Welcome to the new Dave's Garden, version 2.0 :)

Blooms, try CTRL+Scrolling on your mouse and see if that helps. On my display, once it reaches a certain font size the font looks bold and it's easier to read.

gardenwife,
If you are not making several million dollars a year at your job, you should be. You have such a vast knowledge of EVERYTHING it just blows my mind.

Cameras, gardening, soap and any and all adjustments that anyone would ever need to make on their computer and you have the answer. Amazing.

Thanks for sharing your vast knowledge with us. I know if I read a post that has been submitted by you, I will learn something.
Thanks again,
Mike

Gardenwife, just did the Control/Scroll thing--what an improvement! Now all type is boldface and easier to read. Never knew that function. Mike is right, you should ask for a raise.

Glad to help! I just read a lot and know where to look for answers if I don't have them (and believe me, I don't have the answers for most things just off the top of my head!). I'm a homemaker right now, so the only way I get a raiseis if my DH does.

I knew there had to be a thread where I could say ...

"I love it"

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

darius, you and I are the only ones who like both rows of tab. We must be special, (~;

Yeah, I DO like the way that looks! A Minority of 2, LOL.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I also like both rows of tabs better than the way the bottom row is now. The tabs are easier to look at for me, but I can deal with it either way. I just love the new format and will be happy with what Dave chooses.

Oh, I wasn't "lobbying" for it... just like the looks.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I like it, too. Forgot to mention that.

TUCSON, AZ(Zone 9a)

well I do like the ided of the tabs on both rows. but like the others have said, I am happy with the new Looks!! thanks again for all the work you have done (but if we were to vote on it I would vote for tabs on both rows) hehehe

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Thank you, folks, for letting me know that I'm not alone in the wildernis, LOL.

Edited to promise I'll stop beating a dead bug now and forever keep my peace. Amen

I really like the new & improved 2.0 version. The tabs make it a lot easier to use. I've been reading with great interest everyone's remarks, input, and wonderful ideas. That's what makes DavesGarden.com, such an excellent website, "for gardeners....by gardeners"! I also prefer the older logo that gave a more warm, friendly, and homey feeling to this website. The new logo, IMHO, has a much more commerical feel & look to it.

A couple of ideas came to my mind & I want to see if they would be of interest to Dave & his gardening community of friends.

1. I love & look forward to the daily changing pictures. However, instead of placing them at the bottom of your home page, put them at the top, front & center. Instead of just 2 each day, how about 24 rotating pictures, for each hour of the day? Is it possible to place your mouse over the picture to see who the photographer is? Also, I would like to see a wider variety of pictures used from the various forums that are available at Dave's. That way, a visitor to your site will see the vast selection of forums to choose from.

2. Showing an ever changing seasonal collage would not only be visually appealing, but it would help to draw in even more casual visitors....for a closer look. Could this ever-changing seasonal collage be incorporated into the center of your banner? I'm not a computer whiz, so please forgive me if this is a ridiculous idea.

3. Besides daily rotating photographs in your header, how about monthly pictures, depicting the various gardening regions? As you can tell, I'm a VERY visual person. I truly feel that the more pictures you display taken "for gardeners....by gardeners", would create a more colorful & homey feeling, which we all love & seem to crave!

Sorry, if I over-stepped my bounds. I'm just thinking creatively out loud.

Shirley, you can determine where the photo displays on your homepage by going to Preferences > Customize Home Page. Have fun customizing! :)

Shirley, Just a couple of comments from the peanut gallery.

#1, you can put the fun random pictures anywhere YOU want them... Go to your Preferences, click on Customize Hoe Page.

#2, Seems to me there are many more than 2 photos a day, just don't know how many.

Midland, TX(Zone 8a)

Shirley is talking about getting some pix on our banner where visitors can enjoy, which is an echo of my (and others') sentiments. Do we want our banner to say something about who we are and what we're about? Now doesn't such as this just say it all?

Shirley, as to "Is it possible to place your mouse over the picture to see who the photographer is?". Yes, but you have to click the left button while you are there.
Enjoy.

Yes, I thought that was what she was intending in her #3, I just didn't have any comment. Just commented on her points #1 & #2.

Lovely Photo, Pennzer.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Sorry all, didn't make myself clear enough. Pennzer is correct in saying that I would like to see "revolving" (for lack of a better computer term) pictures taken by Dave's Gardeners, centered in the middle of the banner. Otherwise, there is a lot of open blue sky in the middle. Yes, the banner may have to increase in length to accomodate these extra photos, but wouldn't it be worth it?

Also, all the forums, surveys, birthdays, etc., would be pushed down further on the screen. Thereby eliminating a lot of "white space" that is now visible toward the bottom of the home page. Personally, I think that all the "white space" should be utilized, without being visually bombarding.

Ulrich, I've seen at another gardening website, that by just putting your mouse over the picture on that home page, will tell you whom the photographer is. All done without clicking.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

This thread is quite long, but I thought I should update you that there's more to come from Paul and his brothers. Back on the 12th I told you the boys were getting going on some work (especially fixing up a rent house we have) and were going to be a while playing around with other fun ideas. I want you to know I have NOT had them doing chores for several days solid!!

Paul and Dan got artist brother John going on a banner picture they thought would depict Dave's Garden, and also be conducive to variations showing different seasons. Already they've tried to rein in John on his attention to details, but his perfectionism can't be reined in entirely, so he's making progress, but rather slowly.

Meanwhile, ten-year-old James begs to have his logo idea -- Dave's Garden in stone with moss on it -- which he did in Flash -- posted. I say why not, after all, we're all enjoying the fun of creative interaction. A couple of weeks before school starts, so the fun continues.
