I was going to suggest mucinex max. It comes in liquid cough syrup or pills.
Other wise I would suggest hot tea with honey and lemon. Also Vicks vapor rub on your chest works good. I also put vicks on a q tip and rub it inside my nose.
Praying you are feeling better soon.
Best/Worse/what did I learn today? Come chat with friends, ..a place filled with warmth..always a chair to sit and chat and feel at home!
Betty, I very seldom drink soda but I did find cola helped to cut the phlegm. I switched to it until the worst of the congestion was gone.
Please keep Judy in your prayers.
She just sent me this text message.
Hi linda, just letting you know I'm in hospital for another angioplasty, procedure 6, geesh hope this is it!
Oh no !!! Positive thoughts and prayers going Judy's way. Wow she has had a time of it. Thanks for letting us know LK.
Sunny but quite chilly here.
Tomorrow I am going to Ottawa with a couple of friends to the Ottawa Christmas Craft Show. We used to do that show. Betty, it is like One Of A Kind only about 180 - 200 exhibitors rather than 500+ . Jenny, Teresa and I went 3 years ago and my friends had never been to a show that size and diverse. It was interesting to see the show through their eyes.
Went out the lane early this morning so I could be at the Pet Food store in Sydenham for 9:30. Price of dog food and treats have really gone up. The boys were very excited to see their tartar busters are in the closet. I did a crazy thing and bought Zeke a toy Christmas rooster that squawks ..... what a noise. As my sweet dad used to say when I played my records too loud "Can that racquet!" I hid it up on the second shelf of a kitchen cupboard to get some peace. He sits in front of the cupboard whining asking for it.
Betty were you able to get your injection ?
I've been awake since 2 am so it will be early to bed tonight for me.
Liz I hope Kenny will heed the doctor's orders. I'm chuckling not because it is funny but Warren was the same. If he had told me a few years before he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer that there was a mass on his right lung he might have helped himself from so much pain. He was in the hospital for a heart issue and they ran a bunch of tests. He chose to ignore it.
There was another theft on the lane - I guess you would call it a theft. A few trees on the side of the lane were cut down and the wood taken. Desperate times ! I had heard the chainsaw but just thought it was someone up the lane. We don't any of that farmland and lane anymore. More than anything I wanted to NOT own the lane anymore.
So Betty the phlegm is coming up ? My mother's answer to that was a mustard plaster. I got burnt a few times when she slapped it on me. The other thing that used to help loosen it up was warmed up apple cider - not juice.
Karen are you and Walt feeling better ?
Susan were you able to rest up a bit ?
Need to check the freezer and scare something up for dinner.
We are feeling better. Still not venturing out. I really wanted to go to a craft show my daughter is in but think It's not a good idea. Sunday will be two weeks since I got sick so should be in the clear. Just need to build myself up a bit.
Oh I'm so sorry to hear about Judy. Hoping she gets put to rights this time. Worst thing about ever having heart issues is that's all they ever think every time you have a problem. Every time first thing they do to me is a monitor. I've not had a problem in nearly 10 years.
Betty, for a cold I always find that candied ginger works very well.
Yes, I got some rest. I'm so pleased that the senior's Silent Auction is over.
I went to a Live/Silent auction last night, in the next community over. They have it one night, and made a LOT of $$. The auctioneer was great. He volunteers his time, and they pay him with a case of beer & a gift cert lol There were a LOT of people who attended. I managed to get a Lunch Box Stove for $35. There was nothing there otherwise, that I needed. I have all the Christmas presents I need, and frankly, I'm running out of funds lol
Last night I SLEPT. The night before I woke up at 3am and didn't get back to sleep, so I was tired yesterday. Dianne drove to the Silent Auction, because frankly I was dozing off at the wheel in the afternoon, and didn't feel like I should drive last night. If she hadn't driven, I wasn't going to go.
I have mice......... ewwwwwww They must have come in during our cold snap because I haven't had any for years. I got an Electronic Mouse Trap, and will set it out. It looks like they've been nibbling at my sugar/boric acid mix in the cupboard next to my sink (where I think they've come in, at the water pipes). This will likely take care of them. I saw where I mix boric acid with 2 parts peanut butter into pea-sized balls & they'll eat them. Whatever works lol
Evening, heading to bed, thought I’d check in first.
Prayers for Judy, that is a lot of fixing. How long is she normally in the hospital for such a procedure?
Dianne wish you a fun day tomorrow crafting..Sioux wished i would have gotten to go to one this year. Yes, must be quite a change looking at the craft vs selling.
Will you break down and give Zeke his noisy toy? Can see him sitting begging for it.
I imagine wood is worth the price of gold.
Karen, think it’s a good idea that you stay home and gather more strength. I think i will go back to wearing masks..this is no fun
Susan what will you do with yourself once the club closes over Christmas? Will you be hosting Christmas dinner?
I understand with so much disease in turkeys the volunteer groups will replace ham instead of turkey.
Got my hot chocolate and ready for bed
Hoping no coughing jag for a bit
The procedure Judy has, they usually keep you a day or 2.
Praying you are feeling better soon Betty.
Update on Jjudy.
I just got released. Doc said I did well.. did
not need another stent but got a good rodding and ballooned. Follow up in 6weeks. I had a bad reaction to probably the vicodin. But much better so on the way back to lakehouse.
WOW! Great news on Judy!!
I made a hand puppet once for my nephew and his dog WANTED it sooooo bad. Look at the bookcase and cry lol.
I got stuck overnight Thursday at Marie's, the weather turned nasty and it was unsafe to drive home. We spent ALL day until 1 AM working on getting the dolls dressed and sorting clothes for the bags. We don't have the clothes into the bags but they are sorted, put in outfits and ready.
Today we spent making cookies etc getting ready for a party we go to Sunday, weather permitting. Just a bunch of friends that sew, light refreshments & cookie exchange. I am hoping the weather does not prevent sewing friends or church dinner.
Wow - that's Great news about Judy! I'm so happy that it was an easy fix & the Dr doesn't need to see her until after the New Year! What a relief!
Betty - hope you get a good rest.
Pat - good thing you stayed in place, rather than tempting the nasty weather and how nice that the dolls are ready to have their clothes bagged. Now, to the sewing party! Enjoy the church dinner!
Betty - except for the week between Christmas & New Year's, we're still open and having Coffee Mondays & Crib Wednesdays at Silver Willow.
There will be no hosting a Christmas dinner, for me. People I know have family to spend the day with so I'll be going to the Legion on Christmas Day, and enjoy a Christmas dinner there. They do this every year. It started with one man who paid for the Legion to host the dinner, and when he passed away a few years ago, the town of Three Hills is now paying for it and the Legionaires cook it and serve it. Going to it is one of the reasons I decided to join the Legion & this particular branch of it.
Linda Kay - meant to tell you........ Last Tues one of our Wellness group decided to show us how to make a Scandanavian Star for a Christmas ornament. She made a "wrong" step & asked me to Google it. When I went back to that video, the ladies who were showing how to make the Star mentioned the no-sew Quilted Christmas ornament such as you sent me and there was a link to how to do the Quilted one! I'm going to attempt to make a dozen! I hope I can find the foam balls to do so. I'll need a lot of the satin pins, too. They're so pretty!
Susan, sounds like you found a nice solution for your Christmas dinner, ENJOY!
Karen, glad to hear you continue to feel better.
Betty to not have eaten in a couple of days certainly would weaken you. I hope you are making progress now. In the first set of photos, my favorite is the first one.
Judy, dear, such a relief to hear you are doing well.
I'm feeling pretty good. Daughter is in a Christmas craft show with her art and baking. I was planning to go but.....
Her art work sells very well at the Outer banks. She has works in several galleries there.
Today was also the day I was going to take the QOV fabric to donate. It can wait another month.
Sounds like you are about done. With the dolls for another year Pat.
Hope you can. Make it to your friends gathering and. The church.
Susan, glad you found the link. They are very easy to make, just hard on the fingers, pushing all those pins. I used an eraser on the end of a pencil to push them.
Linda, clever idea to use the pencil! I hate that I have so little hand strength anymore.
Dropping in for nothing but a sec.
If I thought I had it before it sure came on like an onslaught. Greg went and got me some meds he also took the two stain glass vases in the girls for her to put the key in line so that helped me meanwhile I’m in bed coughing and hacking like there’s no tomorrow
Betty, please get a covid and or flu test. Praying you are feeling better soon.
Betty - sounds like you have an onslaught, for sure! I agree, you need to get a covid and/or flu test!
My SIL got covid for his birthday! It was his 50th, too! oooops and I forgot his birthday on Dec 8th. He was "down & out" for it, and still pretty tired, so they'll wait for him to get better before going out for dinner to celebrate.
I'm going with a friend, Estelle, to visit some friends in the Lodge in Three Hills & will stay for tea, then going to visit Dianne for a bit. I have Christmas presents to give our Lodge friends.
I'll be crafting stuff this week, as I'm feeling pretty productive, then we go carolling on Friday.
Linda Kay - good idea on the eraser, I have one I can use, so if I can find the foam balls, I'll be set. I found ribbon & lots of Christmas coloured fabric, so I'm good :)
I did Covid test twice, shows not Covid
Drats was freezing, turned fireplace on and now I’m soaking wet
Glad it's not covid. Please take care.
Susan, can't wait to see your ornaments.
Betty, could be pneumonia. I had both at once and the coughing caused me a huge amount of pain. To say nothing of throwing up great gobs of phlegm. It took two antibiotics for me to get a handle on it.
I am starting my third week Betty but just abut well. The coughing just abut did me in until I got a nose spray that stopped the drainage and when that was stopped so was the coughing. I woke up every morning with soaked pj's. Worst part was the no sleeping. I checked for Covid, which came back negative and all the doctors in my family think I had RSV.
I just checked in to make sure everyone is ok.
Linda Kay - I went to the Dollar Store in town today, to get the 3" foam balls I need for the Christmas ornaments, but they had a sign "Closed due to unforseen circumstances". I hope they're open soon, so I can get the stuff to make the ornaments. I wonder what the "unforseen circumstances" are. Hope everyone's well.
Estelle & I went for tea with our friends Una & Sandy (who lives in a Lodge), and Catherine was visiting at the same time. We had a lovely tea with dainties and a very nice visit. Una, who lives in a senior's complex, found out that she had a concussion from about 5 months ago when she fell & hit her head on a plate glass window. She was going all this time worrying about why she was feeling the way she did, and only now found out that she had a concussion!!! She was in the hospital at the time for 2 weeks, and no one thought to test her for a concussion!!!
Enjoyed the craft show in Ottawa yesterday. We had a great time and we all bought something. I ended up buying something that is so weird for me that Jen (Keiran's mom) was laughing. I bought a watch made from exotic zebra wood. Jen was laughing as I only wear cheap $20 watches if I remember to put one on at all. It is beautiful and the face of the watch is spectacular colour. It too is a rare stone. I also got the tools to fix the wooden panels plus some extra wood strips if I need them .He even showed me how to use the tool if I need it. It has a 1 year guarantee. I was just mesmerized by all the different types of exotic wood bands. He sized it for me. Now I have to remember to put it on when I go out.
Jen and Theresa bought gorgeous leather purses. Jen has had her eye on a particular 1 since she saw it at the show just before the pandemic. I don't carry a purse - too many occurrences of me leaving it behind and having to go back for it . I keep everything I need money, credits cards, OHIP card and DL in my pocket in a small change purse. Plus with my back being so bad the ortho suggested I not carry a purse. Back in our early days together I carried a purse but half was filled with DH's stuff. He was very excited one Christmas with 1 thing he bought me - it was a small carry on. Of course he had plans that all his cameras and lenses could fit in the bag.
Susan I had the same experience with a concussion. Kai and Chaos jumped on my back as I was getting my boots on. I went down with a terrible crack - I couldn't even get my hands out to help break the fall. My face was a mess but I didn't go to the doc's. After about 2 weeks of pounding headaches and 1 my eye swollen shut my neighbours convinced me to go to the doc. That was during the pandemic so I ended up having to send pictures of my face and after seeing the photos the doc just sent me off for x rays. Yep it was a concussion.
Any new update on Judy ?
Looks like a dreary day here. We'll walk after the little pellets of ice are no longer mixed in with the snow.
Stay safe and warm.
It just started snowing and it looks like we are in for goodie storm.
Betty how are you feeling this morning ?
Sharon I was so happy to read you were on the mend.
Morning, ground it white.
Sharon, 3 weeks is a long time, haven’t been out of bed except for washroom..hot bath and that wasn’t a good experience. Had to look at iPad to see what day it is..
Spending time in my mind trying to figure out how the kids who worked so hard to make for loved ones will get them finished.
Waving to all
Susan, I hope you can find the Styrofoam balls you need. Sounds like the store may have been closed due to sickness? So much of this flu going around.
Sharon, glad to hear you are on the mend.
Dianne, I haven't heard from Judy since she was released. I imagine they went home to rest up.
Betty, I am sure the kids understand that you are sick.
Betty, I so sorry you continue to feel so rotten!!
Kids are kids, they understand but they don’t..
My sister is still here and we are sitting on the couch in my great room, on our computers. If I talk, I cough, so not much taking going on, She is watching a Korean Drama on her i-pad. She loves those. I have never watched one. My sister has been walking Emma. This morning my mucus turned green again after completely disappearing, Betty, so keep a close eye on yourself. Hot shower always helped me feeling better and got the mucus flowing out of my head.
Diane, I had a concussion once and also did not know it. I was walking around for close to two weeks. Ended up in the hospital for about 4 days in a hospital room that had about 4 other ladies in it that thought I was their daughter. It kept the hospital stay interesting. I was walking down the hall at the Federal Building and a person who knew me came up to me and ask if I was drunk. I told him, I had not had anything to drink. He then said, you are walking crooked, you need to see a doctor.
Susan, so pleased you and your friends are getting together. This time of year is a sad time to be by yourself.
Diane, I have purchased items when I am having a good time with friends that I would have never purchased if I had been by myself.
Betty, I saw your photos on Facebook. Those children did such a great job. So what is left that the children need to do to finish their project?
Pat, my son and his family live in Spokane and they said they were getting so much snow. Today both my brothers are getting snow. They both live near the border of California and Utah. Brother near California got more than a foot yesterday and the other brother across the state nearer is getting over a foot today. We are currently getting rain. The West is in such need of moisture, and I am so thankful.
Karen, looks like you will be getting this storm next then Diane and Betty.
My great-grandson just turned 1 and one minute is was barely walking and now he is running. my grandson-in-law will know in mid February where he will be doing his internship and then they will be moving. It has been such a delight to have them so close and watch them grow up. They are actually hoping they end up back in St Louis because they like the people and the area and now have many friends there. He is going into surgery so will have 7 more years.
Hugs to all of you. Get well soon everyone.
Una, when she fell about 5 months ago, fell against a plate glass window and got quite a gash on her forehead (large crescent moon) and wasn't the same since. I mentioned it at the time (quite a lot) but people were blaming her age (she's 93) or a hospital flu. A crack on the head like that, with all the symptoms, shouldn't have been overlooked as a concussion. I"m no Dr, but I would have thought it was obvious to anyone. Oh well, she's feeling a lot more relaxed about it, now that she knows what it is.
Sharon - sorta getting together with friends, but wish I could get together with friends at their homes. A community dinner at the Arena & today a community dinner at the Community Centre, and the 3rd being one where I was pitching in as the President (1st Christmas & it had to be great - stressed out trying to make it perfect) and the 4th where I needed to arrange a birthday party joining with a Christmas lunch because I'd (gasp) forgotten the Past Chair's birthday weren't relaxing with friends as much as I wanted. I know, I'm blessed to have all this, but call me greedy - I wish I could throw a party at my own home like I used to. Last year husbands didn't come because there wasn't a man at my house. Men like to gather with men. Last year I put a lot of work into an evening party, and only 3 ladies showed up. I was eating cheese dip for a week......... I won't be doing one of those parties again. Too expensive for so few.
Yesterday I went grocery shopping & saw Bob in the store. By rights I was supposed to leave because I think he was there first, but I ducked to the back of the store, cuz it looked like he was ready to go to the check out. I waited until I saw him leave then did my shopping. I don't think he saw me.
Susan, first date I went on after the divorce my EX & his wife ended up at the same small restaurant. I was grateful he ignored me.
The story of the doomed sugar cookies.
So, I got iced in at Marie’s Thursday night, we had planned on doing our cookie exchange project Friday so, I thought no real problem. I do not have a kitchen (don’t ask). Since I had not planned on doing the cookies until Friday, I only had part of the supplies with me. I mixed up sugar cookie dough & put it out to chill.
I realized I did not have my tree cookie cutter. I made do with Marie’s star & she bought me a tree cookie cutter while she was in town buying her supplies. I baked all the cookies and took them home to work on.
I had ordered high quality green dye & a box of regular food dye, I locked Stanley, my cat, in my bedroom to keep him out of my work. I mixed up the green frosting & it’s hideous! Baby poo green!! Ok, no problem, I’ll only use the stars. The regular box of dye was NOT the “standard” I ordered but the NEON & there was NO yellow. It is 11:30 PM and Walmart closed at 11 PM. Ok, I’ll use the orange. I carefully frost the first coat with the white frosting and spread them over the 6 cookie sheets I just bought. When it’s set, I pipe on the orange & shake the gold sprinkles on. I carefully stack all 6 cookie sheets and carry them into my bedroom. Now, I lock Stanley out of my bedroom and go to sleep.
THIS morning, I get up, and seal up a dozen cookies in each of the Ziploc bags and barely have enough stars for 7 dozen. I carefully place them all in a cardboard box for transport.
I get ready for church, look at my box of cookies, thinking I will put them in the back of my car for safe keeping. I discover that Stanley has made his way into the bedroom and SAT in my box, thereby breaking most of my carefully packaged soft sugar cookies!!!
And that, my dear friends, is why I gave cans of Almond Roca at a cookie exchange. I am going to find a family with lots of kids to donate all the broken cookies to.
Morning
Oh my what a tragedy Pat although comical, read everyone’s posts, sorry not have have responded to them, just wasn’t well enough.sure you all understand.
This morning i decided to try it up for awhile, sat on the couch but oh oh, needed 2 baths and a couch couch wash, a series of coughs and everything going straight through me.ran out of nighties the past 6 days so ventured downstairs to do a wash.
Going to try and look at what time options are so that the kiddies finish their projects..thought tomorrow if i feel well enough I will make binding and pin to their quilts to save a little time
Dear Betty, if you still coughing and having to do "wash" there is NO way you should contemplate working with the kids yet!! GOODNESS!!! Please consider your own health FIRST. Yes, they will be disappointed but this could make a difference LONG term to YOUR health and longevity!
Oh Betty, Do NOT have children in until you are well. Not good for them or you.
Oh Pat not this week but want to book them in next week in the order they have their gift, for sure not till this cough and other issues are resolved. Only other place i will go is my 10:15 dr, appt for injections, which reminds me, should put the injection vial in my purse so i don’t forget the,
I sat here, more of the projects was a pillow for a little girls grandmother so while sitting here i digitalized the name..might even broiler it for her then all she needs to do is put pillow together. No energy needed for that..
Evan’s stained glass piece has to have came painted in black, i can put it on table and do it a bit then all he has to do is wax and he is caught up
Dryer should be beeping at any moment, be nice wrapped under hot clothes while i fold them

Sorry to hear about your cookies Pat.
Susan, you are so busy all the time. Don't over do it.
Betty, I don't doubt you got your bug from the kids. You need to stay away from everyone so you are not passing it back and forth. Glad you are finally getting your injections.
I am still up, managed to get the pillow embroidery done and put the binding on the quilt, just attached, I’ll pin and she can finish..imagine in scrap bag I had a bag of already scrap binding so didn’t take more than 10 minutes, the pinning can be done here on the couch.
Figure by next week on their regular class they can finish them
Linda Kay - I got chided by a friend here who said "I thought you were cutting back & saying No to things?!" I am, but somehow I get pulled into things lol Even when I say NO, thank you!
However, the busier I am, the less I have to dwell on things doncha know?!?!
I found a "Freebie" monthly quilt set of blocks I got in 2009/2010 and I'd done up to #5, but it goes to #9 lol I know that some of the fabric colours are those I Don't like. For instance, pink & salmon are not colours I like. I tend to jewel tones & richer tones, but I know that pale colours will set off the darker tones. Because my cousin is a quilter, I picked up a 2nd set for her, but then she gave them to me, so I have 2 of each block (when finished will be 18 blocks). The series is called Scattered Leaves. As the pattern & cutting directions comes with each package, I can make the blocks with my choice of colour. I DO have a lot of fabric to play with lol
This Friday is when we join the Fire Dept & go carolling. They'll be handing out candy canes with Santa while we sing.

Can't wait to see your new quilt. Sounds pretty
