The heating guy got the leak stopped, it was good to see a dry basement this morning. Right now the pipes to and from that radiator are capped off. They'll replace the pipe when I get the new boiler, later in the spring or summer.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? A blessing room for friends of old to Chat and a group that ALWAYS welcomes newcomers..come sit a spell!
Pat you had me laughing about Stanley not being subtle. Kai is exactly the same. I know exactly what he wants needs or thinks he needs. Right now I am being given the stink eye by both as I have no biscuits or treats in the house.
Bitterly cold here today with the wind howling and blowing off of the lake. The freezing rain was nowhere as bad as forecasted. I still won't venture out until the lane is sanded.
I don't even want to walk by the scale at the moment. I rarely make a meal for myself. I just can't summon up the energy. I think 1 of the reason is that time from about 5 - 8 is when Warren and I would make dinner together. He was an excellent chopper. Cereal, sandwiches and cookies are my go to even though I know I shouldn't.
Deb thanks for the info. I will see if I can get it from Amazon first. I started giving him low dose aspirin. It still hasn't sunk in his head that when he goes outside he rips and tears around for the first 10 - 15 min then slows down. Kai is a momma's boy and never lets me out of his eye sight. I wake up in the night because I am feeling hot and guess who is pressed against me or sprawled over me ? Kai gives off an enormous amount of heat just like Diesel did.
Betty have you heard from Liz or Judy ?
Lazy day here. I couldn't fall asleep until 4 am. Like Betty I was going to get up but I turned over the my brain slowed from revving on high to low enough to fall asleep. I also have tinnitus and that really gets in the way of falling asleep.
Stay save and well.
I have an apron I will use as a template. It's a "slip over your head" type so is 2 sided and ties at the side. I know that Una will be happy with it. I called her to tell her, and she's thrilled. I'm going to put a pocket all the way across, and sew it into 3 sections. When you're older, you don't want ties at the back, so this will tie at the sides, and she'll have coverage on the back as well as front (in case she's out in the garden & wants to sit down). She wants to be able to use it in the garden. She says she likes a "fuller" apron from side to side, so this will do the trick.
The scale is NOT my friend lol
Yesterday my elderly neighbour (with lots of health problems) cleared off my car & deck (I didn't hear or see him do it) because he needed a ride into town. What a sweetheart! I was hoping to take the morning off, cuz I had Social Group in the afternoon, and bowling in the evening. How can you turn down a request like that, when he's so nice?
Last night at bowling, I fell on the lane, right on my 2 knees......... OUCH. I can't put pressure of any kind on them since I had them replaced in 2017, so this was painful. No bruising, but they were hot to the touch, and my tummy was churning from the shock of the fall. With someone's help (from behind), I was able to get up. This was in the beginning, at practice time, but I knew that bowling would keep me loose, and I didn't stiffen up then, or even by this morning. I'm fine. Right knee is still a little tender, but it's ok.
Susan, sorry to hear about your fall. I like the cartoon I saw in Facebook. "I should not get down without a plan to get UP." both of my kneecaps are bad, so I try to avoid anything that puts them in contact with the ground. Getting up is NOT pretty. I tripod up with my big butt in the air.
Maybe a single Ritz cracker with some peanut will get you back into the dogs' good graces?
Lordy, nice to see all chatting..
Lindakay, no wait8mg for a call from specialists office, who know how long that will take
Am feeling a tad better today, finish quilting June’s quilt, few things just aren’t so, i will add a few things in the morning.
Deb, glad you were able to get a temporary fix..less worry for you..do you have a valve If something went wrong you could shut it off?
Pat, i wouldn’t be taking the long route, yikes 8 hr compared to 4..as you say, you could have travelled when weather is better.
Susan, you could have so easily broken a hip/arm..you will be sore tomorrow, usually takes a few days before you feel the pain.
Imagine Karen will be close to home if not home tonight.
Marie came over this afternoon with a container, 2 large pieces of her birthday cake, the day before with 3 humongous cookies, then I wonder why the pounds are adding up..guess i could not eat them right? Lol
Dianne, i did not venture out today because all she ice..lots of accidents in the area
Greg dropped in, i was already in bed at 4:45didn’t stay too long as he bought a best massage chair, said his back was sore so wanted to get home, get it in the house and see if it helps. Wanted me to come over and try the chair, nope that would do my neck in.
Went on to tell me about the trip, he couldn’t stop laughing when he told me about a catered dinner they had..all Italian, 12 course..had to pick 3 then 3 etc
His first course was fork,spoon,knife..everyone had different, Jeff had toothpick, soup and bread, and the meal progressed with other fun options..lots of laughs
He leaves Friday morning with 25 guys snowmobiling Sudbury..never stays still, wonder where he gets that..
Noah’s birthday tomorrow, Greg wasn’t sure of plans.
Know I’m missing someone, hope not
Oh my! That is some chair. Hope it is a good one for him.
I talked to Judy a few weeks ago. Her and hubby were getting ready to go to Arizona for a vacation. She stopped and had a cold one with Kim, from DG.
Susan, sure hope you're not too sore from your fall.
Thanks Lindakay, Judy must be feeling better then. Hope her trip to Arizona isn’t by motorcycle, that would do her in.
Susan, that is quite the scarf, wind won’t penetrate it on a blustery day.. great way to use up scrap wool and also entertaining yourself.
Greg sent me photo of Noah and Melanie in the chair, he will have to stay inline to use it. Called Noah for his birthday, meh said he is sore all over, guess it worked up some muscles he never knew he had so was getting in hot tub to smooth them.
Sewed the hanging sleeve on June’s quilt, now for the border..as i do a stitch my head gets heavier and heavier..going to kick myself off the couch and get binding on.
Somebody is happy today..
he's sure a cutie
I enjoyed the trip but I really need an infusion and am having a hard time walking. My EGD is scheduled for next Wed. but it won't help me without the infusion. I can't walk without my cane and even then just for very short distances. I'm tempted to go to the ER just to get the infusion.
Our dear friend's service was very nice. Our families meshed over 20 years ago. My daughter met Cynthia when both were doing Princess House home shows. They quickly became besties and all were coming up to the lake for holidays. Cyn is right between my daughter and I in age so we worked it into a threesome. Laura is Cynthia's daughters God mother so I say I am her God grandmother. Elizabeth grew up thinking we were really related. Cyn. was quite surprised when I walked in she said What on earth are you doing here. Told her I just couldn't not be there.
Spent a couple days with each of my kids except youngest, He and wife are caring for her son who was severely injured and wheelchair bound, so no extra room at his place. Also got to visit for a couple hours with a friend.
Trip home was long yesterday and after we got here I had a hard time getting sleepy. I always feel like I'm still moving after a long car ride. Finally was able to go to bed around 4. Probably about when you were getting up Betty.
Today is dealing with mail and unpacking. Will need to do monthly bills in next couple days.
Our weather is mild but we have had tons of rain. Rained hard all last night. Lots of local flooded roads. We are OK as we are on a hill.

Didn't know you went home for a funeral.
Sorry to hear that.
Glad you got to visit family and friends.
Think you should go for it Karen, off to emerge..know you don’t want to but if you know it’s what is needed then get it before it’s critical..know you had to go but these trips are so hard on you.. do you take naps when you are at the kids or do you try and get in every minute of the day?
Smart lady, know i will never buy another house but if i did it would be on the highest hill lol
You are almost dead on Karen, was awake at 4:10am, watched a Hallmark movie, got up at 5:30
They are calling for a bad snow storm tonight, i keep thinking the end is near, i hope..
Melanie called this afternoon as did Greg wanting me to come over for supper, celebrate Noah’s 24th, I so don’t want to go but must..find more I stay home on my own the more I want to stay home.
Mel said it’s very icy in their yard and maybe Greg should come get me but i would rather have my own wheels..won’t be staying kind so i can leave when i want.
Got binding on June’s quilt So just sitting quietly hand sewing
Drats, Mel just called, said Greg was getting a haircut in town at 6 so supper wouldn’t be until 7:00. Too late for me
Drats again, Greg just called, he is picking me up at 5:30, bringing me to his house, go8ng for haircut, we eat then he will bring me back…
LOL... sometimes kids just won't let us do our thing or "not"!
Very icy all over, actually Greg fell..
Loved my visit but Noah was there with Kilo his dog, all muscle
When I came in he got all excited, tried to get my attention, wasn’t trying to bite me but nipped me, luckily i had gloves on
After supper i was petting him, i stopped, he took his,paw to say pet me more, nail was sharp, cut into my arm..
I said I felt like a war casualty.
I’m in bed but neck is bad, trying to talk myself into getting up for Doc5or Ho but think I”m too lazy.
Greg is on his way to Walmart..leaving at 6am for Sudbury..wanted to buy sausages and buns, he will book on trail, that and hot chocolate. Hope the storm we are together tonight and early a.m. doesn’t prevent him from going.
Hope you had a nice visit with family, despite getting scratched by the dog. Keep it clean so it doesn't get infected.
Sorry that your grandson's dog is "abusing you" out of misguided love & attention seeking.
.
We had snow, rain and a combination of both yesterday. low of 33. Was suppose to be 29 but a lot of cloud cover held the temps higher.
Karen, you were so sweet to go to the funeral. What a beautiful story. I do pray you get your infusion.
Betty my daughter invites me over all of the time and the majority of the time I turn her down. Just like my own home and my own schedule.
I started making an asparagus soup today and it ended up being a kitchen sink soup. Cooked it all together and then pureed it. Added some half and half when I served it and not bad.
I have no appointments for the rest of week and nothing next week.
Wow. That's unusual weather for you Sharon. Praying you didn't lose any plants
Good afternoon.
Where is everyone?
Drats, i must not have pressed send, wrote a long post this morning either that or it floating in cyber space
Commented on Sharon’s asparagus soup
Nothing better than a soup you just add everything in.was watching a show the other day and for cream in soup the use carnation milk
Was asparagus from your garden Sharon
What were you up to today Lindakay?
Wonder if Karen got her infusion?
Not yet, I will wait to see my Dr. on Wed. Last time I went to ER, DR. there treated me like foolish old woman. Said nothing was wrong and sent me home.
Good chilly morning. It is -11*F here. We got a foot of snow yesterday. I think it will be June before it all melts.
Haven't been able to walk the TH as there is ice under that snow. I took a tumble when I got out of the Escape on Wed. Ended up flat on my back. The lane is plowed but even the plow guy warned me last night to be careful as it is so icy. Of course Kai is flying high - wish I could tap some of his energy.
Sharon soup sounds delicious. Asparagus is my favourite veg.
Oh Karen I am so sorry you were treated that way at the ER. I know they are overworked but still checking your tongue should be mandatory in the ER.
Betty I too thought I had posted here yesterday but I don't see it.
Stay safe and healthy.
Morning, same her Dianne, -11 with a feel like -14..
Yes that ice is hidden below a light coating of snow which makes it more dangerous.
Bet you are hurting big time today.
Karen, might have been a bad day for a doctor or a nurse and if you went this time they could get you the infusion and it would save you getting weaker by the day, Wednesday’s a long time away I worry about you dear friend
Asparagus is one of my least favourite vegetables would have to say my best is carrots.
Just cleaned my craft room as Ezra and Mason are coming this morning, Ethan is going ice fishing. Not sure what Mason will do but I set up the embroidery machine to do a unicorn on a top of a towel so he can make one of those bath towels, every time he comes he goes on about unicorns so I thought I’d treat him nothing hard in directing him how did change threads colours, press star and stop etc
Although it wasn’t supposed to snow today it’s coming down lightly, sure hope we’re close to the end of it. I talked to Joe yesterday and he was saying the very shortly he’ll have to go in part time at his regular job which starts big time in May but said he would try and look after me the best he could so let’s hope the storms are few and far between.
Meant to ask you Sharon how is your grandson doing is he liking his new role in the world?
Good morning.
Just thought it was strange, no one posted yesterday.
May have been a DG glitch.
Dianne, I hope you're not too sore today.
I took the day off, and stayed home, in my jammies all day yesterday.
Guess I have been over doing things, and didn't realize it. I have had back surgery and I know, I can't sit or stand too long. It takes me 3 to 4 hours to get a quilt quilted. Depending on design and size. When I got home Thursday afternoon, I knew it was time for a day off. Doing much better today.
Linda, sounds like the good news is that you caught it, know what to do to prevent further pain from your back.
The Unicorn towel sounds like a lovely idea!!! He is going to LOVE it!!
A former classmate of mine, John, & wife Viv called me last week and we set up a dinner for last night. I had only met his wife 20 years ago but she had such a good time at our class reunion then, now, having moved back to this area, she wanted to get together. She is a fiber artist, showed me some beautiful rugs she had made on her loom.
They have a beautiful home with professional landscaping they are ready to make more custom for them. They sold their home in Corvalis, it was over 70 years old and beginning to need more maintenance than they wanted at this age (with HUGE gardens).
We had the nicest visit, and I am looking forward to seeing more of them. John is an engineer, recently retired. He is VERY outside orientated, hiking, kayaking, golf, bicycling etc. Viv has done many years of volunteer work at various places, the most recent was 10 years at a thrift store than benefitted a pet shelter.
Dinner was at 5.30, I left at 1AM! We talked and talked. Next time, I will set an alarm on my phone to end the night sooner. I never checked the time but asked more than once, if they were ready to call it a night & they assured me they were still eager to talk.
Still snowing,
Ezra just left, was hard keeping him focused while the stitching was happening, his mom sits and reads and if I have to say something I do..he did get his pie pie done, next week he will bring a towel and we will finish his project.
Lindakay when you say you took day off was that from your regular schedule, quilting your own quilt top or are you back quilting at a shop? Yes, I’m sure standing and sitting would be rough on your back. Best you rest it all weekend. Do you use salve or tense machine to help?
Holy wah Pat, funny they didn’t ask you to spend the night lol
How nice to reunite with old friends. Nice that they are still active..some beautiful pieces done in fibre art techniques.
June dropped in to see her quilt, she really likes it..she was off to Walmart, should have had her drop me off a bread
Linda dropped in fir 5min on her way to Penetang, we couldn’t chat because Ezra was here..don’t know why she made such a trip to give me a birthday gift…too old to be getting gifts.
That lovely health food restaurant Roots that is next door is closing by end of month..had enough of the landlord who I am sure is hard ti deal with..landlord is back in Greece, moved before his many court cases came up fir sexual abuse to young girls who previously worked for him..not only will the restaurant be missed but the couple who ran the restaurant were always doing community events..they will be missed.
would like to make a salmon sandwhich, can decide if the bread i have is from last week or week before so guess no sandwhich..i always mark down the expiration date, this time I did not nor did I keep the expiration tag. If i were to run to Foodland I might as well run to midland.. looks wicked out there so home i will stay I guess.
Ziffy is laying next me me snoozing, maybe i will lay with him as well.
Pat, glad you reunited with them. Sounds like you have a wonderful artist friend.
No, I am not back at the shop. Just at a friend's home that let's me use her machine. Hubby rubs my back with theragesic when needed. Wish I had a machine like you do.
Morning all -2 in my neck of the woods.
Lindakay do you know have Dr. Ho machines available in USA?
As for the quilting I actually have my frame low enough i sit to quilt, use a office chair with rollers so just myself as i need to.
Headed to Midland at 7:30am seeing it was clear, no sooner did I get my groceries done there was a blizzard happening, had a few more things i wanted to do at that end of town but thought i best head home.
Needed an iron and a thank you gift for Marie so I decided to stop at Walmart..rushed to get both items so i could get home before the worse of the storm, as I left the sun was shining.
Wanted to go to Dollarama and get pain patches but Sunday they open at 10.. grrr
Sky is quite dark behind the sun so know more weather is on its way.
As i sit, the sun is shinning in, maybe a nap is due?
What are you all up to today
Good morning.
Glad to hear you made it home safely.
I haven't checked to see if those machines are here. I am sure they are.
Not doing much today. Need to sweep and mop again. Dogs keep going in and out. And they are both shedding.
Betty your blizzard is just starting to move in here. I hope to go into Kingston tomorrow as the forecast says sunny. I'll make the decision when I get up.
Mr Kai chewed some leather off of a recliner I have in the bedroom. It was about a 2 sq in area but it is really noticeable. Grrr. He must have gone under the quilt I have on the chair and chewed it when I was out. He hates being left behind.
Linda I was happy to read you were able to work on your quilt.
I thought of you ladies who sew when I saw a piece on TV. A lady in Boston who sews makes pillowcases for the kids in the hospital. She buys up a lot of fancy fabric when it is on sale or being discontinued. Both the kids and the staff are delighted to get the pillowcases.
Nothing pressing on my agenda today. I'll shovel off the steps tomorrow when the sun is supposed to shine. I need to get some more ice melt that is easy on the TH's paws and I can only get that at Pet Smart.
I will start a roast in the crockpot and maybe turn it into a stew. I put it in the oven for about an hour last night just long enough to get some rare beef for my dinner. Warren always used to say you just had to take a steak through a hot room and it would be perfect for me.
Betty have you noticed prices going up in your Foodland ? They sure are here. Gas is up too.
Stay safe everyone.
Linda, the dogs & their shedding and tracking mud, the BARKING when people come; those are all things that make it challenging to share the house. I have not had a dog as an adult and these 2 labs shed like crazy.
A friend gave me her sampler template set of Westalee rulers (complete with machine foot, slider cover etc. . I picked it up yesterday and I am blown away by all the fabric she gave us (Marie & I) . These are NOT little pieces. Almost 4 yards of each of several of them and PRETTY!! There are 2 sets of B&W fat quarters more than 5 yards of the B&W small check (and it's almost 60 wide). This is just a small portion of what she sent.
I am cooking for a friend tonight. We have only gotten together a time or 2 since Covid, although we have talked on the phone a few times. She is VERY serious about reducing the chances of getting Covid. She understands my living situation so will not be surprised by our eating at my cutting table! Back when I "had a whole house" we used to get together for dinner here.
Dianne, I hope you are not too sore after your fall.
Pat, that was so nice of your friend to give you all that fabric. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
We have a warm up coming this week into the 70s and then at the end of the week back into high 50s and low 60s.
My soup was delicious and have enough for one more dinner for me. I am one of those people that can eat the same thing for several days.
Dianne, you are right. Everything is going up. I went to order Emma's dog treats and didn't. They went from $7.49 to $13. I looked at Emma and told her mommy was going to have to make her some treats.
Tomorrow Emma is getting her teeth cleaned and a fatty tumor removed from the top of her hip.
Betty, so pleased you are feeling better. And you stay budy. an individuals asked me thr other day how I could live by myself. I told them if I didnt have my gardening I would be in trouble. But with gardening, and taking Emma for to ealks a day and chstting with neighbors while i am gardening fills my day. The conversation started because she asked what I watched on TV and I told her i did not watch TV until at least 6pm.
Pat, that is lovely material. What a nice gift.
Linda, are you feeling better. The border has disappeared from the news.
Karen, where are you. Did you get your infusion.
Grandson in Tucson is able to call his mother once a week. But I do not seem to get to much info from those conversations. DD and DSIL are going to St Louis because Baby George Henrie will be blessed at church on Sunday. DD went back yesterday and DSIL is following on Thursday.
Step son is still here. We ust passed 5th month. I drove over there yesterday and they have done minimal work. SIL is an sttorney and when they get back from St Louis, I have asked him to give them a call.
I got my potatoes planted Saturday and will buy my tomatoes plaants and get them planted this week.
Hugs to you all.
Ouch, from $7.49 to $13???? WOW
Our dollar store just went from $1 to $1.25. Some people think "it's only a 25 c, but don't realize that is 25% increase. For some of the folks, that will be hardship. There doesn't appear to be ANYTHING that is remaining the same price, & some things are just ridiculous.
It was really nice to get together with Sheila and she was a trooper about eating my overly green food, skipping the pasta for sauteed celery & onions. Some people's idea of a salad is iceberg lettuce and tomatoes, I'm more of a chopped kale & cabbage, Cranrasins & seasoned nuts. I'm feeling better so that makes it easier to continue. I'm trying to reduce the inflammation and improve my sleep. (Besides lose weight).
Good morning. It is bitter cold here so I am sure Betty is in the deep freeze too. I put the last blocks of wood I had brought in around 4 am. That wood stove is just smacking its lips and saying feed me.
Sharon I am a book reader and have been for years. That has given me the opportunity to see shows made years ago as new to me. For years we didn't even have a TV but then Warren wanted to see if Nixon would be impeached. We purchased a tiny B&W. Every few months we would turn it on to see if it would work. lol
Karen how are you feeling ?
Pat your salad sounds delicious.
Stay safe and warm.
Two more days until EGD and hoping at that time to convince Dr. to check blood count so he can order infusion.
Trying to hang tough.
Sharon, not much is in the news other than the Ukraine story.
Our border is still a mess. Illegal immigrants are still coming over by the hundreds. Not many are sent back. Pretty sad.
Karen, I hope they get on that infusion and other treatment you need. My heart goes out to you.
Linda, just because the border is no longer the focus of the media, it does not mean its cured as your post points out.
I need to get the backs ready for the quilts and get them dropped.
It was 40 F yesterday, that sure felt better than 17.
