Gosh Laurrie you just busted my bubble, though for sure you would have a clue of what this one might be....LOL.... I did tag it so I wouldn't forget what it was. Guess I'll have to print out a photo to put on the seed packs to have something to compare it to, and see what it is next go round....do you think it will produce true?
:o)

Beautiful, Delicate Morning Glories
It does have similar characteristics of the purple flaked looking tie dye ones? Wonder if it snuck in the packet, OR, if possible if it could have crossed from a tie dye and silk???? Either way it is adorable! Are the others planted with it the silk blooms look normal? if so, it is possible any seeds from this could be crossed again and revert back, however, one way could be to snip off all the petals so nothing can "crawl" in and pollinate, but by now may be to late for that. If you happen to have more blooms, (after you take pics of course) snip off the petal part but leave the innerds, then put hose or a baggie over it to keep it, then try it again if you dare and see what happens with it, good luck, could prove very interesting indeed!!!!
Hi Snipper and all - What type of morning glories are you looking for? Just other colors? Or the fancy ones these folks have here? I may have some other colors (nothin' fancy though) or can keep an eye out. Last year was my first attempt and I have a lot of seeds but need to check viability if you're interested. Last year was my first try and I have quite a few seeds. Lots of purples, but also some lighter colors - fuschia, light pinks, white, and even a very few pale blue. (I don't know enough yet to know if they'll even come up the same colors.)
Breezy, this is one that was planted with the chocolate silks, it is on its own vine and has not bloom off the Chocolate Silk vine. There are others on now, this one is just begining to bloom. I will take your advice and get some covered before they are cross polinated. This is a really pretty one and so far the other 2 that bloomed looked pretty well the same. So it's possiable it is a Tye Dye that got mixed in but it is still kinda unusual....I'm gonna try and hang on to it and get as many seeds of it as I can. Maybe we have something new maybe not.... :o)
Dee
Hi,
not trying to 1 up Breezy, but an easier way to prevent cross pollination is to just use a twisty tie that comes on bread & tie the bloom shut before it opens or if your like me & get up at the buttcrack of dawn, you can do it then before the critters are stirrin.
Donna
I love the expression "buttcrack of dawn". I thought it was only a Southern term. lol
hahah Pudgy you are totally right there!
Dee I think I found where it came from, I sent you an email LOL
Laurrie I will e-mail you later....I am looking at what you sent and finding translation....LOL...TTYL... :o)
Dee
LOL I know what you mean! I was wondering if these could be some seeds I had sent Pam? I know I sent her some cool ones and perhaps some got mixed along with the move from here to Pams and then your place???? Just a thought. Either way, they are totally cool, keep the pics coming, I know it keeps me going seeing those while mine are just seedlings!!
I tell you between the Armadillos and Squirrels I'm gonna commit harry karry, if they aren't digging it up they are eating it. Geez what's a person to do.....this one bloomed this morning and would you belive the tag is missing, I've spent the morning looking for the package and now can't find that......aruggggg. It is one of my Japanese MG and now I don't know what it is. I'm sure one of you out there does though....."Laurrie"......"Donna"....."Pam" one of you is bound to have this one......
:o) Edited to add this from Twin Lakes Cheif:

Great thread! Mine are blooming now but by the time I get to them for a picture the wind has whipped the heck out of them and turned them ugly! Will post some later.....
Dee,
I think the Sun Smiles have the white edging, did you get those?
http://davesgarden.com/fp.php?pid=749976
Here is my new favorite. The Split Personality. I had not even heard of it before this year but apparently it has been available.
Donna
Hi Pam, hope that wind quits whipping them so you can get some shots fo them!!!
Donna, that is a gorgeous photo, can only imagine what the "others" will look like huh? ;)
sigh - ohhhhhhhhhhhh, these are so very beautiful. Even though I had the co-op earlier this year, I didn't get a chance to plant any - hope to plant a few before I go back to Ireland so that Doug can enjoy them. In the meantime, keep sharing the pictures so I can live vicariously through you.
Hoping with some of my pending trips I can find some seeds to send back to you folks.
All the best~
Sandra
Hi Sandra!!!! I hope you can get some planted too, need any, I have a few left over from planting I can send with ya ;)
Pam, wowowowowowowoow, is that Izumi? or Umi? whatever it is it sure is a pretty one, see, now I wish I lived near you all cuz mine would be blooming toooo.
Donna, you'll have to snap pics to add here for us to see too :)
Laurrie
Beautiful glories. I'm enjoying all of these great pictures while I wait for mine to grow.
WW your MG photos are so inspiring. I finally have all mine planted in the ground but a long way from any blooms yet here in zone 5. Donna
I planted 7 different varieties about 3 weeks ago after soaking them overnight. So far only 2 of one variety and 1 of another have sprouted, and I live in zone 9a. I'm beginning to think maybe the birds ate the seeds. Three of the varieties were the ones I got from the mg co-op, 3 varieties I got from Ohiobreezy, and 1 variety from Brugie. Do you think there is any chance of them still coming up? MG seeds have always sprouted for me in about 3 days in the past.
Sad to say - after three weeks - well, you may be right about the birds, if you're sure they were viable and they were nice and wet. Does anyone know of any MGs that take longer than a few days to germinate? I've had to replant a few times myself.
For me - Usually 2-3 days to germinate. I've been successful with the Deno method in the paper towel - I always want to see which ones are going to germinate.
Minigrannie,
I would say to not give up. I have noticed that same thing with the Jap. MG's. Some of mine took 5 weeks & I had about given up, when finally they broke through. Give it longer.
Donna
I'm glad you shared that - I went back and read a little more and there sure are some that claim to take a while. I'm going to be a little more patient now I guess. Thanks.
Thanks for the info. I think nearly all the ones I planted are Japanese varieties, so maybe there is still hope. The seeds should have been viable, since most of them were from the mg co-op and the rest of you who have planted them are having good luck.
Very pretty bloom rylaff :)
I planted some of my Japanese MGs early in the house. A few of them are maybe 12 to14 inches high. It's been too chilly to put them out with this goofy weather. Cold one day, Hot the next. Now I see I have maybe 4 or 5 of them with buds. One has had 2 pink spoked flowers already, and another a very deep purple with white edging. I think it is a Yoshiro mix. There are buds on a few others. Can I still try to ease them into the ground without interrupting the flowering cycle?
DJM, You should be able to as long as you disturbe the roots as little as possiable. I have dug some up in large clumps with almost all the roots in tack and they were all fine....just take care and all should be well.... :o)
Dee
I had been told that MG's could not survive transplanting & that worried me. I use the 98 cell starting trays & I had 2 trays of MG's sprouting when I was told this. I was sweating it, thinking I has just killed 196 MG seedlings. I went ahead & let them get big enough to transplant & when I pulled the plugs up they had a very good root system. I planted them up & I did not loose a single one.
Rylaff,
that is sooooo pretty!
Donna
Thats encouraging! I may wait til tomorrow, only going to be 52 today. I hope they get a bit taller, but perhaps when they are out, they will. thanks for the info!
djm - 'Sure IS chilly this morning. Luckily this dreary, rainy weather is probably just what you need for that transplanting to minimize the shock. I transplanted some perennials last week when we had that hot weather and they're not very happy right now.
That is a thought. Maybe I will try and slip a few in the ground later this afternoon when it dries out a little. Worth a try!
Here is some info for all you MG transplanters....I dug up 3 of my MG's (about 2 weeks ago) out of the yard (planted them elsewhere) and ALL survived. MOF the picture I posted above is one of them blooming right now after the transplant.
Something I noticed when I dug them up was that everywhere along a stem where it had been touching the dirt (or dirt fell on top of the stem/runner) it had grown roots - thus leading me to believe that MG's can be rooted via cuttings, or at least air layered.
Another observation is that these fellas tend to like it on they shady side. I dug the 3 up because I had planted them in full sun and I noticed they were dying a slow death - so I dug them up and transplanted them in semi-shade and within a few days they started putting on new growth. The are doing great where they are at now.....
Thjanks so muc h for the information! I haven't transplanted mine yet due to bad weather, and I would have put them in a sunny spot. So I have a nice shaded spot for them. Maybe later today. Just had a storm with 60 mile winds a little over an hour ago, but looks like a nice cloudy day for transplanting if we don't expect any more rain!~
This is the first to bloom from Sbars Co-op. This is Akatsuki no Beni
...Belive me I have been guarding this one day and night.... LOL.....I have about 3 photos to post showing different angles and stages or comparisons.....this is a remarkable flower and soooo big. I don't have small hands and this one would just about cover it up.....
While your waiting to see all the photos of this one check this out on e-bay...and the quanity also....http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4303948247&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1 :o)
Dee
I had first missnamed this one and Moonlighting brought it to my attention. With the squirrels and Armadillos I will have to pay more attention since some of my tags may be switched...

Dee, yours are beautiful!! I am so ready for mine, however, lol, they are just now getting true leaves!@!!! Patience!!!! I have a hard time with that one.
I have the Hatsu Arashi growing now, I did a swap with the "ebay" seller last fall. and so far they are coming up nicely, when they produce I will share photos as well.
Laurrie
Looks like Chocolate Silk, is it rylaff? That is my favorite so far, it is such a soft Mauve color and the blooms are really big. Keep us posted on any MG's you get blooming.....
Hope yours bloom soon Breezy, I know it's sooo hard to wait on them but they are worth every minute....
This is the bloom of the one I just posted with my hand for comparison, it will give you an idea of size. I tried to post it earlier but the computer kept crashing..... :o)
