Gourd if you can on your camera, on auto-focus see if there is a little box (read about af mode)It closes down when in focus. Set the camera so it beeps when it is in focus. Make sure you are not zoomed out on close-ups hit the micro button. For farther away shots make sure it's not on micro. Mine has a little yellow flower to show it's in micro. the beep for the focus really helps . This shot was in the dark. I had to use a flashlight to set the focus. Once it sets then frame and shoot.Yes1 Always re-read the manual. Everytime I do, I learn something, or remember something I forgot.Good luck.

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

My Goodness, miss a few days on here & the posts just ROLL in! Awesome pics you guys! I am drooling. I have a new one blooming this morning, is supposed to be a fringed or something, but it is not open yet & all I can tell is that it has an extra row of small petals around the base. I will watch for it to open all the way & post a better pic. Will try something artful, Monterey. I think I will swing my legs over the top of the fence, hang upside down in an ever so graceful pose, and snap away! HARHARHAR I will do you proud, friend. (did I tell you I have baby blue hibiscus?)
Gourd, I am so happy that your seeds are sprouting for you already! YIPPIE! And Dee, your cross poll. shot is wonderful.

Donna that is going to be a real beauty, can't wait until it opens....Is it pink picotee or what.... :o) What baby blue Hibiscus do you have? Can you post a picture of it too, is it blooming now?
Dee

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Dee,
I looked on my list & the seeds were sold to me as mixed feathered. There were only like 6 seeds if I recall, but the colors were pink, purple & white. A crap shoot as to which colors I will end up with. I saved the pics from the auction, so I will have a comparison once this bloom opens.
The blue hibiscus seedlings that I have are from Monterey. No flowers yet, they are just babies. Wonder if I will get flowers first year? Hmm. Hope so.
Donna

Stockton, CA(Zone 9a)

Well,
I think this flower is opened as much as it is going to. The sun is nearly upon it & time is up. Sadly, about the only thing that looks like the ebay picture is the bottom row of petals. There are not multiple, seperated petals as I expected. Maybe future blooms will be more what they are supposed to be. Positive attitude and all that. LOL

And another from the top, showing the bottom row of petals

Donna was this a double pink or something like split personality? Did it have a name? Is this the first flower, if it is than don't dispare some of them get better. Course some don't.....LOL
Dee

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

Dee, Donna had bought these as a mix of white, pink and purple "feathered", that is what they were called, but as you see from her photo's they aren't "exactly" as her photo or the photo she bought from looked like. That is what she was trying to explain :) I like the shot where it is NOT opened much, pretty cool looking!!

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

The shot of mine is Blue Dawn . It seems to be violet dawn I guess. Maybe I have to wait too. It should be called Faded Denim. I'll start a flower pants company " You'll look your best in Faded Dawn Pants"

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

So what is the name of this one?

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Angle shot. Different view.

Thumbnail by RichSwanner
Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Well I think we all appreciate all the different angles and such but many don't show the full flower. That can lead to confussion in IDing flowers others may have. I do know there is a contest starting this summer and good and unusual photos count then. Just right now I would like to see the flower as it is at least one full face shot so I know if that's what I have or not.
So Monterey what is the last flower you posted? Is it a MG, do you have a name for it...Thanks ..... :o)
Dee

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, I did two posts up. It is called Blue Dawn (morning Glory) but it is coming out that violet color instead of blue. I just thought it was strange because I remember it having the blue and than turning to violet. I don't seem to have that change happening.Ipomoea indica is the Latin name. Family Convolvulaceae. It's a perennial. This is how it used to bloom then it would go to the other color.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey Donna, I bought those seeds too off ebay - they were a mix of pink, white and purple and they were called "Feathered". Glad you posted yours and I agree it looks better closed.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

So Monterey this one changes color during the day? Did it start out with the first few flowers blue and then later blooms had the ability to change color where the first ones didn't?
I am asking this question because I think in some of my

Morning Glories, the first flowers were a little different colored first blooms and later blooms changed. Some blooms were smaller and some larger. So I am thinking as these age they can change flower shape as well as color....
Moonlighting has a photo of my Blue star that has Pink in the large folds. This color was not in any other blooms when it first began to bloom. This is a new development..
Any othe ideas on this....
Dee

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

It started the same color. I have not had blue. Do you think that's the answer. Just wait?

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Blue Star with pink....

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Your shots are showing so much more. Did you notice when you have a light flower's beautiful hue set again a corse dark object, how much it brings out the color. Great job ! It's hard to improve on beauty, but so much fun to try. Does your camera have a white balance setting for shade? Does it have a setting that changes hue(b/w, chrome, standard) In shade or sun try chrome and always use white balance shade for shade. It works better than auto(makes things to blue). Good luck your on your way! Name of that beauty?

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

My camera has a ton of settings but I just point and shoot. Sometimes they come out good - sometimes they don't. If they don't come out good I just point and shoot again (beauty of digital)...lol. The name of that MG is "Blue Star".

Citrus Heights, CA(Zone 9b)

Check your manual. There is alot of good things there. Shoot some flower notice the true color. Take a bunch of shots using different settings for each shot. When you check them later find what works best and write it down . When that same shot appears again you will know what to do. Things like morning glories, and more in my case passion flowers have a short image life. If you know when to shoot, settings etc. You will be sure and get THAT SHOT! Get it once and it's forever

This matter has been brought to the attention of Dave and staff, I am sure they have it under control, I will just let them do what they do best, and probably better than I could ever hope to do.
Laurrie :)
