Best/Worse/What did I learn today? A blessing room for friends of old to Chat and a group that ALWAYS welcomes newcomers..come sit a spell!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning.
That's too cold for these old bones.
Drive safely.
Hope you find your fabric.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, found my fabric, roads were almost clear, sunshine, love that when driving

Here is hoping I’ve make sure I have enough or similar for 24 embroidered paw, only 3” by 12”

Just put on Joyce’s. Roast, Augusta and ranch dressing, put so much in crock pot can barely put the lid on..that will be weekend supper.

Long weekend this weekend, Family Day ..most of my family are away..normally I’d be in Buffalo with the girls..big sigh!

Didn’t have my breakfast so I will have porridge, quilt some more on June’s quilt while embroidery machine dies it’s think with the paws..won’t work too long at it so i don’t aggravate my shoulder.

Young lad who sews with me Saturday said he would like to make something for his grandfather who is blind, doesn’t get around much, any ideas ladies?

Did your group Lindakay come up with any interesting project??

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeff took a photo of a bear rug, hung in lodge..can you imagine encountering him

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Your cats blocks are AWESOME!!! I want to do that quilt someday.

One of the 4 in our BOM Embroidery group strong armed Marie & I into entering our quilts into the quilt show next month. Maire is BRAVE, we have a pantograph class & then she is doing her quilt. It will be her first pieced blocks & her first pantograph. I am taking cowards out and have it longarmed for me, then I can be guaranteed it will be ready.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning.
Our quilting group, works on what ever project we are working on. Sometimes someone will teach us something new to us.
Good luck with the quilt show Pat.
I have put that cat quilt on my list of things to do.
43 degrees this morning. Supposed to be 70 this afternoon.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Blizzard here since yesterday afternoon, plow has been early this morning but it will have to be done again..looks like an entire week,of,same..am sure Dianne is having same.

The machine embroidery stick was the best I’ve ever used for instructions..i am quilting on June ‘s quilt i think I’d best work on mine..time is passing quickly to get what was on my February list.

Pat, you will enjoy the quilt show..will you have your quilt ready or can you bring others you’ve,done?

Lindakay, you will remember right to pass on those little tidbits of ideas you get from the girls

Photo’s are mixed, avalanche near Jeff and Greg, today they are up in mountains, drats, don’t like that avalanche season started yesterday, Today they are in the mountains, worry about avalanches, big sigh

Today Evan Mason we’re busy

Evan wanted a rug for his dog, so a rag quilt he made with leftover fabric from all the p.j’s

Mason said i wanted a ba,go for his grandad who is bling and 8n aa wheelchair…we following a tut9rial and he made a bag..they recommended the strap he wanted the way video showed, not how I would do ..he did a wonderful job..he kept looking at it and said maybe he would keep it lol

The boys are doing great with their projects!!
Beautiful scenery in Newfoundland, but, the idea of avalanches is scary. I would be sick with worry, too.
It's always something!! Radiator pipe has a steady leak. I called the heating guy, being Saturday, costs are higher, said I will wait until Monday, that gives me time to try to clean the house. If the leak gets worse, I'll have to have him out right away, but, if I can wait it out, it'll save me $$$ It just concerns me, if this one sprung a leak, are the others going to give out, too??

Victoria Harbour, ON

What kind of heating do you have Deb? Do you have duct tape, that might keep it dry until Monday..could just be a weak spot.

My boys are crazy

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good job on their projects Betty. Sounds like they love sewing. They have an awesome teacher.
Yikes on that avalanche. I would worry so much.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, so pleased to hear you are doing better. We are 70 today and will be the same on Sunday. Then colder weather moves in but nothing like yours. We will get down into the mid 50's but the terrible wind comes with it.

I dug my garden area today to get it ready to plant some potatoes. Now i have to cut the potatoes and let them harden off. Why am I planting potatoes. Because I had some go to seed and did not want to waste them. Also going to plant some lettuce but i will wait until the wind is gone. Wednesday will definitely be a day I stay inside because the high will be 48. That is usually our cold.

I am still going through photos and that takes a long time.

My granddaughter and her two children are here for another week. They think our weather is wonderful but they have been in the 20's and snowing. They live in St. Louis.

Dianne and Betty, your weather would make me very miserable.

Time for Emma's second walk. All is well in the SW but looks like the drought will continue.

Hugs to all of you.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Betty, I have hot water radiators. The subflooring is soaked, and the drip is slowly getting worse. I hope it will hold out until Monday. If it warms up enough, I could turn off the boiler and the water supply, but, with all the problems I've had with it, I'm afraid it wouldn't restart! Thinking more seriously about replacing it with forced air, then I could get AC, too!! Putting in vents couldn't be any more expensive than replacing all the water pipes to the radiators. I think it's all too wet to try to put duct tape on.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, -9 with a feel like -17..

Your granddaughter will enjoy more time in warmer climate Sharon..

How are you making out with photo’s? I had large brown envelopes with family names on them, that way when i found a photo that had to do with their family i went the photos..i also have one more tote to go through.

You made me chuckle, weather is making me miserable as well, not really i don’t mind it, am comfy inside but won’t hurt my feeling when it’s gone so i can play in the gardens..still mind boggling that last March which is only weeks away that was end of our winter.

Last year Sharon I looked at the area on the right side of back shed..mis a real garden..neighbour’s along that side cut down trees, i will check how much light it get come spring and just maybe plant a little garden..i remember grandma buying potatoes with what she called eyes in them so I’d help 1/2 or quarter …hope the area isn’t all rock, hmmm could put that on my Mother’s Day list, the boys could get a tiller and get it done,

Deb, replacing it sounds quite expensive, likely your repairman will be able to look at piping and see what he recommends … always happens at the worst of times.

woke up at 4 hearing Jules with the plow then couldn't fall back to sleep so decided to start my day..upstairs housework done,it’s a long weekend here,

Coffee here with heating pad on my shoulder, feels stiff this morning so while i drink my coffee won’t hurt to to enjoy the heat.

Will head downstairs shortly, i embroider monogram pillow for Marie, it needs and insert.,then spent time between the kitty piece and june’s quilt.

Family day tomorrow, not that it make sa differences my guys are away.

They are enjoy themselves..

Meanwhile back in our Neck of the wood, Kyle and Destiny’s are enjoying local trails
And Melanie gets to sit with Grayson

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhh, Marie is usually modelling at 4-5am, must be sleeping in on her birthday..we only had about 3” of snow so i did the pathway between her house to my garbage can area..she uses mine as there is nowhere to put 3 big bins at her house…the last night got a message from Joe that should it snow Tuesday he would be unable to do the back area and would be here Wednesday morning..
He has similar to me so yesterday he only did a few clients whose driveways he does, mine is done early am so asked if ok he left it til today..i miss shovelling light snow so this morning i did the back, cleaned off my car and cleared around the car..didn’t take long and i feel refreshed.

The wind is really up, by noon our storm is suppose to move in..

Time for downstairs play
Pays to get up early..watch me want out about 1pm

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning. That's an early morning or you, or anyone.
Love the photos of your family. Grayson is growing so fast.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

There is a lady from our quilt group that has a longarm machine. She has graciously allowed me to come over and use her machine. I got this quilt done Friday. Using a Pantagraph.
It is a one block wonder 4 patch.

It’s lovely LindaKay,

How kind,of her to let you use it..does she live nearby?

love using pantograph..I have quite a few, must do one..Sharon asked if she could
Pick, one and there is a quilt she is not that fond of so won’t go through all the quilting she does in regular quilts.

What is the design of the one you used?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

She lives about 6 miles from me.
I don't know the name of the design, I will get it next time I go.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Like it,,

My eyes keep getting heavier and heavier, almost think it’s the new pill, feel mellow, not in pain,

Kyle came and synchronized my 2 iPads, can leave one downstairs and one upstairs..we had a nice visit.

Then i went over and brought Marie the pillow I embroidered her family name on for her birthday today.

Well if I sit here much longer I’m doomed so downstairs I go

Verona, ON

Freezing rain coming my way Tuesday. You too Betty ?

Plow guy was in again. I am not going to have any fun money left over this year. I stash away what I think I will need to pay Dave for the season. What's left at the end of the season is my fun money to do with what I want.

Deb I read something this week that set me back on my heels. I was trolling Rotti ads and found 1 that said 4 of the 10 in the litter were born with docked tails. I checked with a couple of Rotti breeders here in Canada and they hadn't heard of that either. Then I contacted the Rotti guru in England. She had heard of it and said that other breeds like Boxers can be born that way.

Family Day holiday here tomorrow. I am not sure everyone gets a holiday though.

I haven't been out in a week but need to go into Kingston tomorrow. There are just some things that you can't find in the village or Amazon.

Stay safe and well.

Deer were right at my front door last night. What a beautiful sight.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, freezing rain coming in tonight and tomorrow, weather watch is on Dianne…fun, fun, fun! When you say you out $$ away for your plowing, you pay by the visit?
I pay $600 for the season, would you say that is more than by the plow? Then of course there is Joe at $10.00 each trip, i would have to say I haven’t paid him $100 as yet.

You might not be able to go to Kingston tomorrow Dianne..I will pretty much drive in anything but nOt freezing rain

i don’t know what docktails are..will have to check..

Are you still read ing the book..I’m up to where Sadie’s maid warned her that she must leave the house as they are coming to take her to an asylum..i will read a bit more. I did not realize each day you get an account8mg of how much you’ve read and if you are lagg8ng behind or doing well

i miss my deer Dianne, very calming to see them..do the dogs bark and scare them away.

Is it Presidents Day in the USA tomorrow?

I did finish the inner block section of kitty quilt..now for all the paws
(Photo doesn’t do the blocs justice..they are far more vibrant.

I am tired and just a tad sore, think if i get comfy in bed it will do me a world of good.

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those cats are beautiful.
Yes, it's president's day tomorrow.

Verona, ON

It's Family Day here tomorrow. I'm glad I checked online to see Walmart's hours. I thought they opened at 8 nope it is 9. That being said they are closed tomorrow.

Betty I won't drive in freezing rain either.

It's 6 pm and it is still light out. Woo hoo.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Lindakay

Really Dianne,, here i thought if bad weather didn’t hit I would go do my shopping…guess i won’t be

Only fair that workers get day off to be ith family.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi - popping in for a minute to say HI
Been a very busy week - Senior's Centre on Monday, Tuesday Social Group, followed by Bowling League on Tues night, getting ready for the AGM (I'm the Secretary, Treasurer, and Librarian, all needing reports), decorating our Library for the AGM, and the actual AGM on Saturday. Been knitting a 6ft long stocking cap with all different stripes of many many many colours (I love it!) and just finished tonight. Now I need to make a tassel for it.

Cya on the flip side! Take care, and blessings to all!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

O degrees out there, we didn’t get snow nor freezing rain which is great..they are calling for snow later tonight and freezing rain over night.

Nice to see you post Susan, talk about taking things on, busy life fir sure, hope you slotted time in for sleep. Good you have companionship, winter months are hard on us living on our , have you had a lot of snow to contend with?

I had put off grocery shopping till today and thanks to Dianne I’ll not make a wasted trip into town with all closed.

Going to have mid point when i get up for washroom break lock Ziggy out of my bedroom, there is no need for me to be up at 4:45 every day.

Although, all housework is done and I’m heading downstairs but not before Ziggy comes back in..he was crying to go out which he dies not do but guess with milder temps he has spring fever

They call this are the bowl…all have been stickie some manner, today Jeff was the last, got his ski caught in a little tree, those gathered around him are jeering at him, he now is one of the boys, all had laughs each their turn getting into a bog

Nice to hear from you Susan. Take time to eat.
Betty, those photos are beautiful. How long are they up there for? Be careful driving, going to town.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mid week I believe Lindakay
From what i needed all was open including Walmart..needed an iron but looking how busy parking lot was i decided to wait

Brought home supper so no cooking today and tomorrow

Beautiful out there, i decided to get a car wash

keep thinking it should’ve late evening, that is what happens when you get up so early

Your Walmart was open Betty ? Even Foodland here in the village is closed today.

Had a few moments of panic when we walked this morning. Both Chaos and Kai went through the ice in different swamps. Kai bounced right back out onto firm ground but poor Chaos needed some help. His rear legs can give him some pain and aren't as strong as when he was younger. He is laying in front of the wood stove and his fur is warm to the touch.

I have some beef ribs I need to cook up. Does anyone have a good recipe ?

Deb do you have the day off work ?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes it was open and boy was the parking lot full..
Oh Lordy, so glad you didn’t lose both of them, chaos probably pulled some muscles , you are so lucky, many dogs lose their lives at this time of year..was the swamp water deep enough they could have hot stuck under the ice?

Not much in cooking beef ribs Sonoran cook..know Roger would boil for awhile the make honey and garlic sauce and bake on low heat until meat starts to fall off the ribs

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ribs in Texas are usually marinated overnight, then cooked outside on the grill, using mesquite wood, low heat for a few hours, turning and bathing in BBQ sauce.

Betty, the quilting design I used is called peacock feather.

95 here this afternoon. Beautiful day.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Had to work yesterday. Around here it seems like it's only the schools and government offices that are closed.
Dianne, have you tried Dasuquin supplements for Chaos? They're a joint supplement that really helps my old arthritic guys. It's the first one I've found that really seems to make a difference.

Good to see you checking in, Susan!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Calling for rain and turning to freezing rain this afternoon,

Deb, i will pass the name of this med over to Sharon. Thanks for sharing. When the first came up with Family Day it was to be all stores closed so workers could enjoy time together, don’t believe that happened, it’s business as usual.

Lindakay I will have to see if where i order mine have that design..
95F. Lordy, a tad too hot for me

i just messaged Pat and June to tell them not to come as yesterday it was mild, lots of melting, took all my time to get recycle to the roadside as my drive is glare ice.

Sure wouldn’t want them breaking a hip or arm

Top floor housework done so it’s a play day…

Rather than work on 2-3 projects at a time i will focus on one and get it done then move on to others

Victoria Harbour, ON

Freezing rain

Got the garbage cans back to their location without breaking a bone
Thinking of starting a the car and let it run, think when using electric start it runs for 10 minutes then shuts off..if i start it several times ice should melt.

Drats, laying with heating pad on my shoulder..i worked a few hours yesterday on June’s quilt and again this morning.thought maneuvering the machine on the frame wouldn’t bother it but wrong.. mega pain..grrrr

Probably have 2-3 hours left to quilt then binding, love hand sewing so i will enjoy that. I Do have to do some fix it’s..she was really tired of it and just wanted it done but you can’t have reads coming out of nowhere.

Nap time

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Deb, are you still in limbo about the heat?

Linda, glad to hear you found a way to get your own quilting done.

Susan, you sound good. I hope life is treating you well and that you are happy, you deserve to be.

Didn't see a post from Karen....

Sharon, you are more ambitious than me. No vegetable garden for me!! No guilt when I throw out a potato!

Sorry to hear you may have overdone it Betty.

Dianne, THAT would have been scary, I hope neither dogs are worse for wear after their unplanned bath in icy water. Make me HURT just thinking about it!

I got home at 2 this afternoon. Last night I would not have bet on being able to come home as the mountain pass was a problem again. I got lucky!! Highways were bare & wet on my drive home, the landscape was GORGEOUS as all the trees had fresh snow, it was breath takingly beautiful.

Stanley is driving me crazy of course. Butting me and pushing for pets and rubbing against me like crazy. He'll settle down by tomorrow. I had a few messes to clean up, looks like he gobbled too much food while I was gone!

No, you only get to enter what you pre-registered to display at the show. I have someone else doing the longarm and should have no trouble getting both done.

I brought my sewing machine with me so I got 5 blocks done for the BOM that I am WAY behind in. It was a free online one thru " Allpeoplequilt.com, "Bright new day" was the pattern. Carrie wanted the neckline changed on 2 tshirts & pants hemmed, so I was glad I decided to bring my machine.

Dana & I moved furniture around. Carrie is working from home & she needed a hard-connect, not wireless connection. We planned out several more projects for my next visit.

Just lost a long post. Time for bed. I will check in tomorrow.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - please, please, please take care!
Time to eat - have TOO MUCH time to eat. I've been gaining again. Eating alone, I don't think I eat as healthily as I should. Sleeping... some nights I have a GREAT night's sleep, and others, barely get 4 hours
Have an apron to make for a friend. She gave me some material, with Cardinals all over it (her favourite bird), and I have to find an apron pattern with a bib & 2 pockets. So many patterns call for payment, and I'm looking for FREE lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, -6 with a feel like -11,
light dusting of snow which makes it treacherous walking out there as it’s glare ice underneath..

Guess it was too icy for the sandman to come last night so at 4:30am i got up, watched a movie, did my chores and once I finish my coffee downstairs I will go.

Pat, is there no alternative to taking the pass even though it might add time to your trip.. love your quilt, very similar to one I did in turquoise and greens ( wish I hadn’t given it away)

On my next break I will look at what is on All people quilt site..I’ve an entire bag of earth tones from previous quilts and backing..i am amazed that most of what I’ve been sewing since Covid I’ve had.

Well at leastStanley is loving you up, normally they ignore you as their way of saying next time don’t leave or take me with you.

Dianne, How is the Th doing today..Kaos ok this morning..what a fright that must have been.. i usually lose my post when is cross up and decide to open a photo..

There must be a free site for aprons Susan, send me link of what kind of design you want..i have a few, to find them.hmmm

As for eating I started when I wasn’t well treating myself to chocolates, chips and liquorice ..made a point this week of buying fruit, jello, pudding lt.j.. need to get back into routine of my ‘walk a mile in 20minutes’ just have to not do the arm motions..will make a point of doing it at least once today..was doing it 3-4 times last fall when i lost the 20lbs.

Downstairs I must go,,probably an hour of machine quilting left, can see myself sitting quietly hand sewing binding

Yes, i won’t overdo, will quilt 10 or so minutes, work on binding for a tad then back to quilt..that is the plan but you know me, that would be smart and doubtful i will do it..

Ziggy keeps looking at me,wants something but what?

Photo taken by Jeff, got to this point and didn’t take smarts they would have to take an alternate route lol

Good morning.
I saw on Facebook that Karen is in Michigan. Guess she went to see the family.
Betty, praying you are feeling a bit better today. Have you heard from your surgeon yet?
Susan, your not alone with gaining weight. With covid restrictions, and not allowed to do much out of fear, I think is why we don't eat properly. Hope you find the pattern you are looking for.
Pat, those blocks are beautiful. I know Stanley was excited to have you back home.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Photo of avalanche is SCARY!!!!

Stanley pretty much makes it crystal clear what he wants. He is not subtle. His personality is more apt to make him "needy" than "angry". I had a friend who's cat would poop in the bathroom when it was angry. She would have a friend STAYING AT THE HOUSE and changing the litter box etc, but if Paula was gone for more than 3 days, cat made it's feelings KNOWN.

There really is not much choice of routes. I have never tried thru Portland, but it would be an 8-hour drive instead of 4!! Although that route would eliminate the mountain pass, it would go thru an area that can be equally scary. Being retired, and having someone to take care of Stanley, even if I had to wait it out for a week, I could have done that if necessary.

Susan, I have a pattern I have used several times. I will see if I can find a picture of one of them I have done. (I don't have any for me as I don't wear aprons!). It is super easy and one of the things I like about it is that it is so adjustable. It uses a facing for the underarms the ties thru those and around the neck. That makes if much more "size adjustable". I have many family members that do not fit the normal "one size fits all". I also used this pattern & scaled it down for children. How soon do you need it? Can I mail it to use or just give you the proper dimensi
ons?-+
