Best/Worse/What did I learn today?? Come join in (if you can find us!!)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - I've never done paper piecing, so not sure how to get started. I'll wait until I have more time to do new-to-me stuff.
We have a Wind Warning and snowstorm starting today - for now, it's strong winds.
Temp going down to -32c tomorrow, then back up to +5c. It's +5c now. Crazy weather here.
Why would you shovel so many times in a day? Are you getting company/classes or just like the cleanliness?
Glad to hear that you're still here & doing better, Deb. Wearing clothes that fit is important when you're healing.

Better get going to the Senior's meeting today. Had lunch, now time to hustle.

Very happy today. A resident of my hamlet came to coffee this morning, bought 2 tickets for her & her husband to the Robbie Burns night, gave a further donation of $60, and will be bringing 3 bottles of wine for the toasts, and will help on that day, and//or beforehand with stuff for the decorating, or in the kitchen/hall WOWZERS! She'll also talk to her extended family about coming to the dinner. My friend John said he's going to talk to the members of McDougall church that he goes to, and get more from there to come. He'll drive. So far I have 4 friends coming & with church friends & extended family, I'll have more than enough to make it viable. I'm thrilled!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, full day with students, snowing, just not bad enough to cancel, shift will end at 3 big sigh Susan, how exciting that your function will be able to go on as scheduled. Nice when some of the community come out and support by buying tickets, offering their services and advertising the event..I am excited for you you.

As for shovelling and snow blowing it’s a bit of all you mentioned, but when when you getting 3-4 inches and hour you can’t leave it because banks are between 8-10 feet so hard to shovel, lift that much snow over the banks, easier doing it when there is but a few inches. Marie it out there doing her drive and the garbage bin area on my property, I will go out once the kids have left which is 3. Not as cold here but close last week, this morning Ziggy went out for a walk around, short but sweet so it must be warmer.

i will have to go back in posts and see if Pat is now on her cruise..hope it’s all she wanted it to be,

Deb, you feeling a tad better?

Ahhh Rainee is here, my day starts

Was asking Lindakay because once spring comes I'd gladly drive to USA border and visit with you somewhere near Detroit Borden then spend a night with my cousin Brenda.. that or make a trip with a few of the girls to Frankenmuth

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I want to come visit you sometime, Betty!! If you're willing to put me up, I'll do my best to save up to travel. Would have to fly, not drive. My car wouldn't handle the distance.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that would be awesome.
I am still waiting on workers comp to approve my knee surgery. As soon as I can get to Michigan, I will let you know.
Susan, that is awesome news about your dinner.
It's only 20 here, feels like 5. We have about 2 inches of fresh snow today.

Good morning everyone.
Very frosty here in Texas. Don't think I am going anywhere today.

Slowly getting better, it's just taking way longer than I thought.
Really cold here for the next few days. Keeping the dogs inside as much as possible because they won't come back in unless I go out and grab collars and bring them in. It's 7 here this morning, too, but, are houses in Texas built with enough insulation to keep them warm enough? This has to be really unusual for you.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Linda Kay - NEVER come to Canada in the winter - you'd freeze like a popsicle....... it was -13F here (-25celsius0. Now it's -6F (-21celsius)

Deb - glad that you're on the mend, but wish it were quicker. Are you still on pain meds?

Evening, Artic Winter advisory starting tonight for 2-3 days

Wow Lindakay, that is unusual i it not, nobody would be prepared for those temps I am sure. Here they are saying no pets outside.

Susan, of course you could come for a visit, door is always open for any or all of you?

Glad you are feeling a tad stronger Deb, nope, dogs inside, you certainly wouldn’t want to be out there chasing dogs that size, would be asking for trouble.

Went to Barrie and shopped with Linda, did her good to get out and laugh. What a pair, i had a pair of p.j.’s in the cart we were using and she went before me and paid for my p.j’s so when we went for lunch I told the waiter one bill please, she said she had to go to washroom but an excuse to have the bill go to her, poor young waiter, when he brought the bill we both grabbed it, both squeezing each others hand til finally a Linda let go, we were laughing, my hand was so red from her squeezing that might be blue tomorrow lol

We went to 2 second hand stores looking for a frame for Evan who will attempt to paint their home, his mom wanted the before vs the after construction, i could not believe the prices they were charging for things, am sure many could be purchased for less money in stores. I did find one that looked older for $17.99, actually has a 20 x24” canvas in it, ugly elephants in purples, seems they did it with a plastic type dimensional paint, tomorrow I am hoping to have time to take canvas out and sand hoping it can be used for his project, doubtful but worth a try and if it doesn’t work I will get wood panel for him to paint.

I was glad I had actual $$$ in my wallet seeing there were so many people looking for $$$ and set up for a night that could possibly take their lives so what I gave won’t help much but might buy them a meal, breaks my heart to see what is happening and many thru no fault of their own.

Here aI am laying in bed, tummy full, fireplace crackling while others have nothing, doesn’t seem right. They are alerting the region that power grids might shut down, that would not be good, praying it doesn’t.

Chiropractic session 7:30am in the morning, if it wasn’t for that aI could enjoy a day staying in my jammies, no kids on Monday night after school, have a list who would like to participate in sewing classes but i don’t have energy to give up all my evenings.

Get cuddled up with a blanket and a furry and enjoy rest of the evening

it's only me here, and it will take a LONG time to save up to visit. It's wishful thinking at the moment.
I'm trying to find a place to buy chuck roast for the dinner on Friday. I need 15 lbs worth and it's pretty costly atm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, -26 with feel like -34 brrrr, my furnace is set at 76 and I’m still chilled, fingers are tingling..they are also calling for squalls this afternoon.

Susan, even hamburger is what steak used to be.

Been to chiropractor, a couple grocery stores, made a bowl of fruit salad to last me a few days, think8mg of making an applesauce cake so i cake freeze some, always stays moist even frozen. Picked up a few things so I’m tempted to get in my jammies and have a quiet day after my baking. Bought a meat pie, thought with mashed potatoes, hoping I can cut pie in 3 pieces and freeze 2, if not I guess I know what I will be eating next 2-3 days.

Maybe I go over all supplies and separate into bags what each of the kids coming Sunday need to complete their project, one thing less I have to worry about come Sunday then knit a bit on my shrug, that ought to fill a day.

Sharon should be in the plane en route to Africa, drastic difference in weather I am sure.

Hope you are all warm

For me, going to stay cuddled and warm

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - want to have sliced roast beef with gravy.......... traditional, don't you know?!?!
wow, yeah, drastic difference indeed! How long is she there for?
Did you separate all the fabric & supplies you got the carload of? I'm sure it made a LOT of kits for the kiddies.
I made up a bunch of spaghetti sauce & have some stewing beef in the fridge. Going to have to make some soup/stew.
Cleaning up a memory card to put in my camera for pictures on Friday. Need to take LOTS of pictures :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Most of the older homes in Texas are not insulated very well. The newer ones are. It was 11 degrees when I got up this morning. Our high will only be 22. This is very unusual for texas to get this arctic front come through.
My daughter in law went to a quilt shop in Hawaii, and was very pleased to see the Hawaiian print fabric only $5.99 a yard. Now she needs to find room in her suit case to bring it back home.

Sharon is away for 2 weeks, she played at being travel agent with guide that did the guiding last year, some are friends, think they were 16 of them.

Yep, we want to see photo’s of your event, you work hard organizing these events, having done many as Recreation Coordinator for township of Georgian Bay I know how much work goes into them.

No, i haven’t made fabric packets yet, maybe after this weekend I will have more time on my hands.

Brrr for you Lindakay, do the puppies have to go outside?
Look at that fabric, the price would want me to pack some up in those Air Storage bags that when you suck air out they make thin packets, if she did that to her clothes and fabrics just think of what she could bring back. Yikes, wonder if Pat will find that fabric store lol

Just turned the bedroom fireplace on to make it nice and cozy for when I go to bed

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy Lindakay, while looking at our storm and cold front a bulletin came up showing southern USA, ie Texas, Louisiana, not looking for it to turn northbound but feel bad for you all, at least we are winter equipped.

I’m in bed as I know I’ll be out at some point but said NOT before early morning, could freeze to death if I fell

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

The dogs love going outside, rain or shine. We are constantly mopping the floors from the mud they track in.

oooooooh I really like that 1st picture of Hawaiian print with the black contrast! If I saw that I'd be sure to pick some up!
Linda Kay your +9F is what we're getting here, in Alberta, right now at 6:30pm. YIKES!!! No wonder you're cold, and I know that you're not winter insulated. Hope you can stay warm with whatever covers you have handy!
I went to a Hutterite colony in the area and got the pot roast I need for Friday, at a great cost, compared to what they have in the stores around here!! About 1/4the cost, so I'm thrilled!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, nearly a foot of snow dropped last night, went out at 4:10am, so cold snow blower was frozen, nothing would work so I as best i could got it between the basement entrance up doors, difficult trying to ease it onto a couple of steps but I managed. Just came in and I am frozen,

Check weather, squall/ heavy snow warning still on

Called and told Jules this is ridiculous, my calling when I need out just doesn’t sit well with me,told him i have injections in hip and neck tomorrow morning, Thursday chiro, Friday chio, people then Saturday and Sunday people bringing their kids and some parents staying for the craft sooo I need my drive done early morning, says he will be here by 6:45, we will see..hate paying $900 for the season and having to call every time I need to go out..that will be my rant for today.

Off for my bath, oatmeal and coffee then go on with my day.

Didn’t know Lindakay if the dogs would like this cold weather?

Glad you got a good deal on roast Susan, how many people are you expecting, if someone calls at last minute will they still be able to get tickets?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, ask your students if they have a bigger brother that would like to earn some money shoveling.
Susan, glad you got a discount on the meat for your dinner.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

That's a good idea, Linda Kay - Betty has a lot of students, that I'm sure would be happy to make a bit of pocket change.
Well, got too many roasts so I'm going to raffle off one of them. I cut back on the # of scones and added dinner buns. I'll pick them up on Thursday . I've got just under 30 coming, and printed the programs an placemats. Tomorrow we decorate and the next day I do my running around in Calgary and points north.

Bus leaves about 7:45 and the get home at 2:30pm, my appointments are early morning. Jules did an excellent clean up just after my post, as it happened the major part of the storm was north and south of us, we got squalls, no visibly but just used up last night snowfall so I didn’t have to shovel today. That being said they are calling for storm overnight, hope it subsides by morning because i want and need my shoulder and hip injections.

Susan i went down to Foodland this morning, wanted to bake, thought i had sugar but not, passed meat counter and they had a small prime rib that would NOT feed 4, $75.82, imagine, glad I don’t care that much about meat.

GiorGia came at 1 and we picked a new project, think i did about 5 of them, didn’t keep one, I’d love to see one on the settee under gazebo so we are going to do the project together, just have a bit of fabric to buy to get our tops done. Throw is called “Georgian Bay at sunset”

Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oh, I LOVE the colouring on Georgian Bay at Sunset! Beautiful vibrant colours :)
Hope that you're getting plenty of rest, Deb (and you, too, Betty!)

Tonight I got 8 more tickets sold, so that's 30 coming! Yes, there's room for 50, but for a 1st year to get my feet wet here, 30 is a good number! I'm really happy.
It's really a blizzard outside. Good thing the weather's going to be nice Thurs, Friday, Sat & Sunday!
Linda Kay - how are you holding up in the cold weather? You need lots of sweaters & blankets!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that quilt is beautiful. Grocery prices are so high. I paid $25 yesterday for 12 rolls of paper towels..a 30 pound bag of dog food used to be $18, it's now $33.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, when I left for town it was -27, goodness knows what it was with wind chill factor. The wind cut right through you.nThankfully no snow, was worried I would have to cancel my shoulder and hip injections. I wanted to fill my gas tank, only 1/8 of gas was in it, not good in this weather but when it got to $40 I said another day will do, not freezing my finger even with gloves.

That is good news Susan, there may be a few last minute buyers but yes you did extremely well.

I was told when they changed my appointment that Dr. Jones had a few doctors filling in for her, she looked week, was providing guidance on how to use the machine that shows the needle entry and the bursary sack and other places you need to get injection meds in.while talking she showed me she had Chemo injection port, i didn’t ask what kind of cancer she has.

Then off on a shopping spree lol

Imagine, shopped for long Johns and cleats for my boots hoping it might help with falls all the while keeping me warm.

Do you get flyers Lindakay? i shop mostly by flyers, wether I need it or not I buy to have it on sale, did a lot of that today, bet I saved about $80 on what I bought today!
What I’ve been doing as well is cooking larger meals and freezing them, also been baking, best I start eating them lol

That is good news Susan, there may be a few last minute buyers but yes you did extremely well, kudos to you!

Peighton comes tonight, it’s her dad that repaired my dryer New Years Eve, almost wish she would cancel, I’ve tired myself out so best I get a move on, still a few things to get done.

Jules, plowman came, gave him a container of macaroni/hamburger & tomatoes and a container with a slice of pie. He says I’m the only client who feeds him lol

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

well, the hall is decorated and all the foodstuffs & pots/pans (& 2 coffee stations) are set out for use. Maureen brought the meat slicer from the Community Centre. The roasts are thawing in the fridge, & potatoes were delivered by the farmstead I got them donated from. She also brought me a Cinnamon Sourdough bread loaf - YUM! So cinnamon-y!! Two ladies (Colleen & Sharron - separately) came & helped me decorate. Two young lads came & did some table lifting, and ladder climbing to put up the Scottish flag. Sharron said she'd like to keep me company in my trip to Calgary tomorrow. I'll be getting haggis, turnips, some pre-cooked breaded chicken for me, a FB Marketplace item, and a snack for bowling in the afternoon, plus other shopping.
I'm tired now, but very excited. I made my Welcome speech, now need to make a speech "Response to the Laddie's Toast to the Lassies". I've made some Tablet and some Oat Cakes. House has been cleaned up after all the baking/cooking. I'm done in.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, i have the joanns app on my phone, and I get text from them telling me what's on sale.
Susan, you have been busy. Don't over do it.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Linda Kay - I'm somewhat like Betty, without the regular schedule - I always "over do" lol I think I need a nickname - "Over The Top Susan" lmao
My father taught me "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well" and I live by that..
I'm so pleased that for my first ever Robbie Burns, that I have 30 coming :) It vindicates what I've been saying all along - our little hamlet DOES need this.
Thanks for your concern though - I appreciate it :)

Think Susan we come from the same mold, always go go go

Lindakay, I have the app and get all their sales info but Buffalo isn’t close, besides what we pay on the $$$ in exchange just doesn’t make a trip worthwhile.

I went to Barrie after chiro this morning, picked up Linda and went shopping. i was short batiques for the Georgian Bay Sunset throws

Ooops student here, be back later

Victoria Harbour, ON

Late Afternoon everyone,

I was up at 4:30and had the snow done by 6, Marie came for a visit around 9 then I cut batique strips for my Georgian Bay Sunset throw, have the craft almost set up for Sunday Craft Day.

It’s so nice to see the sun out today, not just for finally seeing it but because there is no snow blowing today.

Sat knitting on my shrug but shoulder is giving me the what for and while knitting can feel my eyes getting heavier so decided I might have a nap.

Susan, bet you are one busy lady today getting everything in order for tomorrow
Feeling better Deb?
Hope Pat is enjoying her cruise
Lindakay has it warmed up?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

The Robbie Burns Night was an unqualified success (yes Betty, today Friday 24th, so tomorrow is a Day Of Rest). I'm exhausted but now people are wanting to come back again next year, including the piper and those who did speeches, etc. When all's said & done, piper paid and meat draw plus donations, we've cleared $1k for Silver Willow. We sold a haggis that was extra, I brought a small one home, and we still have one in the fridge at Silver Willow. Guess we only needed two, not five lol Ah well, a good time was had by all.

Looks like a nice turn out, Susan. Glad it went so well for you, sounds like you're started something! Nice profit for your group, too. I watched the video on Robbie Burns on "Scotland Unplugged" on you tube, the scenery was beautiful, and it was interesting. I read somewhere he is the third most statued non religious person, after Queen Victoria and Christopher Columbus.

Slowly feeling better, it's something that's just taking time. Not really sore, I get a little twinge now and then, but, not bad. Just taking way longer than I imagined. Now, it's just dealing with the bills that are coming in, I think those hurt worse! Still can't lift over 15 lbs, which makes it difficult trying to groom, because the young dogs won't jump on the grooming table themselves.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Deb - I also follow "Scotland Unplugged" on FB. Thanks for the kind words. One of the reasons we got so much is that the county gave a grant of $600, and not sure if they'll do this every year or not. Mind you, I have a LOT of leftovers, so didn't need to spend as much on food as I did. I've asked the Society what they want to do with the leftovers, sitting in the fridge at the Centre. The haggis will freeze, but not the other stuff.

Now, to finish the pillow shams (I'm adding more length to them, then I'll put the backing on) and deliver them to the winning bidder, and my NEXT project is inspired by this. I have the face embroidered, and fabric chosen. I may be embroidering the branches on some red fabric I have. This is for ME lol
Time to go to Silver Willow & gather my decorations, etc to bring home. I was exhausted last night & just wanted to go home.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, it's trying to warm up. Only 35 today.
Susan, so glad to hear your dinner was a success. Congratulations.
Deb, praying you are feeling better soon.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Found a place for the leftovers - donated for the Community Dinner on Feb 3. Gravy, potatoes, peas & turnips will stay good until then. They're making a stew, and I have extra uncooked potatoes in my fridge. I was given a bag of them, and I'm going to have to cut out carbs again. Christmas was bad for the ole bod LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, been almost as busy as Susan.
Started my day with Chiropractor then met Linda in Barrie for breakfast, picked up my new palm iron i bought last week but Linda had it in her bag, by chance we dropped into a Dollarama that had cutting mat# for $5.00. Great buy, I should have about several vs 2. Extremely high winds, school buses were cancelled, don’t know how managed but missed all the bad spots. Shoulder and back are paining so here I am pushing my back into back of couch to relieve some pressure. Mason was unable to come to the class yesterday so with school cancelled told him to come at 2, he must be running late, wish he wouldn’t come..

Had 21 young ones yesterday and did a lot of standing, guess that is why my body is angry with me.

Loved the photos Susan, especially loved seeing others with tartan. Isn’t it wonderful, not only did you provide a great event but contributing to yet another community event.

Know what you mean about the weight, I had lost so much weight when I was ill, had no appetite and now I’m cooking and eating large meals and up a few times during the night looking for bedtime treats.

Lindakay, has the weather improved in your region, out in shorts?? Have the last of the puppies left for their forever homes!

Deb, are you doing better, getting easier for you..still need not to be lifting dogs though.how is your weather?

I can’t wait for Pat to tell us all about her trip, hooe it’s all she wanted it to be.

I still haven’t tidied up putting chairs away nor putting tables back against the walls and setting sewing machines and cutting boards back on tables, if Mason comes and does his teddy bear I will ask him to help me do that.

Had to cancel Mason

awwwwwww the kiddos with their bears - they should rightly so, be proud. They're adorable!

Opened for coffee this morning (there at 8:30am, and Ron (VP & maintenance for Silver Willow) was there, waiting for the guy to look after the hot water tank - pilot won't ignite so have cold water. Now it's fixed but will need a new part because the jury-rig won't work forever. Then moved tables around & took down a couple and moved chairs. Afterwards, off to "walking at the Community Centre" that they've been pestering me to do. I went to my bank (BMO) that they're going to close down in July (petition's up to stop this), then to Lazy Susan's to have lunch, and the Hutterite colony to buy 2 chuck roasts & liver, then to the butchers to buy a Saskatoon pie (YUM!!) and to the grocery store for a few extras (orange juice & oranges), then home at 5pm. I was to go west of home to pick something up, but she's not home yet, so here I'm stopping.
Tomorrow it's off to a crib tournament about 1 hour NW of me, with my crib partner Bill. 10 games (5 in morning, and 5 after lunch), includes morning snack, a delicious lunch, then HOME.
Tonight I'll adjust the 2 pillow shams to add length and hopefully finish them up. I was too busy last week to work on them.
