LOL... sounfs like an oldie but a goodie Susan!
Best/Worse/what did I learn today? Come chat with friends, ..a place filled with warmth..always a chair to sit and chat and feel at home!
Morning all, been out since 2:30 shovelling, Marie next door was doing hers..2
fools..
Karen, the ornament are they from the set that looks as though the are hand tattered? Sounds like you are settling in.bet you are thrilled you won’t have to make that long trip north this Christmas.
Susan, luck finding out the model..one of the most important part of sewing is finding the right iron for you…love the newer light weight ones.
still coming down so might as well keep ahead of it. Jules my plow man should be here later to clear main drive. Falling heavy so am sure by 10 I’ll be out doing another round of it.love it when it just sits on branches so heavy that the trees fluff up
Just took a hot bath, now i’ll have a hot chocolate and maybe a quick nap
This message was edited Dec 19, 2022 9:03 AM
Had my nap, can’t believe it, as much snow has fallen since my last shovelling.don’t know if I’ve enough strength/energy to do so but best i try.
Oh happy days..thought Christmas Eve was Friday night and Christmas Saturday, just gained a day
Betty, most of the ornaments I make are the FSL, Free Standing Lace, from Juju. Their designs always seem to work well.
Sounds like everyone is busy with last minute Christmas things.
I am all set here. Oldest son will be here Friday.
Betty, please don't over do it shoveling snow.
Karen i have all the juju free standing and others i bought..the one i love the best is the 3D Angel.
L8nda Kay, i am close to finishing, just playing right now but if i go out a 3rd time that will do me in and we are getting about 10” an hourgrrr..thank goodness the wind isn’t blowing.
I am done, done, done. All ready until Sat when I do a bit of cooking to take along.
10" an hour?? HOLY COW!! It's COLD here and I have become a hot house lily & don't do so well in the cold. It is 20 F and expect to be 7 on Thursday.
I have some wrapping to do and that's about it.
Still getting lots of snow. It's -20F & windchill of -40c.
Woke up to my bathroom taps being frozen. Kitchen isn't........... atm. I put a space heater in the lower bathroom cabinet & it died on me. Guess I'll have to use the hair blower. Coming into the house with my last item of groceries, I tripped on the stoop & I guess I've bruised the right shinbone. I feel a bump there and it's tender. I need bubble wrap for me.
Tomorrow I go to Wellness where I'm going to show them how to make the no-sew Christmas ball decoration. I found 4" balls, not 3" as I should have gotten, but the only other size were 2". We'll just have to put more lace & ribbon around the centre.
Wednesday we're not playing crib, so I'll stay home. Thurs is bowling, and nothing else is on until Christmas Eve at the church - 6:30 service. If the weather's not good, I'm not going. I missed it in Olds last year because of a blizzard.
Susan, if you have larger Styrofoam balls, just make your fabric squares a bit bigger. Take carebof your leg. Bruised legs hurt.
I cut the fabric before I got the Styroballs, so I'm stuck with what I have - more lace in the midsection. I just made a mistake on the size of the balls - no indication of what size they were, cuz I looked.......

On the plus side - I got 3 packages in the mail today. One is from my daughter & SIL in Winnipeg (she said not to open the shipping pkg as then I'd know what I'm getting for Christmas lol )
The other two were items I ordered from Airmiles. I won't be flying to the US so I figured I'd use my airmiles for "rewards" instead. I got a Shiatzu foot massager/heater (boy is it nice, I tried it out already) and the other is a Cotton Candy maker. I'll take it to Silver Willow for our BBQ next summer. When all of Torrington has yard sales on Victoria Day in May, people come from all over, and we put on a BBQ. It's one of our big fundraisers, and adding Cotton Candy to the mix should be fun and profitable. You can use sugar-free hard candies so the parents shouldn't be upset at the amount of Cotton Candy they're eating lol Our treasurer was sure that the parents would be upset, but I don't think so :) It's one more "fun" thing to have.

Morning, snow has stopped for today..I’m all cleared out..was out at 5 then on the couch I came..sitting trying to put pressure on my back, not sure if it doesn’t work better than Dr.Ho. Done in and the day for most just starting.
Dianne, are you snowed in..
Sharon, feeling better?
Deb,what have you been up to?
Susan, test out that machine and see how yummy the treat is? I also have air miles, was saving them to possibly go to Darlene’s this Christmas but the storm did that in..maybe I should look to see what I can get with my points. Show us your pretty project please,am sure you are so creative that we will all be in awe.
Pat came down with that cold so June decided we can go for our Christmas luncheon afterNewYears vs her coming out on her own today.
Sharon is home safely, did well at Orlando dog show, well at least her dogs did.
Was hoping she needed groceries and would be going to Midland,I would hitch a ride then she could help me carry push my cart and carry my bags as I know I cannot.
Just waxed LeeAnn’s stained glass, now I should be able to clean coffee table and dust..
Last night I finished mini mitts for the little Christmas set I made for Grayson, I’m a keepsake person, don’t know if parents do save them but I hope.
Just took out my list of ‘to do’s’. It’s slow but sure..being sick really put me behind.
I started that road map carry all for Grayson last Christmas, if I put my mind to it likely finish it in an afternoon..that is a MUST project

Pipes frozen again today - have cold water in the kitchen but no hot, and none at all in the bathroom. No showers for awhile LOL
Betty - the Cotton Candy machine - I was advised to use it outside as the fluff would fly everywhere inside.
Project - have a few atm. Knit a beret for a friend, find some pretty flowered yellow fabric to go with the the "find" in my fabric stash, finish making the "Freebie of the month" that I started back in 2009............ and the list goes on lol
Today I'll brave the cold (-42 after windchill, F & C are the same) and go to the Tuesday Social Group so we can do the no-sew Christmas balls such as Linda Kay gave me. I was going to go to town to see if I could find some 3" balls, but it's too blamed cold & it uses up gas something fierce.
That is cold Susan brrr I’d be staying in for sure. I can feel it’s getting colder, chill in the air even inside but not like you .would go out and take photo’s of how beautiful the snow on limbs are.
Candy floss machine, hmmm , thought it might be inside/outside self contained unit..maybe it’s like putting regular soap in dishwasher..all over it would go.
Sounds like a nice Christmas gathering , making a craft..bet they will so enjoy.
How far is your nearest fabric shop? Think one of my nicest quilt was blue and yellow.
Almost 4 and I’ve done nothing..should take a trip downstairs even if it’s only clean for 1/2 hour..
I have wool and easy hat patters..could make some for those in indeed.
Yikes, listening to weather on cnn, called bomb cyclone winter alert, even Atlanta Georgia with Life threatening artic blasts..some-50
Hope this storm doesn’t affect any of you. Lots of flights being cancelled, even Chicago.
I think we just watched the same weather report. Doesn't look good for those trying to travel.
Susan, that is too cold for these old bones. Think if it was that cold here, I would become a hermit. Our temps are supposed to drop to 20 at night for Christmas, them slowly warm again.
Mother Nature sure isn’t pleased with the world…such devastation!
That is cold for you Lindakay, you don’t have furnace but have space heaters right?
Poor Todd with all the weight he has lost he is sure to feel the cold. Do you have an electric blanket?
I have to pick up my meds on Saturday, ordered Chinese .. if weather is as bad as they say i will tell Jeff not to take the roads, another weekend will do
Just climbed into bed
I tried to start my car - no go, so I've plugged it in to see if that helps. My old plain-Jane workhorse of a car doesn't usually need to be plugged in. It doesn't have any of the computerized stuff in it, except to tell me what the internal & extenal temp & stuff like that. It's a 2006 Chevy Cobalt and has always been reliable. Anyway, I walked to Tues Social & no one else showed so I walked back home - 3 blocks each way. Yeah, it was cold lol
Tomorrow is when pensions come in, and I'll do a bit of shopping. I'm picking up a 1ft tall elf from a friend of mine.
I am looking forward to seeing the ornaments Susan.
Betty, tell Sharon, congratulations on the dog show.
Linda, I am with you, if Susan had not cut the fabric already I would have made the squares bigger! LOl
Karen, I hope you & Walt are continuing to feel better all the time.
Dianne, you & TH stay warm!
Sharon, enjoy your family & Christmas.
-24F, windchill -44F right now at 7:30pm.......... going to get colder & my pipes won't thaw anytime soon, I fear. At least I have water in my kitchen. I'm better off than some.
This message was edited Dec 20, 2022 7:22 PM
Praying your pipes don't burst Susan.
Yes, we have space heaters, and electric blankets. We turn the heated mattress pad on, about an hour before bedtime. Nothing like climbing into a nice and toasty bed.
I think I am finally over the cold but still have an annoying cough. Went to the salon today and had a manicure and pedicure. I usually get my nails done every 3 weeks and missed that so it had been 6 weeks. You should have seen how much my nails had grown. My manicurist told me I must be very healthy.
My DIL made cookies shaped like sweaters and they had a contest amongst them and their friends judging who had the most ugly Christmas sweater. My DIL is one of those individuals that will go out of her way to make sure all of the children have great memories. Sometimes my son is not so pleased about it but I always tell him to get over it.
Our temps are heading into the 50's and will be 66 on Christmas. We did have three days of freezing which froze my tomatoes.
I had a blood draw tomorrow fr my annual check up and it got cancelled because their 5 story building got flooded. And my dermatologist appointment that was next week got cancelled until Feb. 1. So I am free for the rest of the year. We will go Christmas caroling and all of the grandsons are in the Christmas choir. Only one that will not be here is the youngest grandson that is in Arizona on a mission for the church.
Betty I wish you didn't have to shovel that snow. I have not done it since I was a child but I still remember how heavy the snow was.
Betty you are such a good mother and grandmother with all of your gifts. I just give the all money. I used to spend so many hours buying and wrapping presents and be totally wore out by Christmas. My Grandchildren are older and the great grandchildren's is already going into their college funds.
Well it's finally a decent time that I can go to bed. I wanted to go to bed at 6pm because I was wiped but way to early.
Susan I pray your pipes unfreeze.
Karen, sounds like you are going to have a wonderful time.
Linda, I am so pleased your son will be there.
Pat, I read about the new puppies. Oh My Goodness. Are you all done with everyone else's Christmas and have time for your own? You are such a busy individual giving of yourself all of the time.
Hugs to you all. I ill check in earlier tomorrow.
It's supposed to be nice for Christmas Eve & the rest of the week, so I know by Saturday that I'll have all my water. For now, I'm happy that I have some water and not like some who have no water because they're all frozen.
I'm going to sleep now, but remind me tomorrow & I'll show you the mug hugger cookies I made to go with the hot chocolate, the night we went carolling.
Congratulations to Sharon on her wins at the Orlando shows!
I've been getting weather warnings since Monday on my phone for Thursday thru Saturday. Originally they were saying up to 24 inches of snow. As of this morning it's 2-5 inches. Wonder if we'll actually get anything the way the numbers dropped. I would like a white Christmas! But, the high winds and low temps will make traveling difficult and dangerous.
Last day of work for me for the year!
Deb
Let’s hope that is all you get Deb, just got an update, worries me the say could be 100kl winds, that mixed with flask freeze and rain..the 3 models they are going by says likely worse since 1977
I’ll get gas early am for generator and make a kit up should i run out of power
Was in town for 7am and so was half the town, guess everyone is preparing for storm and getting their groceries early. Sure hope Susan this storm misses you as you will have NO water.
Bought cotton to knit up some dishcloths to entertain myself.
Maybe Deb if you get the storm you will be off earlier..we’re you planning on any travelling?
Got Marie snow boots, hope they fit her and paint brushes for Ted as he cuts out wood designs and paints..
Came in, mad3 a salad and now it’s time to clean up.
For several years we got up to frozen pipes on Christmas day. We finally ADDED a bump out on an exterior wall and added more insultation and that worked. I have moved a LOT of times since then!
Congratulations to Sharon!
Pat - I've been told that I have more than sufficient insulation where the pipes come into my home. I don't know why it still freezes then..... I have cupboard doors open, but you know it takes longer to thaw once it's frozen. My thermostat is set at 25, so the home is nice & toasty.
I need to go & see if my car will start, then go to town.
Sunny here with not much wind action. We are expecting quite the snow storm starting tomorrow afternoon into Friday. I'll head into the village first thing in the morning and hit up the ATM and Foodland. I forgot to get money to pay the plow driver and it sounds like I will need it.
Deb enjoy your time off. Ready for Christmas ?
Susan we had the same problem in 1 of our houses. There was absolutely no reason for it to freeze but it did. I finally let water dribble from the taps in the kitchen and bathroom - end of problem.
Pat I am listening to KOMO. Seems like there is lots of ice on the hills. Have you gotten access to the rest of your house yet ?
The TH gave me a start this morning. They ran out on the frozen swamp but there is a beaver run right there. Thankfully Zeke comes immediately when I yell "Come". I think the treat he gets when he comes back is the motivator.
Last night an old friend came for a visit and brought along a guy I taught with back in '87. This fellow was a terrible teacher but a really nice guy. I had to take my prep time sitting in my Grade 8 classroom while he taught French. It was the only way he could keep control of the kids.
Karen are you ready for Christmas ?
Liz what are your plans for the holiday?
Betty make sure you don't do too much and stress your already aching body.
Stay safe and warm.
I am here earlier than yesterday. Just had avocado toast with two eggs. Broke an egg all over the counter. Just dropped it.
A young man and his girlfriend dropped by. They are here to visit his parents. Lives in New Hampshire. His parents live right across the street and have for 21 years. He has grown into a nice young man.
I watched the weather channel this morning because on the news they mentioned the storm coming your way. Big time wind and very cold temps. Better get ready to hanker down. We will be in the 60's.
Dianne, no I am still in my corner of the house. I feel sorry for my son, caught in the middle. I will be grateful when they are gone. It means I rarely, rarely, RARELY will get to see my son or grandchildren but at this point, I am thinking that is preferrable to the current situation.
Praying the weather report is wrong for you all up north. We are supposed to drop to 20 tomorrow night. That is unusually cold for us. I need to bring in the house plants.
By Sunday the weather will be much nicer (+21F). Even Saturday it will be +18F & Mon +32F By this Saturday I hope to have my water running again in the bathroom (ah......... SHOWER!!) Birdy-baths in the sink after boiling water is not easy. I have to stand on a stool to get my head to the sink. How did the homesteaders do it? Bath once a month, if that!
Morning, very still out there..likely calm before the storm.
Mom got here about noon yesterday, insisted she was driving herself grrrr
Oh Dianne, how wonderful that you have obedient dogs, so many dogs lose their lives at this time of year on unsafe ice.
Sharon nice meeting up with neighbourhood kids who are now adults, warms the heart to see what they become. Are all your plants safely covered and others brought in just incase you are hit with colder weather,
I can just picture you on the stool Susan. Lol
When Roger and i bought the cottage it was late summer, new did all the plans for building onto it but that did not help our1sr winter. Roger drilled a big hole in the ice at shore land, he worked out of town, I’d have to go out with an ice pick, break the nights layer of ice that built up. I’d say my kids might have been 7-8..bath night was a nice thing, pail after pail had to be boiled and dumped into the tub..i must have been nuts to do so
Lindakay, do you have any plants that must come in?
Must get dressed and go pick up gas to have on hand for the generator, hate having to go out when i am so comfy in my nighty, but must
Bella and mom are sound asleep, , Ziggy and I are on the couch, with every key I press my eyes get heavier..best I nap,
I have 2 succulents in pots that I will bring in.
Be careful driving.
My computer is completely jacked and I will need my son's help to get me fixed & up. It may be a while.... later
Worked all day decorating 2 Xmas hats and 6 gloves..don’t know why it took me so long..just stopped now, took meds and legs up ..mom went about an hour or so to visit Sharon, once she is home I’ll have a bath and to bed.
Wind is starting to come up, won’t be taking any chances that is for sure..moved my car to tree line, told mom where to park so the plow can get in/out without having to go around cars.
Pat that is a bummer, hope you are able to post soon.
Are any of you being affected with severe temp drops?
Temp was 61 at noon, now 38 and dropping fast.
Wow that was a quick drop..what is it suppose to reach?
In bed.., storm hasn’t started yet, hoping i don’t have a day of shovelling tomorrow..
Think the storm here starts with freezing rain.
Made myself a note in 1/2” letter saying ’get gas’ so i don’t forget.
Supposed to drop to 20. Already 28, feels like 14 with wind chill.
We are still in the high 50's headed to the 60's for the rest of the week. My poor son and his family in Spokane are in the very low 10's and then down into minus temps. Difficult to go outside. We will be in the high 30's as our lows with no wind. The wind is the killer. Still leaves on half the trees. Gardeners have brought me many large bags of mowed leaves for my compost pile. It is amazing if you are nice to everyday people how nice they are back to you.
Betty I have moved some of my succulents nearer to the house under the patio cover. I think that will protect them. My tomatoes froze but that is normal. Garden workers will be here tomorrow and I will have them remove the tomato plants. My roses are trimmed back for the season, irises are cut back and soon we will be thinning out the ivy. It s getting too high and we are going to shorten the height. With that, in the spring, the ivy will put on beautiful new leaves.
Pat, so sorry you are having computer problems. My step-son, who lives with me, is having problems with his laptop. My grandson took him to Apple today and they thought they fixed the problem but no go, so grandson is going tomorrow or as soon as he can get an appointment. They said the Apple store is packed.
Quite a few neighbors have been having problems finding eggs. When my sister was here, she got me 3 dozen from Trader Jo's. Whole food's eggs yesterday were $9. Special raised chickens. But I did find the uncured ham shanks they used to have. They are about $14 a piece and I bought another 6. They are gifts to very special friends that love something they can use.
Betty and any one in the way of this storm. I pray you are safe.
