Now this is fun and so far they are going well. This is called FSL...Free Standing Lace. The plastic looking stuff they are on is water soluable stabilizer. When they are all done, I will give them a very quick dip in hot water and most of the stabilizer will dissolve. I don't want it all to go away as I want them to be somewhat stiff to hang on the tree. These are about 4". They can be made bigger.

Those are beautiful. I have read that you need to starch them pretty good.
I used to make crocheted ornaments and my mom made tatted ones. I actually used watered down Elmer's glue then pinned them out on a wax paper covered piece of styrofoam. These if you don't rinse out all the stabilizer, they will dry stiff enough to hang on the tree. Of course if they ever need washing, then I would have to stiffen again. Several have advised saving scraps of the stabilizer to use for stiffening.
