It's sleeting here in Atlanta! I hope it turns to snow and sticks! LOL (Watch me get stuck here at work just for wishing it)
How cold is at your place tonite?
Just looked at it's 25 deg. A regular heat wave!! And supposed to be warmer this weekend. That'll be great because 3 of my brothers are coming to have fun looking at antique/old tractor dealers with my DH. They're from Vancouver, BC, Edmonton, AB and Lindsay, ON. They'll have a blast! To each his own!! :)
I went out this morning to start the car, and it FELT good! It was only like 28 degrees! That is SAD!
There wasn't any frost on the windshield even!
Give me a nice steady cold anyday. I really get fed up the changes. If it snows, thaws a bit, then refreezes, we're driving in awful ruts and walkin on uneven surfaces. One of the ugliest times around here is spring breakup when all the snow starts to rot and the driveway running like a river. It also floods our basement. Oh, joy!
Once we go below zero for a few days, 30 feels poistively balmy! If I'm dumb enough to live here, I deserve it! We get 4 distinct seasons--with a vengence. Makes gardening a challenge sometimes.
I wished I had the camera with me driving home tonight, the river is supposed to crest tomorrow, but in most places along the highway that runs with the river, it's just about even with the roadway. It's really creepy driving that close to the water, then looking out and seeing the river is 2 to 3 times as wide as it normally is.
After temps in the 20's we are
on a warm-up. 60 tomorrow, then temps will start going down again. Don't know if I should wear shorts or long johns!!

Driving to Anchorage, the Cook Inlet is full of ice, butted against one another. It is forlorn and looks like a Sci-fi movie.
My son was married in Anchorage,,,he showed me some pics of what he called looks like tundra!!!Would that be a pretty good description of your forlorn?
Cook Inlet is an ocean inlet. The base is silt. When the tide is out, the ice chunks sit on the bare silt like dirty broken glass, and the view stretches for miles. Here is a picture: http://www.engr.uaa.alaska.edu/ice/Stamukhas/stamukhas.htm
and another: http://www.engr.uaa.alaska.edu/ice/2_7_99/pancake.htm
and another: http://www.engr.uaa.alaska.edu/ice/2_7_99/belugapt.htm
It is a balmy ONE, yes 1 degree here this morning no wind chill factored in either !
My poor Diesel truck will be ornery :(
Down to 0 here - coldest day yet - haven't heard what the wind chill is. All I know is our furnace has roared all night long = oh, hate to see those heating bills!!
It's 37º here right now, supposed to get into the 50's today. At least it's sunny!!!

-8* at 9:00am. The car doors are frozen shut. I have to get out the hair dryer so that I can get out for more bird food! Brrr. - Julie
Weezin, I remember seeing Cook Inlet when I went to Alaska several years ago (my trip was in February, and it was still pretty frozen :)
It's got a surreal, other-world look to it with all those giant "ice cubes" out there. Something kind of disquieting about standing there.
I went to Fairbanks/North Pole that trip, too. Definitely colder up there (especially when they did a burger cookout in our honor - and we sat outside to eat our lunch to show we weren't complete sissies, lolol.) But seeing the aurora borealis and the flight around Mt. McKinley made it worth braving the cold!
I had -15 degrees this morning when I got up. We have little snow cover here. This will certainly seperate the men daylilies from the boy daylilies. :-)
sigh - I know....we only have 3-4 inches and it was -10 this morning with wind chill of -20. Fingers crossed for my semi-evergreens. Let them be MEN!
Sounds like the Northeast US is in for some even chillier weather, according to the news. It's beginning to warm up around here... almost 30 degrees F!
Terry, if you've seen Cook Inlet in February, you know exactly what I'm talking about. It is disquieting to look at... so desolate. The flats of Cook Inlet can be quite dangerous, as well. In some areas, if you try to walk the coast when the tide is out, the silty muck sucks you in and holds you down. We've had incidents in which people have drowned because they couldn't be extricated before the tide returned.
Fairbanks is really cold in the winter.. so cold, I've heard, that the tire rims on automobiles can shrink and earrings can cause frostbite. You just have to learn to live a different way, I suppose.
Lovely pictures kooger! We get the same effect here when we have rain followed by a hard freeze. Hoarfrost on the windows always reminds me of stained glass. So glad you got the hang of posting photos. It sure make threads more fun! Here's our log house on a snowy day a couple years ago in February.
Seeing all those cold pictures,I'm having goosebumps!!!
Kooger, awesome pictures. May look somewhat like that here in the morning as it is foggy now. However the temp. is probably too warm. Today was the warmest day in 10 days, got up to 38 degrees and is just above freezing right now. South of me the roads were very icy and slick, okay here, and county road crew had sanded the roads early so no problem for me to go to town. Donna
I am ready to move farther south!!
Mid 20's here again to night. It is
already 30 here. Where is that Ground Hog!!!!!

COME ON DOWN -- HONEYBEE, WERE HAVING A LOW OF 65 DEGREES
IN THE DAYTIME..I STAND CORRECTED..48 AT NIGHT BUT RARELY THIS COLD.

Last I checked it was 16 degrees. We are six degrees warmer than Richmond.
Steph
Tplant, I know where you are and don't try to fool them. It's 47 outside right now. I turned in at 1:00 last night and the temp was 48. I brought all my mobile orchids into the garage.
See, we overwinter plants down here in our garage in Ft Lauderdale too, for about 12 hours.
Now it's 46 degrees, sun's up, getting colder.

Looks like snow outside, frost is
very heavy! A cool 26, expect it will drop another 2 degrees before
sun all the way up.
Looking forward to SPRING!!

It's about 8:30 am here in Seward, Alaska, and the temp is about 25F. Our forcast doesn't call for it to get much warmer during the day. Right now, it is dark as pitch, and we won't see daylight for another hour or so.
Ordinarily, I'd be happy to see it get up in the 30's for awhile, but warmer temps usually bring snow or rain here in the winter, and our snowplow truck tranny just lost reverse, so I'm hoping it doesn't snow until we can get it fixed.
Our winter is certainly colder this year than it has been for several years. The last two were hardly worth calling winter... more like some of the Pacific Northwest. For all of you in 'warm country', keep yourselves and your plants warm... this may be a doozy of a winter.
it's an un believable 49 degrees and suppose to get up to 61 tomorrow, I'm in the flower garden tomorrow for sure. My plants are goingto be so confused.

It was so beautiful this am. Up to 47 deg.! Then a new front moved in. Cold, cold NW wind, howling 'round the house. The temp is now close to freezing!
Weez, I love that house! I can just imagine sipping coffee every morning on that porch watching it snow! Maybe if I ever win the lottery, I can have a cabin up in some mountain up north, and a house in zone 10 for when I get sick of it! (rolling my eyes) Don't I just wish......
Thanks, Jenks. My husband would like a getaway, too. When the wind is howling or he's taken a fall on the ice, he dreams of warmer climes. I don't spend much time outdoors, so I do virtual gardening in the winters.
We don't spend much time on the porch in the winter... it's just too cold! But we have a lovely view of one of the mountains from our kitchen table, so we can sip and stay warm at the same time.
We had a beautiful clear morning here. When I got up at 7am, the snowy yard was illuminated by the moon and stars. It's been a clear, sunny day, but cold and windy. It's nice to be indoors!
When I win the Lottery, I want a house for each of the Seasons and an escape from winter. I hate just LOOKING at my gardens...
At my age, 57 at the end of the month, the thought of gardening 12 months out of the year makes me ache just to contemplate! I often wish our growing season were a bit longer, but I appreciate the rest in between. I like to virtual garden here at Dave's and I start seeds in the basement pretty early, and there is seed sorting, seed trading, seed cataloging in between. It seems I eat, sleep, and dream plants 12 months out of the year. It's nice to do it in a seated position for awhile!
They're calling for a low of 46 tonight.
Minus 14 last night in the Harlem Valley!
-14? Brrrrrr! It was a balmy 27 or so (errr, that's on the right-hand/+ side of the O mark) here last night. We're in the typical winter weather pattern, fluctuating around the freezing mark at night - some nights only get down to the upper 30s, other nights will get down in the twenties; a few nights down into the teens. C'mon spring!!!!!
tonight is bad.... -9 degrees with a wind chill of -33 degrees.
Is it Spring yet?
Sandra,
You need to move down south. How
do y'all take the cold & snow?? I
am cold just thinking about it. Hope you warm up soon.
Honeybee
Had snow on the ground since Christmas but its almost gone and should be by morning the south wind is blowing and it is now down to 39 was 57 today .Ernie
