Good girl Pat, wow 100F, not a wonder you are thrilled the a/c is working..mom just said next week they are calling for a heat wave..

Just climbed into bed after checking everywhere for the container holding 6 vials of vaccine for hip and neck I picked up this morning..set it somewhere, started to worry I’d not find it for appointment in the morning..just found it, now who puts it behind a pillow on couch?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Pat, take it one day at a time. Put your foot down when needed.

Betty, I have done that too. Set things down and can't remember where.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

LOL.... you likely did NOT put it behind a pillow on a couch. You set it on the couch and THEN later you were picking up and putting up and put the pillow back where you liked it best (right in front the vials!)

It will be a constant battle with myself, to remind myself, I do NOT have to do ANYTHING, I don't want to do, or share anything I bought, if I don't feel like it. If I am going to feel resentful, THEN don't do it!!! The "training" has begun. I had to instruct granddaughter to put her dishes in the DISHWASHER, not the sink. I get it, they did not have a DW, but we do HERE and I won't clean up after others.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, rainy day but not complaining, well maybe a little, tall flowers laying on ground 😔

Pat seems as though you’ve come up with a workable schedule and rules that will keep you all sane..it’s ok to know what you expect but unless family unit all know them.

Sharon, we were disappointed the Night’s didn’t win hockey game, we were cheering loudly..

Got up at 5:30am and dug up plants that mom wants to take home with her this morning.. was soaking wet so hot bath and got my hair done, so straight wasn’t worth the effort but had to try seeing Doctor will be here in a few hours.

Mom will leave about 10:30, drop into her sisters for a few hours then long drive
home... been nice having her visit and she did manage a few hours with Sharon and then with Bernie and Charlene... would have thought by brother Mike and his wife Charlene would have come to visit but not.

Was thinking of doing groceries once mom leaves but not much I need so think I’ll pass, I have an adult hooded towel to make so maybe I can sit and reconfigure size..novelty gift ... I also have the dress and jeans cut to revamp into new skirt for Rita’s daughter and aprons for kiddies so even if I accomplish one of them I’ll be pleased

What do you all have planned today?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Just need to do our weekly grocery run. Have lunch somewhere. Then back home.
It's already 82 degrees with 73% humidity. It's going to be another hot day.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Exciting day....laundry. LOL While that's doing, I guess Hubby and I will try to get sewing area back to rights. I asked ones who took all apart to restore but so far it just sits. Their stuff which is encroaching on my space will be moved to where ever and they can deal with it. Ornery mood today, can you tell?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lol Karen, you have the right to be ornery..you need your own space regardless if you sew or not.

Lindakay, lunch out, sounds so nice..right now some restaurants have outdoor areas set up but no more than 4 at a table so lineups are long, I’ll wait until one can eat inside again so it’s take out for me.envy you your meal.

Mom is gone, we had a disagreement right before she left, and yes likely I was in the wrong. She called to tell aunt Muriel she was stopping in before heading to the city, aunt Muriel asked her if she would pick up a bottle of liquor for her, mom was making faces as aunt Muriel talked, when she got off phone she said absolutely would she NOT pick one up, aunt Muriel doesn’t drink a lot but does enjoy sipping, i Sid she is 92, blind, on deaths door, for goodness sake let her enjoy something..she said if she had to go to hospital they would think she was an alcoholic, I said so what, you have wine, wouldn’t that be same thing?? So who knows if she will get it for her.

Lazy now, should do something..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, I don't envy you that disagreement with your Mom. In spite of the fact I do NOT drink or allow it in my house, if my sister asked me to pick her up something, I would. I would because she is an adult and should be able to make her own decisions.
Years ago a friend asked me if I was willing to take on a responsibility, should she pass away before her aunt. Her Aunt was in an Assisted Living place and my friend is the one that bought her Aunt the cigarettes'. She wanted to be sure her aunt's needs would be met, should she precede her aunt. I said yes, for my friend's peace of mind. It never came to that, and I'm glad, but still. We need to know our people's needs are being met.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I wouldn't consider that an argument. Just straightening out the facts.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Today was the last day of wrapping Phil. I told him (and also Texted Marie) saying that I really thought we should plan on doing this again in the fall. Phil said he would "agree but not suggest or recommend it". He REFUSES to go out of town because of special environmental needs he has (raised bed, handles next to toilet both sides etc)

Last time Phil & Marie's daughter came to town, there was a VERY heated argument between Phil & daughter, she swore she would never visit there again. She did say that she & family would stay at her best friend's house & have her mother visit her there. Marie & daughter are VERY close, Marie NEEDS to spend time with her and the grandkids. THAT means somebody has to take care of Phil so she can. She used go for a week about every 3 months.

We are experiencing VERY high temperatures and we are forecasted to have record breaking temperatures in the next week. Only ONE more day of taking care of SIL Sharon's yard & flowers. There are so MANY pots in every conceivable spot that worry I will miss one. ON the fence, on the shed walls, against the house on shelves, tucked in between ground flowers, above the fish pond, yatta, yatta!!! In July I will take care of them all over again while she is out of town for her grandson's Bday they are celebrating in the mountains. At least she doesn't have a Stanley that I have to monitor for escaping while I move through the house to water on the patio!!

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Betty, I saw your ditch flooding on Facebook. I hope you are calling whoever is in charge of it's maintenance every hour on the hour. I do not drink either but I would stop and pick up some for someone that was not able to do so and it would not harm them. Las Vegans were very disappointed with the loss but another good year. I do not watch the games because they make me to nervous. My mother had the same problem.

We had a great rain storm last Thursday. Caused major flooding on the other side of the valley. We only got a nice rain. Other side got wind up to 65mph and hail. Sure glad we missed that bullet. Two days of cloudy, cooler days made for two days of intense gardening. And I did that and crashed each evening without even turning on my laptop. When I was done, I was ready to fire my mow and blow guys. After their visit on Friday, I am still ready. I need a hoe, no hoe and no one carries an old fashioned hoe. I am going searching on the net.

Pat, I love your talking to yourself. I do it often. Stand your guns but have fun. Vern's last year we made everything a joke. Easier to laugh than cry. You are so sweet to take care of Phil. Just like a man not to appreciate it. You would have the same problem with my garden. Many pots in areas you would never imagine. I cannot imagine a daughter coming to see her mother and not her father. Life is to short to make decisions like that. My son lives in Spokane and says he woke up and thought he was back in Las Vegas because of the heat.

I need to go outside and work on a spider plant in the courtyard that is very happy. I will return, like a bad penny.

Karen, how did your sewing room get in such disarray.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sharon, Phil has brought this on himself with his stubborn, opinionated big mouth. He has shown a complete lack of respect for his daughter's decisions (that have been GOOD decisions, just not the ONEs HE WANTED or approved of. Politically they are worlds apart, there are tensions over religious matters as well.

Phil has really expressed his appreciation to me for coming each day and the extras I do that he wants. He has really been very pleasant with me. There have been times in the past that I have wanted to strangle him but this period has been REALLY good. I have managed to squeeze in a little "gardening" there as well. Weeding, deadheading etc. Stuff Marie just hasn't gotten to. She is not much of gardener anyhow, the flowers used to be Phil's job.

Our father lived with Phil & Marie the last 5 years of his life. I was still working full time & my husband had HIS health issues.. Although I did some help, it was not near enough. Dad was only gone about a year before Phil started going down hill. I wasn't as much help as I wanted with Dad, I CAN help her Phil.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sharon, Great grands grad party was here. I had two banquet tables that I use for keeping extra machines on. I also use them for layouts and basically most of what I'm doing. All my stuff was moved wherever and the tables taken out for the party. That part was fine but now I want them back where they belong and my stuff back where it belongs. I'm a bit anal in that I can just about put my hands on what ever I want and this disarray is making me crazy. The least they could do is put the tables back and pick my stuff up off the floor. I don't need nor want them to try and re- arrange my stuff, I just have to see it so I can take care of it. tables are too heavy for me to manage.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

And boy do I agree with that Karen.

I worked on the courtyard for about an hour. Looks much better. Started about 7. Took the dogs for their walk at 8 and then we had a quick dinner. I had the carcass of the Costco chicken for my dinner. I need to get some frozen cranberries and make me some cranberry sauce.

I am watching some old Dr Martin episodes on PBS. I have already seen them but enjoy it. Already time for bed.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Karen, I don't think that "Able - Bodied - People" understand how frustrating it is to have our stuff moved etc and then not returned. As for not being able to return everything the way it was, today, with phone cameras, they can TAKE A PICTURE and return everything back the way it was!!!
One of the chief complaints of my husband (and other patients) is that the nurses would come in, move stuff for their convenience and not return things back so the patient could reach it!!! (Sorry, but the urinal NEEDS to be within reach!)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I totally agree. You created the mess. You clean it up.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

All fine in concept. It's getting it done that is the problem.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon everyone, I too think 8m in Las Vegas, no air outside, muggy as old heck, Kyle dropped 8n and said we have a feel like 104f..don’t know how you gals do it..

They have a weather warning on for this afternoon..tornado warning as well..Kyle though weather radar thought it said the storm would start later today..sure hoping not the 4” of rain 8n an hour kind of downpour like we had yesterday.

I did survive without mishap thanks to neighbours who came and helped clear the debris from the main ditch water grid..I didn’t sleep last night as I was timing pump, making sure it was working and several trips downstairs to check if water had come in through the foundation so on the tired side.

This morning I went out and got rid of the mud/debris caught in the grid, picked up a garbage bag full of water/pop plastic bottle and even a piece of 2x4 so ready for today’s event I hope..am ok as long as hydro stays on. Found my notes on the generator, never used, Jeff started it on Mother day for a few years, went through steps, am able to pull the pull cord but first had to move it from the shed wall and Lordy it’s heavy only to try and turn on gas and the metal toggle switch corroded and broke off so have to buy a new batter and order the switch from somewhere. Kyle told me if power does go off to call him and he would have a generator here with 10-15 minutes as did Sharon so that is a relief.

I would love to have a nap but would spoil tonight’s sleep should the storm be over so been flitting from place to place.

I’m with you all, like things set in the place I’ve put them..if you need them please put them back in their place after you are thru..greg was bad for that, always borrowed my pump to empty his pool and hot tub, I’d need it and have to call to get it back..finally I bought him one for Christmas, he was over the other day to borrow a specialty cutter, I never used it so this one I told him to keep.

Boys used to play a game and move things around and see how long it took me to find it..wasn’t long before I did.

Don’t you just hate family drama..big sigh
Mom did buy aunt Muriel a bottle of liquor, told her I was please and if she hadn’t I’d go and get her one..at 92 surely liquor in a hot toddy before bed can’t do harm?

Neighbour is moving on Wednesday, has had tables filled with things, all free, I have not ventured out as I don’t need anything and might be tempted.

Knitting a bit, embroidered top for a folding bag to occupy myself, Marie dropped in to check on me and see how I made out re flooding, she sat while the fold part of the bag was doing its thing so I’ll give it to her.

Took homemade pea soup out for lunch, it’s 2:00pm, if I soon don’t eat it, it will become supper.

Enjoy your day..

I spent August in Canada, working at a friends resort when I was 16. Back home, it was 100+ degrees, Canada was getting a "heat wave" and it was 90. The locals were dying and I was comfortable. I swam every afternoon, & every night in the lake, thoroughly chilled my body & slept with a blanket!

Karen, I understand your frustration "fine in concept... getting done is the problem". My nephew (and sometimes a son) would come & use the compressor in the garage. I don't know how familiar you are with a compressor, but it builds up pressure, and if not being used, it remains silent. Gradually the air leaks out and engine restarts (and it's LOUD). THEY would all go home, we would get into bed and then the compressor would start because they had NOT shut it off!! I would have to get out of bed, and go turn it off. It would make me so angry because it disturbed my sleep. I finally told them to pin a $20 bill on the wall of garage, if they didn't shut off the compressor, I would KEEP the $20! That seems to improve their memory.

Yesterday I finally got the "drive way widened". Along the side of the property was access to the back yard with a narrow driveway ,between the patio and neighbor's property. There was about 5 foot flowerbed along that driveway that had vinca, violas and flowering plum bushes etc with cement curbing. No matter how many times I pruned that area, every time we would need to get a vehicle back there, I would have to prune or risk scratching the paint.

When the electric company came to cut back my Silver Maple tree, away from the power lines, I told them to ignore the curbing border, run right over it, because I intended to take it out anyhow. THEY did & the curbing broke into sections about 2 feet long. I was able to pry it up, position it along the patio (which will prevent puppies from digging out under the wire fencing). I dug out the plants & I need to work more on totally killing the bushes. I am so excited, another project on the "to do list" from when we first moved in (8 years ago) , ALMOST done! I will work on leveling it and have gravel spread.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You must be exhausted by nighttime Pat..

Carol and Dianne, sure hope the bad weather misses you

Feels like a sauna when I go out on back deck, yep Pat it’s a feel like 95f and we are babes compared to you all, really hits us

Verona, ON

Hot and muggy here too.

I've walked the TH twice today and came home and showered I was so hot. They weren't too interested in doing anything other than playing in the lake.

When I walk I am just heart sick to see all the devastation of the gypsy moth. I have quite the rash on my right hand and lower arm - all from contact with the gypsy moth. Even Benadryl spray doesn't stop the itch. I just keep ice on it when it gets too itchy I can't stand it.

We are birds of a feather here ..... I too get myself in a tizzy if someone doesn't put something back where it came from. When we had the SG business and we employed some HS students after school to wash glass and other scut jobs I would have a conniption if they didn't put something back where they picked it up.

Betty the wind is strong and it reminds me I need to get a tree person in to cut back and take down a few trees.

Pat do you ever stop ?

Stay safe and well everyone.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, stay safe in that heat and bad weather.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, did have sun for about an hour, went in the basement to sew together one of those shopping bag wallet type bags, walked over to Marie and gave it to her .. as I came up it was so dark, looks like rain any minute so another day in..

Maybe I’ll me mega few bags seeing stores have only providing paper and they are ripped before you get home, groceries all over..the once’s I make are so small, you can easily bring 10 with you in a wee bag..something to do lol

Dianne, want to cry when I see my big trees out front, they attacked some out back but they are so dense you don’t see it as much..june had same on her leg, said no itch but burned like crazy, regular ointment wouldn’t help so she had to have doctor prescribe meds..I’ll ask her if she comes sewing tomorrow what the name was.

Lindakay, has the funeral been held for your brother? Am sure it’s difficult not being there but more important for him you were there in his last days. Hugs

This is what Ziggy thinks of the day

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Funeral will be later. They go today to pick up his ashes. Then they will decide on a date. His ashes will be placed next to our Dad in the same plot.
Yes, it's sad I won't be there. But so glad I did see him before he passed.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I can't imagine what living in a gypsy moth area must be like. Besides the physical pain from the rash, watching the trees die. What a shame.

More than 20 years ago, when I was the office manager at my Ex's Chiropractic office, I was so blessed when I shared a desk with our receptionist, Judy. She & I worked different shifts, we had some overlap. She ALWAYS put stuff back & was the easiest person EVER to share a space with. She also so thoughtful and easy to work with. When I would plan to leave to go out of town, it was not uncommon for her to come in earlier than scheduled to say "thought you might want head-start!"

Son & wife came and they mounted one TV and the other one needs a heavier duty mount than the one they bought. Internet/Dish is being installed today. They are still in the process of moving in. They brought bookcases and started arranging them. I got out black paint and started touching up the scratches on the book cases.

My brother comes today and cuts a new metal rod for my closet. We will also raise the rod & cut wider shelf. I still need to find an effective way to store & access my shoes. I don't have room for the upright shoe rack I used in my old bedroom.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Pat, they have those cloth bags that have slots in them for shoes that hang on the back of a door.

I am waiting for Brian's call. Brian is Vern's son who is 55. Functioning autistic and other problems. He has his own condo but checks in with me everyday about this time so I know he has not fallen or otherwise ill.

Then I am going to the grocery store. I saw a recipe on Facebook that was low carb. Basically a macaroni soup but instead of macaroni, they used cabbage. Looked great to me so I am on my way to buy cabbage.

Cecil, after over a week, actually came looking for his breakfast this morning.

Pat, I am sending you hovering angels today to help you make it through the day. Biggest problem I would have is the TV. Mine is seldom on. I even turn off my Google music because it is interfering with my quiet space.

Brian just called, so I am off to the grocery store. Please say a prayer for those individuals in the condo collapse and the relatives waiting for word.

Linda, you are in my thoughts.

Betty, have you called whoever is in charge of the drain yet.

I will return later.

Betty, my weather report on my phone shows you getting rain the majority of the week. we are actually suppose to get rain Tuesday and Wednesday. Coming up from Mexico.

Spokane is actually hotter than Vegas, so Pat is probably also.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

So many people in this world in need of prayers.

108 right now, the low last night was 92!! Even with day temps of almost a 100, we generally drop to 60s, so this is HOT!

I think I have had the TV on twice in 16 months. Both times it was because grandkids ASKED me to watch something with them. I don't remember the last time I had a radio on in the house.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Pat, you and I could live together. And I am so used to being in my home with only my animals, it would be hard for me.

I made it back from the grocery store. Got two heads of cabbage, one small, one large and 18 eggs. Going to make an egg dish you bake. Saw it on Facebook also. Going to do both dishes tomorrow. I have some plants that need to be planted. I will do that later on this evening.

Betty, how has your day been? All my animals are in for the day. Just to hot. I am sitting in my bedroom and have turned on the AC. I do not turn it on often because my house does not get hot, or I do not feel it, but the dogs were panting, so I closed all the doors and turned on the AC. Bedroom has it;s own AC, so not cooling down the whole house. When my daughter walks into my house, first thing out of her mouth is, "Mom, it is so hot in here".

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

My sweet husband LOVED music and played it NONstop. We invested in good headphones for him although he usually shut off the music when I was home so he could focus on me.

Ben would accompany me on errands and stay in the car with heater/ A/C going and listen to music. He always told me to take my time, he was fine. As long as he had his music and the temperature he needed, and he could be with me, he was happy.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I have headphones connected to my computer. It keeps the sound off unless there is something I want to listen too. I do love music and have Cirius radio in the car. But if I'm playing solitaire or another game I don't want to hear the sound.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Pat - I don't know HOW you live in those temps............. of course I just have to think of those in Calcutta where the norm is 40c (104F) & above and be happy this is only short term....... going to 102F today.

Yesterday the "no contact" order was done, and Bob (with my blessing) has moved back home. Before he could get a chance to, the RCMP came to my door & told me that a neighbour complained that Bob was moving back. I told the officer that, according to the court, the "no contact" order was over, and that I was just waiting for the form to sign agreeing to the 1 year Peace Bond to come by email for me.
We went out for dinner last night.
Today it's back to Tuesday Social Group, and tomorrow I get my 2nd shot.
A friend & I were going to go in her motorhome to go fishing, but it's too hot for either camping or fishing

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying it all works out for you Susan.

Victoria Harbour, ON

While son is in thought I’d drop in with a hi, read all your lovely posts but must must hurry and get decks sprayed and scrubbed again re gypsy moth shit...grrr
You have no idea! cut grass, pick up limbs

Just got a call, my brother Bernie went to his doctor this morning, he has myeloma

Waiting for specialist appt to find out what stage

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I am checking in to say hello. Betty, prayers for your brother. Hopefully they caught it in time. Easy to cure if found soon enough. My weather report on your area shows rain for you. We are suppose to get rain by 4pm. I just want the clouds, so I can plants some plants that need urgent care in the green house.

We are only going to be 100 today. Son in Spokane is going to be 111, near Pat so she is also probably smoldering. My daughter is home from St Louis. Had a great visit, but happy to be home.

I am in for awhile and going to do some cooking.

Susan, so pleased Bob has returned. I wish you good times and no more heart ache.

I am off to cook and , of course, the clouds just moved in to my area. Wish me luck on the cooking because I am just shooting from the hip.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about Bernie. Will add him to our prayers.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Susan, I am happy that you and Bob have decided to reconcile. I wish you well. Many marriages have bumps in the road but they can be overcome.

Betty, hugs go out to you. Sorry to hear about your brother. Hope you don't have any more worries about flooding water. At least the gardens got watered well. Mine sure needed it.
I had an old barrel that had rotted over the years. It had five metal rings and I had my garden helper put them together and hang them from a tree in the shape of the Olympic Rings.
Not a very clear pic as it had started to rain yesterday just as he finished hanging them.
And a cute cartoon about weeds.
Hi to all
Cheers,
Carol

Betty, Bernie will be in my prayers as well as you.
Susan, I hope with some counseling and reflection, things will go better for you & Bob. Hopefully a counselor that is better than the yo-yo that you first saw! YIKES

Yep, it's been HOT> Granddaughter Sam (13 YO) had her first day of track yesterday from 8am to 9am, they decided it would be at 7 this morning so it would be a little cooler. 83 already at 7. She & I spent until 6 PM last night unpacking her room, assembling bunk beds. She & I work well together, she is hard worker & will mature to be another woman who LOVES her power tools!

Adam rolled in last night 11 PM and we unloaded the pickup. I will be sooooo glad when this is done! He was sick 2 nights ago and puking.

My bed is covered with the contents of my closet. The interior is DARK brown textured paneling. I will pick up paint today and hopefully get it painted so I can go back to sleeping in BED rather than recliner! I admit part of recliner is that is much cooler in the sewing room.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

We did no get our rain or flash flood. It hit about 55 miles away toward the Utah border. Major flooding in Zion National Park and a few small towns North of Zion.

We got sprinkles and had a perfect morning with clouds and temps in the high 80s. Sun is now out and our humidity is around 40%, which is way high for us. So I will be inside for a little while

Cecil would not eat this morning and threw up bile twice on our morning walk. They have a grooming appointment with a new groomer on Friday until my regular groomer gets recovered from her car accident. Should be interesting because they have always had the same groomer.

Pat, sounds like you are getting it all together. I found a cheap hoe so I am going to weed the next time we have cloud cover. I purchased a cheap hoe because I wanted a light hoe. My favorite hoe, before it broke, was a kid's hoe. We get purslane that pops up this time of year and grows very rapidly.

Carol, I like your rings. Good idea. Trash to Treasure. One of my favorite pastimes.

Betty, I hope all is well. Susan, hoping you and Bob are having a good day.
