brenda's aka langbr needs a best friend

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Nope...Wanda, If I need to have something growing in my garden in order to buy a friend, I won't get any :-( I don't have anything extra. I just thought maybe Brenda's husband would let me have her and I'd send him MY husband. They both like Radio Control stuff and my DH is an engineer so I thot they'd get along pretty good.

And as for that bath! Do you think *that* might help? LOL LOL Whuda thunk...water and a little zest :-p

BIG GRINS

(Who, right now is too tired from rearranging pots in the garden to worry about stinkin' ) ;-)

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Julie - Pat would love to have someone around with his interests instead all "them flowers and stuff"! He always says it like I'm from another planet or something. That's ok....he says I get this glazed over look in my eyes when he talks planes! LOL!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Brenda..LOL...I *knew* it! My DH is *exactly* the same. So, do we have a deal? :-D :-D

~julie~

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

LOL!!! Julie, too funny!! I figure the RC-glazed eyes are a universal condition for RC wives!! (Hey! a rhyme!)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Ahhhh...that makes me feel *much* better! :-D

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Just looking at this old thread & thought I'd bump it.

I'll be Brenda's friend! I can be "bought" for assorted lily bulbs you're tossing my way....

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Hmmmm.....me thinks (once again) my eyes are bigger than my gardens so I might have some extra bulbs up for grabs in a few weeks when the orders start pouring in.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

You know we're always here for you... ;)

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

see, Moby can be bought for bulbs too! ha ha

Wanna trade? (Opening raincoat---psst. Got some hot iris roots...) :)

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Yeah, I'll just bet you do. And I'll also bet they are 'hot'. Can't fool me, I know how easy they are to steal! Did I just say that?? shhhh...

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Let me see--a flashlight, a pitchfork and a garden address....

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

franklin

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Oh no! Everyone is getting in on it! Brenda can get all kinds of friends if she bribes us....

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

he he he he he ...that's the idea, Wanda.

~julie~

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Bribes? Did I hear best friends for a bribe? I make nice creamy smooth fudge. Anyone interested in being my best friend?

I NEED some lily bulbs. Not that I want them of course. I just NEED some.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Oooooo, I can talk fudge...creamier the better...mmmmmm

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Langbr can borrow Jethro my big goat for a best friend. !

He is very sweet, eats alot, smiles and sticks his tongue out to be cute, pees on your shoe if you are not careful....

charlotte

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL ...Charlotte...I haven't thought about those little Buck characteristics for a long time. (But did you forget how BAD they SMELL?? Brenda really might not want a new best friend quite *that* bad!
:-D )

~julie~

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

You guys are so mean to me! sniff-sniff

What did I ever do to deserve such treatment! sniff--sniff

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Awwwww....But Brennie...we just want to be your new best friends...

~julie~

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Brenda, I wud stil lak to bee yor fren... ;)

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Brenda, I am insulted. Jethro is a wether...he does not stink and he is quite particular about his friends.

However, I will forgive you.... one with only cow manure for a friend should not be so choosy....

ROFLMBO!! long hard day toiling in the gardens all afternoon in mid-80 temps. I come in exhausted to this thread! You guys just crack me up! I keep wondering....."if they're like this in Sept. what are they gonna be like by mid-January when winter doldrums have set in?" I think I'm in LOTS of trouble!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Brenda, I think you have a very valid point there. If we're like this now, cabin fever is gonna be ugly! Or we may be in a complete stupor, hard telling...

Pleasant Grove, UT(Zone 6a)

I think by mid January cow manure will be everyone's best friend! LOL

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Missed this thread first time around, and don't know what to offer, as cow manure is any gardener's best friend. Just used my last sack of the stuff in the hole for the rose bush I planted this afternoon.

Tomorrow I'll look around to see what I could offer as I could use a best friend. One of mine just had to move back east to help care for her mother.

Yep, I had two. Now there's the one. Could use another. ~Blooms

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

That's a bummer, Blooms. Can't have too many...
Cyber-hugs to you from your cyber-friend, Mary

Pleasant Grove, UT(Zone 6a)

Oh, that is a bummer, Blooms. I've had close friends move away, too, and it's just the pits. Just know you've got a circle of friends here at DG to talk to and we'd all be willing to send you some cow manure or pretty plants to add to your circle of friends at home. :)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

ROTFLMBO too! I needed THIS thread right now.

~julie~

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Clairelise, Sending Brenda flowers is no problem. I wonder if the cow poop would be considered hazardous. ? I've spent so much on flowers this summer that I can not afford alot of extra postage costs. However, if cow poop is Brendas best friend she doesnt need anymore !

Heaven forbid....she may decide to share it with us !

Bet my plants would love it and not be insulted at all !!!

charlotte

P.S. Tomorrow is my birthday..guess what I dont want for a present? phew...

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Happy Birthday a day early, Charlotte! Take Jethro for coffee...he'd LOVE it! (Oh and sorry for the "smelly" remark...my bucks weren't wethers...and there's NO way anyone would want to be in the same county with them. LOL)

~julie~

Klamath Falls, OR(Zone 6a)

I, for one, vote for Jethro to be Brenda's best friend. Read what the Extension Goat Handbook (1992) says about his poop.

" For gardening, goat manure can be a real asset. In their naturally
dry, pelleted state, goat feces are easily handled, stored or directly
applied on vegetables, trees, and flower gardens, as mulch, organic
matter, fertilizer, or just to increase the water holding capacity of
the soil; and goat feces do not normally attract flies or breed
maggots. A daily raking or sweeping of the goat yard keeps the goats
clean and free from parasites; and the garden will soon show its
appreciation."

Now, certainly nobody can make such claims about cow manure in its fresh, uncomposted state. And the cost of buying bags and bags of the stuff is prohibitive to all but the most wealthy of us. Whereas, Jethro could, for the price of a few bags of grain and a few bales of hay, excrete on a daily basis as much of the aforesaid 'brown gold' as Brenda would ever need, or for that matter, want. Plus, she wouldn't ever have to worry about flies and/or maggots, as an added bonus.

No, I see no way around it at all. Jethro is da man! Errr, Jethro is da goat! And, after all, have none of you heard the old adage A goat is a woman's best friend? If you haven't, just ask Charlotte...she'll tell ya.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

If I told Jethro that Brenda had peanuts for him - he would probably run all the way to Kansas.

:)

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

GOAT POOP!! I forgot! We had 100 doe milking herd. When we sold the herd, the little "pasture" (read that 150' X 150' lounge area) was the absolutely BEST "lawn" in the whole neighborhood! Let me tell ya...goat poop RULES!! No kidding!

Brenda...borrow Jethro for langbr's best friend...and you know what...it decomposes MUCH faster that bull poop. :-D

~julie~

Charlotte....Peanuts??? That's a new one on me. LOL

Klamath Falls, OR(Zone 6a)

Don't forget to mention ~julie~ that it doesn't burn the plants if used straight from the horse's mouth....uh....I mean straight from the goat's rear end.

So, debi_z, since Jethro meets all the qualifications and other than the occasional lily or iris bulb or piece of fudge trying to sneak in, you really haven't had many serious applicants, you have to admit. We charter members of the Caprines Make Caring Companions Club respectfully request that you accept his application without further delay (and stock in loads of peanuts) because he undoubtedly has other offers to consider and langbr could well lose him to some other lonely heart seeking love in all the wrong places along with a constant source of soil ammendment.

Go Jethro!!!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

LOL... Have peanuts and luv to share...

Better hope dablaw doesn't see this and KID-nap Jethro as he runs to Nebraska. Or course, Brenda can have visitation rights as she is only 3 hours away!

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL with sharvis!!! Caprines? I haven't *seen* that word since my last Goat Journal!
Here, Here!!! I think Jethro WINS hands down!! :-D

Charlotte gets custody, though....We'll ALL send peanuts! (Watch out for that next trade, Charlotte. hehehe)

~julie~
Peanuts...I wonder if there's an Iris by *that* name...and I wonder if looks like Halloween! :-D

Pleasant Grove, UT(Zone 6a)

So, Brenda, do you concur with this ruling? And don't forget we'll always be here for you if you get tired of conversing with the goat! LOL

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Well shucks....I'm dumbfounded...speechless...just in awe of the extensive list of reasons why Jethro should replace my DH!!! Jethro is even handy in the garden!! Oh my, and I doubt there will be any complaining about what's for dinner each evening. I won't have to tell him to pick up his clothes or put down the seat either!

He sounds like a swell guy and I'd be delighted to call him my friend!

Now the question is....of course until Jethro arrives.....can one buy goat poop at large surburban centers I wonder?

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Jethro is a good friend to have and he wont talk back or spend money on dumb stuff like guns or golf clubs. He may pee on your foot if you forget and stand with it under his belly ! He is not too pickey about what he eats but dont trust him in the lilly patch. He likes lettuce, peanuts (shell and all), and canteloup rinds. He is a little lacking in the conversation area but since he doesnt talk back I figure that is a good trade off.

Goat manure is wonderful for all your gardening adventures though, no kidding.
