We uploaded logo #4 onto header #4. http://uberbooks.com/dg/stretch/

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I like that one best so far.

Not brassy, just classy. Good job Paul.

I like it, with ONE exception, The bottom type line of the logo straddles the green/blue demarcaion line on my monitor. Either higher or lower. Hard on the eyes to have the bottom line of type on the borderline.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

uggghhhh - I'm on high speed and it won't pull it up :(

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Paul, that's some slick work on the logos - really nice! I like banner #4, but it looks like the Microsoft XP desktop (perish the thought DG should in any way resemble a MS product, LOL!). Logos 2 and 3 are my favorites, but I'd like to see the what the old logo's font looks like with it.

Dea, is this the image one of these?

Beautiful, but no - it was the one of the picnic table and a sycamore I think - you and H were going to transition them from fall to summer to winter, etc.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Ooooh, Paul I see it now - very nice work - impressive !!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Nice work Paul,I like the look you are working on.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This one? http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=763454 I don't think we've gotten other shots of that little glen, but we can.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Yes - I was thinking - above - about the changing seasons.

Paul's stuff is really great - all this cogitating with everyone is just so super :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Got my thinking cap on here...Not a photo, but an idea.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Y'all need to remember, this is DAVE'S site and it just needs to please him, not us.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

171 replies later and darius hits a nail.......LOL

It is fun to play though. Cool combos, Paul and geeky bro!

Irving (Dallas area), TX(Zone 8a)

Is this better, Darius? http://uberbooks.com/dg/stretch/

Dave, if you want to play around with anything, I'll send you any of our images or html etc., that you want.

GardenWife, It does look a little like the Microsoft XP desktop image; really we were just trying to improve on the header that's there.

'DITTO' Darius ... thinkin' along those same lines myself!

Dave .. DG is your site! All of YOU that own the rights, etc. .. keep it/set things up
just the way you've designed and/or desire it to be .. The rest of us, will eventually
get over it. (hopefully so) ... hee hee ...

Just ever so proud to be a part of it all .. Thanks!

Pauk, it's better but would still read better if the green ground dropped down so all the logo was in the blue.

Kooger said: "Paul - you got me chuckling over #4 - looks like the opening to those blasted critters - TinkyWinky, Lala, Po and I forget the last one. LOL"

I think you're thinking of "Teletubbies" and Dan made a logo to go with that: http://uberbooks.com/dg/

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

That is SCARY FUNNY, Dan and Paul!!!

....scuffling off to find something to clean my monitor.......

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

OMG! I popped back in to see what was up and this is what I find? Too funny!

I like logos #4 and #1 take 2. nice work.

We will have to wait and see what Dave thinks.

This is great.

Sorry, but I don't like this one: http://uberbooks.com/dg/stretch/

It's too foo foo-ie (foo foo-y?)

I kinda like the logo that's in use now (or #'s 1, 2 or 3). I know someone said that the new logo looked too much like a cartoon, but anyone who visits and reads any of the forums knows that this is a place where serious gardening discussions take place and that a good deal of humor is splashed throughout the forums, too.

Personally, I think that the picture of Dave's face that's in the teletubbie logo should be used in the Dave's Garden logo somewhere since this IS his site. Maybe someone could take a picture of Dave leaning against a wall and then superimpose him into the logo so he is leaning against the "D" in Dave's Garden? Just a thought...

The logo in this one: http://uberbooks.com/dg/stretch/ is exactly what I was talking about earlier! The same recognizeable logo that "says" Daves Garden, but updated. Different colors would be perfectly okay if the "powers that be" decide on that, but the general idea of that with the brighter colors ~ perfect! Very appealing. GREAT job, Paul!

And I also like all your other ones, too! VERY nice! Especially the photo ones. I can't wait to see what you and your bro come up with re:Dave's idea of the changing seasons.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Whooo- Hoooo ! ! ! !

Luv it ! ! ! !

Perfect. Still has the flowering vine from the origional .... promotes a warmer, friendlier feeling.

IMHO

Paul and his geeky bro and another artsy bro have some more ideas in the works. Whether or not any of these creations prove useful, they're having a great time! But chores come first, so it'll be a little while! No end to the fun, Dave's Garden.

I love this new look graphic included. One question though. I love the blue on the forms page. Any chance you have it in the works to allow us to change to colors we want? I would love to have my home page that blue.

Making the colors customizable would be fairly trivial, but I'm just not sure that's what I want to do. Less than 2% chance of it happening, for a variety of (good) reasons. :)

Ahh come on Dave :-) No biggie the site looks great and if you dicide to add that some time great if not great.

Anyone for all tabs?

Yeah, I like the lower bar being tabs too.

Midland, TX(Zone 8a)

(Ahem)....Am I the only one who thinks the banner art is very non-garden? It's a grassy plain--not at all what we're about. Paul, Dan--love the logo work you geeks have done, but couldn't we play around some more with the banner? If I'm the minority here, just throw something at me, and I'll go back to just lurking.

I never cease to be amazed by the quality of photography on some of these forums. I love the featured photos on the home page, but I would think the casual visitor to the site might not scroll down to the photos, and even if he did, he might not click to enlarge, and even if he did, he would be taken to the forum and would have to click again to see the enlargement, and even if he did that, he would be told he can't see the enlargement unless he is a paid member--am I right about that?

Is there a way we could incorporate the featured photos into the banner and allow non-subscribers to get a hint of the visual treasures that await their delight inside the forums? These could maybe be large enough to appreciate without enlarging, and maybe several of them side by side to fill out the horizontal space to the right of the logo. These photos could be changed maybe weekly--or even at the whim of the site administrator. They could be seasonably appropriate, at least as to how seasons are experienced by a majority of readers.

Real photos by real gardeners. Doesn't that speak graphically and beautifully of what we are all about? And the ever-changing nature of such a banner would be so much more alive than a static, never-changing charicature or clip-art type graphic. Perhaps the type of framing of the photos could be the permanent part of the banner--tied in with the logo, perhaps, if you feel we need that sort of continuity--but wouldn't the photo idea make for a more dynamic and more realistic visual of who we are and what we contribute and what a visitor can expect within our pages? And wouldn't it be beautiful (or whimsical), and wouldn't it be the type of beauty (or whimsy) that we all appreciate, or we wouldn't be here.

JMO!

Dave, Pen's post has some merit, but made my mind wander to a spot on the banner that had a thumbnail of the Fun Random Photo. Don't know if it's do-able, but would certainly add interest (and maybe enticement) for the non-subscriber.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

That was my idea...waaaaa! LOL

See my post in this thread August 11 at 2:28.

But I gave it away yesterday so its free ; )

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Daisy, guess I missed reading it. Sorry.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh my- you think that I have read this whole thread? LOL I only know what I write and the rest is a blur when they get this long!!!!

Pen, you write with a fine pen. Well worded and a very clear idea of your sentiments. I just so happen to agree with your rather astute three paragraphs.

C'mon - this season thing is so easy.... It's ALWAYS spring or summer somewhere in the world and something's *always* green and growing and flowering somewhere in the world of Dave's Garden..

It's what keeps me going when it's freezing and the flowers are dead.
{that and running to Orange County Cal, where it IS always green and flowering..}

I gotta go see what's left with the old logo on it.

If nothing else could you *please* make the letters [font?] a little fatter - this print hurts my eyes and I AM wearing my readers. Blooms
