Thanks for the new room Betty.
It hit 103 today.

I was just bored, so dug out some different fabrics.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Very hot here too. Too hot to porch sit.
Every time I talk to someone in MI, something else has been planned for while we are there. Girls are being baptised, Marcus' grad party, some birthday parties.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Gorgeous day out. Went to coffeetime this morning, then to town, and walked a bit. Nothing like what I did 2 days ago - I was showing a neighbour our yard & garden, and sudden my wrist started vibrating - my Fitbit was setting off fireworks on screen lol I'd done 10k steps that day, so it was celebrating 🤣
Bob's finished the swing for me, on the back deck. Although, he wants to change out the yellow tow rope for a silver chain.
our back garden, side garden, veggie garden, and our neighbour's new pug - she's only about 9 weeks old

A well tended vegetable garden is a thing of beauty! That little pug is a heart stopper, so cute!!! I hope they are prepared for the shedding! Pugs shed a dog a day!

Linda K, those masks are very elegant and fun!

Morning all, almost a sunshine day, not suppose to rain but I hear rumbling in the far distance. Set the garbage to the roadside and climbed back into bed..as a try to go back to sleep I’m thinking what a waste of a morning if I do doze off..

nothing like walking out into your garden Susan and picking crops of your choice,..so tasty. Bob is working hard keeping you happy..yellow is so nice and bright.will you get any time away this year in the r.v.?

Are you like me Lindakay having to dig a little deeper to find fabric? I’ve got yardage but don’t want to use that.

I’ve left the baby blankets and placemats go by the wayside and now I need both projects not the 1st so I think by typing this message I just talked myself into getting up and at it. Not sure if I mentioned but the other day I bought a dog machine embroidery design, have to try it one of the days.

Pat are you training anyone for your job or will they do so after you’ve retired?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, fabric is getting down there. I went to hobby lobby last week, and picked some up. It was nice to be with one of our quilting friends for the day.
Beautiful garden Susan.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I'm hoping we'll get away in the rv, but Monday Paul said he'd keep it for another week........ positive side of this, is I can look out my side window & SEE the neighbourhood. I can sit on my front deck & not look to either side of the rv & SEE the neighbourhood fully. Not parking it at the empty lot we used to have in the park - the owners of the Park want $30/month just to keep it there. The lot now has a home on it & it's being remodelled. No one lives there yet though.

Love your fancy masks, Linda Kay! Too bad there aren't dog shows going on, yet. I could see many of the handlers wanting masks like yours! Blingy, sparkly suits and dresses are really the thing most handlers wear.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My friend made a bunch of silver sequins and satin masks for wedding. She sold them for $15.00 each. They are praying the wedding doesn't get cancelled due to this virus.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

My daughter's sister in law was supposed to get married at the end of August. It was going to be a big wedding, but the venue wouldn't give them a refund for cancelling, but would allow them to postpone. They're just going to go to the courthouse to get married, and have the reception late next year. I hope you're friends wedding gets to go on as planned.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon, gee whizz I missed the morning..storm is brewing so not really an outside kind of day.

Was up early, seems I’m working in slow motion but feel I’m accomplishing much.

Finished 2 masks, have 4 more half finished, working on the baby quilt, put roast of beef on, taters cooking and just waiting for pie crust to cool an am now deciding if I want coconut cream or lemon meringue for the filling?

Lindakay, to someone who doesn’t know the time involved or cost of fabric they likely would think that is expensive but it surely isn’t.

Sadnthat so many have to cancel their wedding plans, not sure I agree with no refund??

Susan, it takes up much of your lot I’m sure..I’ve a big lot and yet I get annoyed when Greg brings the Foxy Lady in spring seeing it’s been many years since I’ve taken her out. This year greg paid for inside storage, mega $$$. I asked him how much and he said not my concern lol. Hope you do get out for awhile..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - the rv doesn't take up a lot of our lot. Our lot's 43ft wide, and our parking area is in the front - half is parking, and half is front yard. Our side window looks to the side yard & parking spots. The front deck, being on the side of our home looks towards the parking spots (2). Usually the RV is in the spot that, while it gives us privacy, also blocks the view from our deck.
Our lot is 150 ft long

Good morning everyone. Looks like we will have 100+ temperatures for awhile. No rain in site. No one has green grass. Just brown crunch stuff in the yards. Water prices and restrictions keep us from watering.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Wow, LK - that's not good for your growing season, or anyone sensitive to heat. Hope you're taking care of yourself.

Last night we had a real gully-washer, and as we were working outside yesterday, I took our cordless phone out. Guess who forgot it outside? yep, me....... took the batteries out & used the hair drier. Got it on charge now. Hope it works, or we're getting a new set.......

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Susan, I know with cell phones if you bury them in rice it draws the moisture out. You might try that.

At work we actually had an extra Case manager hired and in training. That position was a "growth" position so we were building his case load. We also have another guy that is building a load. I can't help but feel a little resentful. when most of us were hired we were thrown into full loads of 75+. I have 85 now and last I knew one Newbie had 11 and the other didn't even have 40. So why do I have 4 monolingual Spanish speaking clients on my case load when "40" is bilingual? Oh welll. today & all of next week and GONE.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty you haven't posted in a few days. Everything OK?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon or is it almost evening,....

Pat, not a wonder you are counting the days, you will be in 7th heaven I’m sure..can't wait, for,it to come..

Deb, are you also counting the days to start your new job?

Lindakay, prayers are being said for the well-being of Texas..the news we hear is so grim

yesterday i worked on the baby quilt, had company off/on, today a had a cousin passing by so had a visit, wasn’t here more than 1/2 hour, then Sharon and i headed to Barrie, 1st stop was Michael’s, lordy I hadn’t been there in quite some time, all their fall aisles were filled..I so love fall, love it best, even more than Christmas....went to princess auto and looked around, then Hummingbird fabric store, bought fabric and blades for my cutter, quick stop to Canadian Tire with a last stop at Lens Mill so I’m tired..want to try the machine embroider stuffed doggy, I bought eyelash soft fabric, don’t know if that kind of fabric will work, kind of intimidated, not sure why as it’s only fabric so best I try...

Greg was here last night for a quick visit which was nice..the left for camping so wanted to make sure I had all I needed..hip giving me the what for, maybe hot bath will help

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

When do you get your test results Betty? Sounds like you have been busy.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Last few days before I start the job, trying to get everything done I wanted to. Waiting for a fellow to come to trim one of the trees. It's got some dead wood, and my phone lines go through it, so need to get it trimmed before a dead branch takes out the lines. Had a stress test at the hospital on Thursday, still waiting for results on that.

Still need to find clothes to wear to work. When I interviewed everyone was wearing jeans and t shirts, but the orientation email said it's business casual dress code, jeans on Fridays only. I have enough tops, I think, but, don't have that many pairs of slacks. May need to do some shopping this weekend.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Deb, dress casual isn’t too bad, maybe just buy a pair of slacks then see during the week what people ware. Is there a training period? Furries sure are going to miss you.how is your daughter?

Gorgeous day out there, weeding and grass cutting done so went and did groceries, stopped ar Home Depot and bought wood for a shed piece, lucky at Lens mill I could buy precut wooden letters to spell g a r d e n..they aren’t quite the size I want but will do.need to paint them them white as sign will be candy apple red.

Just had cucumber sandwich, listening to neighbours cutting grass I could just put my head down and nap so best I move

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Good morning everyone.
Betty - did you get your test results?

Cucumber sandwich sounds good. I think I'll pick one out of the garden. They're mover dill pickle size, but still......... pretty large ones at that.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will you jar dills Susan? Was thinking of buying cups to make 7 day pickles, my favourites.
No Susan, have a phone appointment August 10th for update on all my test, also on the list for home visit so which ever comes first I’ll take.

Laying out on a lounge chair near the pond, so calming, weather just about perfect, trying to decide if I want to go downstairs and work on owl quilt, got inside panel done except for the dimentional leaves , could get further or I could just stay laying doing nothing

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning. Not much going on here. We are waiting to see if that storm hitting the coast will make it over this way. We need the rain so badly.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, a breezy sunshine day here although rain this afternoon and tomorrow..sure wish I could send rain to you Lindakay.

Must be worrisome for you waiting to see if the storm heads toward you. Guess you are quilt8ng to pass the time.

I feel in God’s garden this morning, sounds of water spray, birds chirping, butterflies flitting from one flower to the other.i was up early enough to get my hose out,wet all around the fire pit and spray trees then lit all that Shriners and limbs from past storms..there was a fire ban on, checked district bans and nothing about fires so did I have quite the bonfire going.

Just enjoying coffee then HAVE to finish the baby quilt seeing as John and Darlene are coming to lift the back steps up a little..they think that is why I keep falling going down them because they are on a slant soooo the bought 2 slabs of cement, will bring a jack and try to straighten them up...so I want to give him the quilt...

Also want to stain the wood I bought yesterday..this photo I got from Pinterest is where I got the idea for side of my shed..mine looks the same ..this weeks project is to do front..have all the fixings..exciting to feel I’ve energy again
,

Victoria Harbour, ON

Everyone must be busy, hope it’s because your day is beautiful and not because of illness.

Sharon came over this morning to show me how she made a flanged border and I in turned taught her how to make pie crust..she went home with an apple pie, I kept the cherry pie and out 2 shells in the freezer.

Our party was just as wonderful as I thought it would be. I know some that would have come didn't out of caution and that's fine. So enjoyed all the family that did.
Today was Amelia and Lorelei's Baptism. They had a private ceremony for just us after the regular service. We went for breakfast afterward and then to son's for a while. I promptly had a nap.
I'm thinking when I get home I'm calling my Oncologist. He made me promise I would if I felt my iron was way low again and I do. I just feel worn out all the time.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, you forgot the photo? Yes, I bought a new laptop a few weeks ago, I use it for my embroidery machine. So I made a padded tote bag for it. I will get a photo.

Glad you had a good party Karen.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi!
No Betty, I won't jar dills - I have 5 cucumber plants which have given me 2 dill pickle sized cucumbers. I'm cutting them up for dinner & cucumber sandwiches.
This morning I was at the online church for our previous church and we were talking about masks & people in Calgarry being required by law to wear them in public places as of Aug 1, or be fined $200. I know that Doug never wears a mask. I volunteered to make some & I think the minister figured I had some ready to go........ nope, so here I am making masks - I've cut some of the material, all of the linings, and everythings washed and ready to go.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

What style mask are you making Susan?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Great Susan on both pickling and staring to make masks, I did about 4-6 types before I came up with this one..with the light elastic I’m told people can breath easily through nose mouth and with addition of the nose outcrop they get very little fogging and if they wear them correctly no fog lol. I’ve got about 25 in a basket done for anyone who drop and and say their masks aren’t a good fit.

Lindsay, what kind of embroidery machine did you get and what projects are you making...enjoying it?

I have about I hour left for the baby quilt to be done, the using of the flange border sure makes life easy on projects such as this, no hand sewing binding...might download my pattern for the dog, 1st time trying it, light rain today so until mom comes I can try the dog, know I have stuff8ng for it.

Nice LK. I love the fabric.

Had to go into Kingston this morning for an eye appointment. It was supposed to be at 9 am but they were slammed - you know the Mon morning after the weekend. I was able to get my shopping done before they could see me. I have my new glasses but I don't think grinding a prism into the 1 lens helped out.I am supposed to try it out for a couple of days then call them. I just dread the thought of having my left eye done again.

Had quite the time making my way around in Kingston. Got lost twice and ended up west of Kingston a 1 point. I finally saw a sign for the 401 so I knew once I got there I'd be fine. Then I have a huge bag of new dog toys and wanted to drop them off at the Humane Society.. It is in an industrial area so after driving in circles I gave up. Betty you will get a kick out of this.... I was on the 401 (Major E - W highway) 3 times today. I haven't driven on it in over 8 years.

Deb how was your first day ?

Oh Pat it is so close. Glad you got some sleep in over the weekend.

Susan yum on the cucumbers. My sweet dad used to have a cup of tea with slices of cucumbers and sharp cheese at night during the summer.

Karen you are so blessed to have such a lovely family. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Say safe, well and cool.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Evening, took mom, Aunt Muriel to Sharon’s for supper..decided to leave a little early because there is a storm ready to hit..beside nearly my bedtime.

Pat, you soon will be count8mg hours...an exciting time for you..glad you found some helpers.

Those bags are gorgeous Lindakay..do you have orders or are they for the family?

Dianne you are a brave lady driving through Kingston in areas you haven’t been in awhile. Hoping another surgery isn’t needed.always mean to ask you, what have they done with the Penn, tours? The TH must be anxious for fall, been extremely hot this summer.

Deb, how are you making out?

Karen, celebration photo’s are great..know you have many more events planned, when will you be heading home? Are you feeling better?

Finished the baby quilt, had hoped to do a dog to go with it but I was roadrunning instead, Darlene and John are coming in the morning, maybe if I get up early I can get it done.

We will be heading home next Sunday. Only because Brody stayed too and he needs to be back for school. They start so early here. There has been talk of getting to an after Labor Day start. Seems this would be a good time to make the transition. Give it a bit more time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank god karen I have no young ones, I’d be terrified for them returning to school..Caleb will be going back to university I believe in a month only because his classes are interactive..Braedon finishes university in 3 weeks..because of Covid I’m not sure he will be leaving to teach In Germany as planned..darn Covid..

Lindakay is Covid in Texas getting less cases?

This message was edited Jul 28, 2020 2:03 AM

Good morning.

Dianne i hope you don't have to have your eye done again. Sounds like Kingston is a huge town. Glad you found your way.
Betty, the bags are for myself. I made the first because I needed one, 2nd was just because I was bored.
Covid cases are showing no sign of slowing down. We get at least 50 news a day lately.
This is numbers for our little county.

Betty - no pickling of cucumbers, just eating them raw. Don't have enough to pickle. This was only my 2nd one from the garden. Large picking type.
Got a smart deal on elastic for masks. Our Bargin Shop has pkgs of 30 hair elastics for $2.50, so Bob got 2 pkgs. 60 elastics = 30 masks! No cutting, except making them straight instead of a circle.
I'm not sure what "type" of mask, but here's a picture of some. They're kids, women's & men's .
The very colourful one was a "by request" from the Tilly's Thrift shop employee.
The others are for our previous church in Calgary. I had 10, but someone bought 2, so I have 2 more to make tonight. I've got it down to a science, with freezer paper, and the foil from a baking tin. Only cut my finger once on the sharp tin....... hahaha

Beautiful masks Susan. It is called an olson mask.
Get some pipe cleaners, also called chenille stems. Cut them about 4 to 5 inches. Easier to work with. Just zig zag over them to keep them in place.
