Dee, either that is 1 huge blossom or you have tiny hands! LOL
Donna
Beautiful, Delicate Morning Glories
Donna this flower was big, it was 5 and a half inches across. There are a lot more buds on this one and I should have more pretty pictures of it tomorrow or the next day. I having some problems getting photos to up load the past few days....anyone else with the same problems??
Has anyone seen this thread and if so any ideas which one it is??? http://davesgarden.com/t/431995/#new
Dee
yes me.....have not been able to upload pictures in the roses Forum at all the last couple of days, especially today I tried at least 6-8 times until I gave up,
Brigitte
I think that is what it is. I got it at the master gardener plant sale.
I hope some of you might know the answer to this question. Most of my Japanese MG that are blooming are not setting seed. Not even the Chocolate Silk, Pink or Blue Picotee, or the Sunrise Mix. None are setting seeds. Any ideas why or what can be done about it.....
:o(
Dee
Dee, maybe it is just too early for them to start producing seed heads?? Anyone else in your area growing mg's and if so, are theirs producing seed? With your longer growing season, perhaps it just takes longer for them?
Flicker, lovely shot, I have one growing in a container, yet to see a bloom, but patience I have learnt here LOL
Pam!!! That is a gorgeous one too. I am up to true leaves now LOL, soooooooooooo someday I will also have some blooms if the wind and rain storms would ever quit here.
They all look wonderful!!
Laurrie

Dee, you've heard of Sex in the City. Now you need to learn about Sex in the Garden... You may need to do a little risque pollination yourself. lol
Beautiful picture Flicker! Gotta love them blues....
Laurrie - the Chocolate Silk is at WW's - I just get the credit for snapping the shot....lol. When yours start blooming it will be well worth the wait.
I thought I read somewhere that some MG's need to be pollinated by hand or by nature.....
pins - yep, pollen was flying in WW's garden today with that "paintbrush tickler".....lol.
Geez, that flower is huge! I am impressed!
Oh, and MG's are self pollinating, they have both pieces of equipment in each flower, so even if you tie off each bud like I do before they even open, you are gonna get seeds. I would not give up Dee, I think the Jap MG's are slower anyway. I have not even started getting any blooms on them yet, even though I planted at the same time as my regular ones & they have been blooming for a while now.
Donna
Oh !! I am so envious. I absolutely love morning glories and haven't even gotten mine planted yet. I did manage to do a trade with a lady from China for a couple variety's of morning glory seeds, I guess I had better get busy. I did just plant to five gallon pots of Blue Dawn against
our back fence which is a stone sound wall. It should look pretty here shortly. I saw my first bloom on it a couple day's ago. I better get busy on the rest of my morning glory's.

Girls yall need to look closely at the Choclate Silk Mutation, (or some other cross not quite sure just yet), Moonlighting posted. It was up to high for us to get a picture of so I picked it and held it for Moon to get a good shot at. This flower was about 7-8 inches across, yes it was as big as it looks, I'm holding it with both hands. Most of them on that side are really big like that ...just thought you would want to know.....Sure wish I knew which one of you I got those seeds from.....
:o)

Holy Moly.. it is soooo big.. Wow.. what a wonderful picture of that chocolate silk.. envious here too. wating patiently for mine to grow.
I want to make a floating wall, made with netting. It will be on a angle with the vines exploding out through it. of red cardinal climbers mg 10 or 12 ft long using these. What can I expect of the seeds getting plants. The saucers have popped about 50 per cent so far. The red ones had a total of about 35 seeds. I don't need that many, do half that?

Willow,
Your May 15th, 9:56 PM Post is
Shiun which means "Purple Clouds"
It is deep purple w/ lighter purple throat and a few white edges
Thanks so much TLC, I added your information to that post. I appreciate your looking to find it for us...
:o)
Dee
Cardinal vines and cypress vines have such small fines leaves (cypress is finer than cardinal). I think it is according to how thick you want it.

I want to see your plants on the netting Monterey!
I have faith there will be lots of pictures! *snickers*
/one picture taking fool talking to another picture taking fool
Snapped this picture this morning. This is the first bloom on this plant and I noticed that this bloom was having a little trouble unwrapping itself. I can see the beauty thru the defect tho. It's Heian no Yoso-oi. This bloom is very big - can't wait to see how big the others are.
**edited to add: I measured this bloom and it's almost 5" across.

WOW, that is so pretty WW! It is so blue that it zapped me thur the monitor and now I can't quit looking at it!!!!!!!....lol.
Really enjoyed looking at all the beautiful MG pictures. I have quite a few planted but they are just beginning to grow outside where I planted them earlier. We have finally gotten some rain. That is why I had a few minutes to sit down at the computer, it is wet outside,. I have had a couple of small pink MG blooms but that is all so far. Donna
Those are all gorgeous!!! is the electric blue Hatsu Arashi? Glorious whatever it is. And the Yosaooi is very inspiring too :)
Laurrie I think it is Hatsu but it is down the river bank where I would not have planted it and no tag. I think it is a survivor of the Armadillo raids as I told Moon. Hatsu is what it looks like from all the photos I've seen. It is bigger than the one earlier and has not a hint of purple in it. But of course it is planted totally different, this one is in almost full sun most of the day and the first one posted is in total shade all day...This bloom is the second or third, as that is the evidence I see on the plant, just didn't see it until the other day and then couldn't get a photo until now.
Oh and I am beginning to find that my Sunrise Mix and Chocolate silk are begining to set seeds so I guess I was jumpin the gun a little. The pods are to big to be from my hand pollinating the other day. I guess me and Moon just didn't look close enough.... I also see tons of these little tiny black ants all over the MG's so I am guessing they are helping things along. I didn't see them the other day either....LOL...better get me some new glassess
LMK whatcha think.... :o)
Dee
Correction from Moonlighting......this blue one is Akatsuki Umi "Sea".
and she said.....LOL....
Your blue is Akatsuki Umi "Sea"......Hatsu doesn't have var. leaves. http://davesgarden.com/fp.php?pid=630141

Yeah, setting seeds, that is wonderful for you and all the traders who are waiting. LOL. Ants could do the trick I think. and yes I think that is Hatsu

L
Somehow I missed Moons last post, maybe we were posting at the same time........Wow Moon I want some of those Yasooi seeds, Wow thats pretty. Think I had some but not sure if I planted them or not guess I better check, I'm gonna have to drop by and take a look at your stuff again...... ;O)
Mom/Dee
WW - I think we can work out a trade....lol.

The only thing the ants do on my MG's is plant aphid to farm. Filthy buggers! Glad your setting seed, Dee. Big relief, huh? Oh, and by the way, can you send me a nice big box of that armadillo "fertilizer" that your usin to get those big flowers? HARHARHAR
Donna
LOLOL Donna....I told her about your suggestion on those canna seeds - ROTFL - and she didn't see the humor in it like we did.....I told you she adores those dang plants!.....ROTFLMAO!
Donna, you'll be getting a box stuffed full of dead armadillo to use as fertilizer!....LOLOLOLOL.
Glad to hear the last nights "mission" was successful, but don't you DARE send me that! LOLOLOL Dee, if you see her skulking around in your backyard with a priority box, put some buckshot in her rear! LOLOLOL
You crack me up.
