Wouldn't have done any good. No power for heat.
Those we know that had them, had all the water pipes freeze and bust. A very expensive mess.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

No, this was some kind of catalytic heater or something (we checked first of course) that was safe for indoors. It did not use electricity.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ooooooooooooh Broken water pipes are a nightmare! I was really lucky not to have it happen. Right now our temps are 35 to 43F but still having heavy winds.

Ladies - yes, have things I do outside the house, but I also have days when there's nowhere to go & no one to stop by. Lots of time spent on my own. As I said, day by day.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Pat, I haven't seen those heaters. Will have to look.

Susan hang in there. Like you said, one day at a time. We all love you very much, and keeping you in our prayers. This will all said and done, before you know it.

Morning all, -10 with feel like -20, soon time to take my shorts out NOT lol flurries this afternoon and evening.

Karen that would have been an exhausting day for you..i like Pat wish there could be one little corner in the house that you could set up just the machine, with the bodies inside you could tell them or prepare what is needed and let them do the walking, that way you could so do what you love, sew.

That was cold Lindakay and for such a long period of time..could you get a small generator as standby incase it happens again? Better to have it and not use it than not have it and need it. What new projects did your quilting gals come up with? Did these girls all shop at the fabric store you worked at?

Speaking of generators, I should mark ‘gas’on my list just incase, IF I can fine my gas can. Must call Greg, have him drop in, watch me to see if i start it the right way. Put that on my list with calling hairdresser to make appt to get hair cut.

Although body still paining. not as bad except for hip but i decided i had to start exercising again, so did my 1st mile..hoping to get 3 miles in today..

Must call Sharon, vet said could be today or tomorrow..

Got my chores done, was dusting the little cafe so i will make a coffee and head downstairs and see what i can accomplish besides laundry.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, we have since bought a generator. Learned our lesson.
Some of the quilters still shop there, not for sure how much longer.

I bet Sharon is anxious to see the new puppies.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thank you Linda - appreciate your words more than I can say. I can hardly wait until Spring. Right now I've been packing on the pounds, and need to get them OFF.

I've been thinking about getting a generator since I moved here in 2016. Awfully expensive though, which is why I didn't. Now, maybe I'll do it now that I am my own "person" and next month I'll get 2x the Senior's Benefits as they didn't pay it this month. May have enough to do it. I'll see if I can get reimbursed after-the-fact. There are many things that they reimburse seniors for, and I certainly qualify lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lindakay maybe the girls feel by the time they drive elsewhere and spend gas $$ might as well support local. Do you have your regular generator hooked up with 2 male plugs? Just have to remember the electrical box HAS to be turned off first before starting generator, that is so if pier comes on it does blow the whole panel.that way i can run almost the entire house..

Susan, not only the cost but they are so big to store..hope you get extra $$ and can do something special for yourself.

Sitting here eating a salad, don’t know why i don’t make them more often, love Russian Dressing..

3:30 i get this mop chopped off, that will make me feel better

Mommy in labour, hope all puppies are healthy.

Just got news bulletin a transport lost control at the main intersection in Penetanguishene, right at top of hill..ran into Flower shop where my flowers come from..sure hope nobody was injured

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - double my Seniors Benefits is still only $440. I know they cost a LOT more than that. I'm on musical hold with SHARP (Seniors Housing Adaptation and Repair Program. They will reimburse seniors who qualify for a loan or grant. I would get a grant because I don't own the property,I own a mobile home. They've repaid for the roof, windows, a hot water tank, a bed and washer/dryer. I haven't applied for the grant since we got the hot water tank a few years ago.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good thing to check into, there are grants out there, just have to research

Well, at 1:30 a little girl puppy was born

Victoria Harbour, ON

Another little girl puppy born at 4:20

Melanie sent me photo, girlfriend Helene who passed away with Covid last year would have been so excited..she had a grandson, this morning her daughter had a girl

Was this Paris's 2nd litter? Goodness Melanie looks great for just after birth, I should have been so lucky!! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh yikes, no it’s me friend who sewed here’s daughter..sad, Helene died of Covid last year at 63..how she would have loved seeing this granddaughter..Mel was friends with helenes daughter so thought I’d enjoy photo

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Nearest fabric shop from here is an hours drive. I am sure some have already gone for that drive. Congrats on the new puppies. Praying all are healthy.
Congrats on the new granddaughter. I am sure Helene is watching from above.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

We have a Joann's & a few other places that have fabric Hobby lobby, Craft warehouse etc. I frequent our local quilt shop Discount Sew & Vac, they have a
little annex building with great fabric and they teach classes. I do NOT shop the local Viking dealer. I drive 1 hour away to Walla Walla. lately I have also been buying some fabric online.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, plow came but really there was no need to, just a skim but nice it’s done..omg it’s beyond cold here but the sun is trying its hardest to come out.

An hour is a fair drive but if you were to keep a list and go once a month or so it might be a pleasant day out and more so if you brought quilting friends with you. What i wouldn’t give to do the almost 3 hours to Buffalo for a shopping trip to joanns, hobby Lobby and the a few quilting shops in the area…what a birthday gift that would be..still have a month to see if requirements change..bet those bordering towns between Canada and USA are missing the shopping on both sides..imagine even Niagara Falls hurting

Pat, don’t think I’ve been to a Craft Warehouse? Promise myself to use as much of what I have before getting more..know i need backing for a few projects, might consider looking online..shipping from stateside would not be good..

Well now that i cook my left side fanny i should take my coffee and play downstairs for the morning… sandwhich valentines day piece and i want to try to make one of those face mask covers and a t-towel embroidered…..if i get both of those done i will be happy camper.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, weather must be nice in your neighbourhood, all out enjoying!

Kayleigh just called, he, Destiny and Grayson are coming for a visit this afternoon..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I hope everybody is staying warm and safe. Cuz Baby, it's COLD outside!! Some of you are dealing in temperatures that I can't even fathom!!

Sharon, we have not heard from you lately. How are you doing with your continuing house share?

Susan, I know not every day is a "good day" but I see your forward motion.

Our Craft Warehouse has especially nice selection of batiks. At least 3 times what our Joann's has. They have other quilter quality fabric as well. It's no "quilt shop" by any means but still fun to shop it. It sells LOTS of different craft supplies including a fair artist paint supply selection.
Since several of my acquaintances & friends have Husqvarna /Viking sewing machines, there is frequently SOMEONE going to Walla Walla within the week if one of us needs something picked up. The owners are super nice people & we chose to shop there rather than our local dealer. They are used to us picking up for each other.
I had not been in the local shop in YEARS until a few weeks ago when a friend wanted to shop there. I went in with her.
I need to get off my bottom & get the quilt tops done. Also need to get to the Post office and mail the package off to China for my 3rd son. Soooooo later Ladies!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I would love to find a little shop like that Pat.
Is your son in China safe. So much tensions building up with Russia and China.
What does he do there.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Clayton teaches English as a 2nd language. He's been there about 8 years or more (I don't remember for sure). I don't consider his wife (a Chinese national that he met while teaching at a university while she was also a teacher) and their 5 YO son, any of them "safe". If the politics don't end up hurting them the lousy air quality will do it. On our worst day, with fires in the general area, the air quality is better here than where they live in Dalian.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

YES!!!!! MARIE JUST CALLED; WE HAVE RESERVATIONS AT THE QUILT RETREAT FOR TWO DAYS STARTING NEXT TUESDAY!!! Can you tell I am excited?? We had soooo much fun last time and got so much done. We have a friend who has been pushing for a sewing cruise but honestly, I would prefer to just go "down the street" to Prosser (just an hour away) and stay in the Inn for $60 per person, per night and have all those banquet tables, ironing boards and 3-banquet table cutting surface all to ourselves WITH a quilt store next door with 15% discount (because we are staying at the Inn). Yep, I am GIDDY!!!! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sure can tell you are excited

can’t blame you and yes I’d rather do these classes vs a cruise. Praying your family remains safe..don’t think I knew about air quality..

Send via messenger video of my little visitor this afternoon as you can’t post video’s here..

Debbie think you are the only one i didn’t sent to, need you on my Facebook i think..can you send me request.

Was going to post photo of this mornings project, will have to take individual photo’s tomorrow..have one in my photo’s but it show the embroidered t-towel I did for cousin Henrique has chickens…it has the other word for rooster on it so don’t want to get thrown off DG for posting..

Victoria Harbour, ON

About 1/3rd of the throw quilted..have my little boys tomorrow for sewing and groceries tomorrow but hoping to get it quilted and binding on so i can hand stitch the binding 8n the evenings next week..just in time for Valentines Day.

Turned out ok, had red/white blocks and all kinds of white tone on tone cuttings that i pieced together… even used scrap pieces of batting.. love making a project from nothing....turning out nicely if I may so so myself…

Nobody tells me anything not wanting to worry me..

Kyle was snowmobiling with Greg Monday, big area under his chin frost bite..had to go to emerge, frozen lymph nodes in throat/neck..he couldn’t breath as the were swollen and plugging air passage.

His chin looked bad but he said he had several days difficult breathing…dangerous stuff

Kyle had his pager with him, bad accident down the street, roads still blocked so they had to make big detour..individual wasn’t doing well..diabetic and went into shock..hooe no fatalities.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Are your hearts raw edge applique? I know I don't have the patience for needle turn. YES! Something very satisfying about making something from "nothing". That is one of the reasons jean quilts appeals to me so much.

GOODNESS... I have VERY mixed feelings about the whole "I don't want you to worry" stuff. I remember when my Mom told me to NOT to call Dad in Alaska. She had been hospitalized & he was fishing for a month with Uncle. I called Dad, how could he ever leave town again and trust me if I didn't?? Mom got over me not "obeying" her. A year later Dad went BACK to Alaska and I stayed with her so he could.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yikes, talk about a cold one, -28 with feel like -34 brrrr

Youngsters come this morning, will be nice to see them..

Yes Pat it’s a hard call to know when to or not to let someone know something..guess had it been more serious I’d have found out.

The hearts are raw edge, appliqué stitch dies fine..top stitching is done with clear thread that way i don’t worry if i don’t quite make it in the ditch.

As for the lot of nothing I’ve a lot of that, totes full..I’d be making everyone quilts if it weren’t fir backing and batting cost..

What i didn’t put on my list of UFO’s are the squares mom hand cross stitched that I could divide in 4 for the grands..

Now I’ve had breakfast maybe i can take my coffee downstairs and get an hour more of quilting on the throw.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful quilt Betty. Amazing what we can get done, out of nothing.
Glad to hear Greg is OK.
Pat, so glad you get to go to a retreat. Enjoy.

Verona, ON

Betty's cold weather is here too. There is an extreme cold warning in place.

I need to get into the village to take care of a few things. Nothing that can't wait until
Mon. The pig's ears I ordered for the TH! from Amazon arrived yesterday so the TH are happy.

Trying to get my day started. I've been up for hours but reading and joined on the bed with 250 lb of dog makes me very comfortable and warm.

Stay safe and warm.

Pat I am excited for you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

2 youngsters just left, having lunch and 6 Year old Ezra will be here at 1 then like Dianne i will think long and hard wether i want to go into town at 30m and get it over with or wait until Monday.. must look at forecast, rather go in cold weather than in a blizzard.

Not a wonder TH will be thrilled, great snacking. Sharon get frozen necks somewhere around here for her dogs..3 little ones born Thursday have put on weight, she is thrilled..

Too funny, decided to put a hand towel on embroidery machine and do the love heart, embroidered it sideways so think i might cut a heart from the design and make a backing with same and at least salvage it into a little pillow.. not smart lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

It seems like the easier a project is, the easier it can go wrong simply by my inattention!
Puppies, sooooo cute, soooo much fun and WORK!! Nova's 7 puppies last June were an eye-opener for me.
250# of dog is a lot of body warmer!! I know how much my Stanley, at under 14#, makes a difference in my lap when I nap. I'd probably roast to death with all that added body heat of 250#.

Stay warm and safe Peeps!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, you need a strong bed frame to hold that much weight…when Ziggy gets on my chest he is heavy enough I have to shoo him off, can’t imagine 250lbs worth

That is ok Pat. Might turn out to be something else and i will live it, was just doing it for something to do while resting my shoulder from quilting.lol

Awwww!! Babies are so cute!! Glad they are gaining weight! Three is a nice size litter.

I sent you a friend request on Facebook, Betty.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I did not get the requests Debbie ..
How many pups do you normally get in your breed of dog? Sharon sleeps on couch in basement for first week, says she has only had a few hours of sleep since their birth.

Are you getting this extreme cod?

Thank goodness her quilting machine is downstairs

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I love the quilting on that quilt.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, she doesn’t a wonderful job..mostly ruler work

Drats, my dryer just went on the fritz

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Well nuts, nothing needs appliance failure in bad weather (or ANY OTHER TIME!)

I shutter at the thought of negative space and trying to do anything with it. I am sooooo not anywhere near that level. I am barely squeaking by with free motion, which I really like.

Verona, ON

Still under an extreme cold warning. It's so cold I haven't even walked the dogs yet. I put them out in their enclosure and within a minute they were knocking on the door.

Need to get some more blocks of wood inside then I think I will sit for awhile. I only got 2 hours of semi sleep last night. I definitely coming back as a sleeper.

Betty I think this extreme cold and huge snowfalls are like it was when we were kids. We probably didn't know how cold it was until we came back into the house. We had a great hill to toboggan on plus my dad and uncle made a big ice rink for us to skate on.

So what's everybody up to today ? I will definitely read. I am reading Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series. Excellent read.

I need to get a new mop for the floors. The 1 I have now is on its last leg. Of course washing the floors twice a day wears it down quickly.

Stay safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

It’s a cold one….

Went and did groceries, not many out on this cold Sunday morning which made getting what I needed a quick run in and out.

Dropped into Home Depot and looked at dryers..the ones in my price range had to be ordered , wait 2-6 weeks so i guess i will contact a repairman first and see what we thinks, worth fixing or not…me, who washes every morning..don’t know what i would do without.

Sounds like good read Dianne..what was keeping you up last night? Yikes i thought i was bad doing the floor every 2 days with mop, you must be Queen of Clean.I do vacuum a lot though…TH know it’s warmer near the wood stove.

Pat, Sharon just loves Ruler work..i am in awe of her quilting..it’s only been a few years and already a pro

Guess i should go downstairs and maybe sew a bit, thinking I will get shop vac and vacuum inside drying just incase it’s plugged somehow..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have never tried ruler work.
Betty, any new appliance here, you have to order. Some have been waiting 6 months for a new stove, freezer....
