Chocolate for everyone who wants it :) Coca-Cola for me!
Are you ready Ohio????
Howie asked when the plant sale was last night, saying he wants to be sure to budget some money for a few flats. I love that man! I am lousy with budgeting - I'd have just said, "Oh, my gosh...the sale's this weekend."
What kind of perennial do they offer? and which day are we looking at? I'm getting Spring Fever!!!!!!
They offer all kinds of things, Celia! Take a look at my list from 2001 to get an idea of the variety of stuff they might have: http://davesgarden.com/j/viewentry/5738/
Maybe we can do a mini plant-swap that day too. I usually have extra plants to give away in spring. It is too early to tell now but I will probably have hellebores and oriental poppies looking for homes.
Are you all planning to meet on the Friday, April 9? We might try to make it again this year. It was so cold last year and we did not arrive there till almost 10 am. My hands were frozen as I gathered those 4 packs. It will be nice to see old friends and meet new ones. Lupy, are you back in circulation?
The best day, selection-wise, is probably going to be Friday (though we've gone on Saturday and still had plenty of plants when we've come home). The only thing is, Howie and I usually sleep until Noon due to his work hours. There's a chance he could switch to 3rd shift again (if they offer enough cash!) in which case he'd get off at 8am and we'd just head into Columbus right then!
No, I'm not back in circulation yet, just peeked in here again.
I have my nametag still from KY. Kimberley made them for us, I am sure she will be happy to share her pattern!
About which day: Friday it is a MADHOUSE at DeMonye's. Either you get there early, or you park a few miles away and hike to the nursery. Jam-packed.
Saturday mornings usually the same; by Saturday afternoon it isn't too crowded, but by then most of the plants they have few of are gone. On the other hand, they don't put everything out on Fridays; they often hold some things back for Saturday and Sunday. Just a gamble, whatever day you go.
I ought to be trying hard to get back into circulation on Sunday 3/21 -- a week from today is Steve's last Final exam; then our Gantz Symposium is Saturday. Yikes! And I still haven't finished my fall clean-up out in the garden. Well, maybe it will be done by May? How about June! LOL
Gosh, I'd love to give an opinion on which day but....well, I'm still pregnant! LOL If I came on Saturday, hubby and the kids could come with me and I wouldn't have to go by myself. Then of course, I could bribe Mystic into riding along on Friday, I am fairly sure. ;) Wonder if she can take off work? I guess I'll sit back and see what you kids decide on and go from there.
Where exactly is Reynoldsburg? Just occured to me, I have no clue. :)
Reynoldsburg is the far east side of Columbus, right next to Whitehall where kc8lcw lives.
I'm flexible with when we go/meet. They don't have much parking there at all! I'm not an early riser, but for fun stuff I can drag myself out of bed :) That'd be great if you brought Mystic, Michelle! Of course, seeing the kids and Craig would be fun, too! Decisions, decisions.... Hope we don't fall through on doing this as it would be fun to see everyone and now even Esther & Bob are thinking of coming again, too ~ yippee! Where are we all gonna fit ourselves?
Maybe we could do the plant thing and then go to a restaurant to hang out and have some lunch together? That way no one person would be overwhelmed. There's lots of good restaurants in that area, or if it's nice maybe we could go to a park and have a bag lunch? :)
If it were a nice day, I'd vote for a nearby park. You could either bring your own lunch or drive through somewhere to get it? Just my 2 cents.
Since parking is at a premium it might help if we could carpool before we get there.....?
Generally, I am very giving with the seats in my car, but umm, they are gonna be full! LOL Well, that depends on when I go and with who if I am able to go at all. :0 I'd love to see everyone and meet David, the dry one in Ohio (please forgive me, I lost your name LOL) and Esther and Bob! Gosh, who would think a mere infant could cause so much confusion?!?!
If mom and dad ride with us, they'll get the captain's chairs. Chele knows very well what we're talking about, because we bought the van from them! The van's floor will be taken up by flats, but we might have room for a butt or three on the bench seat in back.
I would like to reserve space for my butt on that bench if its okay by you. &:^)
You've got it! Does your butt have any preference on which day we go, or is either day okay?
I can bring let's see, three folding chairs I believe. That will help.
Edited to add that I've never been the first weekend with the variety of perennials being offered. Is that the weekend we are talking about or are we still deciding?

Definitely that weekend, just not sure which day of that weekend. You will be amazed! Have you seen my pictures from 2001? Look below the list of plants - there are photos. http://davesgarden.com/j/viewentry/13834/
Just to whet y'all's appetities. :)
Hey, Mr. Dave the thread starter here...Where are ya?
Any day is fine with me.
ROTFLOL Talking butts with preferences??? I'm having bad visions of Ace Ventura. :)
I think Friday would be best -- better selection. I know that it is very busy on Friday, but I have Friday's off. I work on Saturday mornings. Carpooling is a great idea... I suggest maybe a picnic in a park, it will allow us all to budget more money to spend on plants!!!!!!!! :) It will also give us a larger area to swap!!!!!! Just my two cents worth!!!
As far as the nametags go, does everyone want to print up their own, or should someone be nominated as chairperson of a committee to make the tags and mail them out?

I like Friday cuz maybe it would be a tad less busy? Okay, maybe I'm dreaming! Name tags would be great! Of course, wearing them as we arrive would make it easier ~ lol!
Wonder if DeMonye's would care if we hung a manilla envelope on the fence near the entrance with "DG" on it? That way, we could each grab a nametag out of there when we arrived.
Friday is okay with us, but I'm not sure Howie will be there since he has to work that night. If he's working third shift, it won't be a problem, though.
I'll keep watching to see what day ya'll decide to go on. :-)
Ditto.
Ohhh, Melisssa, you're just like Shi Ann, flying under that radar!! ROTF!
LOL, well, I am not going to say I prefer this day or that day...
1. I wasn't invited. :-)
2. I don't know if I could come even if ya did go on a Saturday! he he he
How's that?
Of COURSE you're invited..."Are you ready Ohio??" is the subject line and anyone interested in coming just chimes on in!
I was joking.. :-) LOL I just wanted to see what kind of reaction I'd get out of you!
Although most of my friends say that we live closer to Kentucky than we do Ohio. *scratching head*
I think they're trying to tell us we live in; to paraphrase Darius, "in back of yonder"
GW,
I can call deMonye's, and explain that a group of us from a gardening club are expected to arrive, and ask if them if it is okay to hang the envelope. The worst they can say is, "No," but I'm sure they won't mind -- "It's more sales (profit) for them!"
Dave
Thanks, Dave. That would be great. :)
I'm gonna steal GW's name tag to fool ya!
HEY! Leave 'em blank, Dave...Then we can really mess with folks. If you don't have time to make tags, I'd be glad to make and mail to you some self-stick blanks with the DG logo and site on them.
I still want to invite the gang over to my house for the after-sale party. Give me a couple more days to check on how life is going, and I will be able to better determine. Gotta check on my energy level before I make a firm commitment.
What kinds of perennials? Well, grab your favorite A-Z of perennials, and that is what they have. Almost all are straight species and a few seed-grown strains (special foxgloves, hollyhocks, delphiniums, etc). There are more than 300 different kinds of perennials. Just keep in mind, these are seedlings! They will take a year or so to be big enough to bloom, but they are healthy, and transplant very readily. A week after the sale, the seedlings are potted on into quart containers that are sold for $4.50. And we can get them for 4/$1.00
GW,
That would be a great help. We just had a bartender quit at work, so I have been working my a*# off! I still have Friday mornings off though, but I do have to work Friday evenings at 4:30. I'll send you my addy via email.
I just called deMonye's, and the girl that I spoke with asked me to call back on Monday, and speak with a manager (Brian or Lou) to see what we can do about the nametags. If anything, I'll get there early enough, and keep them at my car. The only problem would be if it is raining.
Dave

Too bad I am almost nine months prego and a couple of hours away. LOL I have experience. :)
Michele, what is your due date and have you made arrangement with Dave for him to make a major announcement when it finally happens so we can all know? I know so many of us are anxiously waiting. Maybe I haven't said so, but I have been.
:^)
Molly
Hi Molly! Last time I posted when I was headed to the hospital then hubby posted when he got home a few hours later. A picture followed in the morning. I'm sure we will do the same thing again or something similar. :) Thanks for asking. Oh, due date is April 5th. Who knows if the baby knows that? LOL
