Best/Worse/what did I learn today? Come chat with friends, ..a place filled with warmth..always a chair to sit and chat and feel at home!

Victoria Harbour, ON

How nice Karen, wonderful these chat/video programs, not like being with them but better than a regular call. You won’t eat for a month with all these meals.

Sharon just picked mom up for the day. Her back is out.
Gave me a nice card with $200 in it.. spoilt I am, might have to go to Buffalo one day when snowstorm disaster is over.

I am going to have turkey dinner Mel sent home with me as i only ate a few spoonfuls last night then take meds and rest my shoulders

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Ok, got home last night. I asked my brother Mark to let me know when they were leaving so that I could follow them out. We both live in Kennewick & that means crossing 2 bridges and a couple overpasses which can be hazardous in bad weather conditions.
Next week is predicted to be much warmer, not the single digits we have had over the last few days, NOT the snow/ freezing rain.
I am sorry to hear of all the pet issues and concerns that so many of you have been experiencing!! So scary, we love our furries.
Somehow, I need to give myself an attitude adjustment and stop focusing on what "is not working" and count my blessings.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Smart idea driving in pairs Pat..
Laughing at your needing to have attitude adjustment, you are the last person i think that needs an an attitude adjustment.

Bella has been barking for the past hour non stop, personally I think she has Alzheimer’s. Wish furries could talk.

Any news on Luca Deb?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I was just miserable most of yesterday, wishing my oldest & wife could be there (a mountain pass & miserable road conditions). Then there is Kevin who has converted to Jehovah Witness so will not be celebrating any holidays with me...... Clayton in China. Or, if I had a better relationship with Adam's family (I did NOT see them ANY of them Christmas in spite of living in same house!) So, 4 sons & none of them with me at Christmas. So yes, I needed an attitude adjustment. My sister & husband was there, my brother & wife, my nephew, wife & 3 kids. So, it was not like I was alone. Time to stop feeling sorry for myself.
I am going to go sort thru my jeans and cull down to 4 pairs. I have been continuing to lose weight and I need to get rid of "the worse", since I only have 2 pair that actually fit.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Just picked up Luca. He is stitched up, but everything looks good. They told me he'd be groggy from the anesthesia still in his system. No one told him that. All the other dogs are locked in other rooms, he has the dining room and my computer room to himself and is busy playing with toys they got for Christmas. The others are barking because they hear the squeaking. The e collar didn't even last on his head in the crate on the car ride home. When I go to bed, he'll have to go in a crate with it back on. They're just concerned that he might try to scratch at the stitches.

I slept 10 hours last night, but, I'm still tired. Need to stay up until 9pm so he can get his meds at the correct time. I hope he'll sleep tonight, and leave the e collar on.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Debbie, here's hoping you & Luca both get a good night' sleep and he keeps that collar ON1

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear you didn't have your kids with you. I totally understand your mood.
Glad to hear Luca is home.

Morning, had but 2” of snow last night, shovelled as soon as I got up, yes,I’m paying for it but no alternative, just has to be done. Joe who has the atv had a mishap with it,too much slow, blew transmission, a wait for parts that could take weeks+ so i have to be out there.

Deb, other dogs don’t understand why Luca is getting priority, hope he slept well with his collar, they sure do not look comfy. How did you sleep? When are you back to work?

Pat, yes it’s no a wonder you were upset, nothing worse to be with others and they have family with them while you are so missing yours. Hugs

Lindakay, your weather better? Temperature up,up,up?

Oh my, isn't that snowmobile a cute toy & look at Grayson's smile!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Believe me Pat, my kids were about 4 when they were driving a mini one and 14 when they each got one for Xmas..and so they continued buying sled every 3 years. It is very hard to even imagine machine with heat warmers on handles, feet and seat then they had different

Went to town with mom, Sharon and my niece Nikki, of course 1st stop was Norms garden where Xmas was 50% off, we all came home with bags full. I bought gorgeous sprigs of greenery that I will replace real greenery in that piece Paul sent me..now to find red carnations then i can put it away for next year.

We decided to have lunch at Shannon’s, Irish pub that just opened..omg, talk about yummy, I’ll be eating there a lot. It’s pricey but does 2 meals.
So it’s been a nice day.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Few people have snowmobiles here, we don't get the consistent snow to support it. You have to go elsewhere. Our deal is boats and jetskis, horses. That's what my community supports.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

oh Betty - an angel, indeed! What a sweetie!
I'm a major hurtin' unit. Yesterday I volunteered for a double shift at the casino for our Senior Society.from1pm to 1am. Small room with the 4 of us, so a lot of twists & turns going from the table to the windo where I dispensed cash for chips and back to the table to play cards, and move out of the way to let someone else by. By the end of my shifts, I was in absolute tears & needed help on both sides to manoever out of the building & into Maureen's car fo the drive home. Lots of tylenol & left the mattress heater on all night. I'm marginally better today, and don't have to go anywhere until Friday when I have a massage app't at 12:45.
Blessings - My daughter & SIL sent me a lovely hooded blanket for Christmas. Colours are a tartan of my mom's (ancient Hamilton) and I have it wrapped around me now. - My friends Maureen, Estelle & Dianne made sure I got home safely with the aid of Dianne's cane. - I don't need to volunteer the 2nd day as Dianne got enough people to do it - I get to rest at home for the next 3 days - I have friends here who care. Thank you all :)

Not so very good visit with Oncologist. I am new with him, By my bloodwork, my leukemia is so well controlled that it no longer shows in my blood. Now unless I have had a miracle cure, it is just in remission. This is supposedly incurable. Dr. said he is uncomfortable treating me when he cannot tell if I have it. I have had to write to former oncologist in Traverse City for records to prove I have it. She is the last one who saw signs of it in my blood.
Also my hemoglobin only came up .4% with one unit of blood amd two of iron. He is insisting I have a colonoscopy to see if the problem is there which it is not it's in my stomach. So also wrote to Gastro in TC who first treated this condition for his records so he can see it's in my stomach.
My iron is still critically low so he's ordering more infusions. This is all getting very tiresome. I don't mind the colonoscopy except for the prep but It will be a waste of time and money.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, Grayson looks so happy.
Sorry to hear you are hurting and have to keep shoveling snow. Susan, praying you are feeling better soon. We hit 68 today. Not bad at all.

Karen, sorry you have to jump through hoops to get the paper work you need. Glad to hear you are in remission, Praying it stays that way.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, hurrah, hurrah, no plowing today..

Karen will your previous doctor not send your file to new doctor, would help with clarification..you must be frustrated. Here i believe it’s all on a computer that any doctor can access.

Lindakay what have you been working on to entertain yourself? How it Todd?

I think Susan you should be on a couch resting, likely keeping this busy you are doing damage..pick up a book, goodtv channel and enjoy your day.time for someone else to pick up the slack.

mom is packing up, she will be leaving 8n about a hour…I’ll help her pack the car then rather me start my car I will hitch a ride to pharmacy to get my scrips then I’ll run into Foodland for mail, eggs and bread.

So would like to play at making a small Valentine’s Day piece but I’m almost sure I’ve no red so will get some totes out and pack up some of Christmas..did 4 yesterday, hm might have been 5, back bedrooms are done, i will try for the living room today

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Last thing I made. We're the fold and stitch center pieces. My son and daughter in law just left yesterday. Need to figure out what my next project will be.
Glad you had no snow to shovel today.
Wish I was closer, I have lots of pink and red fabric you could have.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

I had a good sleep last night - 9 hours'ish.
I had a good session with my counsellor, now going to have breakfast. Wish there was someone to shovel my deck.
Chat later.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, glad to hear you got a good night sleep after being so miserable! I believe
you said earlier that your counselor is on Zoom?
Karen, frustrating to jump thru the hoops over again & like you said, waste of time & money. Hopefully your records will clear up all the questions & confusion. wonderful about the remission!
Betty, I am simply not motivated to decorate with that much stuff! I admire your effort, I am too lazy.
Linda, your folded star wreathes are so pretty.
The weather has warmed up, the wind is HOWLING so snow is almost gone!

Victoria Harbour, ON

12 totes ready for storage so far by tomorrow night other than the snowman tree downstairs all will be in totes.once all the gift have been given out then that tree will be out away..mega ornament on it..should buy a few pkgs of tissue paper to wrap them, i imagine by now they will have New Years out and valentines but there is always birthday tissue. I would venture to say it costs about $100 worth of tape for those bins, I’ve been lucky so far, NO mice made it into totes. i have the tree. To take apart, 4 sections then living room is pretty well free of Christmas except a few big pieces hanging, that is a tomorrow Job.

Susan, are there no organizations near you that you could put your name on a list to get your shovelling done.

Karen, i all my typing, meant to say it’s wonderful about the remission.

Pat, when I put all my pretties in totes I said I said I don’t know if you will ever come out again for me. Lol

Lindakay, drats how i would have loved pink and red..I’ll have to start searching or make a run to Barrie.

John is coming over to bring me that alarm for when power goes out, i wanted to pay for it but Darlene said it’s an add on the your Christmas gift.

Marie dropped i earlier, theyhave a hard time making a go of things so they should not be giving me a gift. in. my Xmas gift bag had socks, 2 boxes of chocolate, 4 Lindor chocolates and a gift certificate for $50 for a grocery store..told her absolutely not, i would not accept such a gift, said what she does for me is appreciated and a gift in itself. It was hard making her take it back but finally she did..

My cousin’s daughter is dropping in shortly, didn’t get to see her and give her her gift, hope she doesn’t come same time as John, would like to visit the both of them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thats a lot of totes, you shouldn't be lifting. Please take it easy.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, you need to do like I do. I have my garden helper, who is an all around handyman, bring down all of my boxes, empty them and then put boxes back where they were. Then I can put the decorations where I want them. This year Vern's son Brian put them where he remembered thy were last year. I got that nasty cold the day after Thanksgiving and still fighting the cough. There were a few items that were in the wrong place but Brian tried so hard, I just let them stay. Garden helper, next week after New Year, will help put everything back.

I got a message from my sister yesterday. She has Covid.

They just announced we are expecting rain on New Year's eve. Our high today is 61 with clouds. They showed on the news that some of the California mountains had winds over 100mph.

Susan, pleased you are taking it easy. Volunteering is wearing you out.

Pat, I am so hoping you get your home back.

I will return. I need to water some pots.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm hoping that the records I requested will get sent to Dr. soon. Records are not kept at Dr.s offices any more. I had to request then when i started with him but they didn't go back far enough to where I still showed the leukemia in my blood. If worst comes to worst and he stops my chemo drug, I'm really not worried about it. I will be 80 in June. My health is generally not good so I doubt it will have time to have an adverse effect on me.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Sharon - sorry to hear that your sister has covid.
Betty - yes, my counsellor is on Zoom. Nice that you have a security system that works when the power goes out!
As to my volunteering.......... it's for the Senior's Society that I'm President of. Not many will volunteer so that's why I had a double shift totalling 12 hours. Plus the 1 hour drive each way. I didn't drive thank goodness. It's once every 3 or 4 years.
"Near" would be in the next town, and I'm not sure if they come out to the hamlets in the county. I'll have to find out in the New Year when everyone's back to the Senior's Outreach office. They give cards out saying they will do "Yard Work". Whether that means the yard in winter, I don't know.
People were telling me that I needed to go to the hospital with the pain I was obviously in. Finally, I had just decided that was a good idea when Dianne showed up at the door & she took me to Emerg. They x-rayed my hip & didn't find a fracture, but figure the muscle was badly pulled or torn. Regardless, there was nothing much they could do. Gave me a shot of painkiller then told me that I couldn't continue that med as it conflicted with my bloodthinner. So, x-strength Tylenol & a muscle relaxant is what I'm prescribed. If it's just pulled/torn, it will heal in about 2-4 weeks. If it is a pelvis fracture (they couldn't tell, but I don't think so), it's 4-6 months. Not sure about bowling. I'll have to see in a week's time how I'm doing.
Friday I have my massage therapy session, for 1/2 hour.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, let's hope you are healing FAST!!! Massage therapy, oh how I miss it!!! lol

Sharon, have you seen the doctor?? If you still have a cough since Thanksgiving, I would be worried about walking pneumonia or worse.

I went to Marie's, did laundry and cut Phil's hair. I put the turkey carcass on to boil to make stock. Kept her company while she inputted into the computer all the new puzzles she bought Phil. He normally does a 300-piece puzzle per day.

I need to put the fresh sheets on the bed & start my evening reading. Give Stanley a lap to curl up on.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying there are no broken bones Susan, and that you heal quickly

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Oh Sharon that is worrisome for sure, cough shouldn’t be lasting this long.is it easy to get appointment with your own doctor?? Good for Brian, at least he tried. If I leave totes on back deck I’m sure my boys when they return from their adventure will put totes away for me..they are a 6 hour drive north, sleeping in igloo type facilities..makes me happy they can have brother time.

Susan, how are you feeling today, any better?? Likely it will be a long time healing..do you have some knitting that can fill your day,

I’m praying those reports do get there Karen, 80 is still a young age these days. With new technology and meds you might improve a lot.

Wonder how Liz is making out, if it’s extra cold everywhere maybe colder than normal.

Dianne, how are you doing?

Deb, how is Luca doing? Are you back at work?

I’m just taking a break, trying to get 14 totes put away, other than wrapping the tree that is in 4 sections Christmas is no longer upstairs. What a cyclone though..I’m hoping to at least dust and vacuum through upstairs. Oops just saw a wreath on back deck door.

Darlene called this morning, yesterday John dropped in with my gift and i gave them their stained glass piece, this morning they all tested for Covid…will have to keep an eye out on symptoms and maybe not let anyone in for a few days just incase.

Best I not get too comfy on the couch, still lots to do.

Betty - I am knitting.
Six x-strength Tylenol in 6 hours & I'm starting to feel better. I pulled the muscle again when I tried to pull on my pants this morning. Put my pullover on by laying it on the bed and scootching my head into it. Couldn't even stand up at that point.
Estelle came by to visit & picked up her beret that I knit her, and Bea called to see how I was doing & if there was anything they could do. Her husband Ron came by (and with Estelle) cleared off my deck of about 4" of ice & snow. Now Dianne can come by to visit without wiping out on the steps. We've had freezing rain in the past couple of days, and I wasn't getting out to clear the deck. Bea sent some date squares, too.
Snow & baking angels :)
