Victoria Harbour, ON

There with the day..

Hi sure worked hard today from early morning till just a few minutes ago, came in and had a hot bath and going to head out shortly to spray all my garden tools, the larger ones like rake, hoe, shovel with orange spray paint then I’ll cuddling to bed as tomorrow Is another day.

Mom comes tomorrow for a few days so good that I got all done so we can visit.

What did you all get into..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Did some paint prep, made a trip out to Home Depo and I'm going to start some painting! But first --- pictures! (any changing clothes, I only have ONE set of clothes that paint in, I am, shall we say, messy???)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the new room Betty.

Not doing much today. Too hot to do anything outside. YouTube has a bunch of videos where people that call themselves explorers, go around the world and find abandoned homes, some are multi million dollar mansions. People just suddenly leave them. Some are still fully furnished. Sad to see all the homes left for decay. We have been watching them. Pretty interesting.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I’m terrible at getting paint all over as well Pat..I gave an outfit I wear when gardening and painting..

Hope you take a before and after photo as I’m anxious to see it painted and new art piece set in its place.i was going to say late in the day to start painting but there is the time change to be considered. Saw on market place someone was trying to give away a double head and footboard and thought of you..I’ve got no room for anything else so had to pass. Still wondering what I will make with all that 1” vine I took from trees??

I went out, picked up a wheel barrel of sod pieces, thank goodness I have a gully in the back I can dispose of it. I’ve about 5’ left to do on back side of house but called it a day but not before the garden tool handles were sprayed orange, can’t see how I will misplace them in the gardens now lol

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I finished cutting out and got almost half of the baby quilt sewn together before I got to cold and had to quit.
We are certainly not having a summer as yet. Too chilly.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, sunshine day with a high of 72..this week looks promising, higher temps.

Karen what is your temperature? What pattern are you using for the baby quilt.
John, Darlene’s significant other’s daughter is expecting, John made his 1st grandchild’s quilt about 4 years ago..not so sure he will want to make another...I had a beautiful kids pattern book, maybe I could look to a pattern..don’t think I’ve children’s fabric but could make a trip to Barrie fabric store I guess. Any ideas?

Been up since 5am, all is done in the house, floors and all, even vacuumed front and back deck, Mel dropped in before 6 and picked up 6 masks she asked me for, had breakfast and now I’m ready to spend the day outside..made a list and have more than I though left to do before it’s time to start yard maintenance again..grass is growing so quickly.

What do you all have to fill your day today..

I’m anxious to see Pat’s project.

Out to get my lawn tools...

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Temps are not too bad outside but inside is too cold for me. All the rest complain the house is too warm and I'm bundling up.

The pattern I'm using is called Tumbler. I have a die for cutting it. This is the style but of course my colors are different. Quick and easy to make.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Cute Karen! I have not tried the dies, I am sure they make for accurate cutting, but aren't they very wasteful for the amount of fabric? Or am I mislead?

I got the first coat of paint on everything that is going to be white, the head board flower box #2 & inside #3, the wood box for parcels #4, and the big lattice head board storage bench #1. The photos are misleading the lattice bench is queen size & the flower box head board is twin. The 3rd shot shows that the bottom is supported but no enclosed. That is support flower pots and let them drain. The supports will rot first and are easily replaced.
Everything needs a 2nd coat and most of those projects will also get some kind of statement painted on them. At this point I am considering "Faith is like a tiny seed, when planted it will grow" a line from a Primary children's song for plant box.
The package box for son & wife, I have not decided but considering "A home without a cat is just a house" "the Andersons" with a outline of 2 cats. My lattice bench, I just can't decide yet. I want something like, "Sit still and listen, if you want the answers to your prayers"

I also got some of the exterior of the house painted. Wouldn't know, it rained last night? I know of my paint will be fine, some of the other, probably not. *sigh*.

To show you the color of new paint, it is NOT done anywhere yet but wanted to get the picture hung up safe until I get back to painting.
#1 just picture of the start of painting so you can see the difference in color. #2 & 3 is AFTER they got the door in a year ago, #4, that same door now with patio completed but not painted. #5, just closer pic of #1.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh my. You have been busy Pat. I love the green.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Wow Pat, great job on the benches and such. Love the color of the house. I would paint the door and the door trim a dark hunter green. But I have weird taste.

Betty, so pleased to see you are finally getting some warm weather. We are back in the 100s and high winds tomorrow, so tomorrow will not be a good day for my plants. Wind and high temperatures is like a blast furnace.

I started off my day on a bummer. Over slept and did not wake up until 9:23. So by the time I got my shower, curled my hair, fed and walked the dogs, half my day was gone. I am going to work on some pot irrigation in the back landscape but waiting for afternoon shade.

I am taking a trip to Spokane to see my son Todd and his family, late in August. Last time I was there Luke was 2 and he is now 10. After that visit, I fly to Portland for my Cousin Betty's 90th birthday. She is my mother's brother's daughter. Four sisters. Both uncles were berry farmers. That is where I get my gardening gene.

Betty, I feel for you. I have that much work in April and I am just about dead by the time I get everything done.

Security just dropped by. I will be back.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, hunter green is on the radar, have not decided yet. I am not sure if I want to stick with JUST white and green or will add the hunter green. My first barn is white body & hunter green trim, hunter green metal roof. When I needed the 2nd barn, they had a natural wood stain with hunter green metal roof. I took it and figured I'd paint later so they matched.

Sharon you have some traveling to do! Enjoy your visits.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pat, I don't think there is any more waste than with hand cutting. I cut a strip selvage to selvage 5 inches wide. The die is 4 1/2. I can layer so I cut 4 at a time. Usually I can cut 6 but I'm using flannel so cut fewer. I run through once then invert the fabric and cut again. Actually I'm cutting just the way they look in the finished quilt so only about 1/4" waste top and bottom and a bit less on the sides. The biggie for me is the cuts are exact every time and so go together so much better.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

It's got to be easier on your hands!
I just bought a new rotary cutter and WOW, I like this one!!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Pat, I don't think I would be able to quilt with out the die cutter. The one I have is electric and it saves me so much pain.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, sunshine day here, high of 77f..great for work8mg outside.

Oh Pat I love the colour you chose , I see it as a calming colour, you will,so love sitt8ng in that area IF you ever sit lol and the art piece looks spectacular on it..

From trash to treasure those pieces/benches turned out spectacular ,you do lovely
work and very quickly..now where will they all go?

You’ve accomplished so much..

Karen I also have that die, haven’t used it, will make a lovey baby quilt for sure...actually the only one I really use are the ragging dies..for awhile I thought
It was a terrific investment but I find they aren’t making many new dies so I’ve kind of lost interest it.

How exciting Sharon that you will be taking a trip in August..will be so nice for you to see Luke then off to Betty’s 90th..could your sister travel along with you?

Mom is here, gVe her a perm and hair cut yesterday, she seems happy with it. Wanneta is coming over to do Bella’s (mom’s dog) nails..if Ziggy is in i might see if she can do his nails.

Mom will then go to Sharons for a visit, the to her sister’s...took out spaghetti sauce for supper and will make a cocoanut cream pie for desert then head outside and get more work done..

you are right Sharon the work in gardens never end but soon it’s just cutting grass and doing trimming...what else would we, do with ourselves?

going to check if I’ve vinegar as the slate patio near pond and that of the back patio has weeds growing through, I understand spraying vinegar is a good way to kill them.
Feel bad for Debbie, she lost Lexi..I believe she said it was 4 furry friends in a very short time...she must be devastated.

Waving to all...hope you are having a great day.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, there are several recipes for weed killer with vinegar but most of them use a higher acidity than what you buy for the kitchen.

Goodness, Debbie has had a LOT of losses all at once. What a heart break.

The "Planter box" goes to my husband's sister in law, in Yakima. Almost 2 hours away. The Lattice work storage bench is for me to set in from the heat pump to help distract/hide it from view. The parcel box with lid goes to my son & wife, they get deliveries all the time and like having a spot designated for the stuff so it doesn't sit out in the open for people to see.

I still have a dresser to finish repairing and then painting. I never seem to get to it. In part I am procrastinating but I am uncertain HOW to repair the drawer. I need to just jump in and try. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Or I could simply remove that drawer and add a solid shelf. THAT would be easiest.... I took the top off the dresser with a planer as Ben had ruined it with moisture. I have a piece selected to cut for the new top. I've been toying with trying to do an acrylic pour technique on it.

A friend was teasing me about my "greenhouse". No, I don't have a shelter to grow plants. I have enough trouble with my outdoor ones without more!

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty I really don't have so many dies. I like the strip dies the best for borders and bindings. One I would like to get is Storm at Sea. It's a design I've been wanting to make and was happy to see a die finally come out for it. No rush to get t if I ever do. I have plenty to keep me busy for a good long while.
I got the baby quilt top done today. That really is a quick and easy pattern. I had cut more than I needed so maybe another in the works one of these days. As soon as I finish the baby quilt, I need to make some more QOVs. I have panels and blocks all made, for a few of them, just need to do the assembly.

Can’t talk long, entertaining mom
But look what I got from her and Aunt Muriel

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those are beautiful.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Awwww really cute. You can leave them out all winter.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Those are some cuties!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Other than the 2 large ones they are tree ornaments from a collection, all having their own name..

Mom is here, took her to midland, just now cooking spaghetti for her..not feeling wee, as soon as she is fed I’m off to bed

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty - your mom isn't staying overnight, is she?
Well, I'm losing my mind........ last night I turned the sprinkler on the garden and today (14 HOURS later) Bob found it on and shut it off. Of course it's a rainy day today lol Guess I won't be needing to water for a LONG time!
Today I went to my friend Pat's, to help her figure out why her email program (yes, Outlook Express program.........) wasn't working anymore. Well, the fact that it's a Program and not webmail would be the reason. Microsoft is no supporting it anymore, so she has no email in her inbox. Gone-poof-bye bye. I tried to create a new one for her, and she put in a password, but from then on she must have mis-typed it because then it won't let her in anymore, so she has no email of any kind. I would like her to get a new computer (this one's Win XP!!) because there's no way the new versions of Windows will fit on her old computer. I think I'm going to suggest to her that I bring her computer to my place & set up webmail, cuz she watches me while I'm trying to set her up & she gets so confused by it all. She's not old - only just 73 - but she doesn't do online banking either. She's hard-wired to do everything manually, except for email.
Well, she may be STUCK learning these things, because banks are being very careful, and a lot of companies aren't wanting you to come in & make the payments, they want e-transfers now.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, will be a high of 88f with a feel of 90f
Susan, mom has been here since Monday..she may stay until tomorrow..that sounds
Like something I’d do re water..so glad you are able to help her.

I was up at 6:30am, did 4 masks, 2 for aunt Muriel and 2 for mom..took in aunt Muriel’s nightie she bought and too big under the arms, she will be happy.

Think I’m going to tackle cleaning my car inside and out today

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I talked to them at work today, told them working from home is NOT working for me. They are going to have me work from the office. My office mate and I can't be in the same room, so one of us will have to be in a conference room when it's her day to print. She is loving working from home.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Going to be a hot one so won’t over exert.will have a feel like 95 so for us it’s HOT..
Decided to take a run into Midland and use the car wash..wash and vacuum, much easier that carrying big canister outside.

Need a few groceries as well, if I go now I can be back by noon before the hottest part of the day.

If your coworker Pat has to work in office when she loves working at home, why does she have to go in?

Think I’ll make a coffee to go and head out..gab in a bit

Verona, ON

Hot, hot weather here too Betty. Too hot for me.The TH have staked out a floor vent to lay on. I'll not be shutting the AC off for a few days.

Pat is the other worker who that annoys you when you are in the office ?

Diesel has had a set back. He still won't eat unless he is hand fed and even then refuses his kibble. Not sure if he is just yanking my chain. He loves chicken that I cook for him. I hide his daily 5.5 pills inside pieces of chicken.

Meeting friends for Chinese food tonight. We usually go once a year to the Mandarin when they are home from Egypt. Take out this time. Perfect setting - looking out over the lake if the bugs aren't bad. Deer flies are here..... darn.

Think I am going to find things to do inside today.

Stay safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds yummy Dianne, you will enjoy catching up with them, there must be stories galore...hmm do they have Covid in Egypt? Know they say hot weather slows it down...lots of skitters here but touch wood no black flies yet.

hot/muggy,.not a wonder the furry’s Want in...poor Diesel, when next does he go to the vets? Ziggy wanted out, thInk he hides under large hostas lol

Today, hottest day of year so far I decide to clean my car, washed it at car wash but their vacuums were useless so guess I will drag out my shop vac. Looked all over for the cleaner for inside and can’t find it, perhaps in back shed..not going to Midland if I can’t find it, looked at grocery store lineups and said to self ‘don’t need groceries that bad’.

Rogers down again, will switch to Bell provider as soon as it is deemed safe for them to enter the house to change system..this is ridiculous.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Diane, we have the same problem with our Molly. I bought some canned food, called Wild Frontier. We add about a third of a can to her kibble and toss in her pills. Everything is gobbled right down. It smells so good when the can is opened, like a good stew. She spends most of her time on the porch so we feed her there to keep the others from bugging her. We cut down her kibble too as she is so inactive now. Trying to keep her weight down.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

There is work that has to be done from the office. they don't want us doing any printing from home (on our own printers) and their mail and other stuff to take care of that can only be done from the office..

Because of COVID-19, NO ONE is allowed to share an office space. We can't be in at the same time, so we will have to work it out.

Sorry to hear Diesel had a set back, could some of it be the heat?

Kevin had car trouble, I left work early so he could take my car to Portland. My youngest is going to have to relinquish my pick up.

I am losing patience. There is a reason I have a 2nd vehicle (my pickup) and it wasn't so youngest could have it all the time. He has NOT gotten one of his other vehicles up and running reliably. Time for Mommy Dearest to get tough.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, a glorious day out there, they are calling for thunderstorms.. I’m invited to darlene’s bbq tonight, just 6 and well layer out so hope if it does rain will be after that,

Pat, hard to use tough love but sometimes it’s the kindest thing to do. Difficult though if you let one use it and the other not, good idea about taking turns in the office, can see their point, safety first. Talked to Jeff last night, he doesn’t think they will be back in the office until next year..he says he monitors work load of all his employees, some he says you have to push a little harder but overall they are making an effort.

He was telling me Caleb is feeling down, he was so looking forward to being lead in the 2 plays and having scout for major theatrical group coming to see the play and all cancelled..university will by computer when fall starts... so disappointing!

I was out at a break I’d dawn watering the newly planted gardens, still wasn’t up early enough to beat the couple who are in the apartment next to me, she had already been for a walk and they were sipping coffee. She said she had been using chairs I set out for them, I’ve not seen it, must be during the night.lol

Been on couch since 8am, are aching..time to move around a bit or I’ll not go anywhere.

My goats beard is 9’ tall

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

that goats beard is seriously wonderful! I need to look into whether it is a good candidate for an area at my house.

Poor Caleb, so many disappointments. Soooo much change in the world. How this ultimately all shakes out no one knows at this point. Our COVID-19 numbers have continued to be BAD.

I have good intentions today, lets see what I actually accomplish. the soaker hose is broken again & obviously beyond his life so will need to be replaced. Disappointing as that was only 2nd year.

What I accomplish today will heavily depend on if I can hire some muscle for help! I've really been thinking about what I like and don't like. I miss my big distressed hot pink dresser that had been in my living room. I took it out when I bought 2 recliners & made more room for Ben's wheelchair. There is no reason to prevent me from bringing it back into the house (from barn). I'll check but I think my helpers are out of town with family.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Happy Father's day to you all. I knew this would not be one of my favorite days, the first Father's day since Ben's death. Please tell me it get's easier.

I cleared the stuff off the pink dresser. Checked inside for what I currently had in it. I cleared out of office/work stuff to be returned to my work office in town. Moved my home computer back into the home office/ cat room. I took down1 small folding table and 1 more to finish & fold. . I still need to clear some stuff off that 2nd table. I like it... it's more me already. It's exciting.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you have been busy.

Happy birthday Liz. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Afternoon all..it’s a scorcher,

Happy Birthday Liz..hoping it’s special in every way....big arm wraps as Judy would say..

Sharon and I did graveyards this morning to put rose plant on each of the family graved and then drove an hour away to washago and did jim’s ashes into the river where they had a cottage..now home and thinking of a nap..

Greg and Kyle are in Wasaga beach, trailered their monster bikes, ones greg made and are enjoying themselves.

Pat, sorry but the loss is always there, we just learn in our own way how to deal with the loss..

Verona, ON

Scorcher of a day here too. The deer flies and the heat drove us inside.

Oh Wasaga Beach !!! Lots of good memories from the times I was there in my teens. My sister used to rent a cottage there for June and July.

Pat I agree with Betty the loss is always there. I still even after 8 years find myself buying something that Warren liked to eat.and I don't.

Happy Birthday Liz !!

I too feel badly for Caleb. All of these kids with graduation and specific summer plans being cancelled must feel like they have been punched in the gut. A Boston station that I watch news on announces 3 or 4 names of people graduating after every newscast. I'm not sure if you have to submit names like people do for birthday wishes or if they are just going through class lists. It's a nice touch.

Goat's Beard... I like it but I don't. It is so lovely in full bloom but then it looks like a haggard person.

Diesel had a good day today. He is getting up and down much easier but it is still painful for him. He tags along when Chaos and I walk. Diesel sits down and waits until he thinks he can carry on. He does not try and keep up and for that I am grateful. He is still not eating kibble. I've tried 3 different brands and he refuses them all.

Stay safe and cool.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Dianne I’m hoping you aren’t getting these storms..first has come through, warning that a few more coming through later..worry about flooding!

This heat and humidity must play havoc with Diesel..glad the meds are helping somewhat.

Be a lovely day at the beach today for sure..Wasaga is the best of the best, longest freshwater beach..was thinking I might buy a folding chair and spend times not at our main beach but end of my street, quiet place..get a perm tomorrow, maybe I’ll head to town to get one but first will check back shed..we were painting chairs with hydrangea designs, must be one left over lol

Got asked to go to greg’s for supper, worry about leaving the pumps working though...I’ll see
