Glad she called, such a worry when there is no contact.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

My grandson that that lives in Spokane, who will be in the 5th grade, had his school cancel because of the smoke. His district was actually having children go to class.

My housekeeper was here all day and my home looks wonderful. And I tell her every time she leaves, how wonderful she is and that I appreciate her.

I was going to finish cleaning my other third of my patio today but got way to many interruptions. I will do it tomorrow.

Betty, I am so pleased you stayed on the couch. And I also know how hard that is do.

My sister has a son and grandson that live in Salem and they say it is horrible. We were getting smoke in the skies again today.

When I was taking 10mg of Ambien to sleep I would sleep eat. Usually ice cream. But I am now on 5mg and do not have that problem.

I got on here late and I need to get the puppies outside to go potty and get to bed.
I will try to get on here earlier tomorrow.

Pacifica, CA

Evening all,
Betty im good my mom is making me nuts!!
Just when i have days off she fills it up with projects lol makes me exausted!

Were suffering from the fires, air quality had gotten into purple very bad, were just tired of not being able to open doors and windows.
Last week scared the heck out of us it was so bad it stayed dark as night all day.
My customers kept asking so is this how we end?
Aside from that just working, not too much on projects just dont have time.
Look foward to starting something soon
Want to decorate, maby next week, my mom is so anti everything !!!!
Ill be back going to bed.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning everyone.
Thanks for checking in Liz. I can't imagine living in an area with all that smoke. Stay safe.
Betty, our covid numbers are slowly going down. Only 20 for last weekend. Total cases for our town is 2103, 92 deaths. We are all praying the numbers don't jump because of labor day weekend.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Good point LindaK. Seems like the long weekends bring on my visitors & more Covid.

My weekend visitors canceled due to smoke. Curbside pickup for the library was discontinued for now.

I'm beginning to think if I want that desk and secretary to EVER leave my barn that I will have to deliver it! It's not the distance that worries me, it's driving the pickup on a busy highway. The visibility in it is NOT as good as I like, and no cruise control. I am considering selling it. My sister and my Sister in law both have pickups if I need to borrow one. With no longer having to go to work, having a "back up" vehicle is no longer as important to me.

I was never been enmormed with hanging clothes to dry. I really tried when I lived in Portland 40 years ago... but there was a snake I encountered a couple of times and I wussed out. We had a long clothes line growing up, my Mom gave up hanging clothes when the neighbor got a jackass and it made the backyard stink.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, sooo cold here today, sunshine but windy.

Liz am so glad you posted, was worried.you will have to tell your mom you need to schedule what you want to do and more importantly up to what you can do..you always had projects on the go, maybe you need to go in search of a unique craft and make some..darn tonget back into it when you stop.

smoke must be difficult for those with breathing problems....life isn’t getting better for many, Personal ills,Covid and Mother Nature having a meltdown..each day there seems more challenges.
Mississippi hurricane doesn’t sound good either..

Usually Pat and June come Tuesday mornings, knew Pat would be away, no sooner did I get garbage out June called said she wasn’t feeling well, all I had to hear, headed to the couch

Victoria Harbour, ON

I’m back, Sharon just dropped supper off to me, won’t have to cook tonight.

So many I talk to have complete opposites views Lindakay, some say just get on with everyday living, no worse than regular flu while other fear what getting back to normal they may lose their lives and worse yet some of their beloved family members.

Hear Trump saying that by next month a new vaccine will be on market for all to take, not so sure I’d take it as what to heck would the outcome be in a few years after taking it...guess we all have to follow our own path and destiny.

Was funny last night, just got into hot tub when Greg came in, he sat and as I approached hunched back and difficulty walking he said ‘ so mom, dancing with 20;year old football players, playing at being a cheerleader, dancing on tables, driving bikes while carrying heavy bags, how is that doing for you now?” Smart a~§...

Pat, couldn’t you give them a deadline and if not picked up put on roadside for FREE. Might be worth considering downsizing to one vehicle..I was going to get a new vehicle, looked at them but gm hasn’t one that is calling my name so sticking with this 2017, for all it moves nowadays why bother, mileage 37,500 kilometres on it.

Going to push myself off the couch, need to be productive, get angry with myself if I don’t!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I agree. My oldest son thinks like that. He won't wear a mask unless he has too or for work. There have been many reports out, about how bad the covid numbers are flat out wrong. CDC came out and said only 6% of deaths are truly just from covid. All others had underlying health issues. Hard to know who to believe.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

There's the thing Linda, you just can't believe any one these days. I'm very leery of the vaccine. I don't feel it's been tested enough and they are rushing it too much.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

45 years ago (WOW.... I am getting old!) I was working for Emanuel hospital, and I think it was swine flu that was the big issue. Anyhow, employees were all told to get the vacine, the hospital was providing it. I refused, I was pregnant and NO WAY was I getting that shot although they assured me it was safe for Pg women..... later, they changed their mind. It was NOT safe for pg women. I got a lot of flack and pressure for my decision but forunately they could NOT make me....

The problem with NOT wearing the faces is that it contributes to OTHERS getting it that are NOT healthy enough to survive the Covid. Yes, I struggle to wear a mask. My respiratory system is NOT good and the mask makes breathing even harder, but when in public, I wear it.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I wear the mask in public but I do not go out that often. If and when I go out I try to make all my stops the same day. Friday, I have a hair cut so I will also drop by the plant nursery, accountant's office, Trader Jo's and then home. I will be totally exhausted by the time I get home because the mask wears me out. I also carry hand sanitizer in my car and clean my hands every time I get back in the car.

We have been having about 250 a day with the virus and about 4 to 6 deaths a day. It has slowed down from the 700 hundred a day but I think that was brought on by an increase in testing. I know two people that tested positive and had no symptoms.

It is hitting the Hispanic population very hard but they live, eat and party together. Very close knit families and friends. But the majority of those dying are sick from some other problem. Being overweight or having diabetes is not good. Some of my neighbors are not leaving there homes and some go as they want to. I do not wear a mask when I walk the dogs twice a day, but if someone is coming our way, we both separate and do not get close.

All we can do is pray. My son, who lives in Spokane is experiencing the smoke. His son Luke, who is 10 now and will be 11 in November, was suppose to start in class school on Monday but could not because of the smoke. Maybe next Monday.

Another day has come to and end in the West and time for me to go to bed.

Betty, so pleased you could relax a day, if that is possible for you.

Next week I am going to clean out Vern's office upstairs. Put it off long enough. I am actually getting the house ready to sell and I think it will take me over a year to get everything sorted and disposed of.

Have a great day tomorrow. Hugs, Sharon

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Where will you move too Sharon?

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I wear a mask where it's required, but really don't go out much. The numbers have always been low here as we are rural. We are close to Knoxville and of course they are much higher and got more aggressive in requiring masks. Almost never go there.

Verona, ON

Not a good day here. Woke up with vertigo and found a lump on Chaos' belly. Pulled he sheets over my head and went back to bed. Just resurfaced and nothing has changed. Going to pull those sheets back over my head and cuddle Chaos.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Dianne, I know that must be worrisome.

Victoria Harbour, ON

It’s a sunshine day, can’t believe I didn’t go outside today..

Hugs Dianne, some days are like that, covers over head and hope for the next day to be better, Hope Chao’s lump is not a major concern.

Sharon, maybe you are prolonging cleaning out Vern’s Office is to not move..where ever you move though I’m sure a garden area will be a must.

Pat, I was with my dad who was dying during SARS..only one of us could be in with him..thank God I could so he wasn’t alone when he died..must be terrible for families...you were quite right in refusing vaccine.

As it happens the doctor is coming tonight to give me neck injections and a few vaccines, hasn’t been fun last few days..usually takes awhile before he comes, told his secretary when she took my call. “Hurry, hurry” guess he listened lol

As for Covid I imagine that many people who have died of it were indeed people with pour immune but without the masks it’s almost like were purging the weaker population..so much for my thoughts

Victoria Harbour, ON

Doc just came

Needles, needles and more needles
Gave them both sides of shoulders, this time it hurt big time

He explained the sciatic nerve, going to order more of what he puts in my shoulder and will give me a shot in butt..not a lot that can be done...did say I should set timer for every 6 hours to take Tylenol 3 and to use cbd oil, doesn’t interfere with pain meds.

Most of all don’t overdo, be kind to myself without guilt, tired, go to bed. Big sigh

Gave me the pneumonia and tetanus shots and said Oct.12th they have me down for the stronger flu vaccine because I’m over 65..

Might have to up meds

Will check my file then call me..wants to see if he or others missed something

Was watching untold stories of museums, he said that was excellent, gives the mind food for thought, not the passive shows one usually watch..said I was feeding the mind..

So am going to make myself comfy in bed..

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I had a board meeting via Zoom this afternoon. Didn't get much else done.

When I move, I will move to same area, jut a smaller home. My current home is 4700 sq. ft. Way to big for one person. Probably too big for two people but that is what we built. I was looking at my back garden yesterday and the majority of it I can duplicate easily. And my patio is over 150' long and I only use about 50' of it. My major problem is finding a smaller home with big enough master bedroom.

Betty, I am hoping you are feeling better. I am sure it was those covers you were making for your porch. You kept saving how heavy they were.

We are suppose to get a report from our Governor today about how we are doing on the virus.

My garden helper will be here tomorrow so I need to finish my taxes. Have a great evening everyone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

It’s such a beautiful home and gardens to die for but that is a lot of square footage to look after on your own. Maybe you can find a place that 2 bedrooms can be turned into one..I often thought, and it wouldn’t be difficult to open my bedroom and that which overlooks the gardens but never do.

Hope your governor has good reports.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, sorry to hear you have vertigo, and that you found lumps on Chaos. Praying they are nothing more than fatty tissue build up. Our dogs have them. Vet says it is nothing to worry about.
Betty, praying your shots today, will give you some relief.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes Betty, sure hoping after the pain of the shots, you will get relief.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sunshine day in my neck of the woods, supposed to be in the low 70s

Leaving here at 11:30 to go to Bala, nice cottage town on the lake, friend of mine owns a Fish and chips restaurant on the reserve,I’m not overly fond of fish but the other girls are and they say Mrs. B’s Bertha’s is one of the best.

So far the needles aren’t working, likely take a few days..as for trying Tylenol 3 every six hours, nope, not setting alarm to take at midnight, was up all night, guess I broke the sleeping pill effect.

It’s moms birthday today, likely she will be here when I get back from Bala..her neighbor took photo’s last night of their celebrating with her.

This morning I finished ironing pieces for 3 gnome bench pillows , now ready to Applique.

Also got the P and L turkey pillows ready for linda. I do well early a.m. but fizzle out about noon.

Found a Christmas kit, guess tomorrow I can play cut outs again

Laying here resting waiting for the gals

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Betty, I LOVE that owl pillow!!!

What would happen if you painted or stenciled the Tree Farm wording instead of aplique? Maybe in black but smaller blocker letters? If I could knock out a wall and gain a view of the backyard garden, I would do it Betty!!!

Sharon, good luck on finding your new, smaller place. I hope you find just what you want with all the beauty of your current home on a smaller scale! Getting only what you will use and need!

When I picked up the free dresser last night, I left a SeaHawk face mask as a thank you gift. The owner had set the dresser out next to his porch since he wasn't going to be home. Only masks I have made lately are camoflauge for my youngest son.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now you suggest the stencil Pat lol

got them cut out and ironed pieces then off to Bala, we were 1 week too early to see cranberry gathering at the marsh..bought cranberries and cranberry horseradish jelly yum yum

Sat at the falls for lunch, water was crystal clear.

Mom was here when I got home..already told her it would be an early night for me.

Happy birthday to your mom Betty.
Beautiful scenery.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Amazing pictures! That cranberry horseradish jelly sounds interesting. Sounds like something I would want on cracker with cream cheese.

Things to do... grandkids are coming to use internet. There hotspot is not working for school. Adam (my youngest) has had an internet company come and they can't get a signal there. Wife is park ranger and they would have to cut down some trees to get "line of sight" and there is NO way they will get permission for that. They are going to try another company... I don't hold out much hope.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pat, would be difficult for sure being without wifi..we are spoilt having all of the services we have.

Just climbed into bed, kept busy from early morning til just now

Having brunch for about 16, told them to wear jackets so we can be outside and social distance so hope no wind and no rain .. cooked and prepped food all day so tomorrow should be easy.

took more ’s today as per doctors orders, actually climbed into bed with littler pain.

Neighbours came over when they saw me out cutting grass, said they were concerned when they did not see me out all week, wanted to check on me but didn’t think they should intrude being new neighbours.

Soooits sleep time for me, hope sandman finds me..want to be up at 6 though.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Don't know how you function taking those pills. I take half of one, and i can't function at all. Make me feel like I have been drinking all day. I have to take mine at bedtime.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Cool and overcast, have it set up for either outside or inside.

Have 2 ten lbs bags of potatoes home fried in oven, sausages, bacon and peameal bacon in warmer..toast and omelettes I will do when everyone leaves.
Sure glad most of my cutting and pre cooking I got done yesterday..from 10 to 11 I get to rest.. well almost, mom was telling me to sit seeing as I was dusting and prettying things up lol

Lindakay, those Tylenol 3 do nothing for me except dull the pain..hate to think what is next on the scale for pain.

Verona, ON

Sunny and crisp here. 52*F

Have been to Foodland and stopped at the market. Only 4 vendors there and no one with squash. When I am in Ktown on Mon I'll check to see if the 1 huge Farm stand in the Canadian Tire parking lot is still there.

Betty T3s do nothing for me either. Next step up for me is Fentanyl. I have to be very careful when I take it as I end up doing bizarre things. Sometimes the pain is just so bad you have to take it.

How kind of you Pat to leave the mask behind. I just ordered a couple of Peony masks on Etsy. They just really struck my fancy.

Chaos and I have walked twice. We are both going to lounge around for awhile..... Chaos wants to head to be the bedroom.

Enjoy your lunch Betty. It sounds yummy.

What's everybody up to this weekend ?

Crowd just left, dishwasher going and i am resting..when I get a spurt of energy I’ll finish clean up. Sooo much food left, could feed another group, some I can freeze, other in garbage.

Dianne he talked about fentanyl patches but not ready yet

Mom is going to Sharon’s tomorrow so I won’t feel like I have to entertain.

Sure won’t be a late night.

Betty, you look lovely. Our temp today was 95. Going to be that for the next few days. 95 is doable. My painters got done with my outside privacy walls between my neighbors and redid stucco. It sure does look nice. I purchased 2 gallons of paint and it took 9. The walls are stuccoed and just sucked up the paint.

Tomorrow is a day of rest for me and then Monday I will start on Vern's office upstairs.
My biggest clean-out will be my gardening area in the garage and my Christmas storage area.

I told my daughter yesterday that I was putting my home on the market in April 2021 and will decide what area I am moving into but I will make sure it is close to her but not across the street. So it will not be far from where I am now and that will be good because every place I go is close by.

Betty you look fantastic in your photos. If I had done all that you did, I would have needed to have someone hold me up. Two ten bags of potatoes. Tylenol 3 acts like speed in my body.

The dogs got two walks today and a needed bath. They get a bath once a week because they get so dirty in their beard area.

I purchased a butternut squash at Trader Jo's yesterday. I am going to make butternut soup later in the week. Trader Jo's and Sprouts is about as close as we get to a Farmer's market. When I went to the nursery on Friday, they had not vegs seeds. This is the time of year you plant lettuce, spinach and such. Totally sold out. I will have to order some on line.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sunshine day,

Mom is just leaving for sharon’s, will give me the morning to get house back in order and will pick a project that won’t take energy out to rest but first mega work.

All the chairs I set outside in a circle were not used so time to set them back in their rightful place, have burning to do and guess I could put out the big gall scarecrow, haven’t seen pumpkins around to make fall display but I’m sure if I get some done it will be easier once I can get pumpkins and mums another fall task done. Smiling, I say in one breath I want to rest today and yet I make a list that I’d be working till dawn doing 😂

Sharon, shaking my head with a smile when I hear you say it will be in the 90’s and bearable. Well, you’ve made a commitment to the move with a time frame, that is half the battle isn’t it.

Won’t get what I’d like done if I keep sitting here..I’ll come back to chat on breaks

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sharon, that does sound like a practical deadline. I hope you find just what you are looking for, in the area you want. It sounds like you have the time and money to hold out for "exactly" what you want (or can remodel into what you want!)

Moving is hard work but the "looking to buy" is exciting. Our purchasing in Othello was "easy", we only looked at a few houses but ended up buying the first one. It really fit our needs, I was able to negotiate a favorable deal for all concerned and it worked out great.

The house in Kennewick, there were not really many choices that met our needs and affordable. By then Ben was in a wheelchair, and although HE didn't think he would remain in one, I wanted to prepare "as if" the wheelchair was going to be permanent. He had just had 2 hips surgeries and thought he would walk again.

I sure did not like this house when we bought it!! The kitchen was cramped, it had dingy carpet everywhere. We have done a lot of work here. It's not my dream home, but is attractive and livable now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Lordy Pat, you are always working on/in your home, everything by now must be replaced...

Got chairs put away, did some cutting of fleece plants, burning 8n pit, vacuuming and now to do the floors. While putting the 5 ft scarecrow out I noticed he is missing a hand, not sure I have lumber wide enough to cut a new one today but will look..have no clue as to where it could have gone..big sigh

Running out of steam so once floors are done I’ll iron on adhesive backing to fabric so I can play cut out seeing I don’t need to do much for supper, sure got plenty of home fries lol

Verona, ON

Glorious, crisp but sunny Fall day here. I love it !!

Sharon how is the LV real estate market now ? I remember but this was years ago another DGer had been trying to sell her house for well over a year. Every other house on the block but 1 had a for sale sign on it. Here if you are on waterfront it is sold almost before the listing contract is signed.

Pat DH and I renovated our fair share of houses over the years. When we built this house I was adamant that it would need no changes over the years. Of course I was dead wrong ...... new windows and doors, a screened in room added and on and on.

Have slowly this morning cleaned out the shelves and drawers in the main bathroom. Somehow I don't think I need to hang onto Warren's meds. Plus a lot of outdated OTCs.

So what is everybody else doing today ? Hopefully you are having the same weather was I am. It is 50*F in the house. I could start a fire but I just put on a sweater and socks.

Stay safe and well.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

This house needs LOTS more work that I will never get to. The 4th bedroom has the worse job of sheetrock I have EVER seen AND the windows back there are single pane!

All the wood work is beat up from Ben's wheelchair. The game room/family/sewing had OLD linoleum tile under the carpet I pulled up. I wanted to replace it with the same laminate flooring that is in hall, kitchen, entry, laundry & 3rd bathroom, but the manufacturer has not done another run of it, & I don't know if they ever will. With retirement I am too stingy to spend any savings on that now, so I live with the linoleum that is OLD and not in great shape some places. .

My sister is coming over today and we will hang out, maybe sew on a dress she gave up on her granddaughter. She tried to modify a pattern and well.... let's just say she is not a very experienced clothing maker. .

I would love to spend a few minutes outside working. The breeze has kicked up so I won't be doing any spraying. I SHOULD have done that really this morning!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well I think you have it all under control, seems overwhelming at time but ever so gratifying when done..
I’m thinking of having back entrance stairs changed next spring so they are a ramp, know what is coming!

Dianne, you are having same weather as we are having, nicer days star Wednesday..will be time to get fall winterizing done. Did you get all your wood pilled?

Mom wants me to do something on her curtains, lordy I don’t feel like it..must I?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Our weather is cooler, about 78 today. It feels pretty nice. We are predicted to have 90's this week for our high temps, and about mid 70's at night. Not bad at all.
Betty, it is amazing how something like that hand can go missing. I hope it is an easy fix.
Hubby had to actually cut the grass and weeds, because of the rain we had last week. Amazing how quickly it can all grow.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Nope, you do NOT have to do it. You should not feel guilty that it is not how you want to spend today, hemming curtains. That is heavier, more challenging than playing with your cut-outs. Please don't feel guilty.
