on Tuesday nights if I get on the chat. My husband just looks at me and says "uh-oh, it's Tuesday night". Once I start in on the chats, it's really hard to drag me out of my seat to even put on something simple like a frozen dinner.

TUCSON, AZ(Zone 9a)

I know what you guys mean. I turn on my computer then turn on the coffee pot! I keep telling myself that I need to get off...... then I spot another to look at like this. LOL I am still here when my DH gets home from work. hehehe Binky :))))))))

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Don't you think he could handle that frozen dinner by himself, sweez - seems a shame you have to leave DG for something as trivial as that!! lol I mean, honestly, MEN!!!

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

No way ... the ultimate is 'twilight zone' material!! .. When you've got your ol faithful pooter 'bootin' up fer ye and goin' strait to DG.com and waiting on ya already - when you're coming up the stairs first thing in the mornings !!!

Ahh, shucks .. nevermind .. I jes forgot to shut her down last nite!! ... hee hee hee ...

Even worse, is .. ME .. by-passin' my mornin' coffee! ... Oooo, now .. that, is scarry ! .. ha ..

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, if it was just him, it would not be too bad. ...But there are 4 kiddos constantly asking when I am starting dinner too. They know all to well what Dad's food tastes like to ask him.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Well my DH (and the meaning of the "D" changes from time to time if you know what I mean) knows better. Don't ask me "what's for dinner" because the answer is "whatever you're making." I am not a big women's lib person or anything, but it irritates me that having a uterus makes me suddenly the main person responsible for taking care of babies, cleaning and cooking! I have two magnets on my fridge that I get lots of laughs from- one says "I love a man with dishpan hands" and the other says "if a man's home is his castle, let him clean it." :) Really my husband is pretty good and does "get it." I work a full time job so I am not doing more than my share of housework.... however, he is in school full time in a very difficult engineering program, works about 15 hours a week, and is in National Guard. So, I do cut him some slack. But it works both ways b/c he did way more than his share when I was studying for the CPA exam... all 3 times. :) Now I have a DG addiction that he must deal with. Seriously, we do make an effort to be thankful and grateful for the efforts of the other. Like if I cook he says "thanks for dinner" and I do the same. So it isn't like one of us is expected to do it. Then whoever didn't cook goes and cleans the kitchen. Don't get me wrong- we do have moments! Like I started doing all the laundry- including folding his for him, stacked in order based on what drawer it goes in. All he had to do was put it away. He just got used to it. So I didn't do it one weekend and he actually got mad b/c his clean laundry was thrown on the bed not folded! One look from me and he realized his near fatal mistake though. Ha! But I think that's the problem- they are like dogs sort of. You train them and it's hard to undo. So when they are trained that you will make them dinner, keep the house clean, etc. they start to expect it and it's hard to undo that. So ladies, crack the whip and keep those guys in check!!! :)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Worst thing about DG you ask??? I'd say the post above mine sums it up pretty well.....Man bashing is an open sport here on DG.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL! Well, before I came along my husband used to do all the cooking for his kids, but now I do 90% of it. I think it is mostly my fault. I am just too organized and usually have something planned and thawed so he expects it. Occasionally, I will ask him to start it, but I know just the way it needs to be made so I end up finishing. If I start and feel overwhelmed, I have no qualms about asking him to help (or screaming out "help!" LOL). We also have a kind of agreement, that he does the clearing of the table & cleaning if I do the cooking.

Luckily, my 14 yo SD does the laundry and we pay her for it. :) My best girlfriend went through the same thing with her husband getting used to her doing the laundry. She would do laundry night after night after work and when she did not get something washed, her husband would complain about it. Finally she got fed up and bought him his own hamper and told him to do his own. She said the darn thing will be busting at the top before he does it. She said the biggest negative side-effect in the beginning was that he had to go shopping for more clothes! When she did them, he always had clothes in his closet and five pairs of jeans were plenty. Not anymore.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

You actually cook them??? Geez - I thought they were FROZEN dinners! My idea of dinner is a bag of chips and a six pack!

RB - You will NEVER hear me men-bashing (ok, make that rarely!) - guess you need to have one to bash one!

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Rikerbear- and it's always unjustified and unfair huh? :) Ha! I actually prefer the company of men as opposed to women most of the time, if you can believe that! Whiny, gossipy, sensitive to every little comment, etc. I can do without drama queens and somehow that just isn't an issue with men. I can go to lunch with a couple of my male friends and not wonder if they are talking about me behind my back when I get up to go to the bathroom. Sooo, men do have their place. HA! LOL!
Sweezel- the phrase you are looking for is "control freak." I can relate b/c I am one too. That is the only reason I do the all the laundry and grocery shopping?... b/c he would "do it wrong" if he was allowed to touch anything.
At least on DG you can have a sense of humor and speak your mind without people getting all in an uproar. Seems like here, unlike other message boards, people take comments as they were intended and either jump right in and crack a joke yourself, or don't follow a particular thread if you don't like what's being discussed. Oh wait, we were supposed to say what we DON'T like huh? :)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I am not getting any work done. That's the worst thing! I am going to have to learn to stay off here during the day before I get myself in trouble or worse - fired. I can NOT stop though!! What if I miss out on a good trade? OR, I need to look that plant up OR so in so's DW just had a baby, or a puppy or or or... Right now I am supposed to be re-doing a spreadsheet I totally messed up yesterday.. My mind is just not 'here' it is HERE at DG's! Even as I say this I won't be signing off..

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Alright ncgardenaddict... let's babystep! Sign off, then make yourself wait 30 mintues before signing back on... or if you are really far gone maybe you should wait 10 minutes then work your way up. Then limit yourself to a few times a day, then maybe twice a day... Ha! LOL!
My work is either feast or famine so that's why I am online all the time. I'm BORED!!! Then I get a bunch of work to do, but I don't want to b/c I want to get back on the computer... . Seriously, if you are going to get in trouble at work then maybe you should take a deep breath and step away from the computer! Which is hard to do if you need it for work... quite a mess we're in isn't it? :)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I didn't say it was never unjustified or unfair....but it happens way to offen. One would think women never ever did anything wrong or were at all demanding, unreasonable, petty, or less than bright......
No one 'always' or 'never's...men or women :-)
Oh and I don't believe I was "all in an uproar", just pointing out an observation.
Now back to the laundry with me :-)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I GUESS I could request to have the Internet taken away from me!
(((hands shaking badly)))

I am thinking I will get a written warning first RIGHT??? RIGHT??

Really though -
Course my manager will be disappointed in me either way! I have been here 9 years with a good work ethic.. This is really not like me!!!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

NC - I totally LOVE it when some DW has a puppy!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

You could (gasp) have DG blocked on your server at work.........................
Drastic measures :-)

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Simma down there! :) I didn't mean you as far as the "in an uproar" comment. But on my gardening club website threads get pulled all the time b/c the content gets so bad as far as arguing. And did ya read EVERYTHING I wrote...? The part where I generally classify women as whiny, gossipy and overly sensitive and how men aren't that way? See, I'm an equal opportunity basher. Oh, and man bashing isn't just on DG... it's in life in general! Funny you should say that "always and never" comment. It's one thing I try and make myself NOT say to my husband b/c it makes him so mad! The last time I said it he said "ok, you're right, I have NEVER ____." Fill in the blank as I can't remember exactly what I accused him of "never" doing. So I told him he was correct, but once in the past 6 years is minimal enough to qualify as "never." Now you get back to that laundry... that you NEVER do. :) LOL!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Me too Sequee!!!!

Rikerbear, REALLY drastic when you consider I have dial up at home!!! Stop laughing!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

One more thing - sometimes I will post something and 30 min later there's no answer and I wonder why. Then it occurs to me - DUH - they have a life, or are working - they aren't 'on' all the time. This is more like IM'ing to me than a thread sometimes!

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Dial up? Well no wonder! You can't help but stay on at work all the time! Yes, they will just have to cut you some slack at work... that's all there is to it. :)

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

You mean you're supposed to log off DG? I've never tried that! It's always on the toolbar waiting for me. This must be like going to an AA meeting. Every bit of 'testimony' is like somebody reading my mail! I stumble out of bed and turn on the computer before I make coffee, I've been known to sit here until noon in my nightgown, I check back several times a day. If there are no new postings on my Watch list, I begin to wonder if the whole lower forty-eight states have fallen victim to a terrorist attack.

I have to add, I always visit on Dave's while I run bathwater in the evening. The bathroom is right next door to our office, so I don't let it run over! However, I'm sometimes a little slow in climbing into the tub. I can tell you an old cast iron tub can hold hot bathwater for at least an hour!

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

My goodness you guys were busy while I went to lunch. Jaime, I say "here here" to avoiding the "whiny, gossipy and overly sensitive" women (see I can do it too Rikerbear!). That is much of the reason I have had more guy friends in my life than girl friends.

Control Freak, me? When I really get tired of going grocery shopping every week, I will gripe to my DH about it, and say "why don't you go for me?" Of course, in the back of my mind I am thinking "I don't want him to go really - he will do it wrong." Okay, I admit it! I am a control freak. Actually, I am constantly hearing that from my mother when I complain about having to do all I do. Of course, she does think I am way too young, at 26, to be dealing with all the stuff involved with that though.

And yes, I admit it I man bash with the previously mentioned friend. It's much better that we let off a little steam with each other instead of screaming at our respective DHs when they tick us off. My DF will even let me know when I am being unreasonable and vice versa since we are friends as couples. I know the guys occasionally gripe about us to each other too. LOL

NC, I get caught up in this website way too much while at work. If I had not been in this office for as long as I have, my boss might get frustrated. It's just me and him in this office and I have a very slow job and 75% of the time I am doing nothing work related. Plus at almost 8 years here, I can do things that need to be done quicker. He does know that when the busy work starts that I will drop my personal stuff, though.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Our bathroom is across from the office too... if DH comes home compaining I'm on the PC again, I can just stand in the hallway adjusting my clothes and voila, I'm not on the computer!! no way!! lol

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Unfortunately my computer at home is also up stairs in the hot bonus room! It will be moved down this winter though!!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

LOL You gals are SO funny!
Anyone have DG set as thier 'home page' yet???

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, I so did that a looong time ago! LOL
Seriously, I subscribed in March and finally made it my homepage at work in June or July. It would be at home to if my hubby would let me. I really don't get on nearly as much from home anyway, because I have more time here at work. Plus, my DH is always on at home surfing Linux news or ebay. :/ I could go upstairs to one of the kids computers, but it just isn't worth staring at their mess in the gameroom.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

DG as my Home Page! How do I do that?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Under 'TOOLS' click Internet Options.....enter www.davesgarden.com as your 'home page' :-)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

RIkerbear you are not helping!!!!!!!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

WHEW and I thought I was crazy, *S*
I check my mail, look for anyone with extra seeds, log off, think about something log back on, do all those things over again, check every Forum, dinner is now too cold so put it in Mic. to warm. log off, remember I owe an email. log back on, by this time it is 6 in the evening and time for dinner, guess what, warmed up lunch, cause I remember something I wanted to check. AGAIN

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Lessseee what's wrong with DG - nuttin' - absolutely nothing, which is why I click on the 'putor as I pass on my way to put on the coffee. By the time coffee's ready I've pulled up Dave's and the first cup is the 'watched threads'. The second is the garden tour.
SEE - the garden stroll used to be the first cuppa. Now I can't wait to see what I'm gonna learn on DG today.

and yes, how folks are doing with this or that project, if Trois has taken his morning walk and post yet, if GW has got her cupboards, If Monterey has snapped another hummer, if Maria is doing okay.
The list is longer than any other group of stranger friends could ever hope to be.

And along that line has anyone seen a post from LSP [Louisiana sweetpea] since all that rain fell outta that last TS? Maxine I think it was called. She lives below sea level out on the toe. Blooms

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Blooms, I've had a couple emails from LSP in the last 2 dats. No mention of problems.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Sorry NC :-p hehehehehe
