Happy birthday Sharon. Enjoy your special day.
Best/Worse/what did I learn Today? Come sit awhile and share you day..newcomers always welcome!
Morning all, we had a day of rain and look like more today, sure could use a few more on a regular basis..hope it will revive the dead lawns.
Well hopefully someone will turn up and help you Susan take it to the dump, nothing worse than having overload on furniture
Pat, sounds like the longarm is ready to help you make treasures…you never leave it side what you get it working properly.
Having a 9 am class so best i finish my coffee..unless sun comes out I think I will work on the penguins once my floors and dusting is done, might take a run into town..John found a grinder and glass in his addict last week, last few loads done as house is gone as of the 15th.
Drats i can hear something in the ceiling of the back porch, took hose to it..I’ll bank it here and there and if no movement I’ll get ladder out so I can shove mesh in it. This morning i did see a dove on the section that is open, maybe it’s home to doves Big sighs, always something right
The start of penguins
♫♪Happy Birthday, Sharon ♪♫
We have a Lutheran church in our community, but any thrift stores are in the next town. I'll call the church & see if they know of anyone that could use it. Thanks for the suggestion, Linda Kay.
Birthday greetings Sharon, you donny want to hear me sing happy birthday, so off key but I wish you the best!
Shouldn’t have have had 2 tomato and mayo sandwiches and now I feel like having a nap..
Darlene’s brother in law brought me what the call garbage, hoses of every dimension, a metal chair to go with the other i have in side garden, a box with some really nice stained glass and a stained glass grinder, new, never used, lots of different attachments..
Then June called, she brought Tuesday a lamp she had many years ago which the top metal harp was bent and 4 panels of 8 with broken glass, just linear, she said she would put it in a corner of Alex’s room and nobody would know, decided not, bringing it back so I can salvage some of the bevels and also the base..base must be worth $120.
Amelia who came to sew was sewing her scrap quilt which i told her her 1/4 “ was perfect ..she sewed together 4 rows onto to it..all of a sudden i saw tears, she was crying because some of her blocks didn’t line up completely..i showed her flowers she could cut and add and nobody would know. I brought her upstairs and showed her some of my squared not 100%..she calmed down..poor thing
Those penguins are going to be beautiful.
Hope so, will be for Xmas
Think i need about 5 more sg pieces to look after a good part of my Santa list, so doing good so far.
Was hoping the box with glass would be a lot of clear but nope so I will have to buy different glass by square .. the clear is like buying tone on tone.
Still debating as to go and do my cores today and not have to rush this weekend.
What an afternoon, fell twice, lost my new glasses (am sure Iwill find them)
2 weeks ago after putting on a new roof the 6x6 deck support beam had a small hole, as the Celebration of Life for Gary someone said “look baby raccoons”, one came out the other did not.
From time to time in the past weeks I’ve heard some clawing, watched for the other raccoon to come out but not...
Today i looked at the white variegated metal roof inside the sun room and could see large brown spots, not a wonder it smelt bad coming in through back entrance it was urine…
got the hose out and did a number spraying ceiling, furniture and rug… took a bath as I felt dirty, sat on the couch and there was 2 raccoons, guess they didn’t like their watered down home..I should not have grabbed a broom and yelled for them to go, scared them, where did they go?? Yep right back into that hole..big sigh!!
Another spray 10 minute spray of water..
Waited half hour and got some wire cut up, made it into a ball incase they vacated and the wired ball would be enough to fill their entry.
Now to wait in hopes they wanted out again..
Marie my neighbour came as she could hear me yell…we waited and waited, they didn’t come out but I was watching, finally a glimpse, outthey came, this time I was smart enough to know if I moved I’d chase them back into the roof…watched as the ventures off .
Marie came with Ted her husband, I had made balls of wire to put in the hole. Ted got the tall ladder and up he went, filled the gap, i got him a piece of 2x4 and he nailed the entry shut.
Oh happy days, I have given them their notice…am sure they will come back tonight looking to get in..hope they don’t tear back deck screening and look for new home.
So relieved.. getting too old for this
oh Betty - you fell twice?!?! Did you find your glasses? Glad you got rid of your raccoon tenants.
Sorry to hear you fell Betty, hope you didn't hurt anything, or don't bruise too bad.
Morning, not hurt just some twisting so aching..
I hadn’t noticed the soul of my slippers unglued, got caught twice
Melanie came to visit this morning, guess I’m going for supper at the park tonight, Mel was still here when Greg called and asked me the. same thing
Going to make my shopping list and head into town
Gorgeous day
Destructive tenants that won't leave the WORST! LOL Is there any chemical deterrent that you could put on the sundeck to discourage them?? Wildlife is cute, just not for houseguests!
Why the falls Betty? That is scary!!! I am glad you have such good neighbors. Phil slid off the bed last night & Marie had to knock on neighbors' doors at 1.30AM for Brother in law & her son to help get him off the floor.
We worked on the longarm &. only got the quilt basted and 2 passes out of 7 complete. If the machine will cooperate with me, I hope to get back over today & finish the quilting on that one. We are using a leave panto over a monkey fabric quilt top. I'll include pictures when it's done.
Linda, are you starting to get a little sewing done now that Todd is doing better?
I wonder how Sharon's house guests are settling in, I am sure she is enjoying having family closer although I know that at that age, they are VERY busy with life.
Susan, I hope you can find a way to eliminate the extra furniture. Is there anyone in the park that owns a pickup that could drop it off at the dump for you? Occasionally here I see signs (like yard sales) posted that advertise people willing to make a dump run. I have NO idea the cost. Maybe that service is even posted on craigslist or Marketplace. Unless you WANT it, I would include the loveseat at the foot of your bed while you had a chance if you had to pay! Make your dump run worth it.
Heat Warning in effect and also for tomorrow too.
Zeke is exhausted. He played for a couple of hours with a Golden pup. We were out for our walk and I didn't know my American neighbours were up. The TH saw their truck and they were off. Chaos had to be separated but Zeke had a blast. It was good to catch up with them. Zeke came into the house and flopped down on a floor vent. The AC was on so he was enjoying the cool. Chaos goes into the walk in closet where there is a floor vent plus he can stretch out.
Betty you'll have a good meal out with your family. Will Grayson be there ?
Not much going on here - tomorrow I will go to the Farmers' Market and go to Sydenham to get the TH's some treats.
Deb how are you and the dogs handling the heat ?
Sharon what a good looking family you have.
Susan you probably thought of this or maybe it is too far to come pick up the furniture but the Salvation Army will take them.
So Todd is feeling well enough to cook. Great !!!
Pat I hope you can get this machine working. You sure have shown a lot of patience.
I feel like a nap but think I will just go to bed early tonight. Of course once I get into bed the Sandman disappears.
Stay safe, well and hydrated.
Yeah, the Sandman is a rude and undependable serviceman, that is for SURE! He visits who he pleases and shuns the rest of us!
I had to smile at the visual of your dogs stretched out over AC vents. My poor cat tries to find a warmer place in the house, usually against the front window, in front of the curtains, soaking up the warm rays. We've had record highs, over 10 days straight over 100 degree weather, 112 last Friday.
If Marie had not spent a FORTUNE on this machine, and I didn't REALLY want to learn how to do edge to edge pantograph on the machine, I would have given up in frustration.
Dianne - the nearest Salvation Army is an hour away, in the big cities. I've called the only church in my area, left a message, and hopefully they want to take it.
By tomorrow morning if I don't have any answers, I'll vigourously call for someone to take it to the dump.
I'm going to Three Hills later today to pick up a mature ivy plant. I love ivy.
Yes, I am slowly getting back to quilting and it feels good. Working on a carpenters wheel quilt.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone.
Betty, enjoy your dinner.
Linda, I'm looking forward to seeing your Carpenters wheel, is this the same pattern or something else? . I've only ever done one, although not "hard" I found I REALLY needed an audition board. I just didn't have any place big enough to lay it out besides my bed. I am used to making quilts that have blocks, NOT 1 huge design. Finished blocks I can lay out, stack and then go sew.
This was made to a specific size to make use of all available wall space and hide an electrical panel. It was a gift to my 2nd son, Kevin's, fiancée.
Yes, that is what I am doing.
I have to use my bed as well. But they are so easy to make.
Morning, another hot one today, want to work outside but I’m not sure how long i will be able to in the heat.first chore is the grass never did get it done.
One of my favourites Lindakay, thrilled you are back to sewing, you must have missed it so.
Dinner went well, was nice just Melanie and Greg at the trailer ,bbq chicken done to perfection, all fresh veggies. i brought strawberry cream and white cake, mushed up strawberries and whip cream..i wasn’t disappointed when Melanie said she had no room to keep it in her refrigerator so i got to bring it home.
Our township does not have a specific big o Jared pick up but if i call and make an appt and i think for 20-30 they come and you can send 3 objects to the dump.perhaps one of your neighbours might have something as well and you can share cost.
The pink/green stained glass i worked on that just needed outer bevels, not a big job so I will finish it so can have it calmed next week.
What are you all up to, hope more exciting that my cleaning
Linda, Carpenters wheel IS very EASY compared to some of the quilts you have shown us of yours!!! Do you sew it ONE complete row at a time, or do you break it into sections when you assemble?
I hope to head to Marie's shortly and pray that the longarm plays friendly with me so I can finish the Sock Monkey quilt.
Geesh!! I just moved my arm to pet Zeke and somehow I wiped out my post.
Still hot, hot, hot here. I can't imagine how people in the cities are coping if they don't have AC. Some just go to the nearest mall and camp out.
Betty the chicken sounded good to me. I rarely eat beef or pork anymore but do enjoy chicken and fish. My American neighbours are up and invited me to a fish fry this week. Scott is an avid fisherman but even he says it is too hot to be out on the water. He always takes his dogs 2 Goldens when he fishes and I guess they raised quite a fuss when he went out without them.
Very disappointed in the Farmers Market this morning. Only 3 vendors and only 1 of them had veggies. Just carrots and cucs. I bought some carrots and think I will make a carrot cake to take when I go out to dinner.
Think I will take some time either today or tomorrow and empty and clean out the kitchen cupboards and drawers. They are are in need of a cleaning.
I know I will definitely not be prancing around outside. When I was younger I worked in tobacco and was a lifeguard - out in the sun for at least 12 hours a day. To quote my sweet dad "This getting old is for the birds" Didn't even walk the TH this morning. Chaos was very disappointed when he didn't get to go with me when I went out the lane this morning. He is not handling this heat well so I am trying to limit his time outside.
Going to clean up and oil my chain saw and maybe early in the morning tomorrow I can get some limbs cut up and split. I have a splitter and it is in the shade. Tried so hard years ago to split wood with an axe but I just couldn't. DH made it look so easy.
Stay safe, well and hydrated.
Yes, I missed quilting a lot.
Pat, I get the carpenters wheel quilt layed out, then I pin each row together. I label them numerically and then bring them to the machine to sew together.
Betty, your dinner sounds nice. Have a piece of cake for me.
Dianne, please be careful with the power tools.
Almost evening, I put in a good day, as soon as I have my dessert going to crawl 8nto bed, relax and look at some patter. June was here early morning , left her broken lamp, sat outside at the table where Marie and Ted sit, there was a lovely breeze (its a corner of my yard out front) and I took it apart..so much broken, now to surf the web and use up some of the peace’s that weren’t broken.. now what to make from what wasn’t broken.
Be back in a bit, friend just dropped 8n
,
Lindakay, 1 had half, tomorrow I’ll enjoy the last of it.
Who will this quilt be for
Hope you got to work on your quilt top today
Wow Dianne we are not used to these temps, newscaster just said with our feel like it was warmer her than the Dominican and many other islands. Young lady put that chainsaw away, you will end u with a stroke. Same here, many of the markets have closed, just nobody out shopping in this heat. You sound very ambitious today .
Had some worrisome news about Caleb, his work entails 50 day canoe trip up near Algonquin Park, not a lot known, he injured his leg, in the middle of nowhere, there was other leaders so the day after hopes injury he could see he needed surgery,he left following the gps he had,got to roadside and hitched hiked to hospital..word septic was brought up.. he is now back with his group.
Jeff heard this from a Braedon and hasn’t spoken to Caleb yet.
Jeff’s message
Quilts are for none in particular. I just enjoy making them. I think I have 12 finished, last time I counted.
Sending prayers for Caleb.
Another extreme heat warning issued for today. At 6:30 am it was already 89* on the lake side deck. It just isn't cooling down at night. Considering the temperature I will put off using the chainsaw today.
Put 2 huge bags of garbage in the Escape as we have a bear somewhere on the property. After I did that last night I saw a clip on the news where a bear got inside a car. Foolishly the owner of the car locked mama bear inside overnight. Quite the mess to greet the car owner in the morning when he unlocked the car and opened the car door with a long stick. What a foolish move !! If he could open the door with a long stick he should have done it the night before. There were 2 cubs waiting for their mama to get out of the car.
Chaos needs some positive thoughts sent his way. I don't know if it is just the heat or the heat is making something else worse. He's not eating except of course treats.
He cries in pain when he goes to get up when he is on the floor. I hand fed him some kibble last night.
Hope Caleb's leg is healing well. It is concerning when you hear the word septic.
LK it must feel good to get back to your sewing.
Betty Ziggy isn't going out at night now is he ?
I've been up for a couple of hours but already feel like a nap. I'll lay on the bed and read and if I fall asleep that's OK.
~~~~~ to everyone. That might be the only tiny breeze you feel all day.
Stay safe, well and hydrated.
Be careful if you have a bear outside.
Morning, like Dianne temps yesterday didn’t reall fall during the night, almost seems no air to take in, thank goodness there is a small breeze, not enough to move branches but at least enough to move the leaves..
Prayers for Chaos, how old is he now?
June called me last night to say on the way home just as she passed the pizzeria next door there was a raccoon that hat been hit feel sad about that..yes Dianne there are bears around here as well, so little food in the woods because of heat, then our new garbage cans they can’t get into they may be aggressive because they are starving.
That is a lot of quilts, you will be ready for Christmas for sure.
Spoke to Jeff last night he made light of it and yet he told Greg and Paul after his call from Braedon that he was worried..for me they try to shield me so i don’t worry, I’d rather be told all.
Even with temperature we had yesterday. i put in a good day,put bevels on the pink and bevel piece, cut grass, did some deadheading then worked on the lamp shade i got from June…i will post photo of lamp shade then a container of useable glass I can make something from. I also sat out and cut the good leather from johns jacket, will post photo’s of the jacket and the leather I got out of it.
Will go out and so a bit of deadheading and get back to my sg penguins
What will you all be doing in this heat
You have been busy. Why are you cutting up that good jacket?
Dianne, please keep us updated on Chaos. Praying he is feeling better soon.
Sorry to hear about the raccoon getting hit.
Sorry to hear that Chaos is not feeling wonderful. Prayers for your sweet dog.
Betty, I would be worried too! Prayers for your family, especially Caleb.
I have had LONG talk with Phil about drinking his water or he'll be back in hospital. I get so frustrated with him for NOT doing some simple things to improve his health (and relieve some stress for Marie).
Forecast is for it to drop to 56 F at 6AM Monday, wouldn't THAT be nice!!! It's been less than a 100 during the days, closer to 80 until about 10 AM, that is livable temperature.
Still had some troubles with the longarm. I had been doing so well & then issues! RRrrrr, Marie called shop & they sent a tech out. I had run out of thread, put new bobbin in & it just kept breaking thread. Triple checked the tension with TOVA, & that I had bobbin in right, I cleaned & oiled bobbin case, used canned air on tension discs, rethreaded machine, same problems. THEN changed needle and it was shredding thread. Dustin (tech) sat down & immediately pointed out I had put the needle in wrong!!! THAT does not explain the issues prior to the change of the needle but whatever the issue is, we got it worked out.
Soooo... Sock Monkey quilt 57 x 76 is done except the binding, somehow that got lost at Marie's. It is not perfect but very cute, I am pleased. I'll buy new fabric, finish binding & post pics. There are still at least 6 quilt tops that are complete & ready for longarm, others that are close.
The NICU (Neonatal intensive care unit) is looking for blanket donations & we hope to get some made. It would make good practice as they are only 28 x 36. I figure if we make 8 inch blocks, 3 across x 4 down, & add 2 inch borders we have a perfect 28 x 36 & it would be a doable small project for Marie to gain confidence in her piecing skills. .
108°f feel like
Went out twice and worked in harden, decided that today is not a garden day
Cut 5 more pieces for sg, i will go downstairs and tweak them. By then it will be around 2:30pm, still too early to do nothing but think i will…
My head is rested on a pillow on couch and eyes are getting so heavy, sandman must not have left my street nap time
Betty - Have you heard anything new about Caleb? Yes, septic isn't a word you want to hear, but maybe they were saying the leg Isn't septic?!?!
Dianne - Sorry to hear Chaos isn't at his best.
Linda Kay - that IS a lot of quilts. Do you have anyone you would gift them to?
I took 2 christmas podium banners to my church today, and one 6ftx2ft one I made. I was remembering the one I made before, to which this is the twin. This one's a cross, and the 1st one was a dove descending into flames. Both were stained glass pieced quilts. The dove one was given to the church I attended in Calgary, and now that it's disbanded, I'm hoping to get it back. I sent a message to a friend of mine, asking if she knows what happened to it. The cross one I have.
You put a lot of effort in you church banner..I am sure they will be treasure..the dove would be easy, well not easy but do able in stained glass..really like it..mega work.
Sure hope you can locate the other.
No news about Caleb
Ziggy is here nudging me,guess it’s bedtime
I have Caleb in my prayers.
Karen, did your daughter have some kind of stencil, or was it free hand art? VERY cool, I hope she raised big bucks with those!
Maybe I misread the posts about Caleb, but I thought they were saying they were concerned about sepsis but he was treated and OK. They would have kept him in the hospital if it was septic. But hey.... that was my interpretation, but that does not mean he still does not need prayers of healing!
Susan, I especially liked the dove banner!!! did you use black bias tape over raw seam applique to get the stained-glass look? It's sure beautiful!
Pat, my daughter has a special printer she named Eddie. It prints anything you can put in a computer. It has really upped her business.
Karen, well, it is WAY COOL!
My murdered friend's Celebration of Life is this morning. I have lots of errands to run this day and need to get moving.
