Thanks for the new room Betty.
Sure hope you don't get too sick.

I am sitting, reading and napping. I literally have not done anything but pull tags off the new jeans I bought off online for recycling into denim quilts. They were mostly shorts and although NEW, were a very stylized name brands out of fashion. I have no intention of holding them until Spring and trying to resell. Better to cut them up and get them gone. Seriously, THAT is all I have done and don't think it will change over the course of the day.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Must be that kind of day..climbed into bed about 1/2 hr, watching cranberry Lane-Hallmark movie.

They would have to have been bought at a really low price for you to buy and cut up?

Put a pair of new scales, didn’t even wear them, after having stored them for 15 years posted them on Victoria Harbour hub, a lady wants to try them on, she will have to wait til tomorrow unless she wants to see me in my nighty lol

Karen your ornaments are beautiful..you were saying you were having trouble with your machine..I use machine embroidery needles which likely you are using but what I found stopped most of the aggravation was pre wound bobbins..you think they are expensive but you get double the thread in them and hassle free embroidery well worth it.

Love the hoodies, wish I had young ones..

What kind of machine did you get Karen?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I needed some deep navy colored denim so I was willing to check out 10 pair of jeans for $20, then when I got there and he understood I was cutting them up quilts, he handed me another half dozen or more!! Since included in what I bought was 2 pair of maternity jeans (one not even worn, new with tags) I'll be able to recoup the cost of the lot of the jeans by reselling those. .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a good find Pat.
Post a photo of your quilts when you get the chance. Would love to see them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy it’s a rainy cold day, see the off flurry,, brrrr

Count out templates so I can visually see how many neck warmer pieces I’ll get out of the Hyde I bought..doesn’t look too promising.

Pat, you always seem to come on top of these deal you find, love to see finished project..did you say rag quilt?

Karen, going to get out my scrapbooking papers, think I have 30 cards or so and make these

Betty, my machine is a Bernina. It only takes Bernina bobbins. The Brother I had took the plastic one use bobbins. I had a big box of those gave them to the buyer. My machine is touchy but when it works it does a good job. It's also a great sewing machine. I seldom use it for that because i still have my oldie Bernina. If it ever dies I have this one for a back up. I have three other machines too but thinking of selling them as they just sit. One is a very nice shape Singer Featherweight Centennial model. The price on those keeps climbing so worth selling soon. It actually came from Canada. The seller brought it across at Niagara and mailed from there so shipping was reasonable. I also have an older Bernina and a vintage Kenmore.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are a machine collector like I, check with fabric shops, they sell them for almost every make Karen.

I cut out the pieces, got 4 need 6, guess I will have to buy another piece, at $138+ takes this project is not very profitable...what a waste, if it weren’t for holes I could have had 8..did cut a child’s one and likely I can get another, never know if someone might want one for their little ones.

Darlene just messaged:3, she is in bed with a headache so won’t be coming over, just made bread pudding, guess I will have to eat it all lol

Karen, is your machine oneof these? There are other sites with Bernina pre wounds

I have not posted the denim quilts "PIP" as I was hoping to get them tied and bound and THEN posted. THAT first one is done. SIL Sharon & I made it for her son. There are stenciled trees & the words "All I need is a mountain breeze and trees". The backing is lumberjacks in red and teal.
#2 is the first quilt laid out that I am giving to the foster family, 3rd pic is close up of the child's name.

I HATE having to buy denim when I know if I am patient enough, I will get enough FREE. On the other hand, sometimes I feel like I have to buy to get the variety of colors that I want.
There 3 denim quilts (Stephen's & the 2 in process) are the only ones I have done with unequal blocks and incorporating large pieces like the carpenter jeans that has Miguel's name on them. It was cute and all that, but I don't think it was worth the hours and hours of extra work. I will post pictures when Miguel & Angel's quilts are DONE.
When all the blocks are cut, and I am doing a regular jean quilt with 9 x 9 blocks, for 72 x 90, I can lay it out, sew & completely serge all seams in 3 hours. Then there is the tying and binding. I don't EVEN want to think about how many more hours each of these were. When a child is in the foster system, they generally have so little that is their own. I wanted these 2 kids to know the quilts were THEIR'S, made for them only, not hand-me-downs.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well you certainly have done an excellent job on them, truly a work of art..think what will impress them the most is having their names on it..love the variety of Jean colours as well.

Drats, it’s freezing, turn fireplace on, then too hot and turn everything down..hate those days..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

My kids, grandkids, nieces & nephews always loved their jean quilts, so I hope these kids will also. My youngest just brought his quilt back for repairs. I have it all taken apart (top separated from backing & binding) and ready to patch the holes & new batting and backing. RIGHT after I soak it and get some of the dinginess out of it!! It has been "well loved" by his kids & dogs.

Likely more work than starting fresh..

Major storm just hit..Sharon is out of power, if it stays off much longer she will have to br8ng the dogs here, puppy can’t be cold, would never survive

I'm waiting for that storm to hit. I have my flashlights charged and at the ready. Just this minute I lost my satellite signal. The wind is swooping around the house.

Betty stay safe and warm inside.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You as well Dianne, on the plus side you have a wood stove and can keep warm

Hydro one is out in full force..trying to talk sharon into coming here because of little puppy but not sure she wants to take a chance driving

Keep telling her to buy a generator but she doesn’t..this week I’ll take her out to buy one, at least she would have heat in one area

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful quilts Pat.

Stay safe in that storm Betty and Dianne.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Love the quilts Pat. I saved jeans for some time to make a quilt but figured I would never get to it so I gave them to a neighbor. He was making several quilts for family members. I wanted to make a rag quilt of denim and flannel. Bet it would have weighed a ton and a half.
Betty many places say they have Bernina bobbins but most do not work well. I need to go look for another bobbin case. I'd like to have a spare.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi - popping in before I head off to sleep. Tummy's rolling and upset. Not sure I'll be able to go into work tomorrow.
Speaking of work... All's not what it seemed to be. My job's with a Condominium Support company & I like the work, and the boss, but the past 2 weeks+ she's been taking up at least 50% of my day talking about Trump, the COVID conspiracy, Globalists, and I'm feeling like a paid captive audience. She sends me emails with videos to watch at home on political subterfuge. It's depressing.
I'm going to have a respectful heart-to-heart with her, asking her to please let me do my job & not take me away with videos of things SHE's interested in.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That would be depressing for sure Susan , problem is if you speak with her
Could be end of your job as you will be part. Of the conspiracy but listening to all that garbage going home depressed is not worth it, a downer when you loved working there..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, overcast sky had a mean look to it, winds are still strong.

Dianne, hope you survived without mishap

Sharon and I are going to cookstown and barrie this morning

Need deer Hyde and needles and prewound bobbins..going early will mean home early afternoon

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Tummy's really upset, and Bernice says it's likely the nutritional yeast that I had on popcorn at the Friday Games. It was brought by a neighbour. Bernice says that it's a detoxifier and gives flu-like symptoms & I should have lots of fluids which I'm doing.
Betty - when you're a senior, you can release all sorts of toxins. Both in my body & my job. If talking to her about the depressing news she's hammering me with means I have to step away, I'm ok with that.
The toxins in my body is as short-lived as the toxins at work. She'll either agree with me, or she won't. As simple as that. I don't HAVE to have a job, nor do I need her approval if she doesn't agree. I'm fine with whatever she offers that works for ME.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Good for you Susan. Let her know how much you LIKE the job, but that the political stuff is dragging you down, she might shut up! There is hope!!! If you change the subject each time, maybe she will cease and desist! If not, she's been warned, "goodbye".

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I didn't go to work today, with my wonky tummy, so the next work day is Wednesday. I'll talk to her then.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all from winter wonderland..

Garbage to the roadside, took a trek to back shed but couldn’t find my snow shovel in the dark so will wait for daybreak and go in search of it..plowing hasn’t passed as yet but I imagine soon, perhaps the girls will decide not to come, first snow driving is always intimidating.

Susan likely nerves, Pat said it well, perhaps it will have to be bye bye

I used to spend a lot of t8me on facebook but rarely go on unless a friend messages me to go on for the same reason, sad because that also is the only way some seniors can communicate, their place to to be with friends and family, now it’s too stressful!

I wanted to come on last night but was tired, it was something I have never seen but likely many have, we were just following a Snowplow and all of a sudden it looked like it was jackknifing, we both got nervous, with the roads that we might hit it but it continued to drive down the road, using the 2 lanes truck driving straight and the 2nd ones tires following on an angle, wheel virtually going right between division line..

One was plowing left side of road, the other spraying and plowing right hand side..we followed it for about 10 miles as it took on both lanes and to out surprise all of a sudden it went back into one unit..amazing but frightening when you think driver is losing control

Time for hot chocolate and toast and I will knit a bit..speaking of knitting, had to go to almost everywhere in barrie that sold wool to find black canadianna, nada, had to buy three different makes just to get 6 skeins when I needed 12..sure hope I can get more. I’m thinking this morning, drats too late now, that b3cause you knit 100 rows circular and it’s folded in hell I could have gotten another colour and maybe last 30 rows do it in alternate colour as it’s nit seen...

Next time I go to midland I’ll check what Walmart has

Again, think entire world is either sewing or knitt8ng..not sure what the men are up to??

What is in your plans for the day?

Deb how is your daughter doing?

Sharon are you still mega cleaning and gardening, bet you’ve made great headway?

Karen, bought the fixing for snowflakes, the plastic but they had a new for around here mesh type wash away, apparently better stitching..we will see

Dianne, are you getting this snow

As daylight breaks it is pretty, now my lights and Christmas decide don’t look out of place lol

Oh my. That must have been frightening to see that in front of you. Glad he got it straightened out.

Verona, ON

No snow just fat rain.

The snowplows scared me out of my skin a few years ago on the 401 - major 3/4 lane highway here. There are at least 3 usually 4 snowplows blocking
all lanes while they do their job. No choice but to settle in and follow them

The wind was still howling here in the morning yesterday. Lots of small limbs down. I just tossed them off of the lane and will go back on a sunny day with my chain saw.

Susan you will know what to do - just trust your gut. Well not today as it is not feeling well.

Chaos is antsy to get going just had a short walk first thing.

Stay safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Butt his one is a new kind, it is on an arm and the back moves to the side and does two lanes..

Pat, trying my snow flake, will make it a smaller size to fit on a card

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty I just bought the mesh type wash away for the snowflakes too. Will be a bit before I get back to them. I now have the replacement towels for the hoods and do want to make them a priority. My machine and I now have an understanding so it's going much better.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sometimes that is all it takes Karen..lol

Took my blank Christmas cards out and only tan ones, means I’ll have to buy white..do have so many of those I cut out that we used Xmas paper/ribbon/fabric for a Christmas workshop, remember those??

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, when you don't HAVE to work, it makes life's choices easier and less stressful. It makes it more likely to get what you want since you have the ultimate ability to choose what is best for you and not endure because of financial concerns!! You go girl. Seek what is best for you. I hope it can be worked out satisfactorily.

Got my first bid and a start date of 11/30. I hope to hear from the 2nd today. I don't think he has a chance of beating the first guy's bid. We'll see.

Today is court for my youngest's wife with issues with EX and visitation etc. I do wish ALL parents & EX's put the kids first instead of their selfish pride and their own interests. Sam (Samantha) is 13 and she does NOT want to move to her father's. She would rather forego visitations most of the time. He is not a nice man!!! Praying for the best, it is so expensive and a hardship on family to continue to legal fighting. Just another reason I am grateful my kids were too old to be involved in court issues (youngest was 19 when I divorced).

I've had my grandson Aiden since Sunday night, he is 12 and I enjoy him so much. Quiet thoughtful young man. I actually set down and watched some TV with him last night. I NEVER watch TV. I got the first blanket tied last night while watching TV.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That is a nice age Pat..they love grandma and your spending time with him will always be remembered..miss those days..when they grow into men they have their own lives..

Hope court went well..be nice if courts were not so busy as to talk to the kids and see what they want..although when they are teens they tend to gravitate to parent that offers the most freedom.

June was only one to come this morning because of the storm ,nshe finished her three pillows, she was overly pleased..just spoke toOat, she is going to Orillia on Thursday and will check to see if Lehays Wool show has my Canadiana wool.

Karen are they the towel hoods on juju, they are lovely, I always admire them but I have no young ones. There was a great deal at juju, think it is on til end of month, individual designs and sets for one dollar, ordered twenty five designs ..darn my numbers key has frozen, maybe after I post I will reboot.. in the packages are nice designs for tea towels so am hoping Walmart has some plain ones

Snow is blowing, sitting here knitting with fireplace on..can feel myself nodding off so think I might have a warm bath, go downstairs and turn the embroidery machine back on to finish the snowflake then early.

Ziggy is getting tired watching me, he woke and now ready to head to the door however I’ll not let him out!

I included a photo of Paris and her baby girl, lordy she is a size

Those are some cute pillows.

Judge did not find son & wife in contempt but ordered them to pay the $!500 for Ex's attorney to file the proper paperwork that THEIR attorney did not. No other changes so it's the best outcome they could have expected.

YES, I basically NEVER hear from my son Kevin. He moved to Portland and that was pretty much that. Makes me sad, oh well.
