Wonderful Jeff, Betty! My mom used to say "If someone offers something, and you refuse twice, the third time you accept gracefully or risk hurting someone's feelings." Wise lady.
Still working on Michelle & Lonnie's quilt. Last row, then I work on bringing up the backing to make the binding around the edge. I'll send her a picture of it Christmas morning so they can see their present.
I got a Christmas food hamper from the local food bank. Made this lady feel a little less lonely. I know, I said no coffeetime or games night this week, but I really do need to do some stuff around the house - a well deserved working "stay-cation".

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sitting here gabbing with mom,

Was outside most of the day yesterday shovelling, tired me out!
Got up at 6am, was bothering me that all the totes were in the back shed, as soon as Boxing Day day comes which is Thursday I start packing everything up so off I went and shovelled 8n 4’ of snow a pathway from the house to shed, hard working on area that had ice in order that I could open the shed doors but I managed to, then came 24 totes which I put on back porch.

By then it was 8 and mom was sleeping so good time to go to town as I had to buy 10 giant rolls of tape I use for the totes and roll of construction plastic I use for the Xmas trees and put the rest on craft rooms tables, last year I looked at what it cost me and it was $82.00, this year $105. When I left for town I had such an earache, couldn’t even turn my head, when I went to drug store they were out of meds for it so back to putting vicks vapour rub at the back of my ear and front lobe, warmed my froggy and it’s taking pain away, slow but sure.

Will be an early night for me, supper at Sharon’s tomorrow.

Guess you are all extremely busy with company and christmas Day preparations, Enjoy

Look what was left from my christmas dinner

Jenny finally got the stitches out & cone off. Vet said she could sleep on the bed with Marie and gave her a sedative (the dog, not Marie, although Marie could used one too!) . They both got a decent night sleep.

We have been cleaning and baking like crazy trying to get as much done in advance as possible.

Yes, the next quilt got done without too many issues. I was able to phone when I hit a problem, I was unable to clear. I can't wait to get another one the frame but I need to get the bindings on what has already been quilted.

Merry Christmas everyone!
Just home from the church's Christmas Eve service. It was lovely. No issues driving there, or back home - weather & roads were good.
I went to a Christmas celebration at Silver Willow, put on by one of our members for her family. Just the right size hall for all of them.
Tomorrow at 10:30 I'll get picked up to go to the Legion Christmas turkey luncheon. At 4pm I'll go to a friend's house for their Christmas dinner. I told them that I won't be eating much (two turkey dinners in one day? Yeah, not much lol). She asked me to bring a Tomato Aspic. Glad to do it. I have the traditional recipe from my mom's one that we used to make every Christmas & New Year's.
This year seems to be filled with lots of good cheer for me. It makes me feel loved & blessed this year.
I'll be doing to the Community Centre's New Year's "do" in the hamlet over from mine. Bought a ticket. About a month ago.

I'm home from Pete & DeAnn's Christmas dinner. Our friend Helen came too. We played a card game called Wizard. I just learned it tonight and got 2nd place in two games. Not bad for a newbie lol They sent me home with a drumstick & some stuffing (YUM!) and I brought home some of the tomato aspic I made. Guess I know what I'm having for dinner tomorrow! Love turkey :)

I guess everyone's busy with family celebrations. Hope that you're having a WONDERFUL time :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone.
Hope you all had a nice Christmas.
It was busy here. My son and his family came in from San Antonio, we had a houseful. Today we are all going to drive through pal duro canyon. It's so pretty.
Susan, what is tomato aspic?
Betty, hope you are feeling better.
Pat, glad to hear the cone and stitches were removed.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hope you’ve all had the best of Christmases, nice to spend it with family and friends.

I am exhausted, packed up Christmas, Mason came and took 22 toes to back shed, he no sooner left i realized I had 2 in my bedroom. The outside can wait. Lordy i was blessed he was able to help.

Mom is still here, not sure when Sharon is taking her back to the city, dog barks continuously, hard on the nerves.. am hoping she takes her home Sunday

Time for a nap, took me 15 hours over past few days, all that remains is dusting, vacuuming and washing the floors, can guarantee it won’t be today, tomorrow is another day.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh Betty... that dog would get a quick trip ANYWHERe outside of hearing! LOL

We had a nice Christmas. I wish Marie would let me pack up Christmas and get it put away. She says day after New Years, that's a compromise.

I got 4 vaccines yesterday, 2 in each arm. Trying to get as prepared and "protected" as much as possible for the cruise. My arms are itching and hurt, just normal reaction to shots for me.

Jenny is feeling good and we have to watch her that she doesn't try to jump up on the couch. She is NOT supposed to be jumping at all. . Marie is finally getting a full night sleep. Yesterday they slept in until 10.30 AM. She didn't have to take Jenny out even once during the night, no whining & waking Marie up!!! YEAH team! We bathed her yesterday as well.

Marie's car has a check engine light so she's driving mine. I have my pickup if I need to go somewhere. She's out shopping for clothes. I am just grateful she didn't expect me to go with her. I hate shopping.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Tomato aspic is a jellied salad. It was a tradition growing up to have it for Christmas & New Year's Day dinners.
it's 4 cups of tomato juice, 2 pkgs of Knox gelatin, chopped onion & celery - fills a 5 cup mold. I still have my mom's Tupperware mold with the interchangeable mold tops (tree, star, heart & tulip).
If you want, I can give you the recipe.

I got 2 bags of books for our library yesterday. Get one every month, so they're catching up after the Postal strike.
I'm off to Calgary to get my ink cartridges refilled & to pick up stuff from FB Marketplace. Tried to connect with friends to visit there, but no one's home. Ah well, I may go back to Calgary in the summer to visit.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, do you still have your mother & her dog?

Susan, I am sure it IS nice to get your mail again.

A friend gave Marie 2 huge sacks of clothes & she has gone thru them, we are passing them on this morning to a woman in need.

I have a LONG list of things to get done but most of them I do NOT want to attempt on a Saturday. Returns to stores etc. I ordered 2 long sleeve 50 SPF shirts for the cruise, neither fit & don't fit Maire either. I hope I have time to try again before the trip.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, thanks for explaining tomato aspic. I am not a tomato juice fan, so I will pass on the recipe.
Betty, so glad you got help with the totes.
Pat, whis your cruise?

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. This is my first time back since surgery. It's a lot slower going than what I expected. He found a second hernia, which was also fixed once he was in there. Taking everything very very slow. I go back for a follow up on Friday.

Rainy day but best not get too comfy with rain, soon 8 days of bad weather, mega snow.

Sharon left at 10a.m. today to take mom home, she was fine bit Bella did not stop barking, nothing new because when you talk to mom on the phone there is nothing but barking, am liking the quietness.

I did her bedding and started cleaning my craft room, didn’t get 1/2 done but tomorrow is another day. Kyle and Destiny made me a sign for my craft room so managed to get it hung.

I keep looking at the clock and thinking wouldn’t it be nice to have a hot bath and climb into bed, put fireplace on and just be ever so comfy.

Are you back sewing Lindakay or will you wait until the dogs are gone to their forever homes?do you have outdoor runs for them? Sharon takes Paris to see if the frozen sperm took,if it did she will meet a friend from Penn in Buffalo who will look after her during pregnancy as Sharon will be in Africa.im not understanding all, this birth of all puppies will go to her friend.

I saw on Facebook Deb all your 2024 achievements, Lordy that was quite a year!

Think Pat best time is beginning of week when stores first open. Not a fan of standing in return lines. Glad Marie is getting more rest. Bet you are anxious for your trip, i can’t wait and I am not even going.

Wish Dianne would post, an update would make us feel better.

Susan you’ve had quite a busy schedule this Christmas now comes getting back into a routine.

Off to sun everything off downstairs and call it a day, want to go to town tomorrow but most of where I need to go only opens at 10, a wasted day!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

All I have done since the 4 vaccines is sleep and read. I don't even have all my Christmas presents put away. It was funny how many items Marie & I bought for each other that were the same!

Deb, I hope you are on the mend from all your surgeries.

Betty, I would go CRAZY with the barking dog. I do NOT do well with noise.

We leave on the 11th of this month for the cruise. We got a lot more info and I admit I am a little disappointed at the limited access to the sewing areas while we are docked and some evenings. NOT what I expected, oh well. If we ever decide to do this again, we will be looking into a different host,

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Deb - glad they fixed the 2nd hernia now, rather than a 2nd operation. Expect that you're pretty sore, so get as much rest as you can!
I'm with Pat, Betty - would NOT like a barking dog around, in or near my home!
Pat - sorry that you won't get to many sewing areas during the cruise. Hope you enjoy the cruise otherwise. lol on you & Marie having the same things for Christmas!
Betty - not back to "normal" yet - going to a New Year's Eve party in the next hamlet over, and I have a pair of pillow shams to make, to go with the throw quilt that was successfully bid on.
AND, my place needs to be cleared up after the mess of Christmas and quilting lol
I'm loving the Miko brand foot massager that Michelle & Lonnie gave me, and the DVDs of 11 Bing Crosby movies. I wanted to have Going My Way, and it's one of them.
Lost - my plastic card holder with my birth cert, driver's licence, car insurance, SIN card, AB health card in it. I have a copy of my AB health card & driver's licence on my computer & a copy of my car insurance in the glove box so have printed them up for my wallet. The gov't doesn't supply replacement SIN cards anymore, but I know my # off by heart. I didn't have any payment cards in that holder, so that's good. People are warning me against having my SIN card in it - wonder why I kept it. Oh well. I notified everyone that it my have been lost "there", but so far no one's found it. I tore through my car, now going through my home to see.

Does anyone know why Dave's Garden is posting all those drug sites? Is it legal to sell this stuff on line without a doctor? What is going on?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Puppies will be going to new homes in 2 weeks. After they get all thier shots. Things are slowing down here, so we will get back to sewing soon. We need to get those blocks to Pat.
Deb, praying for a speedy recovery.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

The drug postings are people hacking into DG. They're trying to remove them as quickly as they can. The posters are spamming DG.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Stillwood, no I am most certain it is NOT legal. They are spammers and Davesgarden just doesn't catch them fast enough. Every time I see one, I report it to admin. ANYONE can report and then Admin clears them out. The spammers sure are prolific!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy New Year everyone.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Happy New Year!
Just home from the Community Centre in the next hamlet over's New Year's Eve party - great dinner, great conversation, and lovely people to celebrate with. Younger people (with or without kids) left early, leaving us old 'uns to be there until Midnight.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Today Dianne & I are going to a Potluck New Year's Day dinner at the senior's drop in centre in Trochu (20 min from me). I'll pick her up on my way there. I'm taking homemade ice cream - peppermint, with chopped up After Eight chocolate pieces.

Good morning everyone.
Welcome to 2025.
It's been busy here, family and friends visiting.
I can't wait to get back to our sewing room.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

What a day.............
Sat Dec 28 I lost my ID pouch with my SIN card, birth cert, driver's license, AB Health card, car insurance. Today I called to see about getting a replacement driver's license, went into the Registry Office (half hour away) to get a new driver's license. Can only get it with my passport, seeing as how I don't have any other ID. Went back home to find my passport (renewed it 2 years ago, for 10 years). Can only find my expired one. Can't get a new one without my birth cert (which is lost). Called Vital Statistics & they said I can't get a new one without picture ID. Registry said they can't take an expired passport. Vital Statistics said in order to get my driver's license I'd have to have my marriage certificates as well as divorce papers showing that I kept my married names (birth - maiden name, 1st marriage, then 2nd marriage = different names & didn't go back to my maiden name). I don't have my marriage certificate because I had to surrender it when I put in for a divorce.
WELL, I spoke to Registries again, and they said gather all I have, plus a utility bill with my name/address & call on Monday when the supervisor is in, and MAYBE they will be able to help. In the meantime I can't drive without a license. Don said he'd drive me to town on Monday IF they can help me. I should call first, to see if they can.
Well, 2 blessings - 1. Registry will try to help. 2. Don will drive me to where I need to go.
and 3 - I'm getting a lot done on the quilt for Michelle & Lonnie.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh Susan, what an endless loop! I hope you can get it all straightened out on Monday.

Anniversaries are hard Betty. I can't imagine how much harder with being so close to the holidays.

We hired Marie's grandson Brandon & his cousin. They got all the holiday stuff down & packed up and stored in our newly completed attic storage. Goodness, we have so much more room in the garage now!! Pretty exciting, now for me to finish cutting up all the denim for quilts. Next year is our LAST year for the doll projects and THAT will eliminate LOTS more boxes and provide room.

Jenny is recovering quickly and our biggest problem is trying to keep her from overdoing and jumping up on couch etc.

Abbreviated story, lost our pet sitter for the cruise and got a replacement before Marie even knew we had a problem. It was a VERY panicky feeling until I got a replacement lined up.

I have all my quilt kits cut and ready for the cruise. Now I'll try to help Marie get her's done. I got a really cute dress at the thrift store today for the "dress up dinners" that are hosted on 3 different nights. You can always choose out and go to the buffet those nights if you would rather.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning

How are you feeling Deb?

Susan, nothing worse than losing all your ID, glad there is a chance it can all be renewed then watch, you will find the packet.

Bet you are getting pretty excited Pat, I’m anxious to see finished quilt tops.

Lindakay, like you I am anxious to get back into sewing something, if i was smart I’d start on all those partially started Xmas projects

Been snowing since New Years Eve

Went to town in a blizzard yesterday p, back at 11 then shovelling all afternoon.

Fell twice, snow had turned to rain, next time in town I will buy snow boots cleats, i was at Canadian tire to buy an iron and forgot about needing them. I was hurting all night as I couldn’t get in a comfortable position to sleep so was up and at it shovelling at 3am for an hour, came in and finished hand sewing Sharon’s dog quilt, did all my housework/laundry & still wide awake and can’t fall back asleep, guess I’ll wait for my next shovelling as they are calling for heavy snowfall for next few days.

Going out to clean off my car so I can drive down to Foodland to get what I need so I can make a large spaghetti sauce and lemon merangue pie

Drats and more drats, storm just starting up again

This message was edited Jan 3, 2025 2:46 PM

Spaghetti sauce made, cinnamon rolls, 2 lemon meringue pies and 3 shovel outings.
So trying to have a nap before Greg drops in for his sauce and pie, can you imagine to make the sauce it was $66.00, shows the weekly discounts, would have been close to $100.

Closed my eyes for maybe 5 minutes, now I am wide awake. Don’t think this snow will ever stop coming down and yet not far from here they've little to no snow.

Am sure Greg and the boys are thrilled, it will be a snowmobile weekend, sad, just north of us 2 lost their lives, weather hasn’t been conducive to make ice so why on earth would they be in the lake.

Got the "all good" from my surgeon. Back to the office on Monday. Only restriction is no lifting over 15 pounds. That means one of the kids needs to carry dog food for me, but, a bag will last a week, so not too much. No snow here, there's supposed to be big storms across the middle of the state, about 175-200 miles from me. I wouldn't mind a bit of snow, but, know that I won't be able to shovel, so probably best it stays away.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hope it stays away for you Deb, will post pictures of what we got..we are in same storm system, been hard. Thought you always had a lot of snow, you aren’t far from Chicago right?

Were you hoping to have another week or so off? Those bags of food are heavy, aI have trouble bringing in litter.

Greg dropped in and left me enough spaghetti for 2 meals lol

He sat and chatted a bit, said ‘mom how come your eyes are red and sunken in?’
Well, up and out at 3am, shovelling all day, falling twice, trying to get comfy where it hurts so much, pain killers, not a wonder..big sigh

I’ll brave tomorrow lol
Likely won’t get to go to Barrie to Red Lobster with the girls, will be disappointed

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, there is NO ONE you could hire for the shoveling? I worry about you. PLEASE keep your cell phone on you at ALL TIMES.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not many kids in my area, mostly older and with this blizzard, continual snow fall most are doing their own and can’t keep up.

I braved today, was out at 1:30,3:30,6:15,8:30,Marie did it at 11
i did 1:00, 2:30, can’t even see outside, ate, hot bath, body is saying nope but I will have to fight it and go out again, I’ve a big yard and the banks are so high not sure if we get what they say we will get where it will go, banks are so high
i have that battery operated snowblower, not the small battery type so started to use it last few days, think that is why different muscles are hurting, easier one way but harder to push

Sharon said they just came and did the main road, the road she lives 9n hasn’t been done all day, they can’t keep up.

Drats, drats, drats
Guess it’s time to get out there
Yes, bringing phone with me

I’m sounding like such a complainer, not liking it

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Deb - glad that you have help but....... already back to work?
Betty - are you taking anything to sleep? I've been craving spaghetti. I have everything but the ground beef
Quilt is done, now to do 2 pillow shams for the lady who won the throw quilt I made that she won.

Forgot to post this, now many hours later.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Amarillo got maybe an inch of snow this morning. Looks like ice under it. Praying it's not too slick.

Betty, can you place an ad on Facebook marketplace for help?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Yep, back to work. I worked the past week from home. Most of my job is sitting in front of a computer writing work instructions, and going through customer specifications. A few times a day I'll walk over to the production area, and see if anyone working on one of my projects has any questions, and the rest of the time is spent sitting in meetings. Nothing stressful. The hardest part will be being up all day. When working from home, I'd go and lay down for an hour at lunch. Won't be able to do that.

It seems like we used to get a decent amount of snow, but, the past decade or so, it seems like we'll have maybe one good snow storm. Mostly a dusting or so, up to an inch or two, then temps go above freezing. Most of the big storms seem to be "south of Interstate 80", which skims the bottom of Lake Michigan. Someone once explained about winds dipping around the bottom of the lake then up into Michigan, which leaves our area with less snow, most of the time. At least that was the gist of it. Every few years we get a real doozy, and the whole city pretty much shuts down.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Over the last few years, our winters have been mild in De but then are in full swing late Jan & Feb. YEARS ago, it was not heard of to have tulips in Feb, NOT anymore!
Anyone play with "fun" feature on their phone? My granddaughter frequently sends funny pictures, today I decided to send one to her.

When my Aunt and Uncle lived in Alaska, they had some winters when they had to shovel UP to get it off their roof. Home insurances companies were paying their customers to keep their roof clear!

Afternoon, well almost evening, did the snow at 5am, will give a clean up before i go to bed.

Well there are plenty of snowblowers in the region advertising bit for clean up of areas not so much. Looks like i will have a reprieve for a week or so. Called Jules who does my double+ driveway to see why he is not pushing snow along the pines, said he had just gone to bed and would give me a call tomorrow but that he rented commercial equipment to move the snow banks and it would be done next week. People complained and a lot didn’t pay that they paid far too muck last year, only did drive maybe 4-5 times, but bet not complaining this year when he has to come 2-3 times a day.

Too bad Debbie you couldn’t have worked from home a few more weeks. i read that because if the climate being in warmer side re Lake Hron/Georgian Bay lakes aren’t freezing thus creating these massive snowfalls, said likely will get worse over the years,oh happy days lol

Susan, were the pillow shams an extra order once lady won the quilt? Did you get your I.D. Sorted out?

Lindakay, even that amount I’d snow/ice must play havoc with driving, won’t last long though right?

Went to town his morning, while hamburger was on sale I bought more and fixings for another batch of spaghetti so when Jeff comes up I’ll make him his batch.

Can’t get motivated, yesterday I managed to get snowman backing on the frame and batting, just need to do tap, had hoped today but it’s not looking promising.

Sharon has been using blades for her cutter that she buys 15 in a pack for $28.00 i thing, she said they last just as long as the one we buy and almost pay same si I had her order me a package, was just dozing off when i heard someone at back door, they said likely Tuesday they would be delivered but here the are. I also ordered a room divider for computer room and pain shelving, knitting machine tea, want it to look tidier, delivery date says Thursday, hmm perhaps I will get it earlier.

i advertised the valentines day children’s ’valentines Teddy Bear Angel’ workspace yesterday, having it January 26th for 22, almost full.

I bought wool this ironing to start that quilted block design that you crochet blocks together, maybe I will do 3-4 blocks just so I can see if I like having the crochet to do
