Best/Worse/What did I learn Today? A place to chat with friends..always a chair by the Gardens for newcomers to join in..come sit a spell!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well,it sure will be beautiful set outside, nothing gives one a more sense of peace as to sit in gardens they’ve created.id be sitting out but the winds would carry me away..

The microwave recipe I have is so easy, it was in a booklet when microwaves first came out..didn’t have raisins so I added cranberries..already had supper so might just have to warm some up and add a few scoops of ice cream..my treat for doing nothing today.lol

Could never learn how to operate those phones, couldn’t even operate a flip phone so no phone for me..kids always say I should have one incase of emergency, thInk rather than phone I’d invest in the Alert system

I have about 6 design toggles for embroidery machine, might go get them and go through them, I’m so certain I bought a set of Floridian Santa’s that I could make a throw for Darlene and never did...also thought I had bought redwork design (not in red) so maybe I’m confusing what I have..be something to look at while sitting tonight.must be the cold today reminding me Christmas is on its way, I don’t ‘dont Go there’ lol

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

BITE YOUR TONGUE BETTY!!! Christmas!!! YIKES, stop it already!

I found a link to it finally! This is even prettier in person, and at 30 x 40, it makes a statement! I am not fond of small art. https://www.brylanehome.com/products/tropical-jewel-outdoor-wall-art/301420331.html?affiliate_location_id=01&affiliate_id=049&utm_campaign=Shopping%20-%20Smart%20Shopping%20-%20Catch%20All&utm_medium=ps_pla&utm_term=--&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpoTp7Pje6QIVhOlbCh1CjA89EAEYASACEgJAdvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&utm_content=Ad%20group&utm_source=google&isRedirect=true

Pat, that is beautiful.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Stunning Pat..love the colours..you’ve great taste

I decided at 6 to get comfy in bed, no sooner did did I see a truck and a camper back up in my yard, was Kyle..he sold his trailer, cleaner it up as he will deliver it Tuesday then going shopping for another..he no sooner got here that Noah dropped in, just bought a new vehicle and was up from the city to test drive it..nice chat with he and Kyle.

He no sooner pulled out that Greg arrived on the spider, he stayed 1/2 hour so that sure made my evening. Just climbed back into bed..

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

WOW! That was a delightfully unexpected bunch of company, how nice!

Thanks Linda & Betty.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Made my day...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That was nice of everyone to drop in.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sun is out, just going to have lunch then head outside for several hours..
Went into midland this morning, got 6 bags of mulch and some plants

Wanted to go into Home Depot doe odd pieces of wood to repair a birdhouse and maybe make another, always have some wood but there always seems to be other wood needed but there had to be 30 in line up so nope

Went to Dollar Tree, they had children’s chef hats, enough to make one mask per chef hat..Mel had dropped off Coca-Cola fabric last week and said Greg wanted a few masks..elastic a tad wider than I wanted but better than nothing right?

Amazing what we are willing to do for supplies in short demand.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, I heard of someone cutting open Bungie cords to retrieve all the excellent rubber bands within them.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I found out today that DG no longer has the address exchange. They said they had to delete it due to privacy issues.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got recycle to roadside in rain..watch the grass grow now...

I did check a few bungy cords but no go, not useable,This will do, there are about 20 left , didn’t say what I’d be using them for for between that dollar tree store and the one a little further perhaps I’ll have all I need..gave up on my order.

I for plot to tell you that Sharon’s Inuk had a stroke Friday, she rushed him to her vet in the city..with meds and love he is doing well.

Just after I posted yesterday I decided to nap, no sooner got comfy that I got a call from Brian, Sharon’s son..he was in the city and got a text from his mom, very confused and could speak properly she told him, he asked if I would go..

she didn’t look good when I got there, her shakes beyond shakes and could put words together, the landscapers were at her house doing drive paving stones, they were trying to have a discussion re pattern and she couldn’t get words out.

she insisted no ambulance, wanted to wait until her kids got back home..persuaded her that I’d drIve her to midland hospital because if she didn’t go and was a stroke did she want to be tied to a chair and have someone feed her rest of her life..

Outcome is they thInk a stroke that had passed on? Have her meds, kept her for 4 hours and sent her home giving her a referral to stroke clinic. Seeing her the condition she was in I cannot believe they let her out..hope she put through a good night. Guess they know better than i

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

When having a stroke you need to get to the hospital with in 2 hours of when it started. There is a med they can give you that will lesson the severity of it. Speaking from experience. So I hope she is okay and glad you took her to the hospital.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just the other day Vicki when I was touching up DG friendship mileage post I came across your mileage marker and wondered how you are doing..Still mega gardening?

That is too bad LIndakay, guess if mailing we just have to personally ask the individual for their address..

Just gave myself a talking to, sitting on the couch looking at clock already, makes for a long day.lol

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear about Inuk and Sharon. Keeping them in our prayers.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Still gardening. Just slower.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Aren't we all Vicki? I love the pictures of the old shoes. Reminds me of Hubby's grandma. She always had a pair like that sitting by the door to slip on when she went out to garden.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I remember grandma having garden shoes much the same as well..
Made greg’s 5 masks and back to laying on couch, doubtful I’ll get energetic today lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Vwell friends, what did you get up to today??

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I went to the quilt shop, to use the longarm, and it kept breaking thread. Got frustrated and came back home. I changed thread, needle and nothing worked. She has a guy coming in tomorrow to check it out.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Betty - how are Sharon & Inuk? Hoping all is well with both of them. Strokes are indeed scary.

We're out in the yard, putting finishing touches on, and checking on the growth of things. I finally have my ferns coming up. Give them a couple of years & they'refill out. I see 4, and think there are blank spots where 2 more should (?) be coming up.
Veggie garden is doing well, but still looking for a couple of things to sprout up.
Weather is hot & sunny - beautiful for sitting outside. We got a firepit today. It was Senior's sales June 2-4th, and 20-30% off. Got a garden screen that's ivy & morning glories (what a mix?!?!) times 2, to hide the neighbour's meter from our view. Had to be x2 because one was, when stretched out enough, too transparent & we could still see the meter.
Yup, our garden/yard is growing up!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure that is a great feeling Susan. filling with plants and artist touches.

Victoria Harbour, ON

likely something very minor LIndakay but can be so frustrating..I’ve seen it being needle not quite up far enough, bobbin area having batting lint or thread I’m it, threads not compatible or it’s just one of those days..

Is the quilting shop nearby?
Was just telling Sharon that I must look at what fabrics if any I have so I can quilt another wedding quilt.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Quilting shop is aboutb7 miles. Not too far.

Susan, your place sounds like it is doing good.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Very frustrating, had to watch my grandson graduate in a video. It was a sad drive through ceremony at the school parking lot. Next year will be youngest grand and oldest great.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

yes, one of my good friends child graduates this Saturday. It is sad.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

There was a picture in our rural paper, showing a graduation in a line-up of cars. The graduates looked really happy - of course it was a sunny day, and they were in convertibles 😁
To all of you, my yard will never look as cozy, lush & beautiful as yours, but we've only been here since Aug 2016, so I give myself that grace. It'll be about 3-5 years before it will have the privacy from our cottoneaster shrub, but we're not going to pay the price of full-or half-grown trees. These were a gift from a friend who was thinning hers out, and I will always treasure them. We also have irises, and other perennials given to us by those thinning out their patches. Our yard has become a gift to us 💖

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It all takes time Susan. Most of us are lucky, we have gardening and quilting friends. Both groups are so giving.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yep, although I have a fair amount of brought stuff, LOTS of mine were gifts. That makes them even more special to me. Some I got free on Craigslist. I got 3 Knock Out roses from a retired lady who did not want to do the maintenance of roses! They were only about 20 inches tall when I dug them up. The surviving one is in front of the picket fence. One simply didn't make it, the 2nd one didn't because my friend backed over it in a rental car! (Before the fence was up).

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still a dreary day here, I’m a lover of your roses..when I had the end pond I had ground roses that gave me mega roses all summer..I transplanted them and think only one survived..I do see though through the rocks near where the other pond was that there is a few sucker roses but I don’t get flowers....I’ve tried to transplant them but doesn’t work..I will try to be on the lookout for ground roses but not easy find8ng anything right now.

Yes, my Braedon graduating with honours from B.C. University, soon to come back home..quite an achievement for him, would have been nice to celebrate as a family..😪

Washed down the muskoka chair set as best I can, put furnace on in hopes the pieces dry enough that I can sand tonight and will be ready to paint.

Went through my fabrics and found a black mottled fabric I hoed a piece to, almost on the frame and I’ll have another wedding quilt to quilt on from time to time

See the sun coming out and neighbor cutting grass.... maybe I’ll go get mine done before it clouds up again..

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I walked the dogs at 10:30 and it was already miserable. 103 today and humid. We do not normally have humid. I didn't make my bed today and it just didn't get done.

I am cooking scallops tonight for my dinner and some wilted spinach. I have never cooked scallops so got cooking instruction from granddaughter and another friend that are good cooks.

My garden helper comes tomorrow. Hope it is going to be cloudy. Vern's son is coming over tomorrow for the first time since quarantine except to pick up his groceries. I would get his groceries and leave them by the door to the garage. My daughter did the shopping. I just didn't want him to get sick because I would have not been able to take care of him. I told him yesterday he would need to start buying his own groceries. My checkbook was empty.

I toured my garden last night with a flashlight around 10. Found enough large fat snails to feed my fish a gourmet meal. I have one plant that is an ornamental egg plant with a beautiful bloom. Well the snails love it. One portion is totally stripped and last night I found 3 snails on the other side.

Susan, it takes forever to get a garden going. Most important thing is your soil. Good job on getting free plants.

Pat, that is one big, beautiful rose bush. Roses are hard to transplant.

I had a neighbor stop by yesterday, with two small daughter, to pick some figs. I also gave them a big bunch of lettuce. Planted a mixed seed pack and it has outdone itself. Lettuce will soon bolt. I have a lot of turnip greens but I have not checked the size of the turnips. One time when I was in California i purchased what I thought were round white radishes. Got back to the condo and cleaned a few and to my surprise, they were baby turnips. My tomatoes are getting ripe.

Photo is dogs and Peanut on our morning walk.

Test

Verona, ON

We have an absolutely stunning day here. Temperature around 79/80 with a lovely breeze off of the lake.

Keiran and I worked a couple of hours outside. He cut the lawn, used the weed whacker and just generally made the outside look better.

I couldn't post on DG yesterday. I took Diesel to our new vet yesterday. I didn't think he would be coming home with me but he did There are several acute things wrong with him..He had a raging case of Lymes .and the vet chose to treat that first. She thinks that the Lyme might be a factor with his hips and rear legs He has a high fever . He cannot put any weight on his rear left leg. There is a $5000.00 operation he could have on his leg but there is no assurance it will fix the problem. Right now I am just so thankful that Diesel is here with me. We have a long row to how but we will take it one step at a time. The new vet is amazing !!!

Pat, Deb are you still working from home ?

Betty how is Inouk ?

Sharon I still occasionally pick up something at the grocery store that Warren liked and I don't eat it.It's hard learning to shop and cook for 1 person. Yum on the figs.

Say safe and well.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Finally, DG has been down for most of the day.. 3rd time I try to post

Been a glorious day here, I’d say a perfect day, light breeze, smell of lilacs

Sharon, 103f, know you are acclimatized to the heat but that is a tad too hot for me...the furries are so darn cute, they must look forward to their walks. How did your dinner go last night? Always nice to try a new dish providing end result is a yummy meal.

How has Vern’s son been dealing with Vern’s death and Covid..smiling as you told him he would have to buy groceries, I think he is enjoying having you looking after him.

Is Las Vegas now up and running?

I sooo miss my trips stateside, usually I’m deep in organizing our 2 week Roadtrip, not even feasible to plan a Canadian get away right now..who knows, maybe by Christmas I can go to Florida for a few weeks.

I have been out since just after 6am, me, the chair set and mosquitos..I’ve worked hard getting them painted, taking a break, touching up flowers then done. Will look for something to cover them up with seeing they are calling for rain..I’ll let the paint cure a few days then will spray a sealer..should give them another few years of life.

Other than paint didn’t do too much, thought I’d replace batteries in some of the solar lights..amazed that many do not have batteries..the ones I could replace got done until I ran out of batteries.

There is a couple, perhaps a little younger than I that moved in to the side apartment next to me, it’s a ’L’ shaped, only houses a pizza shop facing Main Street, they seem friendly enough, she walks then spends a lot of time reading with her chair on cement walkway..thought I’d offer them where there is an arch near where they sit that they can put their chairs under the big maple tree and enjoy shade, doubtful they will accept but I can make the offer..

Time to go out and finish my project

Hope your day is as enjoyable

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Still working from home, made much more tolerable by Stanley.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Didn’t see your post Dianne until I checked if mine went through..

Grand day for sure

I am so sorry to hear about Diesel, there are no words..here is hoping that he will improve and with your care am sure he is on the mend. Nothing like having fresh mowed lawn and weeding done..I have to get the battery in mine, restring , not a whole lot of trimming but some.am sure Kieran enjoys his time with you.

Inuk is quiet, as is Sharon ..she is still waiting for her appt re her stroke (if indeed it was one)

Well, time to get back and finish my project.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Project done, took all day but it will do

Wanneta dropped in, I said when someone is driving 40mph they will never see it’s a fix

Dianne - how worried you must be, about Diesel. Poor lad. You & he are in my prayers.

The park bench is done. The before, and now...... ta da! The after, in its Forever Home Bob did a pretty nice job of the stonework underneath, and he put the wood behind so our neighbour's gravel & dirt don't wash into the stones during a rain. He said he didn't want stones & mud beneath the bench

Sorry to hear about Diesel. Praying the meds work quickly.
Beautiful chair Betty.

Admin said they have been doing updates. That's why we couldn't post.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Does everyone remember this? It was posted Jan 22, 2010, when he sold Dave's Garden.
