Sounds like you had a great day.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yeah, I did.
Hope your day was good, too - puppy sitting lol
Here's my new Boston fern - it's huge!

seeds, Pat? hmmmm didn't think of that, but we only have off-shoots of previous maple trees, only about 1 ft tall. No more trees. Keep cutting them down. I have NO maple trees on my property, nor my neighbours but that doesn't seem to matter.

Betty - I missed your previous postings - the kids were SO cute in their Minnie Mouse & firemen costumes. Not his 1st Hallowe'en, so I'm sure he enjoyed it. Hope, well I don't think she would even know what it was about lol

Love trees, planted over 20 about 20 years ago, paying big time, sooo many leaved, only bugs I've had over the years was those tent caterpillars, yuk.

My niece gave me a slip from grandma's fern, almost lost it. Will buy a good bag of soil for it and will replant in meantime I will put an aspiring in a cup of cold tea, it's what grandma always fed it. Your plants look happy.

I appliqued berries and leaves on Sharon's block, made Halloween goodie bags for Grayson and Hope.

Cleaned the closet and called the lady that is getting clothing for the needy, Sharon gave me a pattern for knit toques so I will make some this month.
Dreary rainy day, going to have soup then grab an hour's rest til Giorgia gets here

Betty, i thought earlier you said Sharon was making a zebra print block? Guess I read that wrong.
That block is beautiful.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

aspirin in a cup of cold tea? Guess I know how to feed my fern now. Thank you, Betty.
LK - I was sure she said a zebra print block, too

Victoria Harbour, ON

No, she made one but is doing it for a friend.
Suppose to be a warmer day today so like it or not I must get out and finish winterized pond, putting Xmas lights on front deck before the snow comes and set in my barn board shed for winter storage, there will go Wednesday.

What are you all up to today?

Pat haven’t seen you pist8ng, you and Marie ok?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful quilt. I thought you said she was making one, just didn't remember it was for someone else.
Just taking it easy today. Doing laundry, washing lizzies bedding from the whelping box.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Imagine it takes a lot of work Linda Kay having that many puppies, at least Lizzie is able to feed them and you're not having to bottle feed that's a plus. Just came in for a break it's absolutely gorgeous out there warm breeze and here Marie came over and helped me emptied the pond put the Christmas lights on the balconies and a few trees a tree next to the front of the balcony so once the call comes so the snow comes I won't have to do it on the weekend I'll take down all of Halloween and maybe do a few other things outside that will be ready for when the snow comes. Seems far away but often we get snow mid-november and it stays so that's only weeks away. Has snowed before on Halloween and stayed but hopefully not this year. Supposed to be all nice all day tomorrow but then start to rain in the afternoon isn't that always the way with those poor little kids out in the cold in the rain

Read your post Lindakay and it said there was more, I pressed on the more button but nothing came up so either it's not catching the whole post or there was no more after you said you were doing the whelping box

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Whelping box was the end of my last post.
I am so glad we don't have to bottle feed this time..
We have a possible freeze warning for tonight. Supposed to get down to 34 degrees. My son and daughter in law are outside trying to get plants covered.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

often DG will show there's a new post, when actually it was your post. I'll see a "more" notice and I was the last one to post. It's been doing that for weeks now.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Just super busy. Still elling off surplus stuff, making dog & cat pads for the shelter. We're trying to finish up all the baby blankets so we can get them donated.

Marie & I bought a Christmas tree. We thought her's was too big around. Marie wanted to try a flocked tree but didn't want to be locked into one forever. I told her I thought we should buy a used one or something cheap so we didn't feel guilty about not keeping it, if we didn't want to.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that is happening to me as well.
Pat, praying you get your projects done, so you can rest.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Linda, you need to update us with puppy pictures! We can NEVER have too many puppy pictures!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Today I got a call from someone who would like to be a part of the Robbie Burns night here, but can only do it on the 24th and he'll bring 16 people with him for dinner. I put a call in for the piper to see if she can come a day earlier. She travels from Calgary and that's an hour's drive

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I hope it works out for you Susan.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Well, the person who'd bring the 16 for the dinner said he'd also offer a piper, someone to do the Selkirk Grace, bear in the haggis, do a toast to the haggis, and the Toast to the Lassies. Everyone dressed in their Celtic finery. He also said the piper would be cheaper or free. So I contacted the young lady & she said she'd be able to pipe on the 24th as she gets off from college early that day. As I'd asked her first, I accepted that she'll pipe, but I do have the other entertainers, so all's good. I have the decorations, and paperwork so that's good. I went to the grocer & he's said he would donate something towards the dinner. I'm going to ask about 18 lbs of roast beef, and hopefully he can provide that. Then I would just have to get the potatoes & turnips. Things are turning out better than I thought they would. SO happy.

The Hallowe'en party at the Community Centre turned out well. I'll have to post a picture of me in my costume. I got a lot of other pics too. Kids are SO cute :)

Morning, sky is black and going to rain and expected to do so for 2 or 3 days so maybe I'll get downstairs and get some quilting done I haven't put a quilt on the frame and about 2 years so let's try to do it today.

Halloween evening sure was a success, I had 136 kids $138 if you count hope and Grayson, out about 5:30 the sky opened and the wind came up and thought it'd be a washout but then it cleared right away and talk about kids all dressed in their finest was really nice to see.

This morning here I am starting to put Halloween away and trying to talk myself into as I bring each tote out to the back not to bring a Christmas one in as yet far too early I think but that's my normal routine so that I'm not stuck in a blizzard doing it.
Sure hope Susan that your event goes as I know you've wanted to do this particular one for a long time now if the dates of all the players can coincide you'll probably have a great turnout especially if he's thinking of bringing over a dozen people to help support it.

Pat that's a brilliant idea about buying an older tree or buying a smaller tree and expensive that's flocked so that if you don't like it you can always get another. My tree comes with acorns and berries and just to touch a flock and I really like it. You are always so busy do you ever take a day just for yourself

David goes into surgery at 9:15 and Linda hasn't got her results from strep so they're not letting her go so his daughter and son will go and keep Linda informed if she wasn't feeling bad enough not being able to go to the hospital it's far worse not being able to be there for him well he has surgery. I should get dressed and drive to Barrie and spend some time with her as she was feeling pretty low last night.

Best I take a quick run to the back shed and get some totes before the rain I can fill them tape them and then when the rain stops they'll be ready to go in the back shed. There's far too many totes that means I've far too many decorations.

Too bad Susan if I had those blocks on these rainy days it would be would be perfect time to do borders

Back on my next break

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that's awesome news for your dinner.
Betty, i can tell by your posting, that you are going to over do things.

Sending puppy photos.

Lindakay, they are so cute, my problem would be letting them go. Do you have a favourite, am sure you do..

You look great in your nursing costume, kids love seeing adults dressed up as well.

Dave went through surgery without a hitch, woke up and said he was hungry. All through his illness he hasn’t lost his appetite. Linda is feeling much better being able to be by his side.

Lindakay, my morning started with me being very energetic, was just starting the downstairs when my niece Tonya who is pharmacist at Walmart in midland called to say the got the new batch of flu vaccine and put one aside for me so got dressed and headed in.. ended up with Covid and flu shot, cold and damp out so Here I am watching tv and knitting myself another pair of slippers, think that will be all I will achieve for today.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Love the photos Susan.
Betty, glad to hear surgery went well.
I love thevgray puppies, but know they will go to new homes. No way we can keep one. We already have 3 in the house. That's enough.
Yes, 1 was buried under the pile. They Love to huddle together.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yep, the costumes were so cute! I am happy you still have some your costumes Susan. I got rid of mine, had none for this year.

Betty, if Linda does not know if she has strep, is visiting a good idea?

Linda, the puppies are so cute! THANKS for the pics.

Today we left the house to start running errands at 10.15 and got home at 7.45! We had so many things to do today. We shopping at thrift stores for Christmas decorations and Marie desperately needed more clothes, everything is too big. We met with a insurance broker to determine which supplement was our best choice this year, mailed off a box to my BFF for Bday & Xmas. etc, etc.... LONG day, now Marie has to try on ALL those clothes so she can return them within the 2 week deadline.
I headed up leftovers, dinner & then the clothing parade starts. Wish us luck.

Stanley waiting for me to stop reading this morning. Napping on my bed and then sitting in the window.

I'll get a different costume next year. Helen kept coming & pulling my top up to hide my cleavage, which of course caused my skirt to go up & it was short enough as it was! Then they teased me because I was having to pull my tights up LOL. Yup, different costume next year. I'll get one off of Marketplace, or a thrift shop.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Pat, you and Marie had a busy day.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Linda, too busy and the house is a mess. It is all driving me crazy. My husbands SIL Tina & niece Heather are coming on Wednesday to look at the clothes we have sorted out. I told them we are putting a lot of clothes up for sale & they could come first, before I took pictures and listed them.
We came home with a whole cart of clothes for Marie to try on & mark for alterations. We did pretty good, not a lot of returns this group. It helped that I picked out her pants and I did not let her see the sizes. She is out of touch with her current size, she has lost a lot of weight.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad you can alter them for her.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening,

Cold and windy day, did get out and took down what Halloween was left. Ray and his son Christopher came yesterday and got most of the leaves done, they will be back Saturday to do the eaves troughs, will be a big job done.

That is a long day for sure Pat. Is Marie dieting or has she been unwell?
Glad there won’t be too much to alternate, only think i hate doing. Stanley is adorable. Linda got her computer results before she visited Dave.

Lindakay, the dogs are quite a size so 3 in a house would take up mega room. Is the breed in high demand? Will you find homes without much difficulty.

Wonder how Dianne & TH are doing?

Was up early and even earlier when you consider time change. Took out the light weight sewing machine and worked for a bit then a lady dropped off 3 boxes of fabric, going to have to stop getting fabric, way too much is accumulating.. started with a clean living room and now what a mess.

Linda decided to drop in for a visit, when she called and said she was coming I made bread pudding and cream sauce so she could bring some to the hospital for Dave.

Sharon dropped in for an hour, told her I wasn’t going stateside thursday to Sunday, exchange has skyrocketed and lots going on stateside, so best I stay home... she will mail quilts blocks while there.

ziggy sitting on coffee table, think she is trying to get me to go lay down, knows she gets treats when I do.

Hey everyone! While we're on the topic of dwarf tomatoes, has anyone tried the Jeremy's Stripes Dwarf Tomato? I grew it last season alongside my Dwarf Gnomov, and it was amazing! The plant was compact like the Gnomov, perfect for containers, but the fruits were unique – a beautiful red with golden-yellow stripes. The flavor was sweet and tangy, great for slicing. Highly recommend it if you’re a fan of colorful, small-space tomatoes! Check out https://bountyhunterseeds.com/product/jeremy-stripes-dwarf-tomato/

evening all, talk about a cold rainy windy day brrrr
So cold i called my Snowplow driver just to confirm he will do my driveway this winter, grrr between $900-$1,000, sad but has to get done.

Did write a good post this morning, went todo something and puff, am sure it’s on phone i just have to learn how to work and find things.

Pat, Linda had her results when she went to hospital, so glad you don’t have too many alterations, only thing i dislike in sewing.

Lindakay, dogs are large, are they all inside dogs. Did you ever Re list your home! Sometimes a different realtor makes the difference.

Linda dropped for an hour yesterday, i made bread pudding for David as it’s one of his favourites, tomorrow if all goes well i will take her for breakfast and drive to the city and see if they can repair my iPad, sooo miss it.

I was telling LINDA as David forgets he has had company to put a notebook in his room so anyone visiting can leave a message so this morning i went 8n search of one i still had that belonged to me grandmother to give her an idea of what we wrote. Shortly after Melanie messaged me to see if i had Greg’s birth certificate so went through my files, while there i came across a box that had 101 condolence cards thought I’d get rid of them, been over 30 years, looked at them, read their words and got me crying, i counted, 90 of them were from people now deceased, 7 of them had one of the couple deceased, 4 couples still living. 2nd thing I did was read in the signing in diary people were writing in, that did it, all now gone except 2 so a good cry gas done me in.

Why do we do such things, wasn’t sad when I started my day.

Yikes, almost burnt my spaghetti sauce while doing it. Had banana s whipped for muffins but didn’t make them, maybe later. Still haven’t finished sorting the boxes of fabric I was given Sunday.

Evan comes for sewing at 4, i so hope he is a no show then i can do muffins, have hot bath and to bed.

Darts, after I pressed send I thought I should learn so prepare for lasting in case I lose my message

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

how lovely, Betty, that you made bread pudding for Dave. I'm sure he appreciated it, and Linda would too, to have something to take to him.
Glad that you're staying home this weekend. I would hate to think of you having an "episode" while away. Are you better now, and getting rest?
I agree - more big dogs in the house would leave no room for you to get around lol
Saturday & Sunday I made fruit cakes - 5 loaf pan size each day. They'll sell for $25 each.
Yesterday I was at the butcher's who I hope will still be able to make the haggis for the Robbie Burns' dinner, but he was broken into & a lot of meat stolen/spoiled (being left out of the fridges/freezers and he had to throw a lot out). He may not be able to re-open as he's only been in business for 5 months & this was quite a hit on his finances. He has insurance, but no security cameras. Usually works 18 hrs/day but he took some time to go home & sleep & that's when he was broken into.
Started to learn Spanish today. Silver Willow sponsored it as we're seniors, but it was asked for by the Wellness group. The Casino gov't group (AGLC) allows seniors (and anyone else who wants to join) to learn languages, etc but it cannot be put on by just any group, so Wellness paid Silver Willow to host it (plus, we have a full-size kitchen & fridge). Every Monday for 6 weeks, from 10-noon (except next Monday as it's Remembrance Day). So, I'll open for coffee @ 9am, then the lessons start @10am. I downloaded the app Duolingo to my phone. It costs $119/year, so may only use the 2 week free trial. I know quite a few words already, so that's good.

I lost the thread Best/Worst Quilt Round Robin.
can someone post the link, pls?

n/m - I FOUND BEST/WORST - 2024 ROUND ROBIN among all the posts from "oman" and about pregnancy pills, etc. A lot with strange characters in the titles, and some in languages I don't understand. They look to be repeats/repeats/repeats. Very confusing.

Yes, they are inside dogs. Yes, they are high demand. Cane corso dogs have only been in the us since 1988. They weren't officially recognized my the American kennel club until 2010.
My son said the same thing about realtors. When my contract is up, we will switch to see what happens.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

sweet - inside dogs are best for those who are home bodies (not leaving them alone to work, etc). I looked Cane Corsos up & it says they grow to 120 lbs, very muscular, and require a lot of exercise. not aggressive, but good guard dogs, and smart. LOL also "assertive and willful, and can end up owning an unwitting owner."

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I've had a couple of BAD experiences with realtors and after my first bad one, I learned to INTERVIEW the realtors and ask them WHY I should list with them. They had to sell me on themselves. We could not have been happier with the realtor we used to sell & buy Marie & my house this past year.
Yes, Marie & I have both been working on losing weight. She recently got additional help in the form of the new weight loss meds. I have not done that, but I am considering it. Over the last few months, I have been losing and regaining the same 15 pounds and that is NOT successful! Nothing short of plastic surgery will "fix" the skin from the significant weight loss.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Our 2 adult cane corsos are at 130, and 140 pounds. Lizzy is 110 at 1 year.
Glad to hear you are both losing weight.
My nephew a few years ago weighed 600 pounds. He had many serious health problems. Doc told him lose weight or you will die. On his own, the following 6 months, he lost 100 pounds, then the doctors did that stomach surgery. He now weighs about 270, and he was told the excess skin probably weighs close to 100. Insurance won't pay to have it removed, but he was recently told, that if he donated the extra skin, certain doctors will do the surgery.

Looks like Trump won the election. Some states are still counting.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Marie and I laugh that we could donate a LOT of skin. At my highest weight, maybe 25 years ago, I weighed 403 pounds. At 229, I am at my lowest weight since then. I have been most successful with NO counting calories but reducing carbs and fats. I do best when I do NOT focus on food. In years past I have tried various plans that include all kinds of strategies but just trying to eat healthier food, and not including sugar, has been my most successful long term practice. Even that fails me sometime with long periods of no loss or even gain.
I have a serious sugar addiction and moderation does not seem to work for me. Total abstinence is my safest plan. If I never have the first bite of candy, then I don't eat the bag full. As long as my favorite treats are NOT in the house, or only "drop in & out quickly" then I do OK usually. I am a stress eater, so I have to be on guard to not try to cope by eating. Easier said than done.
The only skin I have heard of insurance paying to have removed is that "belly apron" of fat that hangs low after a lot of weight loss (and sometimes just age), and that is only if the doctor can document it has caused health issues like repeated yeast infections.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

a neighbour of mine in Calgary wanted to get rid of the belly apron & the provincial health plan wouldn't pay for it. I'd never heard of donating skin, but that makes a lot of sense. I'm sure burn victims etc, would really be appreciative of it.

I got in touch with Melody about the spammer & all those "abortion pills" posts that were clogging up everywhere here. Sure glad she looked after them! I'm glad she looks after us :)
