Best/Worse/What did I learn today?come sit a spell, Fall is in the air..come sit a spell..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just checked, flurries Monday, have seen snow around Halloween that has stayed but not the norm..have you got all your wood ready, lordy that is quite a chore..my brother Bernie isn’t happy he will not be in Florida and is cursing weather as he is cutting his wood and it’s wet..

Took hot bath, made me feel a lot cleaner, sweating so much, put cbd oil on my temples, neck, warmed up my froggie, took meds and climbed back into bed.

Once meds start working might try getting up got 1/2 hr or so

Verona, ON

It's snowing and for now it is sticking. My borrowed son cleaned all my stove pipes and chimney earlier today. Wood is all stacked in the carport

Betty don't start anything - let the meds do their job.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Lordy Dianne that is not good..thank goodness for your borrowed son.
You have snow tires on and plowing all looked after so just look at how beautiful all is

Waiting for Greg, he is working but will stop in, sump pumps are acting up, he will have a look..something to worry about..I’ve 2 sump pumps, 1 that works when power goes off that water is suppose to be sucked in when power goes out and a battery operated one, to me only battery operated one is working. Grrrr

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Your sump pumps are a constant worry!!! Has your county/or whoever, fixed the drain situation? Or have they left you in risk of flooding still???

Victoria Harbour, ON

No, said itsot in budget. Big sigh. This weekend I will go clean the grate, what happens is water doesn’t drain, stays in ground and seeps into my basement sump area..right now quite a bit of rain so that doesn’t help.

Much better, didn’t make my bed just incase I had to crawl back into it but so far so good, didn’t push it so stayed in jammies..you know me and drinking, last few days I put 1 litre juice boxes next to bed, ended up drinking 4

Sitting here quietly giving those 5 snowman final coat, made bows for shoes..just have to wire hands and signs in but going to have a nap first.lordy those little suckers are. Lot of work!

My sump pumps acted up, not sure how long it was only running on battery operated one, the alarm wouldn’t stop so by 6pm Greg came, 9:30 a plumber, was 11:30 by the time they left..

I was without a plug near zink where I plugged my kettle for about a week, this morning went to turn on dishwasher and it would work, with being sick and everything going on I wasn’t doing good..at one point Greg called me Fran. Big sigh. Anyway I thought how odd about plug and dishwasher, turned all breaker off on and one must have flipped, all ok in my world for now.

June just dropped off a box from bakery, on it said ‘hope this makes you feel better

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like its time for you to see the Dr Betty. Not good for you to have those migraine headaches for such a long time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Started to ease off..climbed back into bed this afternoon’s so hoping tomorrow I’ll be a new me

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

How are you feeling today Betty?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Feeling much better, decided i would make my bed so I couldn’t climb back into it..
It’s a rainy day, had a few snowflakes earlier..finally puy snowman piece together, what a waste of time big sigh. I don’t like those with red socks, I had made those socks a few years ago, Will when I get to Michael’s to by decorative felt redo them.

I just put a Victorian redwork piece on embroidery machine, had bought a set of ten last year and never did any oth them..this one has animal beside him, I’ll make a few and decide if they will be pillows or a throw..there is one of them that is a Santa and little boy I like..I really should be downstairs instead of sitting on the chesterfield incase machine jams or runs out of thread.

Finished that scone June brought me as a cheer me up and coffee, tummy is saying it is hungry..I’ve dran sooo much juice which I never do that it should have filled me up..maybe I will make some jello..don’t want to overdo, another 2-3 days should do it.

Still in jammies, decided I will stay in them.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

what color will you do the socks if you don't like the red?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Green
Might make a fabric run one day next week unless I can find some felt..but where lol
Used my eyes a lot today, feel a light headache..just climbed into bed, early night!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, still dark outside so decided I would have coffee and cereal and enjoy the glittering orange light glowing inside while I can enjoy, Sunday it all gets packed away. Many are still doing Halloween, I’ll head into town either today or in the morning and pick up my usual 3 cases of pop and candy for younger ones..prefer the pop as if any is left it never goes to waste.

Decided that I have to do a tad better than yesterday so had my bath and made my bath..was even going to do the bedding but Sunday is nov 1st and Christmas bedding can come out so I will wait till then..

I had eight squares appliqued with those Victorian Santa panels we used onthe sleighs we made one year , might as well use them up, could be 2 throws IF I have some fabric for borders.

Karen are you feeling better?

When is your quilt show?

Dianne, we have rain for Sunday, checked the next 2 weeks, doesn’t show flurries, here is hoping..

Sharon, how did your family gathering go, still eating leftovers

Pat, no doubt you are up to many projects

Susan, with working guess you look forward to weekends

Deb, do you get to go back to work Monday..I must show SHARON photo of you beautiful dog..

Missing Debbie, Liz, Judy and many more..if you are lurking please drop in with a ‘Hi’

Victoria Harbour, ON

Had to post, just had a little cry, out of the blue..

Wasmwatching tv, an add for IHOP came on, tears started rolling, all the trips we lost this year, we would soon be excited to do our annual Christmas shopping trip, meet up at IHOP and/or Cracjpker Barrel where Debbie would join us, the laughs and ‘tis no more..wipe a tear

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty this year has dealt us all hard blows. For the very first time in my life, the family will not be gathering for Christmas and my heart is breaking. I can understand, my daughter who usually hosts has two little grand girls. Their parents are extremely protective and would not come if it was all the family. I haven't seen them since last Christmas. I know my daughter wants Christmas with her grands so.....

I'm feeling much better now and am keeping busy catching up. I finished that quilt repair for a friend and wow it wore me out wrestling it.
Now my slate is clear and I can start all the kids gifts.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I had my SisIL here for dinner and we looked at 4 panels of horse fabric that my sister bought at thrift stores. We are planning 2 quilts; looking at using 1 panel, cutting the 2nd panel into feature blocks and making them in matching quilts for her granddaughters. the DGD don't celebrate Christmas so we don't have that constraint.
My youngest son & wife are having more drama. Her ex is taking them back to court. I feel bad for them. I paid the cost last time and I don't have the money to spare. She is having more anxiety/ PTSD from the whole flooding incident back in February and she feels her boss may not offer her a new contract this spring. Sooooo much stress for them. It's hard to watch them go thru this.

I got Adam's zipper replaced in his expensive hunting jacket, the closure done on sister's dress project and NOW hope to return to my projects!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful snowmen Betty.

Pat, those panel quilts sound pretty. Sorry to hear about the court case coming up.

Karen, glad to hear you are doing better.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Senior Night at the game. Wanted to go because of Payton. After being mild all week, it was 47 and I froze my tushie. Ceremony was at half time and then we left. Still can't get warm.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, Happy Halloween

although on the cool side think whichever children will be trick or treating will have a nice evening for it..

think I’m over what I had, thank goodness

Went to midland yesterday, got groceries, 4 cases of pop, box of chocolates and box of popcorn boxes, am sure I will have plenty..have a few ideas to give children their treats while social distancing, now to organize the best!

Karen that was awfully cold for you to be out in, here is hoping you don’t come down with something..

Pat, my heart breaks for you, harder watching your kids and grandkids going through things than going through ourselves... I did a zipper in a construction jacket for brian’s Son as she didn’t feel she could do it, as it happened it was easy going..I do not like putting in zipper or doing alterations..

Sewed on of this throws with the Victorian Santa squares, have another to put together this morning then see if I’ve enough backing to allow me to quilt them..am sure over the weekend I can get them done.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, I'm with you on zippers and alterations. My aunt managed the alterations dept. at Jacobson's. Now that was many moons ago. I would sometimes go in and help during the holidays. Good money but I sure didn't much like it.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hi All - Happy Hallowe'en!! Will you be getting kids coming to the door, do you think?

Yes, weekends are nice. Work Mon, Wed, Thurs, and volunteer on Tues & Friday, so the weekends ARE nice to do stuff for myself "me time". I try to squeeze some in. It's nice to earn a paycheque, and also nice to work where I do, with Bernice.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I went back to work last Weds, I had a scheduled vacation day on Thursday, so AT&T could come in and run fiber for my internet, and then went back in yesterday. I think everyone else that was off, other than the woman who tested positive will be in on Monday.
I'm sure not real impressed with this fiber internet. They said it will be so much faster, it's no different, at least not that I can see. But, they sent out a letter last month saying that as of Oct 31st they were deactivating whatever the internet service was that I had, so it was install fiber or do without. And, I was assured I would see a huge difference, I don't. At least it means I got a good deep cleaning done at home, so I felt comfortable having a stranger coming in. And the dogs didn't bark too much. Don't know why they decide to do this in the middle of a pandemic. I wasn't keen on having a stranger in the house, but, he wore a mask and gloves inside.

Victoria Harbour, ON

In high school school Karen they taught us to sew, with grandma it was quilts..remember making aprons, houses and skirts..I was excited about the program just NOT the projects.i remember Miss Boyer and Mrs. Martin, they were sister who taught grade 6 to 8, great teachers but was excited that once I’d be in high school I’d get someone new, well as it happened both went to summer school, Mrs. Martin taught home economics and Miss Boyer science...for years after I got married when I would visit my home town I would visit with them...shows you how good they were.

Sharon has been havoc a heck of a time with a quilt, wouldn’t you know it’s once she sold..yesterday she spend morning pulling out quilting and I spent 2 1/2 hrs setting a new block in, this morning she was concerned with another issue, got that fixed, she sure will feel better to get it off the frame.

We both bought a kit about a year ago, was penguins done on really good flannel, she has top done and ready to quilt..best I get working on mine.

Having baked potatoes and cabbage roll, spaghetti sauce simmering..she just messaged me, wanted to take me out for supper, nope little kids will c9me early for sure treat or treating...yes Susan I’m sure there will will be some..most people are making sure they don’t come into contact with kids as to pass Covid..I’m going to line all the different traits on the porch railing, will have screen open so they can see me and give them options, pop or pkgs popcorn or 2 chocolate bars..

Just came in, have all the lights ready to turn on, I enjoy seeing kids more than they enjoy trick or treating..sunny out there, not till you go out do you realize just how cold it is

Susan I’m so glad you are enjoying work and especially your coworker..not always do you get someone’s you like to work with.how is your weather?

Just remembered about an hour or so ago that deadline for snowmobile passes is today..believe the trail permits are $200 and I need 3, Kyle,Noah and Greg..can be done online so I messaged Kyle my cc info and hopefully in his busy schedule he will make the deadline, if he doesn’t oh well, I’ll not pay $240 each

Best I go downstairs, getting those Christmas throws ready for quilting

I’ll call it quits around 4

Enjoying (or not!) can break or make your employment.

A Bazillion years ago, when I was in my senior year of high school, I needed a "1/2 class" to fill my time since I drove into town for a vocation class. I took independent Home Ec. Just meant I had to show I did SOMETHING, no formal class. I mended all the wrestlers singletons, the football uniforms AND the shop teachers' insulated camouflaged hunting overalls. Not to mention the occasional, still warm, jeans while some student was waiting in the boys rest room! I'm good at it, I just don't enjoy it!!!

I worked on the boys 2 denim quilts again yesterday and would love to have at least ONE top laid out for piecing. It will be like a giant jigsaw puzzle.

I don't get but a few Trick or Treaters, and I imagine even less this year!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Happy Halloween everyone. Trick or treat is not allowed door to door here. There are a few businesses that have advertised drive through. Pretty sad kids have to miss out on the fun. Our numbers keep going up, and the city is talking about putting out more restrictions or closing some places like bar's and gyms. We have travel restrictions in place, but most ignored it. Several have been arrested, as they go out to public places like stores and restaurants, knowing they have been tested positive.

Victoria Harbour, ON

They are allowing it here, there are organizations you could drop things off to and they bagged them, think they are ready for about 300..you had to pre register and they gave a time so there would only be a few at a time....passed their yard today, talk about decorated..

For me I put lights on outside and out pop, popcorn, chocolate bars out, self serve lol

I may not get any but am hoping young ones do come out..the Victoria web site asked who and where the shellers would be, put my address down..if I get more than 80 I will shut lights off.

When in town today on my home from foodland I could not remember a year that so many decorated to the hilt..nearly really nice. Small communities are so inviting.

Cooked spaghetti and now I’m not hungry.

Ray who does yard maintenance came and did the yard, he will be back next weekend to blow out the gardens and eaves and thinks the rest of the trees will have lost the rest of their leaves and thinks come spring it will be a quick run through.

Pat, now that sounds like an interesting way to earn a class, just up your alley. Don’t even think they teach sewing 8n school anymore..this year, of course in January/February I had thought how I would live to do a few classes for young ones but Covid put the end to that..big sigh

Sorry Lindakay that your area numbers are climbing, sad that it has become a political stand Nd many will not adhere to regulation and not wear masks..hate to think about what is about to happen, the numbers of people who will lose loved ones because of it.

Think Simcoe where we are have just had more outbreaks, a few in midland and a few in town..yesterday when I was at the dollar store a young woman was shopping with no mask, minstayed quite a distance from her.who knows maybe it was because of a medical condition..wonder what the protocol is for that.

61 kids so far
Think parents are making a point to put some normality to the day..teens didn’t come yet, will keep lights on til 8:30 then that is it

Victoria Harbour, ON

Overcast this morning, Suzanne will be here to sew for the morning, likely means I won’t be sewing lol. Helping her..

Time change screws one up..did get one tote filled with Halloween have to go to back shed for a tote..sure looks bare in here, no colour, just the Halloween wreath to pack.

Had 82 kids in total, shut my lights at 9

Best I do something with my hair as Suzanne will be here shortly

Beautiful display Betty. Knowing you, you will have everything decorated for Christmas pretty quickly.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

It was NOT up my alley when the whole thing started but hey, I did feel good about doing the service for the school. I graduated with 40 kids, the biggest class they had so far! LOL...
I imagine if a poll was taken, less than 25% of the women in my church have sewing machines, and we're a group more likely to than others! LOL... When we used to have "Super Saturday", a special craft day once a year, the sewing classes were moderately successful. The painting classes were better attended as women saw it as a cheap easy way to make gifts and not have to go out and buy all the different colors they needed etc. I used to be part of the group that organized those functions.
My sons were so used to seeing go off to teach a craft class that when I had them load up my car for a COOKING class, they asked "What? did the teacher bail at the last minute?" They only saw me as teaching sewing and other crafts. Not sure what that says about their view of me as a cook!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lindakay I am hoping I can find another few bins in back shed to finish up fall so I don’t have to empty a Christmas bin..usually I’d be decorating for Christmas already but??

Never wondered Pat who sees in this area, know the girl across the street does, big yawn lol and yes painting is a lot cheaper by far. I was recreation coordinator for Georgian Bay township, seems so long ago, guess it is, I was responsible forevents and recreation activities for all the communities, an arena, 3 community centres and 12 cottage associations, ever so busy.

Suzanne just left, she got her borders on the guilt she mDe last year, hopefully I can get it quilted.

Winds are high, we had sleet this afternoon

Well I guess I should have spaghetti, didn’t eat it last night, not hungry for it but best I have a meal before I freeze it.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sleet already, YUK~~~!!

Coordinating craft events etc was in your blood Betty!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, everything covered in Heavy frost, we were lucky seeing barrie had a storm major pile ups, much same in Toronto.to be expected, tis the time of year!

Nothing much to do today, might squeeze in washing the floors so I will spend time sewing..close to finishing the 2 Victorian Santa throws..time to move on to another project

Once I get breakfast I will get dressed warmly on try and do a few more things on my list of winterizing, look for another tote to set fall away, if I can’t find an empty one then a Christmas tote will have to come in.

Washing my bedding, while I am on it might as well set Christmas quilt on it

Coffee time

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Stay warm Betty.

We are supposed to reach 80 today.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

80? Now you are just BRAGGING LindaK!! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy Lindakay it’s snowing lightly here,

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I could send you all some warmth.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wish you could as well, cold here today.

Having trouble with water pressure, called township and within 1/2 hr a young man was here..nothing wrong with their l8ne, just called a plumber. Grrrr

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Always seems to be something.
Praying it is an easy fix.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Likely the cost of a home visit, easy fix but they have a shut off valve way to heck near the ceiling so I told them next time they are in area to put a shut off valve with a toggle switch on the pipe where I can reach it..nice young men

With all these problems etc my stomach started to churn, just drank a steaming cup of tea and now I’m heading to bed, had enough of today!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, it’s a sunshine day in my neighbourhood, couldn’t go out without a coat but sure feels nice coming in through windows, except my windows need a good cleaning..

Was hoping to be able to get a haircut today but only appointment it tomorrow 2:30
Big sigh, look like the witch from the north.

Mom called me last night to say she is coming up to aunt Muriel’s, told her to come sleep here as aunt Muriel only has a little settee and too uncomfortable for her..woke up this morning thinking she had asked me to save her a snowman felt hat as she wanted to decorate it herself, oops I had decorated them all so instead of listening to her tell me how badly she wanted one I made the glue/coffee/cinnamon mixture and baked it, so now she will be happy lol

Took fall totes out to the back shed, ok so a few Christmas ones came in..last year I had sprayed a bunch of charger plates and big juice cans black and made metal snowman hats..there was the fixings for 4 more..have 3 I’m trying to get rid of so not sure what I will do with these.

The 2nd bin had Santa bag and Santa hanging saying Santa workshop open so set them in craft room..

Think8ng of putting all the empty bins under the enclosed porch area, would save me a trip to back shed after Christmas or I could just when packing them up set them back there and save shovelling pathway to back shed.

I said all along NO taking things out for Christmas but I think I’m losing the battle.

What are you all up to today?
